| 1 | Weakening relationship between East Asian winter monsoon and ENSO after mid-1970s显示文摘The East Asian winter monsoon(EAWM) is characterized by the frequent cold surges and associated closely with the Siberia High,East Asian Trough,and high-level westerly jet stream.The ENSO cycle can modulate the EAWM since it has co-variability with the sea surface temperature over the Indo-Western-Pacific which can tune the land-sea thermal contrast for the EAWM.This paper,by analyzing the EAWM,ENSO,and associated atmosphere-ocean variability,documents the weakening of the EAWMENSO relationship after the 1970s.The significant out-of-phase inter-relationship is found to be diminished after the 1970s.Further study in this work suggests that the weakened co-variability of the tropical Indo-Western-Pacific climate associated with ENSO after the 1970s is partly responsible for the weakened inter-relationship.Meanwhile,the reduced EAWM interannual variability and northward retreat of the EAWM-associated climate variability are favorable to the weakened ENSO-EAWM connection. | WANG HuiJun HE ShengPing | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,27: | 39 |
| 2 | Arctic Sea Ice and Eurasian Climate:A Review显示文摘The Arctic plays a fundamental role in the climate system and has shown significant climate change in recent decades,including the Arctic warming and decline of Arctic sea-ice extent and thickness. In contrast to the Arctic warming and reduction of Arctic sea ice, Europe, East Asia and North America have experienced anomalously cold conditions, with record snowfall during recent years. In this paper, we review current understanding of the sea-ice impacts on the Eurasian climate.Paleo, observational and modelling studies are covered to summarize several major themes, including: the variability of Arctic sea ice and its controls; the likely causes and apparent impacts of the Arctic sea-ice decline during the satellite era,as well as past and projected future impacts and trends; the links and feedback mechanisms between the Arctic sea ice and the Arctic Oscillation/North Atlantic Oscillation, the recent Eurasian cooling, winter atmospheric circulation, summer precipitation in East Asia, spring snowfall over Eurasia, East Asian winter monsoon, and midlatitude extreme weather; and the remote climate response(e.g., atmospheric circulation, air temperature) to changes in Arctic sea ice. | 3 | Reduction of the East Asian winter monsoon interannual variability after the mid-1980s and possible cause显示文摘The East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM) consists of subsystems such as the Siberian high, Aleutian low, East Asian trough, low-level northerly wind and high-level East Asian jet stream. It is revealed that the interannual variation of the EAWM-related atmospheric circulation has exhibited an obvious weakening since the mid-1980s. During 1956-1980, significant negative correlations between the EAWM and sea surface temperature are observed in the oceans along the east coast of East Asia, accompanied by significant positive correlations in the western Warm Pool. However, the significant interannual relationship in the previous period is found to have been disrupted during 1986-2010. Further analysis reveals that the Arctic Oscillation after the mid-1980s tends to suppress the interannual variability of the EAWM. | 4 | Impacts of the Autumn Arctic Sea Ice on the Intraseasonal Reversal of the Winter Siberian High显示文摘During 1979–2015, the intensity of the Siberian high(SH) in November and December–January(DJ) is frequently shown to have an out-of-phase relationship, which is accompanied by opposite surface air temperature and circulation anomalies.Further analyses indicate that the autumn Arctic sea ice is important for the phase reversal of the SH. There is a significantly positive(negative) correlation between the November(DJ) SH and the September sea ice area(SIA) anomalies. It is suggested that the reduction of autumn SIA induces anomalous upward surface turbulent heat flux(SHF), which can persist into November, especially over the Barents Sea. Consequently, the enhanced eddy energy and wave activity flux are transported to mid and high latitudes. This will then benefit the development of the storm track in northeastern Europe. Conversely, when downward SHF anomalies prevail in DJ, the decreased heat flux and suppressed eddy energy hinder the growth of the storm track during DJ over the Barents Sea and Europe. Through the eddy–mean flow interaction, the strengthened(weakened)storm track activities induce decreased(increased) Ural blockings and accelerated(decelerated) westerlies, which makes the cold air from the Arctic inhibited(transported) over the Siberian area. Therefore, a weaker(stronger) SH in November(DJ) occurs downstream. Moreover, anomalously large snowfall may intensify the SH in DJ rather than in November. The ensemble-mean results from the CMIP5 historical simulations further confirm these connections. | 5 | Teleconnection between Sea Ice in the Barents Sea in June and the Silk Road,Pacific–Japan and East Asian Rainfall Patterns in August显示文摘In contrast to previous studies