1Indicators of prognosis after liver transplantation in Chinese hepatocellular carcinoma patients显示文摘AIM: To identify prognostic factors of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), who were treated by orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). METHODS: From January 2000 to October 2006, 165 patients with HCC underwent OLT. Various clinicopathological risk factors for actuarial and recurrence-free survival were identified using the Kaplan-Meier method with the log-rank test. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to identify independently predictive factors for actuarial and recurrence-free survival, which were used to propose new selection criteria. We compared the outcome of the subgroup patients meeting different criteria. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method with the log-rank test. RESULTS: The median follow-up was 13.0 mo (2.8-69.5 mo). Overall, 1-, 2-, 3-and 5-year actuarial survival was 73.3%, 45.6%, 35.4% and 32.1%, respectively. One-, 2-, 3-and 5-year overall recurrencefree survival was 67.0%, 44.3%, 34.5% and 34.5%, respectively. In univariate analysis, number of tumors, total tumor size, lobar distribution, differentiation, macrovascular invasion, microvascular invasion, capsulationof the tumor, and lymph node metastasis were found to be associated significantly with actuarial and tumor-free survival. By means of using the multivariate Cox proportional hazards model, total tumor size and macrovas-cular invasion were found to be independent predictors of actuarial and tumor-free survival. When the selection criteria were expanded into the proposed criteria, there was no significant difference in 1-, 2-, 3-and 5-year actuarial and tumor-free survival of the 49 patients who met the proposed criteria (97.6%, 82.8%, 82.8% and 82.8%, and 90.7%, 82.8%, 68.8% and 68.8%, respectively) compared with that of patients who met the Milan or University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) criteria. CONCLUSION: Macrovascular invasion and total tumor diameter are the strongest prognostic factors. 2Synthesis of Porous NiO Nanocrystals with Controllable Surface Area and Their Application as Supercapacitor Electrodes显示文摘We report a facile way to grow various porous NiO nanostructures including nanoslices,nanoplates,and nanocolumns,which show a structure-dependence in their specific charge capacitances.The formation of controllable porosity is due to the dehydration and re-crystallization of β-Ni(OH)_(2) nanoplates synthesized by a hydrothermal process.Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the decomposition temperature of the β-Ni(OH)_(2) nanostructures is related to their morphology.In electrochemical tests,the porous NiO nanostructures show stable cycling performance with retention of specific capacitance over 1000 cycles.Interestingly,the formation of nanocolumns by the stacking of β-Ni(OH)_(2) nanoslices/plates favors the creation of small pores in the NiO nanocrystals obtained after annealing,and the surface area is over five times larger than that of NiO nanoslices and nanoplates.Consequently,the specific capacitance of the porous NiO nanocolumns(390 F/g)is significantly higher than that of the nanoslices(176 F/g)or nanoplates(285 F/g)at a discharge current of 5 A/g.This approach provides a clear illustration of the process-structure-property relationship in nanocrystal synthesis and potentially offers strategies to enhance the performance of supercapacitor electrodes.Xiaojun Zhang Wenhui Shi Jixin Zhu Weiyun Zhao Jan Ma Subodh Mhaisalkar Tuti Lim Maria Yanhui Yang Hua Zhang Huey Hoon Hng Qingyu Yan 2010Nano Research2010,3,9:24
