| 2 | Soil enzymatic activities and microbial community structure with different application rates of Cd and Pb显示文摘This study focused on the changes of soil microbial diversity and potential inhibitory effects of heavy metals on soil enzymatic activities at different application rates of Cd andor Pb. The soil used for experiments was collected from Beijing and classified as endoaquepts. Pots containing 500 g of the soil with different Cd andor Pb application rates were incubated for a period of 0, 2, 9, 12 weeks in a glasshouse and the soil samples were analyzed for individual enzymes, including catalase, alkaline phosphatase and dehydrogenase, and the changes of microbial community structure. Results showed that heavy metals slightly inhibited the enzymatic activities in all the samples spiked with heavy metals. The extent of inhibition increased significantly with increasing level of heavy metals, and varied with the incubation periods. The soil bacterial community structure, as determined by polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis techniques, was different in the contaminated samples as compared to the control. The highest community change was observed in the samples amended with high level of Cd. | 3 | Comparison of bacterial community structures in two systems of a sewage treatment plant using PCR-DGGE analysis显示文摘The combination of PCR amplification of 16S rRNA genes with denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis was used to reveal the compositions and dynamics of bacterial communities in a sewage treatment plant with two systems, i.e., an anoxic- anaerobic-aerobic system (inverted A2O) and an anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic one (conventional A2O) over a period from February to July 2009, during which both systems experienced serious sludge bulking problems. The DGGE patterns showed that there were many common bands in both systems, suggesting the high similarity of bacterial communities of the two systems. Meanwhile, the moving window correlation analysis showed that the two systems experienced different microbial community structure changes during the period, which might be related with the different situations of the occurrence and disappearance of sludge bulking, as being reflected by sludge volume index (SVI) values. Major bands of DGGE patterns of sludge samples were further sequenced. Phylogenetic affiliation indicated that the majority of the sequences obtained were affiliated with Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes/Chlorobi group and α- and β-Proteobacteria. | 5 | Vitamin D deficiency: Correlation to interleukin-17, interleukin-23 and PⅢNP in hepatitis C virus genotype 4显示文摘AIM: To assess vitamin D (Vit D) abnormalities in hepatitis C infected patients and their relationship with interleukin (IL)-17, IL-23 and N-terminal propeptide of type Ⅲ pro-collagen (PⅢNP) as immune response mediators. METHODS: The study was conducted on 50 Egyptian patients (36 male, 14 female) with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, who visited the Hepatology Outpatient Clinic in the Endemic Disease Hospital at Cairo University. Patients were compared with 25 ageand sexmatched healthy individuals. Inclusion criteria were based on a history of liver disease with HCV genotype 4 (HCV-4) infection (as new patients or under followup). Based on ultrasonography, patients were classified into four subgroups; 14 with bright hepatomegaly; 11 with perihepatic fibrosis; 11 with hepatic cirrhosis; and 14 with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Total Vit D (i.e., 25-OH-Vit D) and active Vit D [i.e., 1,25-(OH) 2 -Vit D] assays were carried out using commercial kits. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP levels were assayed using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay kits, while HCV virus was measured by quantitative and qualitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Levels of Vit D and its active form were significantly lower in advanced liver disease (hepatic cirrhosis and/or carcinoma) patients, compared to those with bright hepatomegaly and perihepatic fibrosis. