| 1 | Present indications and techniques of percutaneous nephrolithotomy:What the future holds?显示文摘The purpose of the review was to present the latest updates on percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL)procedure in terms of indications and evolving techniques,and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of each modality.The data for this review were collected after a thorough PubMed search in core clinical journals in English language.The key words included“PCNL”and“PNL”in combination with“indications”,“techniques”,“review”and“miniaturized PCNL”.Publications relevant to the subject were retrieved and critically reviewed.Current European and American Urology Association Nephrolithiasis Guidelines were included as well.The indications for standard PCNL have been changed through the past decade.Despite evolution of the procedure,innovations and the development of new technical approaches,the indications for miniaturized PCNL have not been standardized yet.There is a need for well-constructed randomized trials to explore the indications,complications and results for each evolving approach.A continuous reduction of tract size is not the only revolution of the last years.There is constant ongoing interest in developing new efficient miniature instruments,intracorporeal lithotripters and sophisticated tract creation methods.We can summarize that,PCNL represents a valuable well-known tool in the field of endourology.We should be open minded to future changes in surgical approaches and technological improvements. | Itay M.Sabler Ioannis Katafigiotis Ofer N.Gofrit Mordechai Duvdevani | 2018 | Asian Journal of Urology2018，5，4： | 7 |
| 2 | Direct and relaxation methods for soil-structure interaction due to tunneling显示文摘This paper deals with the problem of tunneling effects on existing buildings. The direct solution,using the condensation method,is presented. This method allows the structural and geotechnical engineers to treat the problem separately and then assemble a relatively small matrix that can be solved directly,even within a spreadsheet. There are certain concerns that the resultant matrix may be ill-conditioned when the structure is very stiff. This paper suggests an alternative method that essentially relaxes the system from an infinitely rigid structure solution. As such,it does not encounter the problems associated with stiff systems. The two methods are evaluated for an example problem of tunneling below a framed structure. It is found that while the direct method may fail to predict reasonable values when the structure is extremely rigid,the alternative method is stable. | 4 | Bright artificial light at night is associated with increased body mass,poor reproductive success and compromised disease tolerance in Australian budgerigars(Melopsittacus undulatus)显示文摘Artificial light at night(ALAN)can cause circadian disruption and result in adverse behavioral and ecological effects in free-living birds,but studies on captive pet birds as companion animals have been infrequent.We studied the effects of exposure to bright ALAN on body mass,melatonin sulfate levels,reproduction and disease severity in Australian budgerigars(Melopsittacus undulatus)kept in captivity.During the experiment,birds were kept under outdoor temperature,humidity and natural photoperiod from September to December.A total of 48 birds were equally split into 4 groups(6 mating pairs each)and concurrently exposed to ALAN of 200 lux with different duration(0,30,60 and 90 min).Monthly observations were recorded for all dependent parameters.ALAN exposure increased mass gain and suppressed melatonin levels in a dose-dependent manner,especially during December.In addition,ALAN exposure in all duration groups decreased egg production and reduced hatchability from 61%±14%in the ALAN-unexposed control group to 0%in the ALAN-exposed birds.Disease severity was also found to increase in line with the duration of ALAN exposure.In captive M.undulatus,ALAN exposure was demonstrated to affect photoperiodic regulation with subsequent excess mass gain and reproduction impairment,and increased susceptibility to infections plausibly through duration dose-dependent suppression of melatonin.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first study to demonstrate a possible association between acute bright ALAN of increasing duration and both natural development of infections as well as reproductive cessation in captive birds.Our findings could be used to improve breeding conditions of captive birds. | Itay MALEK Abraham HAIM | 2019 | Integrative Zoology2019，14，6： | 2 |
