| 1 | Valorization of mining waste and tailings through paste backfilling solution, Imiter operation, Morocco显示文摘Mine waste and process tailings storage is one of important challenge for which mining operations are increasingly confronted. Treatment discharges of plants and main part of waste rock development are generally stored on surface areas. The volume and chemical characteristics of these materials generate serious problem for required storage spaces and mainly environmental degradation. Paste backfill(PBF) is one of ingenious solutions to minimize the quantity of tailings to store. PBF is basically defined as a combination of mine processing tailings, binder, and water mixing. The purpose of this paper is to present backfilling components characterization and formula verification for a waste valorization solution through paste backfilling technology in Imiter operation. Obtained results and realized analysis demonstrate PBF conformity and adequacy with assigned underground functions. | 2 | Breaking seed dormancy in Cupressus atlantica Gaussen,an endemicand threatened coniferous tree in Morocco显示文摘Cupressus atlantica Gaussen (Cupressaceae) is an endemic and endangered coniferous tree geographically restricted to the N’Fis valley in South-Western Morocco. Like many forest species, C. atlantica exhibits dormancy which delays and reduces germination. To improveseed germination, different pre-treatments were conducted on C.atlantica seeds after storage for different periods (one, two and five years) including: scarification with sandy paper; soaking seeds in hot distilled water at 60℃and 80℃for 15 min and soaking seeds for 48 h in agibberellic acid (GA3) at 1,000 and 2,000 mg·L-1. Results showed that scarification with sandy paper increased the germination rate of Atlas cypress by up to 67%, indicating that the species possess essentially anexogenous dormancy (physical dormancy) due to the hard seed coat(hardseededness). Exogenous application of gibberellic acid (GA3) at1,000 mg·L-1 was also effective in breaking seed dormancy and germination induction. These two treatments induced faster speed germination expressed by low number of days to first germination (8 10days) and low values of mean germination times (MGT). However,germination rate, under any treatment, is greatly dependent on the year of seed collection. Seeds collected in year 2004 gave the highest value,suggesting that even after five years of storage, the germination capacity of C. atlantica seeds could remain high. | 3 | Characterization and photoluminescence properties of ultrafine copper molybdate(α-CuMoO_4) powders prepared via a combustion-like process显示文摘We report a simple method for preparing copper(II) molybdate(CuMoO_4) powders via a combustion-like process. A gel was first prepared by the polymerizable complex method, where citric acid was used as a complexing and polymerizing agent and nitric acid was used as an oxidizing agent. The thermal decomposition behavior of the(CuMo)-precursor gel was studied by thermogravimetry–differential thermal analysis(TG–DTA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), and X-ray diffraction(XRD). We observed that the crystallization of CuMoO_4 powder was completed at 450°C. The obtained homogeneous powder was composed of grains with sizes in the range from 150 to 500 nm and exhibited a specific surface area of approximately 5 m^2/g. The average grain size increased with increasing annealing temperature. The as-prepared CuMoO_4 crystals showed a strong green photoluminescence emission at room temperature under excitation at 290 nm, which we mainly interpreted on the basis of the Jahn-Teller effect on [MoO_4^(2-)] complex anions. It consists of web geospatial application so-called HydrIS ( Hydrogeological Information System) based on Open Source components and technologies, leading to a feasible and low-cost solution. Therefore, HydrIS permits delivery of data from a number of heterogeneous sources to standards supported by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The protocols used for exchanging data are also derived from OGC standards, i.e., WMS (Web Mapping Service), WFS (Web Feature Service), and WCS (Web Coverage Service). Finally, a geoportal was developed, which consists of client-applications that communicate with different Web Services (WMS, WCS, anAd WprFoSto) ttyhpreo ufogrh wHeTbT-Pb-aresqeude GstISs. application was designed using the deegree Framework to provide systematic interfaces and functions. This system was developed to demonstrate the value of making hydrogeological data more widely accessible through client/server architecture. This experience and knowledge already gained in this project will be a source for technology transfer and policy decisions. | 12 | Do model choice and sample ratios separately or simultaneously influence soil organic matter prediction?