| 7 | Multi-Institutional US Experience of the Occlutech AFR Device in Congenital and Acquired Heart Disease显示文摘Objectives:To detail the US multi-institutional experience with the Occlutech©(Occlutech International AB,Helsingborg,Sweden)atrial flow regulator(AFR)in children and adults with acquired or congenital heart disease.Background:The creation of a long-term atrial communication is desirable in several cardiovascular disease phenotypes,most notably pulmonary arterial hypertension,disorders of increased left ventricular filling and increased cavopulmonary pressures in patients with a Fontan type circulation.Methods:Patients were identified for inclusion from the AFR device manufacturer database.Data was collected using a RedCap database following IRB approval.8 weeks of follow up data was sought for each patient based on available data.Data was analyzed and summarized using SPSS.Results:We report the experience of 6 US centers in the implantation of AFR devices in 15 patients,across a wide age range,with different disease phenotypes and a variety of indications.Implantation was technically successful in all patients and improvement was noted in both clinical and hemodynamic parameters.There were no immediate or intermediate term complications reported.3 patients died remote from implantation.Their deaths were not felt to be related to the AFR device or related procedural complications.Conclusion:Compassionate use of the AFR device in children and adults with congenital&acquired heart disease is technically feasible and produces beneficial short term hemodynamic and symptomatic improvement.Widespread uptake of this technique and treatment at specialist centers has the potential to provide significant benefits to a variety of complex patients with currently limited treatment options and indeterminate prognosis. | Barry O’Callaghan Jenny Zablah Joseph Vettukattil Daniel Levi Morris Salem Allison Cabalka Jason Anderson Makram Ebeid Ryan Alexy Gareth J.Morgan | 2022 | Congenital Heart Disease2022,17,1: | 1 |
| 8 | Financial literacy,behavioral traits,and ePayment adoption and usage in Japan显示文摘This study investigates how financial literacy and behavioral traits affect the adoption of electronic payment(ePayment)services in Japan.We construct a financial literacy index using a representative sample of 25,000 individuals from the Bank of Japan’s 2019 Financial Literacy Survey.We then analyze the relationship between this index and the extensive and intensive usage of two types of payment services:electronic money(e-money)and mobile payment apps.Using an instrumental variable approach,we find that higher financial literacy is positively associated with a higher likelihood of adopting ePayment services.The empirical results suggest that individuals with higher financial literacy use payment services more frequently.We also find that risk-averse people are less likely to adopt and use ePayment services,whereas people with herd behavior tend to adopt and use ePayment services more.Our empirical results also suggest that the effects of financial literacy on the adoption and use of ePayment differ among people with different behavioral traits. | Trinh Quang Long Peter J.Morgan Naoyuki Yoshino | 2023 | Financial Innovation2023,9,1: | 0 |

| 10 | Cold adaptation does not alter ATP homeostasis during cold exposure in Drosophila melanogaster显示文摘In insects and other ectotherms,cold temperatures cause a coma resulting from loss of neuromuscular function,during which ionic and metabolic homeostasis are progressively lost.Cold adaptation improves homeostasis during cold exposure,but the ultimate targets of selection are still an open question.Cold acclimation and adaptation remodels mitochondrial metabolism in insects,suggesting that aerobic energy production during cold exposure could be a target of selection.Here,we test the hypothesis that cold adaptation improves the ability to maintain rates of aerobic energy production during cold exposure by using^(31)P NMR on live flies.Using lines of Drosophila melanogaster artificially selected for fast and slow recovery from a cold coma,we show that cold exposure does not lower ATP levels and that cold adaptation does not alter aerobic ATP production during cold exposure.Cold-hardy and cold-susceptible lines both experienced a brief transition to anaerobic metabolism during cooling,but this was rapidly reversed during cold exposure,suggesting that oxidative phosphorylation was sufficient to meet energy demands below the critical thermal minimum,even in cold-susceptible flies.We thus reject the hypothesis that performance under mild low temperatures is set by aerobic ATP supply limitations in D.melanogaster,excluding oxygen and capacity limitation as a weak link in energy supply.This work suggests that the modulations to mitochondrial metabolism resulting from cold acclimation or adaptation may arise from selection on a biosynthetic product(s)of those pathways rather than selection on ATP supply during cold exposure. | Caroline M.WILLIAMS James R.ROCCA Arthur S.EDISON David B.ALLISON Theodore J.MORGAN Daniel A.HAHN | 2018 | Integrative Zoology2018,13,4: | 0 |

| 12 | Linking science and decision making to promote an ecology for the city:practices and opportunities显示文摘To promote urban sustainability and resilience,there is an increasing demand for actionable science that links science and decision making based on social-ecological knowledge.Approaches,frameworks,and practices for such actionable science are needed and have only begun to emerge.We propose that approaches based on the co-design and co-production of knowledge can play an essential role to meet this demand.Although the antecedents for approaches to the co-design and co-production of knowledge are decades old,the integration of science and practice to advance urban sustainability and resilience that we present is different in several ways.These differences include the disciplines needed,diversity and number of actors involved,and the technological infrastructures that facilitate local-to global connections.In this article,we discuss how the new requirements and possibilities for co-design,co-production,and practical use of social-ecological research can be used as an ecology for the city to promote urban sustainability and resilience.While new technologies are part of the solution,traditional approaches also remain important.Using our urban experiences with long-term,place-based research from several U.S.Long-Term Ecological Research sites and U.S.Department of Agriculture,Forest Service Urban Field Stations,we describe a dynamic framework for linking research with decisions.We posit that this framework,coupled with a user-defined,theory-based approach to science,is instrumental to advance both practice and science.Ultimately,cities are ideal places for integrating basic science and decision making,facilitating flows of information through networks,and developing sustainable and resilient solutions and futures. | J.Morgan Grove Daniel L.Childers Michael Galvin Sarah Hines Tischa Muñoz-Erickson Erika S.Svendsen | 2016 | Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2016,2,9: | 0 |
| 13 | Use of MRI, metabolomic, and genomic biomarkers to identify mechanisms of chemoresistance in glioma显示文摘Gliomas are the most common form of central nervous system tumor. The most prevalent form, glioblastoma multiforme, is also the most deadly with mean survival times that are less than 15 months. Therapies are severely limited by the ability of these tumors to develop resistance to both radiation and chemotherapy. Thus, new tools are needed to identify and monitor chemoresistance before and after the initiation of therapy and to maximize the initial treatment plan by identifying patterns of chemoresistance prior to the start of therapy. Here we show how magnetic resonance imaging, particularly sodium imaging, metabolomics, and genomics have all emerged as potential approaches toward the identification of biomarkers of chemoresistance.