that have tended to focus on the influence of the total Arctic sea-ice cover on the East Asian summer tripole rainfall pattern, the present study identifies the Barents Sea as the key region where the June sea-ice variability exerts the most significant impacts on the East Asian August tripole rainfall pattern, and explores the teleconnection mechanisms involved. The results reveal that a reduction in June sea ice excites anomalous upward air motion due to strong near-surface thermal forcing, which further triggers a meridional overturning wave-like pattern extending to midlatitudes.Anomalous downward motion therefore forms over the Caspian Sea, which in turn induces zonally oriented overturning circulation along the subtropical jet stream, exhibiting the east–west Rossby wave train known as the Silk Road pattern. It is suggested that the Bonin high, a subtropical anticyclone predominant near South Korea, shows a significant anomaly due to the eastward extension of the Silk Road pattern to East Asia. As a possible descending branch of the Hadley cell, the Bonin high anomaly ultimately triggers a meridional overturning, establishing the Pacific–Japan pattern. This in turn induces an anomalous anticyclone and cyclone pair over East Asia, and a tripole vertical convection anomaly meridionally oriented over East Asia. Consequently, a tripole rainfall anomaly pattern is observed over East Asia. | 6 | Variation in Principal Modes of Midsummer Precipitation over Northeast China and Its Associated Atmospheric Circulation显示文摘This study documents the first two principal modes of interannual variability of midsummer precipitation over Northeast China(NEC) and their associated atmospheric circulation anomalies. It is shown that the first principal mode exhibits the largest amount of variability in precipitation over the south of NEC(referred to as the south mode), whereas the second principal mode behaves with the greatest precipitation anomaly over the north of NEC(referred to as the north mode). Further findings reveal that, through modulating moisture transportation and upper-and lower-troposphere divergence circulation as well as vertical movement over NEC, the anomalous northwestern Pacific anticyclone and the anticyclone centered over northern NEC exert the dominant influence on the south and north modes, respectively. Additionally, it is quantitatively estimated that water vapor across the southern boundary of NEC dominates the moisture budget for the south mode, while the north mode has a close connection with moisture through NEC's northern and western boundaries. | 7 | Central role of myeloid MCPIP1 in protecting against LPSinduced inflammation and lung injury显示文摘Although systemic inflammatory responses attributable to infection may lead to significant lung injury,the precise molecular mechanisms leading to lung damage are poorly understood and therapeutic options remain limited.Here,we show that myeloid monocyte chemotactic protein-inducible protein 1(MCPIP1)plays a central role in protecting against LPS-induced inflammation and lung injury.Myeloid-specific MCPIP1 knockout mice developed spontaneous inflammatory syndromes,but at a late age compared to global MCPIP1 knockout mice.Moreover,mice with a myeloid-specific deletion of MCPIP1 were extremely sensitive to LPS-induced lung injury due to overproduction of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines.We identified C/EBPβand C/EBPδ,two critical transcriptional factors that drive cytokine production and lung injury,as targets of MCPIP1 RNase.LPS administration caused MCPIP1 protein degradation in the lungs.Pharmacological inhibition of MALT1,a paracaspase that cleaves MCPIP1,by MI-2 selectively increased the MCPIP1 protein levels in macrophages and in the lungs.Meanwhile,administration of MI-2 protected mice from LPS-induced inflammation,lung injury and death.Collectively,these results indicate that myeloid MCPIP1 is central in controlling LPS-induced inflammation and lung injury.Pharmacological inhibition of MALT1 protease activity may be a good strategy to treat inflammatory diseases by enhancing MCPIP1 expression in myeloid cells. | Yong Li Xuan Huang Shengping Huang Hui He Tianhua Lei Fatma Saaoud Xiao-Qiang Yu Ari Melnick Anil Kumar Christopher J Papasian Daping Fan Mingui Fu | 2017 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2017,2,1: | 2 |
| 8 | Protective immunity of orange-spotted grouper(Epinephelus coioids) against a nervous necrosis virus isolated from China,and determination of the complete sequences of the virus显示文摘On the basis of the sequence and analysis of genome from the orange-spotted nervous necrosis virus(OGNNV), China strain, a pair of special primers were designed according to the nucleotide sequences of RNA2 from OGNNV. The major capsid protein(MCP)gene of OGNNV was cloned by means of reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)and ligated into the pET32a expression plasmid. The MCP gene of OGNNV was 1 017 bases, encoded a protein of 338 amino acid with a molecular mass of 37.1 kDa. Recombinant protein with a molecular mass of 57.4 kDa was expressed in E.coli BL21(DE3). Vaccine was prepared