Antidiabetic and in vitro antioxidant potential of Hybanthus enneaspermus(Linn) F.Muell in streptozotocin—induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate antidiabetic and antioxidant potential of Hybanthus enneaspermus in different models. Methods:The oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) and normoglycemic effect of alcoholic extract of Hybanthus enneaspermus(AHE) were evaluated at a dose of 125,250 and 500mg/kg p.o.while hypoglycemic activity and effect on body weight were tested at 250 and 500 mg/kg p.o.per day for 21 days in Streptozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic rats.Further, glucose uptake by hemidiaphram was also evaluated. The total polyphenolic and flavonoid were determined and their correlation with various antioxidant assays was also determined. Results:The results showed high level of phenolic content in AHE.AHE also exhibited higher total antioxidant capacity, good reducing power and a significant scavenger of reactive oxygen species like DPPH radical, nitric oxide, hydrogen peroxide and deoxyribose.Furthermore there was a significant increase in the body weight and decrease in the blood glucose level on treatment with the AHE.AHE increased glucose uptake on isolated rat hemi-diaphragm compared to control group. Conclusions:AHE reduce blood glucose level in STZ-induced diabetic model. It does not show significant effect in normoglycemic study but showes significant effect in OGT.AHE has significant antioxidant activity, which may be attributed to high phenolic content. | Patel DK Kumar R Prasad SK Sairam K Hemalatha S | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,4: | 22
A review on medicinal importance, pharmacological activity and bioanalytical aspects of beta-carboline alkaloid 'Harmine'显示文摘Harmine,a beta-carboline alkaloid,is widely distributed in the plants, marine creatures, insects, mammalians as well as in human tissues and body fluids.Harmine was originally isolated from seeds of Peganum harmal in 1847 having a core indole structure and a pyridine ring.Harmine has various types of pharmacological activities such as antimicrobial, antifungal, antitumor, cytotoxic, antiplasmodial, antioxidaant, antimutagenic, antigenotoxic and hallucinogenic properties. It acts on gamma-aminobutyric acid type A and monoamine oxidase A or B receptor, enhances insulin sensitivity and also produces vasorelaxant effect.Harmine prevents bone loss by suppressing osteoclastogenesis. The current review gives an overview on pharmacological activity and analytical techniques of harmine, which may be useful for researcheres to explore the hidden potential of harmine and and will also help in developing new drugs for the treatment of various diseases. | K Patel M Gadewar R Tripathi SK Prasad Dinesh Kumar Patel | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,8: | 17
MicroRNAs:a new ray of hope for diabetes mellitus显示文摘Diabetes mellitus has become one of the most common chronic diseases, thereby posing a major challenge to global health.Characterized by high levels of blood glucose(hyperglycemia),diabetes usually results from a loss of insulin-producing β-cells in the pancreas, leading to a deficiency of insulin(type 1 diabetes),or loss of insulin sensitivity(type 2 diabetes). Both types of diabetes have serious secondary complications, such as microvascular abnormalities, cardiovascular dysfunction, and kidney failure.Various complex factors, such as genetic and environmental factors, are associated with the pathophysiology of diabetes.Over the past two decades, the role of small,single-stranded noncoding microRNAs in various metabolic disorders, especially diabetes mellitus and its complications, has gained widespread attention in the scientific community.Discovered first as an endogenous regulator of development in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, these small RNAs post-transcriptionally suppress mRNA target expression. In this review,we discuss the potential roles of different microRNAs in diabetes and diabetes-related complications. | Munish Kumar Sayantan Nath Himanshu K Prasad G D Sharma Yong Li | 2012 | Protein & Cell2012,3,10: | 14
Assessment of heavy metal pollution from the sediment of Tupilipalem Coast, southeast coast of India显示文摘Sediment from twelve stations was sampled from the Tupilipalem Coast, southeast coast of India, and the presence of a set of heavy metals was established including iron(Fe), manganese(Mn), chromium(Cr),copper(Cu), nickel(Ni), lead(Pb), zinc(Zn) and cadmium(Cd). The heavy metals were assessed by factor analysis, the results of which showed positive and/or negative correlations among Fe, Mn, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb,Zn, and Cd. Factor analysis also indicated that heavy metals in the sediments of the study area have different natural and anthropogenic sources. Similarly, a sediment pollution assessment was done using the Geoaccumulation Index(Igeo), Enrichment Factor(EF), and Pollution Load Index(PLI). The Geoaccumulation Index indicated that the surface sediment of the Tupilipalem Coast was extremely contaminated with Fe, Mn, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn. The calculation of enrichment factors showed a significant enrichment with respect to Pb, Zn, and Cd and a moderate enrichment with Cr, Cu, and Ni. The falling trend of average contents' enrichment factors is Cd > Pb > Zn > Cu > Cr > Ni > Mn > Fe. The PLI values of the Cd show higher(> 1) values due to the influence of distinct external sources like agricultural runoff, industrial activities, and other anthropogenic inputs. Ninety two percent of heavy metals under study showed the highest concentrations at station TP-5 where the Buckingham Canal and other agricultural and aquacultural effluents connect with the Bay of Bengal. This location is the second inlet which is periodically closed and it seemed that these parts of the study area are heavily affected by anthropogenic pollution. | Sreenivasulu Ganugapenta Jayaraju Nadimikeri Sundara Raja Reddy Balam Chinnapolla Lakshmanna Ballari Rajasekhar Madiga Nirmala K Lakshmi Prasad Tella | 2018 | International Journal of Sediment Research2018,33,3: | 8
