| 2 | Phylogenetic inferences in Prunus (Rosaceae) using chloroplast ndhF and nuclear ribosomal ITS sequences显示文摘Sequences of the chloroplast ndhF gene and the nuclear ribosomal ITS regions are employed to recon-struct the phylogeny of Prunus (Rosaceae), and evaluate the classification schemes of this genus. The two data sets are congruent in that the genera Prunus s.l. and Maddenia form a monophyletic group, with Maddenia nested within Prunus. However, the ndhF data set is incongruent with the ITS data supporting two major groups within Prunus: one consisting of subgenera Laurocerasus (including Pygeum) and Padus as well as the genus Maddenia and another of subgenera Amygdalus, Cerasus, and Prunus. The ITS data, on the other hand, support a clade composed of subgenera Amygdalus and Prunus and Prunus sect. Microcerasus in addition to a paraphyletic grade of subgenera Laurocerasus and Padus (and the genus Maddenia) taxa. In general, the subgeneric classifications of Prunus s.l. are not supported. The ITS and ndhF phylogenies differ mainly in interspecific relationships and the relative position of the Padus/Laurocerasus group. Both ITS and ndhF data sets suggest that the formerly recog-nized genus Pygeum is polyphyletic and that the distinction of the subgenera Padus and Laurocerasus is not supported. The biogeographic interactions of the temperate and tropical members in the Padus/Laurocera- sus/Maddenia alliance including Pygeum are shown to be highly dynamic and complex. | Jun WEN Scott T. | 4 | Numerical analyses of pile performance in laterally spreading frozen ground crust overlying liquefiable soils显示文摘Lateral spread of frozen ground crust over liquefied soil has caused extensive bridge foundation damage in the past winter earthquakes.A shake table experiment was conducted to investigate the performance of a model pile in this scenario and revealed unique pile failure mechanisms.The modelling results provided valuable data for validating numerical models.This paper presents analyses and results of this experiment using two numerical modeling approaches: solid-fluid coupled finite element(FE) modeling and the beam-on-nonlinear-Winkler-foundation(BNWF) method.A FE model was constructed based on the experiment configuration and subjected to earthquake loading.Soil and pile response results were presented and compared with experimental results to validate this model.The BNWF method was used to predict the pile response and failure mechanism.A p-y curve was presented for modelling the frozen ground crust with the free-field displacement from the experiment as loading.Pile responses were presented and compared with those of the experiment and FE model.It was concluded that the coupled FE model was effective in predicting formation of three plastic hinges at ground surface,ground crust-liquefiable soil interface and within the medium dense sand layer,while the BNWF method was only able to predict the latter two. | Xiaoyu Ryan Zhang Zhaohui Joey Yang | 2018 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2018,17,3: | 3 |
| 5 | Enhanced reversible capacity of Li-S battery cathode based on graphene oxide显示文摘Lithium sulfur battery (LSB) offers several advantages such as very high energy density, low-cost, and environmental-friendliness. However, it suffers from serious degradation of its reversible capacity because of the dissolution of reaction intermediates, lithium polysulfides, into the electrolyte. To solve this limitation, there are many studies using graphene-based materials due to their excellent mechanical strength and high conductivity. Compared with graphene, graphene oxide (GO) contains various oxygen functional groups, which enhance the reaction with lithium polysulfides. Here, we investigated the positive effect of using GO mixed with carbon black on the performance of cathode in LSB. We have observed a smaller drop of capacity in GO mixed sulfur cathode. We further demonstrate that the mechanistic origin of reversibility improvement, as confirmed through CV and Raman spectra, can be explained by the stabilization of sulfur in lithium polysulfide intermediates by oxygen functional groups of GO to prevent dissolution. | 7 | Advanced Noncarbon Materials as Catalyst Supports and Non‑noble Electrocatalysts for Fuel Cells and Metal–Air Batteries显示文摘Electrochemical energy systems such as fuel cells and metal–air batteries can be used as clean power sources in the field of electric transportation and possess great potential in the reduction of various energy and environmental issues.In these systems,the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)at the cathode is the rate-determining factor for overall system performance,and up to now,platinum group metals supported on carbon materials,especially Pt,remain the highest performing and the most practical ORR electrocatalysts.However,corresponding carbonaceous catalyst supports are extremely susceptible to corrosion under electrochemical operation,and therefore,the extensive exploration of alternative stable materials for ORR electrocatalysts with both high electrochemical stability and catalytic performance is essential.Here,noncarbon materials with high corrosion resistance have been explored to substitute traditional carbon supports or even act directly as low-cost non-noble metal electrocatalysts,and based on this,this review will present a comprehensive overview and deep