| 9 | Multiple description video coding based on residuum compensation显示文摘As one of the focus areas of robust video coding and transmission, multiple description video coding has attracted comprehensive attention. The low coding efficiency of multiple description video coding is always the major challenge in this field. In order to improve the performance of multiple description video coding, this paper proposes a scheme based on residuum compensation. In this scheme, each original video frame is encoded with a traditional encoder first to get the first description. Then the error residuum of each coded frame is added up to the corresponding original frame and the resulting compensated frame is encoded by another traditional encoder to generate the second description successively. This work uses JM10.0 of H.264/AVC as video coding codec to conduct the experiments. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme has good coding performance. | 19 | Analysis and implementation of cross sync period underwater acoustical positioning techniques for underwater targets显示文摘The sampling rate of an underwater acoustical synchronous positioning system for the track of an underwater target will be decreasing during the process of positioning while the target moves away, resulting in the reduction of raw data and insufficient use of the processing ability of the positioning system. For a long time, this problem has remained unsolved, and it is even pushed forward recently because of the rapid development of modern electronic tech- niques. Based on the thorough study and investigation of the problem, we developed a new synchronous positioning technique called 'Cross Sync Period' underwater acoustical positioning. It can increase the sampling rate of an underwater acoustical positioning system for the track of an underwater target at long range significantly Besides, a new algorithm specially designed for the detection of the propagation time delay of the positioning signals called 'Mod-ulo Algorithm' was also developed, which makes the implementation of the 'cross sync period'underwater acoustical positioning technique easier and more efficient. These techniques have been successfully applied in a real positioning system. The system can position 5 underwater targets at the maximum range of 6 km simultaneously without any ambiguity of target distances with the working period of 0.4 s. | 20 | Electrically programmable phase-change photonic memory for optical neural networks with nanoseconds in situ training capability显示文摘Optical neural networks (ONNs), enabling low latency and high parallel data processing withoutelectromagnetic interference, have become a viable player for fast and energy-efficient processing andcalculation to meet the increasing demand for hash rate. Photonic memories employing nonvolatile phase-change materials could achieve zero static power consumption, low thermal cross talk, large-scale, andhigh-energy-efficient photonic neural networks. Nevertheless, the switching speed and dynamic energyconsumption of phase-change material-based photonic memories make them inapplicable for in situ training.Here, by integrating a patch of phase change thin film with a PIN-diode-embedded microring resonator,a bifunctional photonic memory enabling both 5-bit storage and nanoseconds volatile modulation wasdemonstrated. For the first time, a concept is presented for electrically programmable phase-changematerial-driven photonic memory integrated with nanosecond modulation to allow fast in situ training and zerostatic power consumption data processing in ONNs. ONNs with an optical convolution kernel constructedby our photonic memory theoretically achieved an accuracy of predictions higher than 95% when testedby the MNIST handwritten digit database.