Transarterial chemoembolization for liver metastases from solid pseudopapillary epithelial neoplasm of pancreas: A case report显示文摘Solid pseudo-papillary epithelial neoplasm(SPEN) is a rare epithelial tumor of pancreas with a low malignant potential occurs most commonly in young females. We report a case of 40 years old woman presented withextensive liver metastasis from SPEN of pancreatic body for which she was operated four years ago. Due to the extensive nature of metastatic disease she was offered Transarterial chemoembolisation(TACE) using gemcitabine as chemotherapeutic agent. Short term follow up after a month of TACE with multiphase computed tomography showed > 90% resolution in the viable tumor with significant clinical improvement. TACE ensures targeted delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs in higher doses with least systemic toxicity and is more effective and safe than systemic chemotherapy. TACE with gemcitabine was found to be very effective in our patient with numerous liver metastasis. | TV Prasad KS Madhusudhan Deep N Srivastava Nihar R Dash Arun K Gupta | 2015 | World Journal of Radiology2015,7,3: | 5
Synthesis and evaluation of novel analogues of mangiferin as potent antipyretic显示文摘Objective:To screen different analogues of mangiferin pharmacologically for antipyretic activity. Methods:The naturally occurring xanthone glycoside mangiferin was isolated by column chromatography from the elhanolic extract of stem bark of Mangifera indica.Mangiferin was further converted to 5-(N-phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin.5-(N-p-chlorophenylamino methyleno) mangiferin,5-(N-2-methyl phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin.5-(N-p-methoxy phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin.5-(N,N-diphenylamino methyleno) mangiferin,5-(N-α-napthylamino methyleno) mangiferin and 5-(N-4-methyl phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin analogues. The synthesized compounds were further screened for antipyretic activity along with mangiferin at a dose level of 100 and 200 tng/kg.Mangiferin and its analogues were characterized by melting point and R_f value determination and through spectral technique like UV,IR,and NMR spectral analysis. Results:The antipyretic activity of mangiferin as well as all analogues was found to be more significant in at higher dose ie.200 mg/kg which was depicted thmugh a decrease in rectal temperature up to 3 h.Conclusions:The antipyretic activity of mangiferin and its analogues may be attributed to inhibition in synthesis of TNF-αand anti-oxidant activity associated with amelioration of inflammatory actions of cytokines. | Shashi Kant Singh Saurabh K Sinha SK Prasad R Kumar Bhawani S Bithu S Sadish Kumar P Singh | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,11: | 4
起作用的术语和手术后的管理途径适用于肝的外科: 受训练者观点显示文摘 Outcomes in hepatic resectional surgery(HRS) have improved as a result of advances in the understanding of hepatic anatomy, improved surgical techniques, and enhanced peri-operative management.Patients are generally cared for in specialist higher-level ward settings with multidisciplinary input during the initial post-operative period, however, greater acceptance and understanding of HRS has meant that care is transferred, usually after 24-48 h,to a standard ward environment.Surgical trainees will be presented with such patients either electively as part of a hepatobiliary firm or whilst covering the service on-call,and it is therefore important to acknowledge the key points in managing HRS patients.Understanding the applied anatomy of the liver is the key to determining the extent of resection to be undertaken.Increasingly, enhanced patient pathways exist in the post-operative setting requiring focus on the delivery of high quality analgesia, careful fluid balance, nutrition and thromboprophlaxis.Complications can occur including liver, renal and respiratory failure, hemorrhage, and sepsis, all of which require prompt recognition and management. We provide an overview of the relevant terminology applied to hepatic surgery,an approach to the post-operative management, and an aid to developing an awareness of complications so as to facilitate better confidence in this complex subgroup of general surgical patients. | Shahid G Farid K Rajendra Prasad Gareth Morris-Stiff | 2013 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2013,5,5: | 2
Assessment of the diagnostic performance and interobserver variability of endocytoscopy in Barrett's esophagus:A pilot ex-vivo study显示文摘AIM:To investigate a classification of endocytoscopy(ECS)images in Barrett’s esophagus(BE)and evaluate its diagnostic performance and interobserver variability.METHODS:ECS was applied to surveillance endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)specimens of BE ex-vivo.The mucosal surface of specimen was stained with 1%methylene blue and surveyed with a catheter-type endocytoscope. We selected still images that were most representative of the endoscopically suspect lesion and matched with the final histopathological diagnosis to accomplish accurate correlation. The diagnostic performance and inter-observer variability of the new classification scheme were assessed in a blinded fashion by physicians with expertise in both BE and ECS and inexperienced physicians with no prior exposure to ECS.RESULTS:Three staff physicians and 22 gastroenterology fellows classified eight randomly assigned unknown still ECS pictures(two images per each classification)into one of four histopathologic categories as follows:(1)BEC1-squamous epithelium;(2)BEC2-BE without dysplasia;(3)BEC3-BE with dysplasia;and(4)BEC4-esophageal adenocarcinoma(EAC)in BE.Accuracy of diagnosis in staff physicians and clinical fellows were,respectively,100%and 99.4%for BEC1,95.8%and83.0%for BEC2,91.7%and 83.0%for BEC3,and95.8%and 98.3%for BEC4.Interobserver agreement of the faculty physicians and fellows in classifying each category were 0.932 and 0.897,respectively.CONCLUSION:This is the first study to investigate classification system of ECS in BE.This ex-vivo pilot study demonstrated acceptable diagnostic accuracy and excellent interobserver agreement. | Yutaka Tomizawa Prasad G Iyer Louis M Wongkeesong Navtej S Buttar Lori S Lutzke Tsung-Teh Wu Kenneth K Wang | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,46: | 2