from the recombinant protein expressed in recombinant cells. The juvenile orange-spotted groupers (8 cm in average length) were immunized by intraperitoneal injection. Group A was challenged with infected tissue filtrates 25 d post-vaccination. The mortality in the vaccined group (A1, 30%) was a little higher than the unvaccined group (B2, 27.8%). Group B was challenged after three vaccine injections. The mortality in the vaccined group (B1, 16.7%) was lower than the unvaccined group (B2, 27.8%), And the relative percentage survival (RPS) value of vaccined group, compared with the unvaccined group, was 40%. The anti-recombinant protein sera with a 1∶100 dilution were mixed with double volume of infected tissue filtrates and incubated at 4 ℃ for 12 h and then intramuscularly injected into the juvenile orange-spotted grouper. Treatment of infected tissue filtrates with anti-recombinant protein serum resulted in a significantly lower mortality of fish (Group C1, mortality of 18.18%), compared with the fish (Group C2, mortality of 40%) which received infected tissue filtrates treated with control serum. | 9 | Connection between the Silk Road Pattern in July and the Following January Temperature over East Asia显示文摘This study investigates a cross-seasonal influence of the Silk Road Pattern(SRP)in July and discusses the related mechanism.Both the reanalysis and observational datasets indicate that the July SRP is closely related to the following January temperature over East Asia during 1958/59–2001/02.Linear regression results reveal that,following a higher-than-normal SRP index in July,the Siberian high,Aleutian low,Urals high,East Asian trough,and meridional shear of the East Asian jet intensify significantly in January.Such atmospheric circulation anomalies are favorable for northerly wind anomalies over East Asia,leading to more southward advection of cold air and causing a decrease in temperature.Further analysis indicates that the North Pacific sea surface temperature anomalies(SSTAs)might play a critical role in storing the anomalous signal of the July SRP.The significant SSTAs related to the July SRP weaken in October and November,re-emerge in December,and strengthen in the following January.Such an SSTA pattern in January can induce a surface anomalous cyclone over North Pacific and lead to dominant convergence anomalies over northwestern Pacific.Correspondingly,significant divergence anomalies appear,collocated in the upper-level troposphere in situ.Due to the advection of vorticity by divergent wind,which can be regarded as a wave source,a stationary Rossby wave originates from North Pacific and propagates eastward to East Asia,leading to temperature anomalies through its influence on the large-scale atmospheric circulation. | Shengping HE Yang LIU Huijun WANG | 2017 | Journal of Meteorological Research2017,31,2: | 2 |
| 10 | Tandem Biocatalysis by CotA-TJ102@UIO-66-NH2 and Novozym 435 for Highly Selective Transformation of HMF into FDCA显示文摘2,5-Furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is a potential biorenewable chemical for applications including plastics, polyamides, drugs, etc. The selective biosynthesis of FDCA from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) by a speci c enzyme poses a great challenge. In this study, we reported an e cient strategy to produce FDCA from HMF by the tandem biocatalysis of laccase (CotA-TJ102@UIO-66-NH 2 ) and Novozym 435. For the rst step, a nanoparticle metal organic framework was synthesized as a carrier to immobilize CotA-TJ102@UIO-66-NH 2 , which was assigned for the production of 5-formyl-2-furancarboxylic acid (FFCA) and featured an enzyme loading of 255.54 mg/g, speci c activity of 135.90 U/mg, and solid loading ratio of 99.65%. Under optimal conditions, an ideal FFCA yield of 98.5% was achieved, and the CotA-TJ102@UIO-66-NH2 pre- sented a high recycling capacity after 10 cycles. For the second step, Novozym 435 was applied for the further conversion of FFCA into FDCA, presenting a high FDCA yield of 95.5% under the optimized conditions. Novozym 435 also exhibited a high recyclability after eight cycles. | 18 | A de novo missense mutation in MPP2 confers an increased risk of Vogt–Koyanagi–Harada disease as shown by trio-based whole-exome sequencing显示文摘Vogt–Koyanagi–Harada(VKH)disease is a leading cause of blindness in young and middle-aged people.However,the etiology of VKH disease remains unclear.Here,we performed the first trio-based whole-exome sequencing study,which enrolled 25 VKH patients and 50 controls,followed by a study of 2081 VKH patients from a Han Chinese population to uncover detrimental mutations.A total of 15 de novo mutations in VKH patients were identified,with one of the most important being the membrane palmitoylated protein 2(MPP2)p.K315N(MPP2-N315)mutation.The MPP2-N315 mutation was highly deleterious according to bioinformatic predictions.Additionally,this mutation appears rare,being absent from the 1000 Genome Project and Genome Aggregation Database,and it is highly conserved in 10 species,including humans and mice.Subsequent studies showed that pathological phenotypes and retinal vascular leakage were