1Intelligent metasurfaces:control,communication and computing显示文摘Controlling electromagnetic waves and information simultaneously by information metasurfaces is of central importance in modern society.Intelligent metasurfaces are smart platforms to manipulate the wave-information-matter interactions without manual intervention by synergizing engineered ultrathin structures with active devices and algorithms,which evolve from the passive composite materials for tailoring wave-matter interactions that cannot be achieved in nature.Here,we review the recent progress of intelligent metasurfaces in wave-information-matter controls by providing the historical background and underlying physical mechanisms.Then we explore the application of intelligent metasurfaces in developing novel wireless communication architectures,with particular emphasis on metasurface-modulated backscatter wireless communications.We also explore the wave-based computing by using the intelligent metasurfaces,focusing on the emerging research direction in intelligent sensing.Finally,we comment on the challenges and highlight the potential routes for the further developments of the intelligent metasurfaces for controls,communications and computing.Lianlin Li Hanting Zhao Che Liu Long Li Tie Jun Cui 2022eLight2022,2,1:7
2Intelligent metasurface imager and recognizer显示文摘There is an increasing need to remotely monitor people in daily life using radio-frequency probe signals.However,conventional systems can hardly be deployed in real-world settings since they typically require objects to either deliberately cooperate or carry a wireless active device or identification tag.To accomplish complicated successive tasks using a single device in real time,we propose the simultaneous use of a smart metasurface imager and recognizer,empowered by a network of artificial neural networks(ANNs)for adaptively controlling data flow.Here,three ANNs are employed in an integrated hierarchy,transforming measured microwave data into images of the whole human body,classifying specifically designated spots(hand and chest)within the whole image,and recognizing human hand signs instantly at a Wi-Fi frequency of 2.4 GHz.Instantaneous in situ full-scene imaging and adaptive recognition of hand signs and vital signs of multiple non-cooperative people were experimentally demonstrated.We also show that the proposed intelligent metasurface system works well even when it is passively excited by stray Wi-Fi signals that ubiquitously exist in our daily lives.The reported strategy could open up a new avenue for future smart cities,smart homes,human-device interaction interfaces,health monitoring,and safety screening free of visual privacy issues.Lianlin Li Ya Shuang Qian Ma Haoyang Li Hanting Zhao Menglin Wei Che Liu Chenglong Hao Cheng-Wei Qiu Tie Jun Cui 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:5
3CPPU may induce gibberellin-independent parthenocarpy associated with PbRR9 in‘Dangshansu’pear显示文摘Parthenocarpy is a valuable trait in self-incompatible plants,such as pear.N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)-N’-phenylurea(CPPU),a synthetic cytokinin analog,can induce parthenocarpy in pear(Pyrus spp.),but the mechanism of induction is unclear.To investigate the role of gibberellin in CPPU-induced parthenocarpy in pear,CPPU supplemented with paclobutrazol(PAC)was sprayed onto‘Dangshansu’pear.We found that the fruit set rate of pear treated with CPPU supplemented with PAC was identical to that in a CPPU-alone treatment group.In regard to cell development,CPPU mainly promoted hypanthium cell division and expansion,and PAC application had no influence on CPPU-induced cell development.RNA sequencing revealed that gibberellin 20 oxidase and gibberellin 3 oxidase genes were not differentially expressed following CPPU treatment.According to the analysis of fruit phytohormone content,the CPPU treatments did not induce gibberellin biosynthesis.These results suggest that CPPU-induced parthenocarpy may be gibberellin independent in‘Dangshansu’pear.After CPPU treatment,the indole acetic acid(IAA)content in fruit was significantly increased,and the abscisic acid(ABA)content was significantly decreased.Similarly,RNA sequencing revealed that many genes involved in the auxin and ABA pathways were significantly differentially expressed in the CPPU treatment groups;among them,indole-3-pyruvate monooxygenase(YUCCA)was significantly upregulated and 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase(NCED)was significantly downregulated.IAA and ABA may thus play important roles in CPPU-induced parthenocarpy.PbTwo-component response regulator9(PbRR9),PbYUCCA4,and PbNCED6 were then selected to further elucidate the mechanism of CPPU-induced parthenocarpy.A yeast one-hybrid assay indicated that PbRR9 can combine with the PbYUCCA4 and PbNCED6 promoters.Dual luciferase assays revealed that PbRR9 can promote and repress the activities of