3Ten cities cross-sectional questionnaire survey of children asthma and other allergies in China显示文摘Asthma,rhinitis and eczema(allergic or non-allergic)have increased throughout the world during the last decades,especially among children.Changes in the indoor environment are suspected to be important causes.China has experienced a dramatic change in indoor environmental exposures during the past two decades.However,such changes and their associations with children’s asthma and other health aspects have not been thoroughly studied.China,Children,Homes,Health(CCHH),Phase I,was a cross-sectional questionnaire survey of 48219 children 1–8 years old in 10 Chinese cities during 2010–2012.The questionnaire includes the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood(ISAAC)core health questions and additional questions regarding housing,life habits and outdoor environment.In health analyses,children aged 3–6 years old were included.The prevalences of doctor diagnosed asthma varied from 1.7%to 9.8%(mean 6.8%),a large increase from 0.91%in 1999 and 1.50%in2000.The prevalence of wheeze,rhinitis and atopic eczema(last 12 months)varied from 13.9%to 23.7%,24.0%to 50.8%and4.8%to 15.8%,respectively.Taiyuan had the lowest prevalences of all illnesses and Shanghai the highest,except for wheezewhere the highest value was for Urumqi.We found(1)no obvious association between disease prevalences and ambient PM10concentrations and(2)higher prevalences of disease in humid climates with hot summers and cold winters,but with no centrally heated buildings.Associations between the diseases and economic status as indexed by Gross Domestic Product(GDP)requires further study.ZHANG YinPing LI BaiZhan HUANG Chen YANG Xu QIAN Hua DENG QiHong ZHAO ZhuoHui LI AnGui ZHAO JiaNing ZHANG Xin QU Fang HU Yu YANG Qin WANG Juan ZHANG Ming WANG Fang ZHENG XiaoHong LU Chan LIU ZhiJian SUN YueXia MO JinHan ZHAO YiLi LIU Wei WANG TingTing NORBCK Dan BORNEHAG Carl-Gustaf SUNDELL Jan 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:22
4Skeleton pruning as trade-off between skeleton simplicity and reconstruction error显示文摘Skeletons can be viewed as a compact shape representation in that each shape can be completely reconstructed from its skeleton.However,the usefulness of a skeletal representation is strongly limited by its instability.Skeletons suffer from contour noise in that small contour deformation may lead to large structural changes in the skeleton.A large number of skeleton computation and skeleton pruning approaches has been proposed to address this issue.Our approach differs fundamentally in the fact that we cast skeleton pruning as a trade-off between skeleton simplicity and shape reconstruction error.An ideal skeleton of a given shape should be the skeleton with a simplest possible structure that provides a best possible reconstruction of a given shape.To quantify this trade-off,we propose that the skeleton simplicity corresponds to model simplicity in the Bayesian framework,and the shape reconstruction accuracy is expressed as goodness of fit to the data.We also provide a simple algorithm to approximate the maximum of the Bayesian posterior probability which defines an order for iteratively removing the end branches to obtain the pruned skeleton.Presented experimental results obtained without any parameter tuning clearly demonstrate that the resulting skeletons are stable to boundary deformations and intra class shape variability.SHEN Wei BAI Xiang YANG XingWei LATECKI Longin Jan 2013Science China(Information Sciences)2013,56,4:11

6Short-term Celecoxib intervention is a safe and effective chemopreventive for gastric carcinogenesis based on a Mongolian gerbil model显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the optimal intervention point of a selective cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) inhibitor,Celecoxib,for inhibiting Helicobacter pylori(H pylori)-associated gastric carcinogenesis in Mongolian gerbils(MGs).METHODS:One hundred and twelve MGs were divided into six groups(A-F).One hundred gerbils were inoculated with H pylori(groups A-E).Twelve gerbils were inoculated with vehicle broth only(group F).After 4 wk,they were given N'-methyl-N' -nitro-N-nitroso-guanidine(MNNG)(50 μg/mL) in the drinking water for 20 wk.In groups B-E,the animals were given the stock Celecoxib(10 mg/kg per day) diet from the 21st,31st,21st and 41st week respectively.The periods of administering Celecoxib were 30,20,20,and 15 wk respectively.On the 51st week,the animals were sacrificed for histological examination.Local PCNA expression was examined by the immunohistochemistry