1Spurious Thermoluminescence Characteristics of the Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation(ca. 635–551 Ma) and Its Implications for Marine Dissolved Organic Carbon Reservoir显示文摘The Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation(ca. 635–551 Ma) deposited immediately after the last Neoproterozoic glaciations and recorded the most prominent negative excursions of carbonate carbon isotopic composition(δ^(13)C_(carb)). These excursions have been interpreted as a result of widespread remineralization of a large dissolved organic carbon(DOC) reservoir in the Ediacaran deep oceans. However, there is no direct evidence so far found in rocks for the proposed DOC reservoir, which devalues such an interpretation. Here, we conducted a detailed study on the glow-curves characteristics and signal origins of spurious thermoluminescence(TL) of the Doushantuo Formation at Jiulongwan in Yangtze Gorges area, South China, through sequential tests under CO_2, N_2 and air. Spurious TL intensities for test samples before and after removing soluble organic matter via accelerated solvent extraction(ASE) are nearly identical. Further, significant positive correlation between the spurious TL intensity and total inorganic carbon(TIC) content(R^2=0.7) indicate that the Doushantuo spurious TL with the characteristic peak at 393.5 °C from the sequential test is chemiluminescence(CL) which is derived from the oxidation of a type of non-volatile organic matter strongly associated with carbonate mineral lattice(termed as 'X-OM'). A most likely explanation is that the X-OM is a type of dissolved organic matter which co-precipitated with carbonate minerals into sediments in the Ediacaran Doushantuo Ocean. Furthermore, a significant exponential negative correlation(R^2=0.55) is observed between the CL data and the isotopic difference between carbonate and coexisting bulk organic matter(i.e., Δ^(13)C_(carb-org), a proxy for remineralization degree of DOC reservoir in proposed DOC hypothesis), suggesting that the X-OM was derived from the oxidation of the DOC reservoir in the Ediacaran Ocean. We thus propose that the X-OM and its CL detected in our study may have recorded the evolution of the possible DOC reservoir in the Ediacaran Doushantuo Ocean. If this is correct, the stratigraphic variations of the CL intensity in the Doushantuo Formation at Jiulongwan support the pulsed oxidation of the DOC reservoir in the Ediacaran Ocean. Our findings indicate that the CL derived from the oxidation of non-volatile organic matter which is strongly associated with carbonate mineral lattices in rocks may provide a feasible approach for probing the evolution of DOC reservoir in the ancient oceans, thus likely provide direct geological evidence for the development of oceanic DOC reservoir in geological times.Haiyang Wang Chao Li Chaoyong Hu Shucheng Xie 2015Journal of Earth Science2015,26,6:12
2A theoretical prediction of chemical zonation in early oceans(>520 Ma)显示文摘Early oceans(>520 Ma) were characterized by widespread water-column anoxia, stratification, and limited oxidant availability, which are comparable to the chemical characteristics of modern marine sedimentary pore-waters in productive continental margins. Based on this similarity and our current understanding of the formation mechanism of early Earth ocean chemistry, we propose an idealized chemical zonation model for early oceans that includes the following redox zones(from shallow nearshore to deep offshore regions): oxic, nitrogenous(NO3?-NO2?-enriched), manganous-ferruginous(Mn2+ or Fe2+-enriched), sulfidic(H2S-enriched), methanic(CH4-enriched), and ferruginous(Fe2+-enriched). These zones were dynamically maintained by a combination of processes including surface-water oxygenation by atmospheric free oxygen, nitrate reduction beneath the chemocline, nearshore manganese-iron reduction, sulfate reduction, methanogenesis, and hydrothermal Fe2+ inputs from the deep ocean. Our modified 'euxinic wedge' model expands on previous versions of this model, providing a more complete theoretical framework for the chemical zonation of early Earth oceans that helps to explain observations of unusual Mo-S-C isotope patterns. 4Determination of PCDD/Fs and dioxin-like PCBs in food and feed using gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry显示文摘A method was developed on a gas chromatograph coupled to a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer(GC-MS/MS) for trace level determination of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/dibenzofurans(PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls(DL-PCBs) in food and feed. The results demonstrated good sensitivity and repeatability for PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs at an extremely low level(10 pg mL^(-1) for 2,3,7,8-TCDD/F), as well as wide linear response of over 3 or 4 orders of magnitude in concentration ranges; 0.5–200 ng mL^(-1) for PeCDD/F and 0.2–2000 ng mL^(-1) for DL-PCBs. The method detection limits for PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs were in the range from 0.018–0.17 pg g^(-1) to 0.13–0.36 pg g^(-1), respectively. The performance of the GC-MS/MS for food and feed sample analysis showed high precision and accuracy compared to the high resolution gas chromatograph/high resolution mass spectrometer. 