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP levels were markedly increased in HCV patients and correlated with the progression of hepatic damage. The decrease in Vit D and active Vit D was concomitant with an increase in viral load, as well as levels of IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP among all subgroups of HCV-infected patients, compared to normal healthy controls. A significant negative correlation was evident between active Vit D and each of IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP (r = -0.679, -0.801 and -0.920 at P < 0.001, respectively). HCV-infected men and women showed no differences with respect to Vit D levels. The viral load was negatively correlated with Vit D and active Vit D (r = -0.084 and -0.846 at P < 0.001, respectively), and positively correlated with IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP (r = 0.951, 0.922 and 0.94 at P < 0.001, respectively). Whether the deficiency in Vit D was related to HCVinduced chronic liver disease or was a predisposing factor for a higher viral load remains to be elucidated. | 6 | Dynamic Cluster Head for Lifetime Efficiency in WSN显示文摘Saving energy and increasing network lifetime are significant challenges in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this paper, we propose a mechanism to distribute the responsibility of cluster-heads among the wireless sensor nodes in the same cluster based on the ZigBee standard, which is the latest WSN standard. ZigBee supports ad hoc on-demand vector (AODV) and cluster-tree routing protocols in its routing layer. However, none of these protocols considers the energy level of the nodes in the network establishing process or in the data routing process. The cluster-tree routing protocol supports single or multi-cluster networks. However, each single cluster in the multi-cluster network has only one node acting as a cluster head. These cluster-heads are fixed in each cluster during the network lifetime. Consequently, using these cluster-heads will cause them to die quickly, and the entire linked nodes to these cluster-heads will be disconnected from the main network. Therefore, the proposed technique to distribute the role of the cluster head among the wireless sensor nodes in the same cluster is vital to increase the lifetime of the network. Our proposed technique is better in terms of performance than the original structure of these protocols. | 9 | Total knee arthroplasty for treatment of post-traumatic arthritis: Systematic review显示文摘AIM To review and report functional outcomes, complications,and survivorship associated with total knee arthroplasty(TKA) in the treatment of post-traumatic arthritis(PTA).METHODS We conducted a systematic review according to the PRISMA guidelines. We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, and SCOPUS in December 2015 for Englishlanguage clinical research studies, both prospective and retrospective, examining the use of TKA for the treatment of PTA. All relevant articles were accessed in full. The manual search included references of retrieved articles.We extracted data on patients' demographics and clinical outcomes, including preoperative diagnosis and pre- and post-operative functional scores. We summarized the data and reported the results in tables and text.RESULTS Sixteen studies, four prospective and ten retrospective,examined patients who underwent TKA for PTA due to fractures of the proximal tibia, patella, and/or distal femur. Eleven studies utilized the Knee Society Scores criteria to assess functional outcomes. All studies utilizing these criteria reported an improvement in functional and knee scores of patients following TKA. Further, studies reported an increased range of motion(ROM) and reduction of pain following surgery. The most commonly reported complications with TKA included infection, stiffness, wound complications, intraoperative rupture of tendons, and osteolysis/polyethylene wear. The overwhelming majority of these complications occurred within the first two years following surgery. Six studies examined the survivorship of TKA with subsequent revision for any reason as an endpoint. | 10 | IL28B polymorphism and cytomegalovirus predict response to treatment in Egyptian HCV