aggravated in MPP2-N315 mutation knock-in or MPP2-N315 adeno-associated virus-treated mice with experimental autoimmune uveitis(EAU).In vitro,we used clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR‒Cas9)gene editing technology to delete intrinsic MPP2 before overexpressing wild-type MPP2 or MPP2-N315.Levels of cytokines,such as IL-1β,IL-17E,and vascular endothelial growth factor A,were increased,and barrier function was destroyed in the MPP2-N315 mutant ARPE19 cells.Mechanistically,the MPP2-N315 mutation had a stronger ability to directly bind to ANXA2 than MPP2-K315,as shown by LC‒MS/MS and Co-IP,and resulted in activation of the ERK3/IL-17E pathway.Overall,our results demonstrated that the MPP2-K315N mutation may increase susceptibility to VKH disease. | Xianyang Liu Jiayu Meng Xingyun Liao Yusen Liu Qian Zhou Zongren Xu Shuming Yin Qingfeng Cao Guannan Su Siyuan He Wanqian Li Xiaotang Wang Guoqing Wang Dali Li Peizeng Yang Shengping Hou | 2023 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2023,20,11: | 0 |
| 19 | Is It Easy to Recognize Baby's Age and Gender?显示文摘Face analysis tasks,e.g.,estimating gender or age from a face image,have been attracting increasing interest in recent years.However,most existing studies focus mainly on analyzing an adult's face and ignore an interesting question:is it easy to estimate gender and age from a baby's face?In this paper,we explore this interesting problem.We first collect a new face image dataset for our research,named BabyFace,which contains 15528 images from 5872 babies younger than two years old.Besides gender,each face image is annotated with age in months from 0 to 24.In addition,we propose new age estimation and gender recognition methods.In particular,based on SSR-Net backbone,we introduce the attention mechanism module to solve the age estimation problem on the BabyFace dataset,named SSR-SE.In the part of gender recognition,inspired by the age estimation method,we also use a two-stream structure,named Two-Steam SE-block with Augment(TSSEAug).We extensively evaluate the performance of the proposed methods against the state-of-the-art methods on BabyFace.Our age estimation model achieves very appealing performance with an estimation error of less than two months.The proposed gender recognition method obtains the best accuracy among all compared methods.To the best of our knowledge,we are the first to study age estimation and gender recognition from a baby's face image,which is complementary to existing adult gender and age estimation methods and can shed some light on exploring baby face analysis. | Yang Liu Ruili He Xiaoqian Lv Wei Wang Xin Sun Shengping Zhang | 2021 | Journal of Computer Science & Technology2021,36,3: | 0 |
| 20 | An evaluation of safety and survival for patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer treated with irreversible electroporation combined with chemotherapy:a retrospectively observational study显示文摘Objective:lreversible electroporation(IRE)is emerging as a new therapy for locally advanced pancreatic cancer(LAPC).We aimed to conduct survival and safety analyses in L APC patients after treatment with IRE combined with chemotherapy.Methods:A total of 64 patients with LAPC who had received IRE and chemotherapy were retrospectively collected from August 2015 to March 2019 at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center.Overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS)were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier method and compared by the log-rank test.A multivariate Cox regression model was used to determine the prognostic factors of survival.The perioperative complications of IRE were also evaluated.The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center(approval No.C2021-003).Results:The median survival of all included patients were 24.63(95%confidence interval:21.78-27.49)for overall survival and 13.00(95%confidence inteval:8.81-17.19)months for progression-free survival,with 96.8%,51.9%,18.3%;and 52.3%,21.5%,7.9%as the 1-,2-and 3-year OS and PFS rates,respectively.Tumor size[OS,hazard ratio(HR)=1.768,P=0.048;PFS,HR=0.304,P=0.010],neoadjuvant chemotherapy(OS,HR=0338,P=0.030;PFS,HR=0.358,P=0.034),carbohydrate antigen 19-9 variation after IRE(OS,HR=19.320,P=0.003;PFS,HR=14.591,P=0.021)and tumor response after neoadjuvant chemotherapy(OS,HR-8.779,P=0.033;PFS,HR-5.562,P=0.008)were predictive factors of survival in patients with LAPC after IRE.Complications were observed in 20.3%of patients.Grade B pancreatic fistula was the most common complication.The complication rates of the late treatment group(6.1%)were significantly lower than those of the first 15 patients after IRE treatment(66.7%).The median length of hospital stay of late treatment group was 8.6days,which was also shorter than that of the early treatment group(10.0days).Conclusions:IRE combined with chemotherapy could improve survival of LAPC patients with acceptable complication rates.Therefore,it may be a suitable method for LAPC but should be validated in prospective randomized trials. | Chaobin He Jun Wang Yize Mao Xiangming Lao Shengping Li | 2022 | Journal of Pancreatology2022,5,1: | 0 |
