Effects of Sb,Sm, and Sn additions on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-6Al-1.2Y-0.9Nd alloy显示文摘The microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-6Al-1.2Y-0.9Nd magnesium alloy with Sb, Sm, or Sn addition were investigated through X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results show that small amounts of Sb, Sm, and especially Sn can refine the grains of the alloy. High melting point Sb3Y5, Al2Sm, and Nd5Sn3 intermetallic compounds can be formed respectively when Sb, Sm, and Sn are added to the alloy. Sb and Sm can improve the tensile strength of the alloy at ambient and elevated temperatures. The tensile strength of the alloy with Sm addition is the highest at 293 and 423 K. However, the tensile strength of the alloy with Sn addition is the highest at 448 K.LI Kejie LI Quanan JING Xiaotian CHEN Jun ZHANG Xingyuan 2009Rare Metals2009,28,5:39
Microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-Gd-Y-Sm-Al alloy and analysis of grain refinement and strengthening mechanism显示文摘The effects of Sm on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-11 Gd-2 Y-0.6 Al alloy were investigated by X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry and high resolution transmission electron microscopy.Based on the theory of edge—edge matching and electronegativity theory, the mechanism of grain refinement is discussed. The strengthening mechanism is expounded conveniently from fine grain strengthening, coherent strengthening, precipitation strengthening and grain boundary strengthening. The results show that the micro structure of Mg-11 Gd-2 Y-0.6 Al alloy is mainly composed of a-Mg matrix,Mg5 Gd and Mg24Y5 phases. The addition of Sm forms Mg41Sm5 phase in the alloy and refines the alloy. The addition of Sm significantly improves the mechanical properties of the alloy at room and high temperatures. When the addition of Sm is 3 wt%,the tensile strengths of the alloy at room temperature and high temperature(200℃)reach the maximum value 292 and 321 MPa,respectively. The fracture mode of the alloy at different temperatures is mainly brittle fracture and intercrystalline fracture.Xiaoya Chen Quanan Li Jun Chen Limin Zhu 2019Journal of Rare Earths2019,37,12:12
Effects of Sm addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of a Mg-10Y alloy显示文摘To further increase the mechanical properties, 0.5wt.% Sm was introduced to a Mg-10Y alloy in this study. The effects of Sm addition on the microstructures and mechanical properties of the Mg-10Y alloy, especially the aged Mg-10Y alloy, were investigated. The microstructure observation and tensile tests were performed by using an optical microscopy, a scanning electron microscopy and a universal material testing machine, respectively. The phase analysis was performed using X-ray diffractometer. The results show that the 0.5wt.% Sm addition can not only promote the formation of fine and dispersed Mg24Y5 phases, but also improve their morphology and distribution; it also increases the thermal stability of Mg24Y5 phases. Sm addition is seen to increase the ultimate tensile strength of Mg-10Y alloy at elevated temperatures(200, 250, 300 and 350 ℃), while decrease the elongation. But the elongation is still up to 7.5% even at 350 ℃. In the range of 250 ℃ to 300℃, the ultimate tensile strength of the alloy reaches its maximum(with a range average of 235 MPa) and is not sensitive to the temperature change, which is very useful to the application of heat-resistant magnesium alloys. Even at 350 ℃, the ultimate tensile strength of Mg-10Y-0.5Sm is still up to 155 MPa. Considering both of the ultimate tensile strength and elongation, the maximum application temperature of the Mg-10Y-0.5Sm alloy can be up to 300 ℃. The strengthening mechanisms of Mg-10Y-0.5Sm alloy are mainly attributed to dispersion strengthening of Mg24Y5 phase particles with a certain solubility of Sm and grain refinement strengthening of α-Mg matrix.Li Quanan Zhang Qing Wang Yaogui Zhou Wei 2014China Foundry2014,11,1:7