type 4 patients显示文摘AIM:To test whether the status of positive cytomegalovirus(CMV) DNA detection adds to the predictive value of IL28B and to further categorize C/T allele carriers.METHODS:This study included 166 chronic hepatitis C(CHC) patients who received combined interferon and ribavirin therapy for 48 wk,84 spontaneous hepatitis C virus(HCV) resolvers who were positive for IgG anti-HCV antibody and negative for HCV RNA,and 100 healthy subjects who were negative for both HCV antibodies and RNA as controls.Genomic DNA from peripheral blood was used for IL28B rs.12979860 single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) and CMV DNA detection.A 139 bp fragment containing IL28B SNP was amplified in all subjects by polymerase chain reaction using a specifically designed primer.Then the IL28B rs.12979860 SNP was detected by restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP) genotyping.The presence of CMV DNA was tested by amplification of the gB1 gene using nested polymerase chain reaction.The role of CMV and IL28B rs.12979860 SNP genotypes in determining the response rate to combined interferon therapy and clinical status of patients were statistically analyzed.RESULTS:Current data showed that 67% of patients carrying the IL28B 12979860 C/C allele had a sustained viral response(SVR) while the genotypes C/T and TT were associated with lower SVR rates,50% and 48%,respectively.SVR rates for the C/C allele were lower than other HCV genotypes and/or other populations.Genotype CC was associated with the response to interferon(P = 0.025).Genotype C/C was reduced from 48% in controls to 14% in CHC patients suggesting its protective role against progression to chronicity.The majority of spontaneously cleared subjects(86%) were C/C,confirming its protective role.The C/T allele was present in 71% of CHC patients compared with 38% of controls,so the use of IL28B SNP genotyping only in these patients may be of little value as a predictor of response.CMV reactivation occurred in 40% of CHC patients.Co-infection with CMV seriously diminished the response to interferon(IFN) therapy,with SVR rates in C/C genotypes 87.5% in CMV-negative patients and 12.5% in CMV-positive patients(P < 0.0001).SVR rates among C/T carriers were reduced to < 50% in patients with positive CMV DNA while the non-response rate doubled.These data indicate that a supplemental assay for CMV viremia adds to the prognostic value of IL28B genotyping.CONCLUSION:The results suggest that both genetic(i.e.,spontaneous) and therapeutic(IFN-based therapy) arms are complementary in the battle against HCV.CMV DNA testing may be of value to better predict the response to IFN,particularly in IL28B C/T carriers. | Mostafa K El Awady Noha G Bader El Din Ashraf Tabll Yaser El Hosary Ashraf O Abdel Aziz Hesham El Khayat Mohsen Salama Tawfeek H Abdelhafez | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,2: | 8 |
| 11 | Interleukin-1 and estrogen protect against disseminating dentoalveolar infections显示文摘Dentoalveolar bacterial infections cause localized tissue and bone destruction, but usually remain well-localized within teeth in immunocompetent hosts. However, in certain cases these infections may invade head and neck tissues, resulting in orofacial abscesses, cellulitis and sepsis, with resultant high morbidity and even mortality. In the present studies, we developed a novel model of spreading dentoalveolar infections in mice by treatment with neutralizing antibodies against both interleukin-1α(IL-1α)and IL-1β. Surprisingly male but not female mice given anti-IL-1 antibodies developed orofacial abscesses, weight loss,splenomegaly and sepsis. Female mice developed abscesses and sepsis comparable to males following ovariectomy(OVX), which was reversed by estrogen supplementation. Anti-IL-1 blockade inhibited IL-12, interferon γ(IFNγ) and IL-6 but not IL-10 expression in infrabony lesions, suggestive of a local anti-inflammatory response. There was greater infiltration of neutrophils and other inflammatory cells into lesions in anti-IL-1-treated animals; however, blood leukocytes had reduced bacterial phagocytic and killing activity ex vivo. | 12 | Spatial distribution of air temperature