1Platelet-rich plasma for muscle injuries: A systematic review of the basic science literature显示文摘BACKGROUND Platelet-rich plasma(PRP) is an increasingly used biologic adjunct for muscle injuries, as it is thought to expedite healing. Despite its widespread use, little is known regarding the mechanisms by which PRP produces its efficacious effects in some patients.AIM To clarify the effects of PRP on muscular pathologies at the cellular and tissue levels by evaluating the basic science literature.METHODS A systematic review of PubMed/MEDLINE and EMBASE databases was performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and MetaAnalyses(PRISMA) guidelines and checklist. Level III in vivo and in vitro studies examining PRP effects on muscles, myocytes and/or myoblasts were eligible for inclusion. Extracted data included PRP preparation methods and study results.RESULTS Twenty-three studies were included(15 in vivo, 6 in vitro, 2 in vitro/in vivo). Only one reported a complete PRP cytology(platelets, and red and white blood cell counts). Five in vitro studies reported increased cellular proliferation, four reported increased gene expression, and three reported increased cellular differentiation. Five in vivo studies reported increased gene expression, three reported superior muscle regeneration, and seven reported improved histological quality of muscular tissue.CONCLUSION The basic science literature on the use of PRP in muscle pathology demonstrates that PRP treatment confers several potentially beneficial effects on healing in comparison to controls. 19Evaluation of Ocimum basilicum L.with Different Concentrations of K^(+)as an Inhibitor of Pathogenic Bacterial Strains显示文摘The extraction of bioactive compounds has become one of the most interesting areas of modern chemistry.For therapeutic reasons,it´s important to obtain antimicrobial agents from natural origin.The objective of the present study was to determine the inhibitory effect of ethanolic extract of basil(Ocimum basilicum L.var.Red Rubin)subjected to different concentrations of potassium(K^(+))on the activity of three bacterial strains that are pathogens in humans.Susceptibility was evaluated by inhibition surface and these results were compared to two antibiotics:Gentamicin(GE)and Ciprofloxacin(CPF)for their efficacy against each bacterial strain.Analyzed variables presented significant difference(p≤0.05).According to the results,basil extract evaluated showed positive antibacterial activity against the three strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus on Mueller Hinton agar.It was observed highest inhibition areas of different diameters(15.3 mm,21.3 mm and 21.6 mm respectively)when the extract used was obtained from the plants with the highest concentration of potassium(13 mmol L-1).These values were even superior to the highest values showed on the treatments with the antibiotic gentamicin.Mercedes Georgina Ramírez-Aragón Victoria Jared Borroel-García Ramón Valenzuela-Soto Ricardo David Valdez-Cepeda Francisco Javier Wong-Corral JoséLuis García-Hernández 2021Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2021,90,2:0
20Extent of morbidity associated with schistosomiasis infection in Malawi: a review paper显示文摘Data on the extent of the burden due to schistosomiasis is sparse in most Sub-Saharan African countries.However,this data is crucial for triggering medical attention.A review of extent of morbidity and determinants associated with schistosomiasis in Malawi was therefore conducted to quantify the infection in order to concretise the need for medical intervention.A systematic and traditional search strategy was used to find literature for the review,whilst exclusion and inclusion criteria were used to identify appropriate articles.Logistic regression curves of epidemiological model Y=(a+bxc)/(1+bxc)and the recommendation that schistosomiasis prevalence can be used to estimate morbidity were employed to quantify morbidity at various infection stages.Morbidity was quantified as a direct proportion of the population and the respective national schistosomiasis prevalence.Findings showed that both S.mansoni and S.haematobium are present in Malawi with the latter highly prevalent(50%).Furthermore,out of the estimated population of 16,829 million,approximately 8.4 million have schistosomiasis,with about 4.4 million of these aged 18 years and below.The most frequent manifestation is Katayama syndrome,while ascites is the lowest,impacting about 3.0 million and 960 individuals,respectively.Localised studies on association of schistosomiasis infection to risk factors such as occupation,age and gender found odds ratio(OR)ranging from 1.29 to 5.37.Morbidity due to schistosomiasis is high in Malawi.It is therefore recommended that a more detailed study on the determinants of high schistosomiasis and re-evaluation of the current control measures be conducted if the current morbidity statistics are to be remarkably reduced.Austin H N Mtethiwa Gamba Nkwengulila Jared Bakuza Daniel Sikawa Abigail Kazembe 2015Infectious Diseases of Poverty2015,4,1:0