A case study of a Kuroshio main path cut-off event and impacts on the South China Sea in fall-winter 2013–2014显示文摘This study examines a Kuroshio main path(KMP) cut-off event east of Taiwan Island occurred in fall-winter2013–2014 and its impacts on the South China Sea(SCS) by analyzing satellite altimetry and mooring observations. Satellite altimeter sea level anomaly(SLA) images reveal a complete process that a huge cyclonic eddy(CE) from the Pacific collided with the Kuroshio and the western boundary from 15 October 2013 to 15 January 2014. Mooring observations evidenced that the Kuroshio upper ocean volume transport was cut off more than 82% from 17×106 m^3/s in September to 3×106 m^3/s in November 2013. The KMP cut-off event caused the Kuroshio branching and intruding into the SCS and strengthened the eddy kinetic energy in the northern SCS west of the Luzon Strait. Using the total momentum as a dynamic criterion to determine the role of eddy collision with the Kuroshio reasonably explains the KMP cut-off event.Quanan Zheng Chung-Ru Ho Lingling Xie Mingming Li 2019Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,4:6
Three-dimensional structure of a low salinity tongue in the southern Taiwan Strait observed in the summer of 2005显示文摘Cruise observations with CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) profiler were carried out in the southern Taiwan Strait in the summer of 2005. Using the cruise data, two-dimensional maps of salinity and temperature distributions at depths of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 m were generated. The maps show a low salinity tongue sandwiched by low temperature and high salinity waters on the shallow water side and high temperature and high salinity waters on the deep water side. The further analysis indicates that the low salinity water has a nature of river-diluted water. A possible source of the diluted water is the Zhujiang (Pearl) Estuary. Meanwhile, the summer monsoon is judged as a possible driving force for this northeastward jet-like current. The coastal upwelling and the South China Sea Warm Current confine the low salinity water to flow along the central line of the strait. Previous investigations and a numerical model are used to verify that the upstream of the low salinity current is the Zhujiang Estuary. Thus, the low salinity tongue is produced by four major elements: Zhujinag Estuary diluted water, monsoon wind driving, coastal upwelling and South China Sea Warm Current modifications.HONG Huasheng ZHENG Quanan HU Jianyu CHEN Zhaozhang LI Chunyan JIANG Yuwu WAN Zhenwen 2009Acta Oceanologica Sinica2009,28,4:6
Microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-6Al magnesium alloy with yttrium and neodymium显示文摘The effects of rare earth(RE) elements Y and Nd on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-6Al magnesium alloy were investigated. The results show that a proper level of RE elements can obviously ref ine the microstructure of Mg-6Al magnesium alloys, reduce the quantity of β-Mg17Al12 phase and form Al2Y and Al2Nd phases. The combined addition of Y and Nd dramatically enhances the tensile strength of the alloys in the temperature range of 20-175℃.When the content of RE elements is up to 1.8%,the values of tensile strength at room temperature and at 150℃ simultaneously reach their maximum of 253 MPa and 196 MPa,respectively. The main mechanisms of enhancement in the mechanical properties of Mg-6Al alloy with Y and Nd are the grain ref ining strengthening and the dispersion strengthening.Chen Jun Li Quanan Li Jianghong Li Xiaofeng Li Kejie Zhang Xingyuan 2009China Foundry2009,6,2:5
Wavelet analysis of coastal-trapped waves along the China coast generated by winter storms in 2008显示文摘This study applies the wavelet analysis to the tidal gauge records, alongshore winds, atmospheric temperature and pressure along the China coast in winter 2008. The analysis results show three events of sea level oscillations(SLOs) on the shelf induced by winter storms. The first event occurred from January 9 to 21. The SLO periods were double-peaked at 1.6–5.3 and 7.0–16.0 d with the power densities of 0.04–0.05 and 0.10–0.15 m2·d, respectively. The second event occurred from February 5 to 18. The SLO period was single-peaked at 2.3–3.5 d with power density of 0.03–0.04 m2·d. The third event occurred from February 20 to March 8. The SLO periods were doublepeaked at 1.5–4.3 and 6.1–8.2 d with the power densities of 0.08–0.11 and 0.02–0.08 m2·d, respectively. The SLOs propagated along the coast from Zhejiang in north to Guangdong in south. The phase speeds ranged about 9–29m/s from Kanmen to Pingtan, 5–11 m/s from Xiamen to Huizhou and 11–22 m/s from Huizhou to Shuidong. The dispersion relation of the SLOs shows their nature of coastal-trapped wave.LI Junyi ZHENG Quanan HU Jianyu FAN Zhenhua ZHU Jia CHEN Tao ZHU Benlu XU Ying 2015Acta Oceanologica Sinica2015,34,11:5