method.The expression of COX-2 protein was assessed by Western Blot.Analysis used the χ2 test.The difference was regarded as signifi cant when P value was less than 0.05.RESULTS:Seventeen percent(17/100) of H pylori-infected MGs developed gastric cancer.All of these lesions were well-differentiated adenocarcinoma.The incidence rates of adenocarcinoma in groups A-F were 40%,0%,0%,20%,25%,and 0% respectively.The inflammatory scores were higher in group B than in other groups.There was no inflammatory response noted in group F.Celecoxib treatment resulted in a significant reduction in the proliferation of H pylori-infected mucosal cells(groups B,C and D)(P < 0.01).The expression of COX-2 protein was significantly attenuated in the groups which were Celecoxib-treated for more than 20 wk(groups B,C,D).The groups treated with Celecoxib had a significantly lower rate of advanced gastric cancer(34% vs 75%,P<0.001) There were no sudden deaths in any of the groups.CONCLUSION:Short-term treatment with Celecoxib has an anti-carcinogenic effect,and resulted in less severe inflammation and inhibited the invasive degree of gastric cancer.Chao-Hung Kuo Huang-Ming Hu Pei-Yun Tsai I-Chen Wu Sheau-Fang Yang Lin-Li Chang Jaw-Yuan Wang Chang-Ming Jan Wen-Ming Wang Deng-Chyang Wu 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,39:9

8Sick building syndrome among parents of preschool children in relation to home environment in Chongqing, China显示文摘The prevalence and risk factors of sick building syndrome(SBS)symptoms in domestic environments were studied by a questionnaire survey on the home environment.Parents of 5299 3–6 years old children from randomly selected kindergartens in Chongqing,China returned completed questionnaires between December 2010 and April 2011.The prevalence of parents’SBS symptoms(often(every week)compared with never)were:11.4%for general symptoms,7.1%for mucosal symptoms and 4.4%for skin symptoms.Multiple logistic regressions were applied controlling for gender and asthma/allergic rhinitis/eczema.Living near a main road or highway was a strong risk factor for general symptoms(adjusted odds ratio,aOR=2.16,P<0.001),skin symptoms(aOR=2.69,P<0.001),and mucosal symptoms(aOR=1.63,P<0.01).Redecoration was a risk factor for general symptoms(aOR=2.00,P<0.001),skin symptoms(aOR=1.66,P<0.01),and mucosal symptoms(aOR=1.66,P<0.05).New furniture was a risk factor for general symptoms(aOR=2.16,P<0.001)and skin symptoms(aOR=1.67,P<0.01).Dampness related problems(mould spot,damp stain,water damage and condensation)were all risk factors for SBS symptoms,as was the presence of cockroaches,rats,and mosquitoes/flies and use of incense.Protective factors include cleaning the child’s bedroom every day and frequently exposing bedding to sunshine.In conclusion,adults’SBS symptoms were related to factors of the home environment.WANG Juan LI BaiZhan YANG Qin WANG Han NORBACK Dan SUNDELL Jan 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:6
9Metamorphic P-T Path Differences between the Two UHP Terranes of Sulu Orogen, Eastern China: Petrologic Comparison between Eclogites from Donghai and Rongcheng显示文摘The Sulu Orogen constitutes the eastern part of the Sulu-Dabie Orogen formed by Triassic collision between the Sino-Korean and Yangtze plates. An HP Slice Ⅰ and two UHP slices Ⅱ and Ⅲ with contrasting subduction and exhumation histories within the Sulu Orogen were postulated. This study presents the metamorphic P-T paths of eclogites from the two UHP belts constructed by petrography, mineral chemistry and Perple_X P-T pseudosection modeling in the MnC(K)NFMASHO system. Eclogites from Slice Ⅲ mainly consist of omphacite, garnet and quartz, with minor rutile, ilmenite, amphibole and phengite. Eclogites from Slice Ⅱ show a porphyroblastic texture with epidote porphyroblasts and garnet, omphacite, phengite, quartz and rutile in matrix. Pseudosection modeling reveals that eclogites from Slice Ⅱ witness a peak metamorphism of eclogite-facies under conditions of 3.1–3.3 GPa and 660–690 ℃, and a retrograde cooling decompression process. The eclogites from Slice Ⅲ record a heating decompressive P-T path with a peak-P