显示文摘This study was performed to examine the separate and simultaneous influence of predictive models’choice alongside sample ratios selection in soil organic matter(SOM).The research was carried out in northern Morocco,characterized by relatively cold weather and diverse geological conditions.The dataset herein used accounted for 1591 soil samples,which were randomly split into the following ratios:10%(∼150 sample ratio),20%(∼250 sample ratio),35%(∼450 sample ratio),50%(∼600 sample ratio)and 95%(∼1200 sample ratio).Models herein involved were ordinary kriging(OK),regression kriging(RK),multiple linear regression(MLR),random forest(RF),quantile regression forest(QRF),Gaussian process regression(GPR)and an ensemble model.The findings in the study showed that the accuracy of SOM prediction is sensitive to both predictive models and sample ratios.OK combined with 95%sample ratio performed equally to RF in conjunction with all the sample ratios,as the latter did not show much sensitivity to sample ratios.ANOVA results revealed that RF with a∼10%sample ratio could also be optimum for predicting SOM in the study area.In conclusion,the findings herein reported could be instrumental for producing cost-effective detailed and accurate spatial estimation of SOM in other sites.Furthermore,they could serve as a baseline study for future research in the region or elsewhere.Therefore,we recommend conducting series of simulation of all possible combinations between various predictive models and sample ratios as a preliminary step in soil organic matter prediction. | Kingsley John Yassine Bouslihim Kokei Ikpi Ofem Lahcen Hssaini Rachid Razouk Paul Bassey Okon Isong Abraham Isong Prince Chapman Agyeman Ndiye Michael Kebonye Chengzhi Qin | 2022 | International Soil and Water Conservation Research2022,10,3: | 1 |

| 18 | Comparing growth and fine root distribution in monocultures and mixed plantations of hybrid poplar and spruce显示文摘Disease prevention, biodiversity, productivity improvement and ecological considerations are all factors that contribute to increasing interest in mixed plantations. The objective of this study was to evaluate early growth and productivity of two hybrid poplar clones, P. balsamifera x trichocarpa (PBT) and P. maximowiczii x balsamifera (PMB), one improved family of Norway spruce (Picea glauca (PA)) and one improved family of white spruce (Picea abies (PG)) growing under different spacings in monocultures and mixed plots. The plantations were established in 2003 in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, Canada, in a split plot design with spacing as the whole plot factor (1 × 1 m, 3 × 3 m and 5 × 5 m) and mixture treatments as subplot factor (pure: PBT, PMB, PA and PG, and 1:1 mixture PBT:PA, PBT:PG, PMB:PA and PMB:PG). Results showed a beneficial effect of the hybrid poplar-spruce mixture on diameter growth for hybrid poplar clones, but not for the 5 × 5 m spacing because of the relatively young age of the plantations. Diameter growth of the spruces decreased in mixed plantings in the 1 × 1 m, while their height growth increased, resulting in similar aboveground biomass per tree across treatments. Because of the large size differences between spruces and poplars, aboveground biomass in the mixed plantings was generally less than that in pure poplar plots. Leaf nitrogen concentration for the two spruce families and hybrid poplar clone PMB was greater in mixed plots than in monocultures, while leaf nitrogen concentration of clone PBT was similar among mixture treatments. Because of its faster growth rate and greater soil resources demands, clone PMB was the only one showing an increase in leaf N with increased spacing between trees. | 19 | Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Arbutus unedo aqueous extract显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of aqueous extract of Arbutus unedo(A. unedo) leaves.Methods: In this context, the in vitro antioxidant activity was demonstrated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, hydroxyl radical and H_2O_2 radical scavenging, ferrous ion chelating, ferric reducing power, total antioxidant capacity and by the protection against peroxidation of b-carotene-linoleic acid in emulsion. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated first by studying the membrane of human red blood cells against different hypotonic concentrations of Na Cl and against heat, inhibiting the denaturation of albumin.Results: Total phenolic and flavonoid content were found respectively [(207.84 ± 15.03)mg gallic acid equivalent/g, and(13.070 ± 0.096) mg quercetin equivalent/g]. The extract displayed significant scavenging activity of some radicals such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl [IC_(50)at(7.956 ± 0.278) mg/m L],OH [IC_(50)=(1 015.74 ± 46.35 mg/m L)], H_2O_2[IC_(50)=(114.77 ± 16.86) mg/m L] and showed a good antioxidant activity through ferrous ion chelating activity [IC_(50)=(1 014.30 ± 36.21) mg/m L], ferric reducing power [IC_(50)=(156.55 ± 17.40) mg/m L], total antioxidant capacity [IC_(50)=(461.67± 4.16) mg/m L] and b-carotene-linoleic acid protection against peroxidation [I% =(87.04 ± 1.21)% at 1 000 mg/m L].Conclusions: A. unedo showed in vitro anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the heat induced albumin denaturation and red blood cells membrane stabilization. Our results show that aqueous leaf extract of A. unedo has good antioxidant activity and interesting anti-inflammatory properties.