Classification and 3-D distribution of upper layer water masses in the northern South China Sea显示文摘Using the fuzzy cluster analysis and the temperature-salinity(T-S) similarity number analysis of cruise conductivity-temperature-depth(CTD) data in the upper layer(0–300 m) of the northern South China Sea(NSCS), we classify the upper layer water of the NSCS into six water masses: diluted water(D), surface water(SS),the SCS subsurface water mass(U_S), the Pacific Ocean subsurface water mass(U_P), surface-subsurface mixed water(SU) and subsurface-intermediate mixed water(UI). A new stacked stereogram is used to illustrate the water mass distribution, and to examine the source and the distribution of U_P, combining with the sea surface height data and geostrophic current field. The results show that water mass U_P exists in all four seasons with the maximum range in spring and the minimum range in summer. In spring and winter, the U_P intrudes into the Luzon Strait and the southwest of Taiwan Island via the northern Luzon Strait in the form of nonlinear Rossby eddies, and forms a high temperature and high salinity zone east of the Dongsha Islands. In summer, the U_P is sporadically distributed in the study area. In autumn, the U_P is located in the upper 200 m layer east of Hainan Island.Jia Zhu Quanan Zheng Jianyu Hu Hongyang Lin Dewen Chen Zhaozhang Chen Zhenyu Sun Liyan Li Hao Kong 2019Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,4:5
Statistical analysis of mesoscale eddy propagation velocity in the South China Sea deep basin显示文摘Using mesoscale eddy trajectory product derived from satellite altimetry data from 1993 to 2017,this study analyzes the statistical characteristics of spatiotemporal distribution of mesoscale eddy propagation velocities(C)in the South China Sea(SCS)deep basin with depths>1000 m.Climatologically, the zonal propagation velocities(cx)are westwards in the whole basin, and the meridional velocities(cy)are southwards in the northwestern basin, and northwards in the southeastern basin. The variation of cy with longitude is consistent with that of the background meridional currents with correlation coefficient R2 of 0.96,while the variation of cx is related both to the background zonal currents andβeffect. The propagation velocities characterize significant seasonality with the minimum magnitude occurring in summer and the maximum in winter for cx and C.Interannually, larger values of cx and cy mostly occurred in La Ni?a years in the negative phase of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO).Mesoscale eddies move fast at the beginning and end of their life span,i.e.,at their growth and dissipation periods, and slowly during their stable'midlife'period. This trend is negatively correlated with the rotating tangential velocity with R2 of–0.93.Eddies with extreme propagation velocities are defined, which are slower(faster)than 1.5 cm/s(15.4 cm/s)and take 1.5%(1.9%)of the total eddies. The extremely slow-moving(fastmoving)eddies tend to appear in the middle(on the edge)of the basin, and mostly occur in summer(winter). The mechanism analysis reveals that the spatiotemporal distributions of the propagation velocities of mesoscale eddies in the SCS are modulated by the basin-scale background circulation.Runqi Huang Lingling Xie Quanan Zheng Mingming Li Peng Bai Keyi Tan 2020Acta Oceanologica Sinica2020,39,11:4

Role of slip and {10-12} twin on the crystal plasticity in Mg-RE alloy during deformation process at room temperature显示文摘The deformation mechanism of slips and twins has a considerable influence on the plasticity of magnesium alloys. However, the roles of slips and twins in the room-temperature deformation of Mg-rare earth(Mg-RE) alloys with high contents of rare earth elements is rarely investigated. Here, the microstructural evolution and deformation mechanism of an aged Mg-5 Y-2 Nd-3 Sm-0.5 Zr alloy during uniaxial compression at room temperature were systematically investigated using in-situ electron-backscattered diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The results indicated that in the early stage of deformation, the Mg-RE alloy was mainly controlled by the slip of dislocations in the basal plane and the coordinated c-axis strain of the {10-12} twin. With an increase in the strain, the grain orientation became more suitable for the initiation of pyramidal Ⅱ dislocations in the later stage of deformation;these dominated the deformation mechanism. In the twin evolution of the Mg-RE alloy, there were three types of twin-twin interaction behaviors:(i) single twin variant 'parallel' structure,(ii) single twin variant 'cross' structure, and(iii) multi twin variant 'cross' structure. In addition, three types of twin-grain boundary interaction behaviors were summarized:(i) twin 'refracting through' grain boundary,(ii) twin'parallel through' grain boundary, and(iii) twin 'fusing through' grain boundary, which are expected to act as new means and solutions for the twin strengthening of magnesium alloys.Yunwei Gui Yujie Cui Huakang Bian Quanan Li Lingxiao Ouyang Akihiko Chiba 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,21:3