5Spatiotemporal variability of ocean chemistry in the early Cambrian,South China显示文摘Following the Ediacaran metazoan radiation,the 'Cambrian Explosion' set up the major framework of todays' animal phyla as well as modern marine ecosystem.Here,we present a preliminary investigation on the temporal and spatial(from shallow to deep waters) variations of the early Cambrian ocean chemistry in South China through analyzing a Fe-S-C systematic dataset integrated from literature.Our investigation indicates that the early Cambrian deep ocean in South China was still anoxic and Fe2+-enriched(i.e.,ferruginous) although its surface was oxic,and in between a metastable euxinic(anoxic and sulfidic) water zone may have dynamically developed in anoxic shelf waters with an increasing weathering sulfate supply.Furthermore,accompanying marine transgression and regression cycles in the early Cambrian,such a 'sandwich' structure in ocean redox chemistry demonstrates five evolutional stages,which can be well correlated to the spatiotemporal patterns of fossil records in South China.The good correlation between metazoan fossil occurrences and water chemistry in South China suggests that early animals possibly possessed ability to inhabit anoxic but generally not euxinic environments as free H2S was fatal to most eukaryotes.This view can well explain why those small shell fauna and sponges disappeared from shelf to slope areas where sulfidic Ni-Mo-rich shales were widely deposited.Thus,we conclude that the spatiotemporal variations of ocean chemistry and its biological effects probably played a key role in the phased animal radiations and 'extinctions' in the early Cambrian.JIN ChengSheng LI Chao PENG XingFang CUI Hao SHI Wei ZHANG ZiHu LUO GenMing XIE ShuCheng 2014Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,4:5
6Discovering unusual structures from exception using big data and machine learning techniques显示文摘Recently, machine learning(ML) has become a widely used technique in materials science study. Most work focuses on predicting the rule and overall trend by building a machine learning model. However,new insights are often learnt from exceptions against the overall trend. In this work, we demonstrate that how unusual structures are discovered from exceptions when machine learning is used to get the relationship between atomic and electronic structures based on big data from high-throughput calculation database. For example, after training an ML model for the relationship between atomic and electronic structures of crystals, we find AgO2 F, an unusual structure with both Ag3+and O22à, from structures whose band gap deviates much from the prediction made by our model. 7Mo marine geochemistry and reconstruction of ancient ocean redox states显示文摘Molybdenum(Mo) proxies, including bulk concentration and isotopic composition, have been increasingly used to reconstruct ancient ocean redox states. This study systematically reviews Mo cycles and their accompanying isotopic fractionations in modern ocean as well as their application in paleo-ocean redox reconstruction. Our review indicates that Mo enrichment in sediments mainly records the adsorption of Fe-Mn oxides/hydroxides and chemical bonding of H2 S. Thus, Mo enrichment in anoxic sediments generally reflects the presence of H2 S in the water column or pore waters. In addition to the effect of euxinia, sedimentary Mo enrichment is related to the size of the oceanic Mo reservoir. Given these primary mechanisms for oceanic Mo cycling, Mo abundance data and Mo/TOC ratios acquired from euxinic sediments in geological times show that fluctuations of the oceanic Mo reservoir are well correlated with oxygenation of the atmosphere and oceans and suggest that oxygenation occurred in phases. Mo proxies suggest that Mo isotopes in strongly euxinic sediments reflect the contemporaneous Mo isotopic composition of seawater, but other processes such as iron-manganese(Fe-Mn) adsorption and weak euxinia can result in different fractionations. Diagenesis may complicate Mo enrichment and its isotopic fractionation in sediments. With appropriate constraints on the Mo isotopic composition of seawater and various outputs, a Mo isotope mass-balance model can quantitatively reconstruct global redox conditions over geological history. In summary, Mo proxies can be effectively used to reconstruct oceanic redox conditions on various timescales due to their sensitivity to both local and global marine redox conditions. 