1Evaluation of potential landslide damming: Case study of Urni landslide,Kinnaur, Satluj valley, India显示文摘This work aims to understand the process of potential landslide damming using slope failure mechanism,dam dimension and dam stability evaluation. The Urni landslide, situated on the right bank of the Satluj River, Himachal Pradesh(India) is taken as the case study. The Urni landslide has evolved into a complex landslide in the last two decade(2000-2016) and has dammed the Satluj River partially since year 2013,damaging ~200 m stretch of the National Highway(NH-05). The crown of the landslide exists at an altitude of ~2180-2190 m above msl, close to the Urni village that has a human population of about 500.The high resolution imagery shows ~50 m long landslide scarp and ~100 m long transverse cracks in the detached mass that implies potential for further slope failure movement. Further analysis shows that the landslide has attained an areal increase of 103,900 ± 1142 m^2 during year 2004-2016. About 86% of this areal increase occurred since year 2013. Abrupt increase in the annual mean rainfall is also observed since the year 2013. The extreme rainfall in the June, 2013; 11 June(~100 mm) and 16 June(~115 mm),are considered to be responsible for the slope failure in the Urni landslide that has partially dammed the river. The finite element modelling(FEM) based slope stability analysis revealed the shear strain in the order of 0.0-0.16 with 0.0-0.6 m total displacement in the detachment zone. Further, kinematic analysis indicated planar and wedge failure condition in the jointed rockmass. The debris flow runout simulation of the detached mass in the landslide showed a velocity of ~25 m/s with a flow height of ~15 m while it(debris flow) reaches the valley floor. 2Evaluation of potential surface instability using finite element method in Kharsali Village,Yamuna Valley,Northwest Himalaya显示文摘Kharsali village, located in the Northwest Himalaya near the confluence of the Yamuna River and Unta Gad, is situated on a thick(>150 m) paleolandslide deposit. The village is continuously being eroded at its base by the two rivers. Cracks are noted in most houses while the ancient Shani Temple lying to the south of the village has tilted ~5° towards the northeast. Three slope sections(S-1, S-2, S-3) were modelled and analysed to determine the displacement and shear strain patterns of the slopes. Based on surface failure conditions, potential slope instability of the Kharsali village was evaluated from 2D Finite Element Method(FEM) using Shear Strain Reduction(SSR) analysis in the Phase2 software. Results indicate a critical Stress Reduction Factor(SRF) of 1.5 for the southern edge of the village(S-1) housing the Shani Temple. The development of failure surfaces at its lower portion signifies the propagating, progressive nature of the slope. The S-2 slope section is most vulnerable to slope failure, with a critical SRF of 1.08. This has been inferred by the formation of failure surfaces with displacements of 0.05-0.08 m. The S-3 section in the northern part of the Kharsali shows highest critical SRF of 2.76. The un-metalled road section in the north of the village near S-3 hasdeveloped a failure surface with displacement of 0.003-0.004 m, and a zone of subsidence. 4Functional traits shape size-dependent growth and mortality rates of dry forest tree species显示文摘Aims Functional traits have emerged as an important tool to evaluate plant performance.However,the environmental conditions and ecological pressures that plants face change with their size,and the relationship between traits and plant performance should therefore be size-dependent,which has rarely been tested.Methods Here,we evaluated over a broad range of tree sizes the interspe-cific relationship between tree growth and mortality and eight func-tional stem,leaf and seed traits.We did so across 59 tree species in Brazilian dry forests and evaluated whether the relationships found for wet forest types in the literature also hold for dry forests,where water rather than light might limit tree performance.Important Findings We indeed found a strong size-dependent relationship between demographic rates and functional traits.At small sizes,when trees are in the shaded understory,species with functional trait values that enhance light capture or shade tolerance(i.e.higher maximum adult stature,taller heights,wider crowns,higher seed mass)have higher growth and/or lower mortality rates(MR).This relationship disappears at larger sizes when trees attain better light conditions in the canopy.Drought adaptations play only a role at larger tree sizes;once trees are in the dry and exposed canopy,species with higher wood density(an indicator of cavitation resistance)have lower MRs.Our study shows that both drought and shade adaptations are important in this dry forest,and that the relationships between func-tional traits and plant performance changes with plant size.Plant size should therefore explicitly be included as an axis of variation in functional analyses,to better understand the relationship between functional traits and demographic rates.Jamir A.Prado-Junior Ivan Schiavini Vagner S.Vale Diego Raymundo Sergio F.Lopes Lourens Poorter 2017Journal of Plant Ecology2017,10,6:1

