1Antioxidant and antimutagenic activities of bark extract of Terminalia arjuna显示文摘Objective:The alcoholic extract of stem bark of Terminalia arjuna(ALTA) was screened for antioxidant and antimutagenic(anticlastogenic) activity.Methods:Antioxidant property was determined by l,l,Diphynyl,2-Picryl hydrazyl(DPPH) assay,super oxide radical scavenging activity,lipid peroxidation assay and total polyphenolic content was determined by Folin-Ciocalteau’s reagent.Antimutagenic activity was evaluated using micronucleus test in mice. Results:The ALTA has shown potent antioxidant activity with EC50 of 2.491±0.160,50.110±0.150 & 71.000±0.250 in DPPH assay,superoxide radical scavenging activity and lipid peroxidation assay, which is comparable with ascorbic acid with EC50 of 2.471±0.140,40.500±0.390 and 63.000±0.360 respectively.In micronucleus test,ALTA(100 & 200 mg/kg,p.o.) showed significant reduction in percentage of micronucleus in both polychromatic erythrocytes(PCE) and normochromatie erythrocytes(NCE) and also shown significant reduction in P/N ratio.Conclusions:These results suggested that ALTA possess significant antioxidant and antimutagenic activity.Gollapalle Lakshminarayana shastry Viswanatha Santosh Kumar Vaidya Ramesh C Nandakumar Krishnadas Srinath Rangappa 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,12:9
2马来亚大学医学中心门诊糖尿病患者视网膜病变的发病率(英文)显示文摘目的:评估马来亚大学医学中心眼科门诊的糖尿病性视网膜病变的发病率和它在糖尿病患者中的危险因素。方法:该横向研究包括100例近期被诊断为糖尿病患者的200眼。采集有关的眼部和全身病史并对所有的眼进行彻底散瞳眼底检查。视网膜病变的状况根据早期糖尿病性视网膜病变治疗研究(ETDRS)的结果进行分类。造成视网膜病变的危险因素是通过卡方检验进行分析的,P<0.05被认为有意义。结果:在我们的研究中,近期被诊断为糖尿病人群中糖尿病性视网膜病变的发病率为28%,Ⅱ型糖尿病患者中非增殖性视网膜病变的发病率(36%)比Ⅰ型糖尿病患者高(24%)。在两种类型的糖尿病患者中,视网膜病变的发病率与性别、年龄、种族、社会经济状况、糖尿病类型和体重指数无关。糖尿病病史较长并控制不良的患者,高血压者,伴有神经病变者,高脂血症以及有吸烟史者,视网膜病变的发病率明显高。结论:对糖尿病患者进行视网膜病变的基线筛查是可取的,因为早期发现,规律随访,合理的推荐给眼科医生并进行有效的治疗将减少以及避免患者严重的视力丧失。I Tajunisah SMS Sendhil Kumar S C Reddy 2008国际眼科杂志2008,8,4:7
3Analysis on Critical Success Factors for Agile Manufacturing Evaluation in Original Equipment Manufacturing Industry-An AHP Approach显示文摘Manufacturing industries are facing challenges in the implementation of agile manufacturing in their products and processes.Agility is widely accepted as a new competitive concept in the manufacturing sector in fulfilling varying customer demand. Thus,evaluation of agile manufacturing in industries has become a necessity. The success of an organisation depends on its ability to manage finding the critical success factors and give them special and continued attention in order to bring about high performance. This paper proposes a set of critical success factors(CSFs) for evaluating agile manufacturing considered appropriate for the manufacturing sector.The analytical hierarchy process(AHP) method is applied for prioritizing the success factors, by summarizing the opinions of experts. 4Luciferase reporter phage phAE85 for rapid detection of rifampicin resistance in clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis显示文摘Objective:To evaluate luciferase reporter phage(LRP)phAE85 in rapid detection of rifampicin resistance in a region where TB is endemic.Methods:One hundred and ninety primary isolates on Lowenstein-Jensen medium were tested.Middlebrook 7H9 complete medium with and without rifampicin at 2μg/mL was inoculated with standard inoculum from suspensions of the clinical isolate.After incubation for 72 h,LRP was added.Following 4 h of further incubation,light output from both control and test was measured as relative light units.Strains exhibiting a reduction of less than 50%relative light units in the drug containing vial compared to control were classified as resistant.Results were compared with the conventional minimum inhibitory concentration method(MIC)of drug susceptibility testing.Results:The two methods showed high level of agreement of 97%(CI 0.94,0.99)and P value was 0.000 1.The sensitivity and specificity of LRP assay for detection of rifampicin resistance were 91%h(CI 0.75,0.98)and 99ct(CI0.95,1.00)respectively.Time to detection of resistance by LRP assay was 3 d in comparison with 28 d by the minimum inhibitory concentration method.Conclusions:LRP assay with phAE85 is 99%specific,91%sensitive and is highly reproducible.Thus the assay offers a simple procedure for drug sensitivity testing,within die scope of semi-automation.Gomathi Sivaramakrishnan Balaji Subramanyam Ponnuraja C Vanaja Kumar 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,9:4

11Superior safety of direct oral anticoagulants compared to Warfarin in patients with atrial fibrillation and underlying cancer: a national veterans affairs database study显示文摘Background Studies evaluating safety of warfarin and direct oral anticoagulants(DOACs) for prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation(AF) are lacking. Methods & Results All patients(n = 196,521) receiving care at veteran’s affairs with active cancer and AF from 2010–2015 were included. One-year mortality was significantly higher in unadjusted analysis with warfarin(44.9%) compared to dabigatran(25%, P < 0.001), rivaroxaban(24.4%, P < 0.001) and apixaban(30%, P < 0.001) and after adjusting for age, sex and type of cancer mortality(OR = 2.66, 95% CI: 2.52–2.82, P < 0.001). Risk of ischemic stroke(13.5% vs. 11.1%, 12.0%, 14.0%) was similar, however risk of hemorrhagic stroke was significantly higher among patients receiving warfarin(1.2%) compared to patients receiving dabigatran(0.5%), rivaroxaban(0.7%) and apixaban(0.8%) respectively, P = 0.04. Conclusions We demonstrated the superior safety profile of DOACs compared to warfarin among patients with underlying cancer and AF.