Seasonal and interannual variability of water mass sources of Indonesian throughflow in the Maluku Sea and the Halmahera Sea显示文摘So far, large uncertainties of the Indonesian throughflow(ITF) reside in the eastern Indonesian seas, such as the Maluku Sea and the Halmahera Sea. In this study, the water sources of the Maluku Sea and the Halmahera Sea are diagnosed at seasonal and interannual timescales and at different vertical layers, using the state-of-the-art simulations of the Ocean General Circulation Model(OGCM) for Earth Simulator(OFES). Asian monsoon leaves clear seasonal footprints on the eastern Indonesian seas. Consequently, the subsurface waters(around 24.5σ_θ and at ~150 m) in both the Maluku Sea and the Halmahera Sea stem from the South Pacific(SP) during winter monsoon, but during summer monsoon the Maluku Sea is from the North Pacific(NP), and the Halmahera Sea is a mixture of waters originating from the NP and the SP. The monsoon impact decreases with depth, so that in the Maluku Sea, the intermediate water(around 26.8σ_θ and at ~480 m) is always from the northern Banda Sea and the Halmahera Sea water is mainly from the SP in winter and the Banda Sea in summer. The deep waters(around27.2σ_θ and at ~1 040 m) in both seas are from the SP, with weak seasonal variability. At the interannual timescale, the subsurface water in the Maluku Sea originates from the NP/SP during El Ni?o/La Ni?a, while the subsurface water in the Halmahera Sea always originates from the SP. Similar to the seasonal variability, the intermediate water in Maluku Sea mainly comes from the Banda Sea and the Halmahera Sea always originates from the SP. The deep waters in both seas are from the SP. Our findings are helpful for drawing a comprehensive picture of the water properties in the Indonesian seas and will contribute to a better understanding of the ocean-atmosphere interaction over the maritime continent.Lu Wang Lei Zhou Lingling Xie Quanan Zheng Qiang Li Mingming Li 2019Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,4:3
Unusual coastal ocean cooling in the northern South China Sea by a katabatic cold jet associated with Typhoon Mujigea(2015)显示文摘This study deals with a unusual cooling event after Typhoon Mujigea passed over the northern South China Sea(SCS) in October 2015. We analyze the satellite sea surface temperature(SST) time series from October 3 to 18,2015 and find that the cooling process in the coastal ocean had two different stages. The first stage occurred immediately after typhoon passage on October 3, and reached a maximum SST drop of –2℃ on October 7 as the usual cold wake after typhoon. The second stage or the unusual extended cooling event occurred after 7d of the typhoon passage, and lasted for 5d from October 10 to 15. The maximum SST cooling was –4℃ and occurred after 12d of typhoon passage. The mechanism analysis results indicate that after landing and moving northwestward to the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau(YGP), Typhoon Mujigea(2015) met the westerly wind front on October 5. The lowpressure and positive-vorticity disturbances to the front triggered meridional air flow and low-pressure trough, thus induced a katabatic cold jet downward from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP) passing through the YGP to the northwestern SCS. The second cooling reached the maximum SST drop 4d later after the maximum air temperature drop of –9℃ on October 11. The simultaneous air temperature and SST observations at three coastal stations reveal that it is this katabatic cold jet intrusion to lead the unusual SST cooling event.Yuxin Shi Lingling Xie Quanan Zheng Shuwen Zhang Mingming Li Junyi Li 2019Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,5:2
