1Significance of Axial Length Monitoring in Children with Congenital Cataract and Update of Measurement Methods显示文摘Congenital cataract is the main cause of blindness in children, with significantly varying treatment effects. The development of axial length is an important factor that affects the prognosis of these children.However,when compared with the eyes of normal children,the mechanism of growth of the axial length is so complicated that the reported findings differ significantly in terms of the measuring apparatus,assessment methods,and statistical outcome,making the rule of axial length development still unclear. In this paper, we first review the process of axial length development in normal healthy children and compare different hypotheses about certain factors that could affect the development of axial length. The results of some current research about the characteristics of axial length development in congenital cataract children are then reviewed. Early diagnosis and treatment of congenital eye illnesses are of great significance for affected infants, their families, and even society as a whole. 6Oxidation-strengthened disulfide-bridged prodrug nanoplatforms with cascade facilitated drug release for synergetic photochemotherapy显示文摘One of the major barriers in utilizing prodrug nanocarriers for cancer therapy is the slow release of parent drug in tumors.Tumor cells generally display the higher oxidative level than normal cells,and also displayed the heterogeneity in terms of redox homeostasis level.We previously found that the disulfide bond-linkage demonstrates surprising oxidationsensitivity to form the hydrophilic sulfoxide and sulphone groups.Herein,we develop oxidation-strengthened prodrug nanosystem loaded with pyropheophorbide a(PPa)to achieve light-activatable cascade drug release and enhance therapeutic efficacy.The disulfide bond-driven prodrug nanosystems not only respond to the redox-heterogeneity in tumor,but also respond to the exogenous oxidant(singlet oxygen)elicited by photosensitizers.Once the prodrug nanoparticles(NPs)are activated under irradiation,they would undergo an oxidative self-strengthened process,resulting in a facilitated drug cascade release.The IC50 value of the PPa@PTX-S-S NPs without irradiation was 2-fold higher than those of NPs plus irradiation.In vivo,the PPa@PTX prodrug NPs display prolonged systemic circulation and increased accumulation in tumor site.The PPa@PTXS-S NPs showed much higher efficiency than free PTX or the PPa@PTX-C-C NPs to suppress the growth of 4 T1 tumors.Therefore,this novel oxidation-strengthened disulfide-bridged prodrug-nanosystem has a great potential in the enhanced efficacy of cancer synergetic photochemotherapy.Bin Yang Lin Wei Yuequan Wang Na Li Bin Ji Kaiyuan Wang Xuanbo Zhang Shenwu Zhang Shuang Zhou Xiaohui Yao Hang Song Yusheng Wu Haotian Zhang Qiming Kan Tao Jin Jin Sun 2020Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences2020,15,5:2

8Unique strength-ductility balance of AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1)eutectic high entropy alloy with ultra-fine duplex microstructure prepared by selective laser melting显示文摘As a typical dual-phase eutectic high entropy alloy(EHEA),AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1)can achieve the fair matching of strength and ductility,which has attracted wide attention.However,the engineering applications of as-cast AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1)EHEAs still face challenges,such as coarse grain and low yield strength resulting from low solidification rate and temperature gradient.In this study,selective laser melting(SLM)was introduced into the preparation of AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1)EHEA to realize unique strength-ductility balance,with emphasis on investigating the effects of processing parameters on its eutectic microstructure and properties.The results show that the SLM-ed samples exhibit a completely eutectic structure consisting of ultra-fine face-centered cubic(FCC)and ordered body-centered cubic(B2)phases,and the duplex microstructure undergoes a morphological evolution from lamellar structure to cellular structure as laser energy input reducing.The SLM-ed AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1)EHEA presents an excellent match of high tensile strength(1271 MPa),yield strength(966 MPa),and good ductility(22.5%)at room temperature,which are significantly enhanced by the ultra-fine grains and heterogeneous structure due to rapid solidification rate and high temperature gradient during SLM.Especially,the yield strength increment of~50%is realized with no loss in ductility as compared with the as-cast samples with the same composition.On this basis,the precise complex component with excellent mechanical properties is well achieved.This work paves the way for the performance improvement and complex parts preparation of EHEA by microstructural design using laser additive manufacturing.Yinuo Guo Haijun Su Haotian Zhou Zhonglin Shen Yuan Liu Jun Zhang Lin Liu Hengzhi Fu 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,16:2

