1Neuroprotective effects of daidzein on focal cerebral ischemia injury in rats显示文摘Daidzein, a plant extract, has antioxidant activity. It is hypothesized, in this study, that daidzein exhibits neuroprotective effects on cerebral ischemia. Rat models of middle cerebral artery occlusion were intraperitoneally administered daidzein. Biochemical and immunohistochemical tests showed that superoxide dismutase and nuclear respiratory factor 1 expression levels in the brain tissue decreased after ischemia and they increased obviously after daidzein administration; malondialdehyde level and apoptosis-related cysteine peptidase caspase-3 and caspase-9 immunoreactivity in the brain tissue increased after ischemia and they decreased obviously after daidzein administration. Hematoxylin-eosin staining and luxol fast blue staining results showed that intraperitoneal administration of daidzein markedly alleviated neuronal damage in the ischemic brain tissue. 2Inhibitory effects of regorafenib, a multiple tyrosine kinase inhibitor, on corneal neovascularization显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the inhibitory effects of regorafenib(BAY 73-4506),a multikinase inhibitor,on corneal neovascularization(NV).METHODS:Thirty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 250-300 g,were used.Corneal NV was induced by NaOH in the left eyes of each rat.Following the establishment of alkali burn,the animals were randomized into five groups according to topical treatment.Group 1(n=6)received 0.9%NaCl,Group 2(n=6)received dimethyl sulfoxide,Group 3(n=6)received regorafenib 1 mg/mL,Group 4(n=6)received bevacizumab 5 mg/mL and Group 5(n=6)received 0.1%dexamethasone phosphate.On the 7d,the corneal surface covered with neovascular vessels was measured on photographs as the percentage of the cornea's total area using computer-imaging analysis.The corneas obtained from rats were semiquantitatively evaluated for caspase-3 and vascular endothelial growth factor by immunostaining.RESULTS:A statistically significant difference in the percent area of corneal NV was found among the groups(P<0.001).Although the Group 5 had the smallest percent area of corneal NV,there was no difference among Groups 3,4 and 5(P>0.005).There was a statistically significant difference among the groups in apoptotic cell density(P=0.002).The staining intensity of vascular endothelial growth factor in the epithelial and endothelial layers of cornea was significantly different among the groups(P<0.05).The staining intensity of epithelial and endothelial vascular endothelial growth factor was significantly weaker in Groups 3,4 and 5 thanin Groups 1 and 2.CONCLUSION:Topical administration of regorafenib 1mg/mL is partly effective for preventing alkali-induced corneal NV in rats.Halil Ibrahim Onder Mesut Erdurmus Yasin Yücel Bucak Hüseyin Simavli Murat Oktay Ahmet Sahap Kukner 2014International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014,7,2:4
3Syringaldehyde exerts neuroprotective effect on cerebral ischemia injury in rats through anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic properties显示文摘There are few studies on the neuroprotective effects of syringaldehyde in a rat model of cerebral ischemia. The study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effects of syringaldehyde on ischemic brain cells. Rat models of cerebral ischemia were intraperitoneally administered syringaldehyde. At 6 and 24 hours after syringaldehyde administration, cell damage in the brain of cerebral ischemia rats was obviously reduced, superoxide dismutase activity and nuclear respiratory factor 1 expression in the brain tissue were markedly increased, malondiadehyde level was obviously decreased, apoptosis-related cysteine peptidase caspase-3 and-9 immunoreactivity was obviously decreased, and neurological function was markedly improved. 4Comparison of the clinical efficacy of two different types of post systems which were restored with composite restorations显示文摘AIM To compare the efficacy of resin composite restorations, retained with either polyethylene or zirconia-rich glass fiber posts. METHODS Sixty-two single rooted maxillary and mandibularcentral incisor teeth in forty-four patients (15 males and 29 females; age range 15-32 years) were restored either with an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWP) fiber post (Bondable Reinforcement Ribbon, DENSE, Ribbond, Seattle, WA, United States) or a zircon-rich glass fiber post (Snowpost, Lot H 040; Carbotech, Ganges, France). Then, direct resin composite restoration (Clearfil AP-X, Kuraray) was performed for both post systems in tooth color suitable. Patients were recalled for routine inspections at 6 mo, 1, 2 and 3 years.RESULTS The restorations were assessed during each recall evaluation according to predetermined clinical and radiographic criteria (periapical lesion; marginal leakage and integrity; color stability; surface stain and loss of retention of the post or the composite buildup material). 20Effect of taxifolin on cold-shock damages in spermatozoa in rabbits显示文摘Objective:To investigate the effect of taxifolin added to rabbit semen on freezing-induced cold-shock damages in spermatozoa.Methods:Semen was collected from six adult New Zealand rabbits once a week by artificial vagina.The collected semen was pooled at 38℃ and divided into four equal volumes.They were diluted with 0,50,100 and 200μM taxifolin-containing Tris+egg yolk extender at 38℃ and their temperatures were lowered to 4℃.Following equilibration,semen drawn into 0.25 mL straws were frozen in an automatic semen freezing device and stored in liquid nitrogen container at-196℃.Samples were thawed in 38℃ water for 25 s and the analyses of motility,kinematic parameters,morphological deformities,changes in membrane integrity,mitochondrial membrane potential,dead-live ratio,acrosomal damages and as well as oxidative stress analyses were performed in semen.Results:Addition of 50μM taxifolin significantly improved motility(total,progressive,rapid and static),high mitochondrial membrane potential and the ratios of spermatozoa with acrosomal damage compared to the control group.Compared to the control group,malondialdehyde(MDA)levels in the 50 and 100μM taxifolin groups were significantly lower,while the MDA level was high and viable spermatozoa ratio was low in the 200μM taxifolin group.There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of kinematic parameters,morphological deformities,membrane integrity and antioxidant levels.Conclusions:The low dose of taxifolin(50μM)has a positive effect and the high dose(200μM)has a negative effect.Therefore,it is concluded that the addition of low-dose(50μM)taxifolin to the extenders would be a useful additive in reducing cold-shock damage that occurs during freezing of rabbit semen.Irfan Yılmaz Gaffari Turk Aslıhan Cakir Cihangiroglu Tutku Can Acisu Ibrahim Halil Gungor GozdeArkali Edanur Guler Ekmen 2023Asian pacific Journal of Reproduction2023,12,5:0