A study of long-term sea level variability in the East China Sea显示文摘From the analyses of the satellite altimeter Maps of Sea Level Anomaly(MSLA) data, tidal gauge sea level data and historical sea level data, this paper investigates the long-term sea level variability in the East China Sea(ECS).Based on the correlation analysis, we calculate the correlation coefficient between tidal gauge and the closest MSLA grid point, then generate the map of correlation coefficient of the entire ECS. The results show that the satellite altimeter MSLA data is effective to observe coastal sea level variability. An important finding is that from map of correlation coefficient we can identify the Kuroshio. The existence of Kuroshio decreases the correlation between coastal and the Pacific sea level. Kurishio likes a barrier or a wall, which blocks the effect of the Pacific and the global change. Moreover, coastal sea level in the ECS is mainly associated with local systems rather than global change. In order to calculate the long-term sea level variability trend, the empirical mode decomposition(EMD) method is applied to derive the trend on each MSLA grid point in the entire ECS. According to the 2-D distribution of the trend and rising rate, the sea level on the right side of the axis of Kuroshio rise faster than in its left side. This result supports the barrier effect of Kuroshio in the ECS. For the entire ECS, the average sea level rose 45.0 mm between 1993 and 2010, with a rising rate of(2.5±0.4) mm/a which is slower than global average. The relatively slower sea level rising rate further proves that sea level rise in the ECS has less response to global change due to its own local system effect.XU Ying LIN Mingsen ZHENG Quanan YE Xiaomin LI Junyi ZHU Benlu 2015Acta Oceanologica Sinica2015,34,11:1
Atmospheric frontal gravity waves observed in satellite SAR images of the Bohai Sea and Huanghai Sea显示文摘In the satellite synthetic aperture radar(SAR) images of the Bohai Sea and Huanghai Sea,the authors observe sea surface imprints of wave-like patterns with an average wavelength of 3.8 km.Comparing SAR observations with sea surface wind fields and surface weather maps, the authors find that the occurrence of the wave-like phenomena is associated with the passing of atmospheric front. The authors define the waves as atmospheric frontal gravity waves. The dynamical parameters of the wave packets are derived from statistics of 9 satellite SAR images obtained from 2002 to 2008.A two-dimensional linear physical wave model is used to analyze the generation mechanism of the waves. The atmospheric frontal wave induced wind variation across the frontal wave packet is compared with wind retrievals from the SAR images. The CMOD-5(C-band scatterometer ocean geophysical model function) is used for SAR wind retrievals VV(transmitted vertical and received vertical) for ENVISAT and HH(transmitted horizontally and received horizontally) for RADARSAT-1.A reasonable agreement between the analytical solution and the SAR observation is reached. This new SAR frontal wave observation adds to the school of SAR observations of sea surface imprints of AGWs including island lee waves, coastal lee waves, and upstream Atmospheric Gravity Waves(AGW).LIU Shuming LI Ziwei YANG Xiaofeng Pichel William G YU Yang ZHENG Quanan LI Xiaofeng 2010Acta Oceanologica Sinica2010,29,5:1

Effect of thermo-mechanical processing parameters on the dynamic restoration mechanism in an Mg-4Y-2Nd-1Sm-0.5Zr alloy during hot compression显示文摘Microstructure evolution and dynamic restoration mechanism of solution-treated Mg-4Y-2Nd-1Sm-0.5Zr alloy have been studied under three TMP parameters consisting of deformation temperatures(350-500℃),strain rates(0.01-5 s^(-1)),and strains(0.2,0.4,and 0.8).A strong dynamic softening is observed in all stress-strain curves, even at higher strain rates(1 and 5 s^(-1))due to an adiabatic heating effect.Various stress-strain curves are applied to construct a processing map and develop an Arrhenius-type constitutive equation. With the prediction of the processing map,an optimal processing domain has been determined to be the temperature range 450-500℃and strain rate range 0.01-0.1 s^(-1)at a strain of 0.8.The volume fraction of DRX grains is the largest in the corresponding domain of high temperature and low strain rate. For the effect of TMP parameters on the dynamic restoration, the discontinuous dynamic recrystallization(DDRX)and continuous DRX(CDRX)synergistic effect occur throughout the whole process at high temperature and high strain rate.In terms of high temperature and low strain rate,DDRX characteristics at a low strain and then the DDRX+CDRX synergistic effect is observed at a higher strain.Although the DRX process is weak at low temperature and low strain rate, deformation twins have occurred and provided nucleation sites for DRX grains.Yunwei Gui Lingxiao Ouyang Yibei Xue Quanan Li 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,31:0