12Exploration of Management Workflow of Cataract Surgery in an Impoverished Population in Urban China显示文摘Purpose:.To explore and establish a rational management workflow for a free cataract surgery program for the poor population in urban China, aiming to improve surgical efficiency.Methods:.Establishment of a management workflow mainly includes system design and an auxiliary facility. System design procedures consist of outpatient screening, outpatient physical examination,.surgical procedures,.and postoperative clinic visits. After establishing the management workflow of cataract surgery, a free cataract surgery program was conducted for 15 months.Results: Based upon the established management mode, 9003 patients received preoperative screening and 2358 underwent cataract surgery..During the 15-month investigation,.each procedure was successfully conducted,.the efficiency of screening and operation attained the highest standards in China,.and no surgical malpractice occurred intraoperatively.Conclusion:.In this study,.a management workflow for cataract surgery was designed for a poverty relief project in urban China. 17Unbiased transcriptomic analyses reveal distinet effects of immune deficiency in CNS function with and without injury显示文摘The mammalian central nervous system (CNS) is considered an immune privileged system as it is separated from the periphery by the blood brain barrier (BBB). Yet, immune functions have been postulated to heavily influence the functional state of the CNS, especially after injury or during neurodegeneration. There is controversy regarding whether adaptive immune responses are beneficial or detrimental to CNS injury repair. In this study, we utilized immunocompromised SCID mice and subjected them to spinal cord injury (SCI). We analyzed motor function, electrophysiology, histochemistry, and performed unbiased RNA-sequencing. SCID mice displayed improved CNS functional recovery compared to WT mice after SCI. Weighted gene-coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) of spinal cord transcriptomes revealed that SCID mice had reduced expression of immune function-related genes and heightened expression of neural transmission-related genes after SCI, which was confirmed by immunohistochemical analysis and was consistent with better functional recovery. Transcriptomic analyses also indicated heightened expression of neurotransmission-related genes before injury in SCID mice, suggesting that a steady state of immune-deficiency potentially led to CNS hyper-connectivity. Consequently, SCID mice without injury demonstrated worse performance in Morris water maze test. Taken together, not only reduced inflammation after injury but also dampened steady-state immune function without injury heightened the neurotransmission program, resulting in better or worse behavioral outcomes respectively. 20Application of artifcial intelligence in cataract management:current and future directions显示文摘The rise of artifcial intelligence(AI)has brought breakthroughs in many areas of medicine.In ophthalmology,AI has delivered robust results in the screening and detection of diabetic retinopathy,age-related macular degeneration,glaucoma,and retinopathy of prematurity.Cataract management is another feld that can beneft from greater AI application.Cataract is the leading cause of reversible visual impairment with a rising global clinical burden.Improved diagnosis,monitoring,and surgical management are necessary to address this challenge.In addition,patients in large developing countries often sufer from limited access to tertiary care,a problem further exacerbated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.AI on the other hand,can help transform cataract management by improving automation,efcacy and overcoming geographical barriers.First,AI can be applied as a telediagnostic platform to screen and diagnose patients with cataract using slit-lamp and fundus photographs.This utilizes a deep-learning,convolutional neural network(CNN)to detect and classify referable cataracts appropriately.Second,some of the latest intraocular lens formulas have used AI to enhance prediction accuracy,achieving superior postoperative refractive results compared to traditional formulas.Third,AI can be used to augment cataract surgical skill training by identifying diferent phases of cataract surgery on video and to optimize operating theater workfows by accurately predicting the duration of surgical procedures.Fourth,some AI CNN models are able to efectively predict the progression of posterior capsule opacifcation and eventual need for YAG laser capsulotomy.These advances in AI could transform cataract management and enable delivery of efcient ophthalmic services.The key challenges include ethical management of data,ensuring data security and privacy,demonstrating clinically acceptable performance,improving the generalizability of AI models across heterogeneous populations,and improving the trust of end-users.Laura Gutierrez Jane Sujuan Lim Li Lian Foo Wei Yan Ng Michelle Yip Gilbert Yong San Lim Melissa Hsing Yi Wong Allan Fong Mohamad Rosman Jodhbir Singth Mehta Haotian Lin Darren Shu Jeng Ting Daniel Shu Wei Ting 2024Eye and Vision2024,10,1:0