the PbYUCCA4 and PbNCED6 promoters,respectively.After the transient expression of PbRR9 in fruits,PbYUCCA4 expression was significantly upregulated,and PbNCED6 expression was significantly downregulated.This study uncovered a CPPU-induced parthenocarpy mechanism that is different from that in tomato.CPPU may upregulate PbYUCCA4 and downregulate PbNCED6 by upregulating PbRR9,thereby increasing IAA content and decreasing ABA content to ultimately induce parthenocarpy in‘Dangshansu’pear.However,because only a single time point was used and because‘botanical’and‘accessory’fruits have different structures,this conclusion is still preliminary.Liu Cong Ting Wu Hanting Liu Huibin Wang Haiqi Zhang Guangping Zhao Yao Wen Qianrong Shi Lingfei Xu Zhigang Wang 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:4

5Genetic variants in the Hedgehog signaling pathway genes are associated with gastric cancer risk in a Chinese Han population显示文摘The Hedgehog signaling pathway participates in the occurrence and progression of cancers including gastric cancer.We conducted this study to evaluate whether genetic variants in the Hedgehog signaling pathway genes would affect gastric cancer risk.Multi-marker Analysis of GenoMic Annotation(MAGMA)was used to investigate the aggregated genetic effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)assigned to candidate genes.The relationship between SNPs and gastric cancer risk was estimated by multivariate logistic regression analyses.Gene expression was calculated using databases obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)and The Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO).Kaplan‐Meier plotter was used to evaluate the association between gene expression with gastric cancer survival.Tumor Immune Estimation Resource 2.0(TIMER 2.0)was applied to determine the correlation between selected gene expression and the immune cell infiltration degree.We identified that the G allele of rs2990912 in KIF27 was associated with higher gastric cancer risk,especially in the young and male subgroups.The expression of KIF27 in gastric cancer tissues was higher than that in normal tissues,leading to poor survival in gastric cancer patients.Besides,KIF27 expression was related to immune cell infiltration and positively correlated with PD-L1 expression.Our findings highlight the key role of genetic variation in the Hedgehog signaling pathway genes in gastric cancer susceptibility,which may provide important insights into the diagnosis,prognosis,and treatment of gastric cancer.Yujuan Zhang Kai Lu Xu Wu Hanting Liu Junyi Xin Xiaowei Wang Weida Gong Qinghong Zhao Meilin Wang Haiyan Chu Mulong Du Guoquan Tao Zhengdong Zhang 2022The Journal of Biomedical Research2022,36,1:1
6Effects of Different Harvest Periods on Seed Quality of Alpinia oxyphylla Miq.显示文摘[Objectives] To clarify the appropriate harvest period of Alpinia oxyphylla Miq. seed and improve the quality of seeds. [Methods] In this experiment,the basic parameters and germination characteristics of A. oxyphylla Miq. seeds during different harvest periods were analyzed and compared. [Results] The results showed that the A. oxyphylla Miq. fruit picking period was closely related to the seed quality,and the seed maturity was highest 100 d after the flowering of A. oxyphylla Miq.,that is,the A. oxyphylla Miq. fruit skin turned from green to yellow( yellow-green),the peel had a small number of brown spots,it was spicy enough,the fruit dry/fresh weight ratio was greater than0. 34,the seed thousand kernel weight reached 11 g or more,and the dried seed moisture content was 13. 01%. Using the TTC method,the seed viability index was determined to be 85%,and in this case,it was the best time of harvesting seed. The water permeability of A. oxyphylla Miq. seed was poor,and the seed imbibition and water absorption time was long,about 72 h. The maximum water absorption rate was about23. 71% at the imbibition and water absorption stage,and it was inferred that the A. oxyphylla Miq. seeds were hard seeds. The germination time of A. oxyphylla Miq. seeds was long,the mature A. oxyphylla Miq. seeds began to germinate on the 12 th d,and the germination rate reached 75. 56% on the 50 th d. 7One-step ethylene separation from ternary C_(2) hydrocarbon mixture with a robust zirconium metal-organic framework显示文摘One-step separation of high-purity ethylene(C_(2)H_(4))from C_(2) hydrocarbon mixture is critical but challenging because of the very similar molecular sizes and physical properties of C_(2)H_(4),ethane(C_(2)H_(6)),and acetylene(C_(2)H_(2)).Herein,we report a robust zirconium metal-organic framework(MOF)Zr-TCA(H3TCA=4,4',4'-tricarboxytriphenylamine)with suitable pore size(0.6 nm×0.7 nm)and pore environment for direct C_(2)H_(4) purification from C_(2)H_(4)/C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(6) gas-mixture.Computational studies indicate that the abundant oxygen atoms and non-polar phenyl