and relative humidity in the greenhouse as affected by external shading in arid climates显示文摘The effect of external roof shading on the spatial distribution of air temperature and relative humidity in a greenhouse(Tin and RHin) was evaluated under the arid climatic conditions of Riyadh City, Saudi Arabia. Two identical, evaporatively-cooled, single-span greenhouses were used in the experiment. One greenhouse was externally shaded(Gs) using a movable black plastic net(30% transmissivity), and the other greenhouse was kept without shading(Gc). Strawberry plants were cultivated in both greenhouses. The results showed that the spatial distribution of the Tin and RHin was significantly affected by the outside solar radiation and evaporative cooling operation. The regression analysis showed that when the outside solar radiation intensity increased from 200 to 800 W m–2, the Tin increased by 4.5℃ in the Gc and 2℃in the Gs, while the RHin decreased by 15% in the Gc and 5% in the Gs, respectively. Compared with those in the Gc, more uniformity in the spatial distribution of the Tin and RHin was observed in the Gs. The difference between the maximum and minimum Tin of 6.4℃ and the RHin of 10% was lower in the Gs than those in the Gc during the early morning. Around 2℃ difference in the Tin was shown between the area closed to the exhausted fans and the area closed to the cooling pad with the external shading. In an evaporatively-cooled greenhouse in arid regions, the variation of the Tin and RHin in the vertical direction and along the sidewalls was much higher than that in the horizontal direction. The average variation of the Tin and RHin in the vertical direction was 5.2℃ and 10% in the Gc and 5.5℃ and 13% in the Gs, respectively. | 15 | Rare earth oxides doped NiO/γ-Al_2O_3 catalyst for oxidative dehydrogenation of cyclohexane显示文摘The effect of rare earth oxides(RE=Ce, La, Gd, and Dy) doping of alumina support in NiO/γ-Al2O3 system was investigated on its catalytic performance in oxidative dehydrogenation(ODH) of cyclohexane. The physicochemical properties of various samples were followed up through N2 physisorption, temperature programmed reduction(H2-TPR), X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and potentiometric acid-base titration techniques. In the parent NiO/γ-Al2O3 catalyst, Ni species were found to be strongly interacted with alumina surface. Addition of rare earth dopants to γ-Al2O3 in the catalyst system affected the nickel-alumina interaction and resulted in significant modifications in the catalytic performances in the ODH reaction. The results revealed the beneficial role of both La2O3 and Gd2O3 doping in enhancing the ODH catalytic activity and selectivity to cyclohexene. H2-TPR and XPS results indicated that majority of Ni species in NiO/La2O3 modified γ-Al2O3 were more weakly interacted with La2O3 and alumina whereas both NiO like species and nickel aluminate were present on the surface. Doping with cerium or dysprosium increased the nickel-support interaction and led to a decrease in surface nickel concentration. In case of doping with Ce, surface concentration of cerium oxide was higher than those of the other RE oxides; the doped catalyst reached its steady state activity faster than the other catalysts. The acid-base results suggested that RE metals were interacted most likely with acidic surface hydroxyl groups. | 17 | 多中心随机对照试验:再生复原技术治疗各种开放性创面的疗效评价显示文摘目的评估再生疗法(MEBT/MEBO)治疗各种急慢性开放性创面的安全性和有效性。方法将2007年1月至2012年1月期间因各种开放性创伤就诊于3家不同医院的276例患者(376处创面)随机分组,接受MEBT/MEBO治疗(1组:患者141例,创面190处)或生理盐水湿敷治疗(2组:患者135例,创面186处)。前瞻性收集人口统计学、诱发疾病、合并症和创面特征等数据;每隔2周计算和对比刨面面积和愈合指数,持续12周;记录治疗后24周的二次截肢情况。结果开放性创伤包括慢性褥疮(202处)、糖尿病足溃疡(119处)和各种其它创面(55处)。受试患者中171例(63%)为男性,105例(37%)为女性;年龄介于5~102岁,平均年龄63岁±14.5岁。两组患者在人口统计学、临床特点、生化检查和创面特征方面接近。MEBT/MEBO治疗组在治疗2周时,其愈合指数显著升高、创面面积显著缩小;在12周时,MEBT/MEBO组中66.3%(126/190)的创面实现了完全愈合(HI=1),而生理盐水湿敷组仅22.6%(42/186)的创面完全愈合(,=71.4,P=0.000)。治疗12周时,MEBT/MEBO组无l例患者的愈合指数〈0.5;而生理盐水湿敷组38.7%(72/186)的患者愈合指数〈0.5X=165,P=0.000)。两组患者均无不良反应或过敏反应发生。治疗后24周,与生理盐水湿敷组相比,MEBT/MEBO治疗组的二次截肢率明显降低(3.3%:19.0%)(X。=7.52,P=0.006)。结论MEBT/MEBO不仅操作简便、使用安全,还能显著促进开放性创面的愈合,治疗2周就可显著提高创面愈合指数,12周时几乎2/3的创面可完全愈合,24周时糖尿病足溃疡患者中发生二次截肢的患者明显减少。 | Mahmoud F.Sakr 王乡宁 付子俊 Hossam Hamed Hesham El-Torky | 2013 | 中国烧伤创疡杂志2013,25,3: | 4 |