stage of 3.2 GPa and 840 ℃ and a peak-T stage of 2.4 GPa and 950 ℃, suggesting an apparent granulite-facies metamorphism overprint during exhumation. Both eclogites recorded clockwise P-T paths with peak P-T conditions suggesting a subduction beneath the Sino-Korean Plate to ~100–105 km depth. Combined with tectonic scenarios from previous studies, it is concluded that the two UHP crustal slices in the Sulu terrane have a similar geodynamic evolution, but the UHP rocks in Slice Ⅱ exhumed after the eclogitic peak-pressure conditions earlier than that of Slice Ⅲ. The existence of Slice Ⅱ diminished the buoyancy force on Slice Ⅲ, resulting in a granulite-facies overprint on Slice Ⅲ. 10Indoor environmental quality and the prevalence of childhood asthma and rhinitis in Wuhan area of China显示文摘Indoor environmental quality is suspected to be at least part of the cause of the increasing prevalence of childhood asthma and allergy.This study is part of the China,Children,Homes,Health(CCHH)project,which was designed to identify the risk factors indoors that are associated with prevalence of asthma and allergy among children in China.A cross-sectional questionnaire study was carried out in Wuhan in 2011.The questionnaire was a modified(to Chinese building characteristics)version of a questionnaire used first in Sweden.The parents of 2193 children,aged 1–8 years,replied,a response rate of 91.4%(2193/2400).Prevalences of asthma and allergic symptoms were calculated,and a Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression were used to identify risk factors.Prevalences of health outcomes are'wheezing last 12 months'18.5%,'cough at night last 12 months'15.4%,'doctor-diagnosed asthma'6.0%,'rhinitis last 12 months'48.7%,'doctor-diagnosed allergic rhinitis'17.5%.Factors associated with increased risk for asthma,allergy and related symptoms include living in an urban area,dampness(significant),use of gas for cooking,new dwelling decoration(paint and furniture obtained during pregnancy),keeping pets and breast feeding less than 3months.Factors associated with reduced risk as installing an exhaust fan in the bathroom.Home environmental factors are significantly associated with the prevalence of childhood asthma and rhinitis in Wuhan.Urbanization and dampness problems at home are significant risk factors for doctor diagnosed asthma and allergic rhinitis among children in Wuhan.ZHANG Ming ZHOU ESheng YE Xin SUN YueXia SUNDELL Jan YANG Xu 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:4
11Dampness in dwellings and its associations with asthma and allergies among children in Chongqing: A cross-sectional study显示文摘The city of Chongqing has high outdoor temperatures and humidity throughout the year and consequently a high risk of dampness and mold problems in dwellings.As part of the China,Children,Homes,Health(CCHH),associations between home characteristics and children’s asthma,allergies,and related symptoms were investigated in Chongqing,China.A cross-sectional questionnaire survey on home characteristics including dampness and symptoms of asthma and allergies in 5299 children was performed.Data for 4754 children(3–6 years)and their homes were analyzed.Results showed that 35.1%of homes were reported to have'damp bedding',14.3%'condensation on window panes(higher than 5 cm)',11.6%'mouldy odor',9.3%'water leakage',8.3%'damp stains'and 5.3%'visible mould'.Wheezing and rhinitis ever were reported for 27.0%and 51.1%children respectively,and rhinitis,wheezing,cough at night and eczema in the last 12 months were reported for 38.1%,20.5%,18.9%and 13.2%respectively.Doctor-diagnosed asthma was reported for 8.3%of children,and doctor-diagnosed rhinitis for 6.2%.Dampness in homes was generally strongly associated with asthma and allergies among Chongqing children.The strongest association was found between'visible mould'and doctor-diagnosed rhinitis,and the adjusted Odds Ratio(ORA)was 2.27(95%CI:1.48,3.49).'Damp bedding'was significantly associated with all asthma and allergic symptoms,but doctor-diagnosed asthma and rhinitis.The behavior of'putting bedding to sunshine'could effectively reduce the prevalence of asthma and allergic symptoms,and the risk of bedding affected with damp was reduced significantly when bedding was put to sunshine frequently.WANG Han LI BaiZhan YANG Qin YU Wei WANG Juan LIU YiLong OU YangJin SUNDELL Jan 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:4