rings created favorable pore environments for the preferential binding of C_(2)H_(2) and C_(2)H_(6) over C_(2)H_(4).As a result,Zr-TCA exhibits not only high C_(2)H_(6)(2.28 mmol·g^(-1))and C_(2)H_(2)(2.78 mmol·g^(-1))adsorption capacity but also excellent C_(2)H_(6)/C_(2)H_(4)(2.72)and C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(4)(5.64)selectivity,surpassing most of one-step C_(2)H_(4) purification MOF materials.Dynamic breakthrough experiments confirm that Zr-TCA can produce high-purity C_(2)H_(4)(>99.9%)from a ternary gas mixture(1/9/90 C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(6)/C_(2)H_(4))in a single step with a high C_(2)H_(4) productivity of 5.61 L·kg^(-1).Yuan Liu Hanting Xiong Jingwen Chen Shixia Chen Zhenyu Zhou Zheling Zeng Shuguang Deng Jun Wang 2023Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2023,59,7:0
8Alternative polyadenylation-related genetic variants contribute to bladder cancer risk显示文摘Aberrant alternative polyadenylation(APA)events play an important role in cancers,but little is known about whether APA-related genetic variants contribute to the susceptibility to bladder cancer.Previous genome-wide association study performed APA quantitative trait loci(apaQTL)analyses in bladder cancer,and identified 17955 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs).We found that gene symbols of APA affected by apaQTL-associated SNPs were closely correlated with cancer signaling pathways,high mutational burden,and immune infiltration.Association analysis showed that apaQTL-associated SNPs rs34402449 C>A,rs2683524 C>T,and rs11540872 C>G were significantly associated with susceptibility to bladder cancer(rs34402449:OR=1.355,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.159-1.583,P=1.33×10^(−4);rs2683524:OR=1.378,95%CI:1.164-1.632,P=2.03×10^(−4);rs11540872:OR=1.472,95%CI:1.193-1.815,P=3.06×10^(−4)).Cumulative effect analysis showed that the number of risk genotypes and smoking status were significantly associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer(P_(trend)=2.87×10^(−12)).We found that PRR13,being demonstrated the most significant effect on cell proliferation in bladder cancer cell lines,was more highly expressed in bladder cancer tissues than in adjacent normal tissues.Moreover,the rs2683524 T allele was correlated with shorter 3′untranslated regions of PRR13 and increased PRR13 expression levels.Collectively,our findings have provided informative apaQTL resources and insights into the regulatory mechanisms linking apaQTL-associated variants to bladder cancer risk.Ting Liu Jingjing Gu Chuning Li Mengfan Guo Lin Yuan Qiang Lv Chao Qin Mulong Du Haiyan Chu Hanting Liu Zhengdong Zhang 2023The Journal of Biomedical Research2023,37,6:0
9Digital light processing 3D printing for microfluidic chips with enhanced resolution via dosing-and zoning-controlled vat photopolymerization显示文摘Conventional manufacturing techniques to fabricate microfluidic chips,such as soft lithography and hot embossing process,have limitations that include difficulty in preparing multiple-layered structures,cost-and labor-consuming fabrication process,and low productivity.Digital light processing(DLP)technology has recently emerged as a costefficient microfabrication approach for the 3D printing of microfluidic chips;however,the fabrication resolution for microchannels is still limited to sub-100 microns at best.Here,we developed an innovative DLP printing strategy for high resolution and scalable microchannel fabrication by dosing-and zoning-controlled vat photopolymerization(DZC-VPP).Specifically,we proposed a modified mathematical model to precisely predict the accumulated UV irradiance for resin photopolymerization,thereby providing guidance for the fabrication of microchannels with enhanced resolution.By fine-tuning the printing parameters,including optical irradiance,exposure time,projection region,and step distance,we can precisely tailor the penetration irradiance stemming from the photopolymerization of the neighboring resin layers,thereby preventing channel blockage due to UV overexposure or compromised bonding stability owing to insufficient resin curing.Remarkably,this strategy can allow the preparation of microchannels with cross-sectional dimensions of 20μm×20μm using a commercial printer with a pixel size of 10μm×10μm;this is significantly higher resolution than previous reports.In addition,this method can enable the scalable and biocompatible fabrication of microfluidic drop-maker units that can be used for cell encapsulation.In general,the current DZC-VPP method can enable major advances in precise and scalable microchannel fabrication and represents a significant step forward for widespread applications of microfluidics-based techniques in biomedical fields.Zhiming Luo Haoyue Zhang Runze Chen Hanting Li Fang Cheng Lijun Zhang Jia Liu Tiantian Kong Yang Zhang Huanan Wang 2023Microsystems & Nanoengineering2023,9,4:0