| 18 | Exogenous Selenium Mitigates Salt Stress in Soybean by Improving Growth,Physiology,Glutathione Homeostasis and Antioxidant Defense显示文摘The mechanism of selenium(Se)-induced salt tolerance was studied in moderately sensitive soybean(Glycine max L.)plants.To execute this view,soybean plants were imposed with salt stress(EC 6 dS m^(−1))applying NaCl.In other treatments,Se(0,25,50 and 75μM Na_(2)SeO_(4))was sprayed as co-application with that level of salt stress.Plant height,stem diameter,leaf area,SPAD value decreased noticeably under salt stress.Altered proline(Pro)level,together with decreased leaf relative water content(RWC)was observed in salt-affected plants.Salt stress resulted in brutal oxidative damage and increased the content of H_(2)O_(2),MDA level and electrolyte leakage.Exogenous Se spray alleviated oxidative damage through boosting up the antioxidant defense system by increasing the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as catalase(CAT),peroxidase(POD)and glutathione reductase(GR),as well as by improving non-enzymatic antioxidants like glutathione(GSH)and GSH/glutathione disulfide(GSSG).The upregulated antioxidant defense system,restored Pro and leaf RWC,higher SPAD value conferred better growth and development in Se-sprayed salt-affected soybean plants which altogether put forth for the progressive yield contributing parameters and finally,seed yield.Among different doses of Se,soybean plants sprayed with 50μM Na_(2)SeO_(4)showed better salt tolerance. | Hesham F.Alharby Mirza Hasanuzzaman Hassan S.Al-Zahrani Khalid Rehman Hakeem | 2021 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2021,90,2: | 3 |
| 19 | Impacts of produced water origin on bacterial community structures of activated sludge显示文摘The purpose of this study was to reveal how activated sludge communities respond to influent quality and indigenous communities by treating two produced waters from different origins in a batch reactor in succession. The community shift and compositions were investigated using Polymerase Chain Reaction–denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(PCR–DGGE) and further16 S ribosomal DNA(r DNA) clone library analysis. The abundance of targeted genes for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH) degradation, nah Ac/phn Ac and C12O/C23 O, was tracked to define the metabolic ability of the in situ microbial community by Most Probable Number(MPN) PCR. The biosystem performed almost the same for treatment of both produced waters in terms of removals of chemical oxygen demand(COD) and PAHs. Sludge communities were closely associated with the respective influent bacterial communities(similarity > 60%), while one sludge clone library was dominated by the Betaproteobacteria(38%) and Bacteriodetes(30%)and the other was dominated by Gammaproteobacteria(52%). This suggested that different influent and water quality have an effect on sludge community compositions. | 20 | Balancing the Power Consumption Speed in Flat and Hierarchical WSN显示文摘A combination of a cluster tree routing protocol and an Ad hoc on demand vector (AODV) routing protocol is used in the latest ZigBee standard wireless sensor networks (WSNs) technology. However, the AODV routing protocol has no means by which to take into consideration the power consumption of the nodes during the routing process. Therefore, a new approach is proposed in this paper to balance the power consumption speed and to distribute the responsibilities of routing among fiat wireless sensor nodes and the three levels of hierarchical wireless sensor nodes. These three levels are based on the three types of devices, which are used in the ZigBee standard: the coordinator, the touters, and the end devices. In this paper, we have compared the original AODV routing protocol with our extension approach for the distribution of power consumption. Based on the simulation results, our new approach has achieved better performance in terms of increasing the lifetime of the fiat wireless sensor network, the personal area network (PAN)coordinator, the touters, and the whole network of the hierarchical wireless sensor network.