9A new MaterialGo database and its comparison with other high-throughput electronic structure databases for their predicted energy band gaps显示文摘Recently, many high-throughput calculation materials databases have been constructed and found wide applications. However, a database is only useful if its content is reliable and sufficiently accurate. It is thus of paramount importance to gauge the reliabilities and accuracies of these databases. Although many properties have been predicted accurately in these databases,electronic band gap is well known to be underestimated by traditional density functional theory(DFT) calculations under local density approximation(LDA), which becomes a challenging problem for materials database building. Here, we introduce MaterialGo(http://gffzz077c307637e74fb9h69b99bcwnfkf6co6.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/data-base.html), a new database calculating the band structures of crystals using both Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof(PBE) exchange-correlation functional and Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerhof(HSE) hybrid functional.Comparing different PBE databases, it is found that their band gaps are consistent when no U parameter is used for transition metal d-state or heavy element f-state to correct their self-interaction error, but rather different when PBE+U are used, mostly because of the different values of U used in different database. HSE calculations under standard parameters will give larger band gaps that are closer to experiment. 10Atmospheric levels and distribution of Dechlorane Plus in an E-waste dismantling region of East China显示文摘Atmospheric concentrations of Dechlorane Plus(DP)were investigated in Taizhou,an electronic-waste(E-waste)dismantling region in East China.Passive air samplers with polyurethane foam(PUF)disks were deployed every three months during the sampling period of September 2009-August 2010.The total DP(syn-and anti-DP)concentrations in air ranged from not detected to 277 pg/m^3,with a mean concentration of 53.9 pg/m^3.A generally declining trend of DP levels was found from the E-waste dismantling region to the peripheral areas.The median values of total DP concentrations in autumn,winter,spring and summer were 52.2,28.8,39.7 and 30.1 pg/m^3,respectively.The seasonal variations of DP concentrations were mainly associated with the intensity of E-waste dismantling activities and meteorological conditions.The mean value of anti-DP fractional abundance(f_(anti))was 0.74±0.08,which was consistent with those in the commercial DP products.This study confirmed a significant emission source related to the distribution of atmospheric DP in the E-waste dismantling area and supplied information for the seasonal variation of DP in the atmosphere.Huizhong Sun Yingming Li Pu Wang Shucheng Zheng Julius Matsiko Dou Wang Weiwei Zhang Yanfen Hao Qinghua Zhang Guibin Jiang 2017Science China Chemistry2017,60,2:2
11Stable perovskite solar cells with efficiency of 22.6%via quinoxaline-based polymeric hole transport material显示文摘Poor stability of spiro-OMe TAD hole transport materials(HTMs)with dopant is a major obstacle for the commercialization of perovskite solar cells(pero-SCs).Herein,we demonstrate a series of quinoxaline-based D-A copolymers PBQ5,PBQ6 and PBQ10 as the dopant-free polymer HTMs for high performance pero-SCs.The D-A copolymers are composed of fluorothienyl benzodithiophene(BDTT)as D-unit,difluoroquinoxaline(DFQ)with different side chains as A-unit,and thiophene asπ-bridge,where the side chains on the DFQ unit are bi-alkyl for PBQ5,bi-alkyl-fluorothienyl for PBQ6,and alkoxyl for PBQ10.All the three copolymers are adopted as the dopant-free HTM in the pero-SCs.The planar n-i-p structured pero-SCs based on(FAPb I_(3))_(0.98)(MAPb Br_(3))_(0.02)with PBQ6 HTM demonstrated the high power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 22.6%with Vocof1.13 V and FF of 80.8%,which is benefitted from the suitable energy level and high hole mobility of PBQ6.The PCE of 22.6%is the highest efficiency reported in the n-i-p structured pero-SCs based on dopant-free D-A copolymer HTM.In addition,the peroSCs show significantly enhanced ambient,thermal and light-soaking stability compared with the devices with traditional spiroOMe TAD HTM.Chenxing Lu Can Zhu Lei Meng Chenkai Sun Wenbin Lai Shucheng Qin Jinyuan Zhang Wenchao Huang Jiaqi Du Yiyang Wang Yongfang Li 2021Science China Chemistry2021,64,11:2

13Orbitofrontal cortex action of 5-hydroxytryptamine and its receptor in an acute forced swimming stress-induced depression model显示文摘BACKGROUND:The orbitofrontal cortex(OFC) is a brain region closely associated with emotion. 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT) has been shown to be involved in human depression. OBJECTIVE:To investigate OFC actions and mechanisms of 5-HT and 5-HT_(1A) receptor(5-HT_(1A)R) in stress-induced depression. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:A randomized,controlled,animal experiment was performed at Laboratory of Neurobiology,College of Life Science,Shaanxi Normal University between May 2006 and March 2008. MATERIALS:5-HT,p-chlorophenylalanine(PCPA,an inhibitor to tryptophan hydroxylase) and spiperone(5-HT_(1A)R antagonist) were provided by Sigma,USA;rabbit anti-rat 5-HT_(1A)R antibody was provided by Tianjin Haoyang Biological Manufacture. METHODS:A total of 40 male Sprague Dawley rats,aged 3 months,were randomly divided into five groups:control,model,5-HT,spiperone+5-HT,and PCPA,with 8 rats in each group.Except for control group,rats in the other four groups were used to establish depression models by forced swimming for 15 minutes.At 30 minutes before forced swimming test,0.5μL of 5-HT(12.5μg/μL), PCPA(20μg/μL),spiperone(1.3μg/μL)+5-HT(12.5μg/μL,10 minutes later),and saline were respectively injected into the OFC of 5-HT,PCPA,spiperone+5-HT,and model groups,respectively. The control group received a saline microinjection into the OFC. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Forced swimming and open field tests were employed to measure animal behaviors,and immunohistochemistry was used to analyze 5-HT_(1A)R expression in the OFC, cingulate cortex,and piriform cortex. RESULTS:(1) Compared with the model group,5-HT microinjection into the OFC prominently reduced immobility time in the forced swimming test and rearing in open field test(P<0.05); locomotion and grooming in open field test were increased,although there was no significance(P>0.05).Furthermore,following PCPA microinjection into the OFC(PCPA+forced swimming stress), immobility time in forced swimming test increased dramatically(P<0.01),locomotion and rearing in open field test declined(P<0.05 and P<0.01,respectively).Compared with the 5-HT group, 5-HT_(1A)R antagonist(spiperone+5-HT+forced swimming stress) increased immobility time in forced swimming test(P<0.01),but decreased locomotion,rearing,and grooming in open field test. (2) Forced swimming stress markedly elevated 5-HT_(1A)R expression in OFC,cingulate cortex,and piriform cortex(P<0.05 or P<0.01). 14Unusual relationship between impact toughness and grain size in a high-manganese steel显示文摘The high-manganese steels are important structural materials,owing to their excellent toughness at low temperatures.However,the microstructural causes for their unusual properties have not adequately been understood thus far.Here,we report a reversal relationship between impact toughness and grain size in a high-manganese steel and its unrevealed microscopic mechanisms,which result in an excellent low-temperature toughness of the steel.Our investigations show that with increasing grain size the impact toughness of the steel can be improved drastically,especially at low-temperatures.Advanced electron microscopy characterization reveals that the enhanced impact toughness of the coarse-grained steel is attributed to the twinning induced plasticity and transformation induced plasticity effects,which produce large quantities of deformation twins,ε_(hcp)-martensite andα'_(bcc)-martensite.Inversely,in the fine-grained steels,the formation of deformation twins and martensite is significantly inhibited,leading to the decrease of impact toughness.Microstructural characterizations also indicate thatε_(hcp)-martensite becomes more stable thanα'_(bcc)-martensite with decreasing temperature,resulting in characteristic microstructures in the coarse-grained samples after impact deformation at liquid nitrogen temperature.In the coarse-grained samples under impact deformation at-80℃,ε_(hcp)-martensite transformation,α'_(bcc)-martensite transformation and deformation twinning all occur simultaneously,which greatly improves the toughness of the steel.Pan Xie Shucheng Shen Cuilan Wu Jiehua Li Jianghua Chen 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,30:2

17Synchronous nanoscale topographic and chemical mapping by differential-confocal controlled Raman microscopy显示文摘Confocal Raman microscopy is currently used for label-free optical sensing and imaging within the biological,engineering,and physical sciences as well as in industry.However,currently these methods have limitations,including their low spatial resolution and poor focus stability,that restrict the breadth of new applications.This paper now introduces differential-confocal controlled Raman microscopy as a technique that fuses differential confocal microscopy and Raman spectroscopy,enabling the point-to-point collection of three-dimensional nanoscale topographic information with the simultaneous reconstruction of corresponding chemical information.The microscope collects the scattered Raman light together with the Rayleigh light,both as Rayleigh scattered and reflected light(these are normally filtered out in conventional confocal Raman systems).Inherent in the design of the instrument is a significant improvement in the axial focusing resolution of topographical features in the image(to^1 nm),which,when coupled with super-resolution image restoration,gives a lateral resolution of 220 nm.By using differential confocal imaging for controlling the Raman imaging,the system presents a significant enhancement of the focusing and measurement accuracy,precision,and stability(with an antidrift capability),mitigating against both thermal and vibrational artefacts.We also demonstrate an improved scan speed,arising as a consequence of the nonaxial scanning mode.HAN CUI YUN WANG LIRONG QIU SHUCHENG LI JONATHAN M.COOPER AND WEIQIAN ZHAO 2020Photonics Research2020,8,9:1
