| 9 | Fossil seeds of Euryale(Nymphaeaceae) indicate a lake or swamp environment in the late Miocene Zhaotong Basin of southwestern China显示文摘Euryale(Nymphaeaceae) is a monotypic genus distributed in eastern Asia, but fossils in its native distribution are sparse as compared to Europe where the genus has disappeared. Here, we describe a new fossil species, Euryale yunnanensis sp. nov., from the late Miocene Zhaotong Basin in southwestern China on the basis of seed remains. Characteristics including an ellipsoidal to almost spherical shape,a smooth surface, a germination cap that covers the micropyle, the separation of the hilum and germination cap(micropyle), elliptic testa surface cells with undulate margins and thickened cell walls collectively indicate a close affinity with the genus Euryale in Nymphaeaceae. Comparisons ofseed morphology and anatomy demonstrate that the newly described fossil species differs from modern and other fossil species of Euryale and thus verify the assignment to a new fossil species. As the modern Euryale is an aquatic plant,preferably living in swamps and lakes with shallow and stable water, we hypothesize that a lake and/or swamp environment with shallow water was present near Shuitangba in the Zhaotong Basin, where the Shuitangba hominoid lived during the late Miocene. This inference is generally consistent with paleoenvironmental data extracted from avian, fish, frog, turtle and crocodile fossils, as well as from aquatic pollen. | 17 | Three‑Dimensional Numerical Modeling of Ground Ice Ablation in a Retrogressive Thaw Slump and Its Hydrological Ecosystem Response on the Qinghai‑Tibet Plateau,China显示文摘Retrogressive thaw slumps(RTSs),which frequently occur in permafrost regions of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP),China,can cause signifcant damage to the local surface,resulting in material losses and posing a threat to infrastructure and ecosystems in the region.However,quantitative assessment of ground ice ablation and hydrological ecosystem response was limited due to a lack of understanding of the complex hydro-thermal process during RTS development.In this study,we developed a three-dimensional hydro-thermal coupled numerical model of a RTS in the permafrost terrain at the Beilu River Basin of the QTP,including ice–water phase transitions,heat exchange,mass transport,and the parameterized exchange of heat between the active layer and air.Based on the calibrated hydro-thermal model and combined with the electrical resistivity tomography survey and sample analysis results,a method for estimating the melting of ground ice was proposed.Simulation results indicate that the model efectively refects the factual hydro-thermal regime of the RTS and can evaluate the ground ice ablation and total suspended sediment variation,represented by turbidity.Between 2011 and 2021,the maximum simulated ground ice ablation was in 2016 within the slump region,amounting to a total of 492 m^(3),and it induced the reciprocal evolution,especially in the headwall of the RTS.High ponding depression water turbidity values of 28 and 49 occurred in the thawing season in 2021.The simulated ground ice ablation and turbidity events were highly correlated with climatic warming and wetting.The results ofer a valuable approach to assessing the efects of RTS on infrastructure and the environment,especially in the context of a changing climate. | Fujun Niu Chenglong Jiao Jing Luo Junlin He Peifeng He | 2023 | International Journal of Disaster Risk Science2023,14,4: | 0 |

| 19 | Notch signaling leads to a slower progression of embryonic myogenic differentiation in Landrace than in Langtang pigs显示文摘Delving into porcine embryonic myogenesis is the key to elucidate the complex regulation of breed-specific differences in growth performance and meat production.Increasing evidence proves that pigs with less meat production show earlier embryonic myogenesis,but little is known about the underlying mechanisms.In this study,we examine the longissimus dorsi muscle(LDM)by immunohistochemistry and confirm that the differentiation of myogenic progenitors is increased(P<0.05)in Lantang(LT,fatty)pigs compared with that in Landrace(LR,lean)pigs,which results in more(P<0.001)differentiated myoblasts(Pax7-/MyoD^(+))and less(P<0.001)myogenic progenitors(Pax7^(+)/MyoD^(-))in LT pigs at 35 days post-conception(35dpc).Additionally,embryonic myogenic progenitors isolated from LT pigs show greater(P<0.001)differentiation capacity with earlier expression of MyoD compared with those from LR pigs.Moreover,Notch signaling is more active(P<0.05)in LR pig myogenic progenitors than in LT pig myogenic progenitors.Inhibition of Notch signaling in LR myogenic progenitors suppresses Pax7 expression and increases MyoD expression,thus promoting myogenic differentiation.Consistently,the process of myogenic progenitors differentiating into myoblasts in ex vivo embryo limbs is accelerated when Notch signaling is inhibited.These results indicate that Notch signaling facilitates the maintenance of myogenic progenitors and antagonizes myogenic differentiation by promoting Pax7 expression and preventing MyoD expression in LR pigs. | Shufang Cai Bin Hu Qi Zhu Tianqi Duo Xiaoyu Wang Xian Tong Xiaorong Luo Renqiang Yuan Yaosheng Chen Jing Wang Chenglong Luo Baosong Xing Delin Mo | 2022 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2022,54,8: | 0 |

The pretrial period lasted for 7 d,and the formal trial period was 60 d. The music began to be played in test group from pretrial period,while the control group received routine feeding. Milk yield was measured every 20 d,and milk sample was collected once. The results showed that African percussion music could increase the contents of GLB,ALT and LDH in the serum of cow,and reduce the milk yield of cow.