analysis of the recent progress in noncarbon materials,including metals,oxides,nitrides,carbides,sulfides,and so on.Overall,general attributes associated with noncarbon materials include high corrosion resistance,strong metal–support interaction,and impressive porous structure retention.However,major drawbacks include low electrical conductivity,insufficient chemical stability in acidic or alkaline media,and poor electrochemical stability at ORR electrode potentials.To overcome these challenges,this review will also summarize efficient strategies such as combining with highly conductive materials,introducing dopants and forming vacancies to result in promising electrocatalytic ORR performances.Finally,this review will propose possible research directions to facilitate future research and development toward the practical application of noncarbon-based ORR electrocatalysts. | Shiming Zhang Menghui Chen Xiao Zhao Jialin Cai Wei Yan Joey Chung Yen Shengli Chen Yan Yu Jiujun Zhang | 2021 | Electrochemical Energy Reviews2021,4,2: | 2 |
| 8 | 碱性介质中碳纳米管FeNi复合物上电催化析氧反应(英文)显示文摘Non-noble metals such as Fe and Ni have comparable electrocatalytic activity and stability to that of Ir and Ru in an oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In this study, we synthesized carbon nanofibers with embedded FeNi composites (FeNi-CNFs) as OER electrocatalysts by a facile route comprising electrospinning and the pyrolysis of a mixture of metal precursors and a polymer solution. FeNi-CNFs demonstrated catalytic activity and stability that were better than that of 20 wt% Ir on Vulcan carbon black in oxidizing water to produce oxygen in an alkaline media. | 9 | Polychlorinated biphenyls and omega-3 fatty acid exposure from fish consumption,and thyroid cancer among New York anglers显示文摘Fish from the Great Lakes contain polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs)which have been shown to disrupt endocrine function and mimic thyroid hormones,but they also contain beneficial omega-3 fatty acids that may offer protection against endocrine cancers.The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Lake Ontario fish consumption and the estimated consumption of PCBs and omega-3 fatty acids on the risk of thyroid cancer in a group of sport fishermen.Anglers from the New York State Angler Cohort Study were followed for cancer incidence from 1991–2008.Twenty-seven cases of incident thyroid cancer and 108 controls were included in the analyses.Total estimated fish consumption,estimated omega-3 fatty acid consumption,and estimated PCB consumption from Lake Ontario fish were examined for an association with the incidence of thyroid cancer,while matching on sex,and controlling for age and smoking status.Results from logistic regression indicate no significant associations between fish consumption,short-term estimated omega-3 fatty acids,or estimated PCB consumption from Great Lakes fish and the development of thyroid cancer,but it was suggested that long-term omega-3 fatty acid from Great Lakes fish may be protective of the development of thyroid cancer.In conclusion,fish consumption,with the possible concomitant PCBs,from the Great Lakes does not appear to increase the risk of thyroid cancer in New York anglers.Further research is needed in order to separate the individual health effects of PCBs from omega-3 fatty acids contained within the fish. | Alyson Haslam Sara Wagner Robb Matthew R.Bonner William Lindblad Joey Allegra Ye Shen John E.Vena | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,3: | 2 |

| 16 | Joint association of physical activity/screen time and diet on CVD risk factors in 10-year-old children显示文摘The increasing prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity has been associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease(CVD).While several studies examined the effect of single behaviors such as physical activity(PA),sedentary behavior or diet on CVD risk,there is a lack of research on combined associations,specifically in children.Therefore,the purpose of this study was to examine the joint association of PA or screen time(ST)and diet on CVD risk factors in children.PA,STand diet were assessed via questionnaire in 210 fifth grade students(age:10.6±0.4 years).The healthy eating index(HEI)was subsequently calculated as indicator for diet quality.Height,weight,% body fat,and resting blood pressure were measured according to standard procedures and blood samples obtained via fingerprick were assayed for blood lipids.Total cholesterol HDL ratio(TC:HDL),mean arterial pressure(MAP),and % body fat were used as indicators of CVD risk.55% of children did not meet current PA recommendations on at least 5 days/week and 70% exceeded current recommendations for ST.Further,only 2.5% possessed a“good”diet(HEI>80).There was no significant association of PA or STand diet on CVD risk score.Neither TC:HDL,MAP,and % body fat nor the total CVD risk score was significantly correlated with diet,PA,or ST.Children in the high PA group,however,had significantly better diet scores.Despite the fact that self-reported PA,ST,or dietary intake were not directly related to CVD risk in this sample,higher activity levels were associated with a healthier diet and lower ST indicating an overall healthier lifestyle of this subgroup. | Clemens Drenowatz Joseph J.Carlson Karin A.Pfeiffer Joey C.Eisenmann | 2012 | Frontiers of Medicine2012,6,4: | 1 |