14Water availability drives gradients of tree diversity,structure and functional traits in the Atlantic-Cerrado-Caatinga transition,Brazil显示文摘Aims Climate and soil are among the most important factors determin-ing variation in tree communities,but their effects have not been thoroughly elucidated to date for many vegetation features.In this study,we evaluate how climate and soil gradients affect gradients of vegetation composition,species diversity and dominance,structure and functional traits(seed mass and wood density)using over 327000 trees in 158 sites distributed along environmental gradients in the transitions among the Atlantic forest,Cerrado and Caatinga in Minas Gerais State(MG),Brazil(nearly 600000 km2).Methods Gradients in species,genus and family abundance in addition to basal area,stem density,species diversity(Fisher’s alpha),domin-ance percentage,seed mass and wood density were correlated using multiple regressions with environmental variables,as summarized in four principal component analysis axes(two climatic-precipi-tation seasonality and temperature range-and two edaphic-soil fertility and soil moisture).Additionally,ordinary kriging maps were used to better illustrate the gradients.Important Findings Multiple regression models indicate that all variables but domin-ance percentage were affected by one or more of the environmental gradients,but the average R2 was low(26.25%).Kriging maps rein-forced the patterns observed in the regression models.Precipitation seasonality and soil moisture gradients were the most important gra-dients affecting vegetation features.This finding suggests that water availability is an important determinant of vegetation features in these vegetation transitions.Marcela de Castro Nunes Santos Terra Rubens Manoel dos Santos Jamir Afonso do Prado Júnior José Marcio de Mello José Roberto Soares Scolforo Marco Aurélio Leite Fontes Ivan Schiavini Aliny Aparecida dos Reis Inacio Thomaz Bueno Luiz Fernando Silva Magnago Hans ter Steege 2018Journal of Plant Ecology2018,11,6:1
15Nigella sativa oil alleviates doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy and neurobehavioral changes in mice:In vivo and in-silico study显示文摘Objective:To investigate the effect of Nigella sativa oil on cardiomyopathy and neurobehavioral changes induced by doxorubicin in mice.Methods:Swiss strain of albino female mice were divided into 6 groups of 5 animals in each:GroupⅠ(control group),groupⅡ(doxorubicin,10 mg/kg,i.v.),groupⅢ,Ⅳ,andⅤ(Nigella sativa oil;1.5,3,and 6 mL/kg,respectively),groupⅥ(Nigella sativa oil per se;6 mL/kg,p.o.).The duration of treatment was 15 d(10 days’pre-treatment and 5 days’post-treatment)and doxorubicin was administered on day 11th of the treatment schedule.Following Nigella sativa oil treatment,neurobehavioral tests,cardiac hypertrophy tests,and biochemical tests in serum and tissues were performed.Neurological tests included assessment of anxiety-like behavior in the elevated plus maze,spontaneous alternation behavior in the cross maze,and depression-like behavior in modified forced swim tests.Biochemical tests included serum lactate dehydrogenase and creatinine kinase-MB,malondialdehyde and reduced glutathione in tissues.Lastly,molecular docking was used to estimate the affinity of the phytoconstituents of Nigella sativa oil with histone deacetylases.Results:Nigella sativa oil treatment significantly(P<0.001)restored doxorubicin-induced neurobehavioral changes,decreased lactate dehydrogenase and creatinine kinase-MB in the plasma,malondialdehyde contents in tissues,and increased reduced glutathione level.Besides,no significant alteration was observed in Nigella sativa oil per se group as compared to the control.Molecular docking showed that Nigella sativa oil components had appreciable binding affinitiy with the protein cavities of HDAC1 and HDAC6.Conclusions:The result shows that Nigella sativa oil exerts anxiolytic,antidepressant,and memory-enhancing effects in addition to cardioprotective effect against doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy in mice.The modulatory effect of Nigella sativa oil on oxidative stress could contribute to the cardioprotective effect and associated neurobehavioral changes in mice.Md Jamir Anwar Sattam Khulaif Alenezi Faizul Azam Danish Mahmood Faisal Imam Khalid Saad Alharbi 2022Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2022,12,7:0
