1Global leaf nitrogen and phosphorus stoichiometry and their scaling exponent显示文摘Leaf nitrogen(N) and phosphorus(P) concentrations constrain photosynthetic and metabolic processes,growth and the productivity of plants. Their stoichiometry and scaling relationships regulate the allocation of N and P from subcellular to organism, and even ecosystem levels, and are crucial to the modelling of plant growth and nutrient cycles in terrestrial ecosystems. Prior work has revealed a general biogeographic pattern of leaf N and P stoichiometric relationships and shown that leaf N scales roughly as two-thirds the power of P. However, determining whether and how leaf N and P stoichiometries, especially their scaling exponents, change with functional groups and environmental conditions requires further verification. In this study, we compiled a global data set and documented the global leaf N and P concentrations and the N:P ratios by functional group, climate zone and continent. The global overall mean leaf N and P concentrations were 18.9 mg g^(-1) and 1.2 mg g^(-1), respectively, with significantly higher concentrations in herbaceous than woody plants(21.72 mg g^(-1) vs. 18.22 mg g^(-1) for N; and 1.64 mg g^(-1) vs. 1.10 mg g^(-1) for P). Both leaf N and P showed higher concentrations at high latitudes than low latitudes. Among six continents, Europe had the highest N and P concentrations(20.79 and 1.54 mg g^(-1)) and Oceania had the smallest values(10.01 and 0.46 mg g^(-1)). These numerical values may be used as a basis for the comparison of other individual studies. Further, we found that the scaling exponent varied significantly across different functional groups,latitudinal zones, ecoregions and sites. The exponents of herbaceous and woody plants were 0.659 and0.705, respectively, with significant latitudinal patterns decreasing from tropical to temperate to boreal zones. 10Reviewing the Safe Shipping of Lithium-Ion and Sodium-Ion Cells:A Materials Chemistry Perspective显示文摘High energy density lithium-ion(Li-ion)batteries are commonly used nowadays.Three decades’worth of intense research has led to a good understanding on several aspects of such batteries.But,the issue of their safe storage and transportation is still not widely understood from a materials chemistry perspective.Current international regulations require Li-ion cells to be shipped at 30%SOC(State of Charge)or lower.In this article,the reasons behind this requirement for shipping Li-ion batteries are firstly reviewed and then compared with those of the analogous and recently commercialized sodium-ion(Na-ion)batteries.For such alkali-ion batteries,the safest state from their active materials viewpoint is at 0V or zero energy,and this should be their ideal state for storage/shipping.However,a“fully discharged”Li-ion cell used most commonly,composed of graphitebased anode on copper current collector,is not actually at 0V at its rated 0%SOC,contrary to what one might expect—the detailed mechanism behind the reason for this,namely,copper dissolution,and how it negatively affects cycling performance and cell safety,will be summarized herein.It will be shown that Na-ion cells,capable of using a lighter and cheaper aluminum current collector on the anode,can actually be safely discharged to 0V(true 0%SOC)and beyond,even to reverse polarity(negative voltages).It is anticipated that this article spurs further research on the 0V capability of Na-ion systems,with some suggestions for future studies provided.Ashish Rudola Christopher J.Wright Jerry Barker 2021Energy Material Advances2021,,1:1

17前瞻性城市儿童出生队列研究--交通源黑碳暴露与注意力之间的相关性显示文摘[背景]环境空气污染可能对儿童具有神经毒性作用。但目前尚缺乏交通源空气污染与注意力之间相关性的研究数据。[目的]在一项位于马萨诸塞州波士顿地区的出生队列研究中,研究黑碳(BC,一种交通颗粒标志物)与174名7-14岁儿童注意力测量结果之间的相关性。[方法]根据儿童生活的住所,采用经验证的空间时间土地利用回归模型估计BC水平。采用Conners连续作业测试(CPT)测量儿童的遗漏错误、执行错误和命中反应时间(HRT),分数越高表示错误越多或反应时间越长。使用多变量调整线性回归分析检测BC与各注意力结果之间相关性。[结果]队列中的儿童主要为西班牙裔(56%)和高加索裔(41%),53%为男童。以儿童的智商(IQ)、年龄、性别、血铅水平、母亲的教育程度、产前和产后烟草烟雾暴露以及社区水平的社会压力进行调整后发现,较高水平BC与执行错误增加及HRT较长之间存在正相关。值得注意的是,相对于中间的两个四分位数范围,在最高BC四分位数范围中这一相关性较弱,尽管仍是正性的。性别分层分析显示,在男童中BC-9执行错误和HRT两者均呈统计学显著相关,但在女童中BC与任何CPT结果均无显著相关性。[结论]在这一城市儿童人群中,BC暴露与更多的过失错误和较长的反应时间之间存在相关性。总体而言,这些相关性在男童中比女童中更为显著。Yueh-Hsiu Mathilda Chiu David C.Bellinger Brent A.Coull Shawn Anderson Rachel Barber Robert O.Wright Rosalind J.Wright 王晓宇 张伊人 汪源 金泰廙 2014环境与职业医学2014,31,3:0
18Mechanical environment for in vitro cartilage tissue engineering assisted by in silico models显示文摘Mechanobiological study of chondrogenic cells and multipotent stem cells for articular cartilage tissue engineering(CTE)has been widely explored.The mechanical stimulation in terms of wall shear stress,hydrostatic pressure and mechanical strain has been applied in CTE in vitro.It has been found that the mechanical stimulation at a certain range can accelerate the chondrogenesis and articular cartilage tissue regeneration.This review explicitly focuses on the study of the influence of the mechanical environment on proliferation and extracellular matrix production of chondrocytes in vitro for CTE.The multidisciplinary approaches used in previous studies and the need for in silico methods to be used in parallel with in vitro methods are also discussed.The information from this review is expected to direct facial CTE research,in which mechanobiology has not been widely explored yet.Rob Jess Tao Ling Yi Xiong Chris J.Wright Feihu Zhao 2023Biomaterials Translational2023,4,1:0

20A REDUCED ORDER SCHWARZ METHOD FOR NONLINEAR MULTISCALE ELLIPTIC EQUATIONS BASED ON TWO-LAYER NEURAL NETWORKS显示文摘Neural networks are powerful tools for approximating high dimensional data that have been used in many contexts,including solution of partial differential equations(PDEs).We describe a solver for multiscale fully nonlinear elliptic equations that makes use of domain decomposition,an accelerated Schwarz framework,and two-layer neural networks to approximate the boundary-to-boundarymap for the subdomains,which is the key step in the Schwarz procedure.Conventionally,the boundary-to-boundary map requires solution of boundary-value elliptic problems on each subdomain.By leveraging the compressibility of multiscale problems,our approach trains the neural network offline to serve as a surrogate for the usual implementation of the boundary-to-boundary map.Our method is applied to a multiscale semilinear elliptic equation and a multiscale p-Laplace equation.In both cases we demonstrate significant improvement in efficiency as well as good accuracy and generalization performance.Shi Chen Zhiyan Ding Qin Li Stephen J.Wright 2024Journal of Computational Mathematics2024,42,2:0