12Effects of home environment and lifestyles on prevalence of atopic eczema among children in Wuhan area of China显示文摘Atopic eczema is a common health problem in children.The prevalence has increased in the past decades.Besides a genetic predisposition,lifestyle factors,dietary habits and indoor environments are thought to be related to its high prevalence.A cross-sectional questionnaire study was carried out in 2011 in the Wuhan area to study associations between home environments and children’s health.The questionnaires were replied to by parents of 2193 children 1 8 years old and the response rate was91.4%(2193/2400).The results show:(1)The prevalence of'eczema symptom ever that lasted for 6 months'was 23.2%;'eczema symptom in the last 12 months'7.4%and'awake at night due to itchy rash'3.4%.(2)Risk factors:Closer to business area(AOR 1.4),moisture related problems(AOR 1.3 2.2),moldy and stuffy odor perception(AOR 1.5),mice observed(AOR 1.8),pet keeping(AOR 1.3),exposure to environmental tobacco smoke(AOR 1.3)and incense(AOR 1.8)were significant risk factors for atopic eczema symptoms ever.Living in an apartment,compared to single family house,was related to more eczema symptom in the last 12 months.Damp clothing/bed sheets and perception of stuffy odor were risk factors for both'eczema symptom in the last 12 months'and'awake due to itchy rash(severe eczema)'.The odds ratio of mice observed for severe eczema was 3.1(95%CI:1.4 6.7).It suggests that urbanization,life style and dampness problems at home were significant risk factors for eczema symptoms among children in Wuhan,China.ZHANG Ming WU Yang YUAN Ye ZHOU ESheng SUNDELL Jan SUN YueXia YANG Xu 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:3

15Multi-physics analysis and optimisation of high-speed train pantograph-catenary systems allowing for velocity skin effect显示文摘A pantograph-catenary system (PCS) - an essential component to supply a high-speed train (HST) - faces a variety of new challenges due to the continuously increasing train speeds. The HST traction system receives power via an electrical contact between the pantograph strip and the high-voltage contact wire. This electrical contact is subject to serious mechanical shocks and significant electrochemical corrosion, making the modelling of the dynamic processes complicated, especially under high-speed and heavy-load conditions. The damage to the PCS - which is particularly noticeable at the edges of the pantograph strip - may become severe as the speed of the train rises. Moreover, as the speed increases, the distribution of the electrical current in the strip becomes uneven due to the velocity skin effect (VSE). To assess the impact of the VSE on the performance of PCSs, a multi-physics model has been created and is reported in this study. The model has been validated through experiments and the main aspects of its functionality - such as the VSE, friction, and air convection - have been identified and analysed at different speeds. The impact of speed on the traction current and the behaviour of thermal sources have been explored. With the increasing speed, the phenomenon of current clustering at the trailing edge of the strip becomes quite dramatic, resulting in a thermal surge in the region of the strip with high current density. To mitigate the negative impact caused by VSE in the PCSs, an improved kriging optimisation methodology has been utilised to optimise the parameters of the PCS. Timing jitter compensation is one of the problems people concern. Because of the flaws of median method, PDF deconvolution method and synthetic method, we put forward a new method for timing jitter compensation, which is called advanced median method. The theory of the advanced median method based on probability and statistics is analyzed, and the process of the advanced median method is summarized in this paper.