16General-motors diet: A quick fix for steatotic live liver donors显示文摘Background and aims:GM(General-Motors)diet is a low-calorie 7-day diet plan using complex carbohydrates used for quick weight loss.Dietary optimisation is known to decrease steatosis and improve outcomes in liver donors.We evaluated the efficacy and feasibility of using GM diet in steatotic live liver donors(LLD).Methods:LLDs who either had BMI>30 kg/m^(2),Computerised tomography liver attenuation index(CT-LAI)<0 HU,Magnetic resonance(MR)fat-fraction of>10%were started on GM diet for 1 week.Records of these LLDs and their recipients were retrieved retrospectively and analysed.Weight,liver function tests(LFT),MR fat-frac-tion,CT-LAI,hospital-stay and complications were analysed in LLDs while early graft dysfunction(EGD)and complications were assessed in recipients.Results:A total of 51 LLDs with mean age of 34.6?9.5 years with baseline mean weight of 80.6±10.8 kg and BMI of 29.1±2.78 kg/m^(2) were started on GM diet.After a week of following the GM diet,there was an average weight loss of 3.46±2.1 kg,a decrease in fat-fraction by 3.8%±2.7,and an improvement in CT-LAI by 6.7?3.7 HU.All patients could successfully undergo donor hepatectomy with an average postoperative ICU stay of 2.86±0.8 days and hospital stay of 6.82?0.81 days.No donor had steatosis>10% on intraoperative Tru-cut biopsy and their post-operative outcomes were similar to normal liver donors.There were intra-abdominal collections in 2 donors requiring drainage and one required re-exploration for intestinal obstruction.There was EGD in 8 recipients(15.6%)and mortality in 1(1.9%)recipients.Conclusion:GM diet is safe and effective regimen to reduce steatosis and increase healthy LLD pool without compromising donor or recipient safety.Anish Gupta Abhideep Chaudhary Gaurav Sood Niteen Kumar Imtiakum Jamir Aditya Shriya Vipin Pal Singh Rekha Subramaniyam Hitesh Soni Milind Mandwar 2023iLIVER2023,2,3:0
17Impact of Living Donor Liver Transplantation on COVID-19 Clinical Outcomes from a Quaternary Care Centre in Delhi显示文摘Background and Aims:The anticipated fear of serious out-comes in coronavirus infected liver transplant recipients led to disruption of transplant services globally.The aim of our study was to analyze COVID-19 severity in transplant recipients and to compare the difference of COVID-19 clinical outcomes in early(<1 year)vs.late(>1 year)post-transplant period.Methods:41 post-living donor liver transplant recipients with COVID-19 infection were studied retrospectively from 1st April 2020 to 28th February 2021.Results:The median age was 49.00 years with a male preponderance(80.49%).Fif-teen patients had infection within 1 year of transplant and 26 were infected after 1 year of transplant.The overall median interval between transplantation and COVID-19 diagnosis was 816.00 days.Fever and malaise were the common presenting symptoms.The most common associated comorbidities were diabetes mellitus(65.85%)and hypertension(46.34%).The severity of illness was mild in 28(68.29%),moderate in 4(9.76%),severe in 6(14.63%)and critical in 3(7.32%).To identify associated risk factors,we divided our patients into less severe and more severe groups.Except for lymphopenia,there was no worsening of total bilirubin,transaminases,al-kaline phosphatase,and gamma-glutamyl transferase in the more severe group.Eight(19.51%)patients required inten-sive care unit admission and three(7.32%)died,while none suffered graft rejection.In recipients with early vs.late post-transplant COVID-19 infection,there were similar outcomes in terms of severity of COVID-19 illness,intensive care unit care need,requirement of respiratory support,and death.Conclusion:Living donor liver transplantation can be per-formed during the COVID-19 pandemic without the fear of poor recipient outcome in cases of unfortunate contraction of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2.Imtiakum Jamir Niteen Kumar Gaurav Sood Ashish George Pankaj Lohia Samba Siva Rao Pasupuleti Amrish Sahney Manav Wadhawan Ajay Kumar Abhideep Chaudhary 2022Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,4:0
18Level of stress among nurses and their adopted coping strategies显示文摘Objectives:This study was aimed at identifying the nurse’s level of stress and the coping mechanism adopted by them.Materials and Methods:A descriptive study was done to assess the level of stress and the coping strategies adopted by the nurses in a secondary hospital in North East India,Nagaland.A total enumerative sampling technique was used to select 94 samples for the study.The Nursing stress scale(NSS)by Gray-Toft and Anderson 1981 was used to assess stress,and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire was used.Results:Of 94 samples,68(72.34%)had a mild level of stress,25(26.59%)had a moderate level of stress,and only 1(0.06%)had a severe level of stress.Thirty-one(32.97%)used minimal coping strategies,and 63(67.02%)used moderate coping strategies.There was no significant association between the stress level and selected demographic variables such as age,marital status,and years of experience(all P>0.05).A significant association was found between the stresses of nurses and qualification of nurses(χ2=4.10,P=0.04).Conclusion:The study reveals that most nurses had mild levels of stress.Most nurses use moderate coping strategies to relieve their stressors at work.Thus,there is a need to emphasize the importance of using effective coping strategies for nurses to alleviate their stresses and anxiety in their workplace and even in their personal lives.Alijungla JAMIR Angouziia Lily PIKU Boli Vihoyi ZHIMOMI Christie KOYU Diana CHOREI Deimaia Emi LYNGDOH Bendangmenla AO 2023Journal of Integrative Nursing2023,5,3:0
