1Edge Computing-Based Joint Client Selection and Networking Scheme for Federated Learning in Vehicular IoT显示文摘In order to support advanced vehicular Internet-of-Things(IoT)applications,information exchanges among different vehicles are required to find efficient solutions for catering to different application requirements in complex and dynamic vehicular environments.Federated learning(FL),which is a type of distributed learning technology,has been attracting great interest in recent years as it performs knowledge exchange among different network entities without a violation of user privacy.However,client selection and networking scheme for enabling FL in dynamic vehicular environments,which determines the communication delay between FL clients and the central server that aggregates the models received from the clients,is still under-explored.In this paper,we propose an edge computing-based joint client selection and networking scheme for vehicular IoT.The proposed scheme assigns some vehicles as edge vehicles by employing a distributed approach,and uses the edge vehicles as FL clients to conduct the training of local models,which learns optimal behaviors based on the interaction with environments.The clients also work as forwarder nodes in information sharing among network entities.The client selection takes into account the vehicle velocity,vehicle distribution,and the wireless link connectivity between vehicles using a fuzzy logic algorithm,resulting in an efficient learning and networking architecture.We use computer simulations to evaluate the proposed scheme in terms of the communication overhead and the information covered in learning.Wugedele Bao Celimuge Wu Siri Guleng Jiefang Zhang Kok-Lim Alvin Yau Yusheng Ji 2021China Communications2021,18,6:3
2Mindin is upregulated during colitis and may activate NF-κB in a TLR-9 mediated manner显示文摘AIM:To investigate the regulation of mindin expression and the signaling pathway involved during inflammation.METHODS:C57BL/6 mice were treated with 3% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in drinking water for 6 d to induce acute colitis,and then the colon was harvested for histological analysis or for RNA isolation.mRNA expression of mindin and nuclear factor (NF)-κB p65 was analyzed by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and mindin expression construct was conf irmed by Western blotting.Mouse macrophage and intestinal epithelial lineage cells were stimulated with different cytokines and toll-like receptor (TLR) ligands,before pNF-κB-luciferase activity was assessed using the Dual-Luciferase reporter assay system.RESULTS:mRNA expression of mindin was upregulated 4.7 ± 1.1 fold compared with the baseline during DSS-induced intestinal inflammation in the mice.Stimulation with CpG-ODN (a known TLR-9 ligand) induced 4.2 ± 0.3 fold upregulation of mindin expression in RAW 264.7 cells.Full-length of mindin was cloned from cDNA of mouse mesenteric lymph node,then the pCMV-Mindin-Flag expression vector was established and the protein expression level was confi rmed.Transfection of the mindin construct and stimulation with CpG-ODN signifi cantly increased the NF-κB-luciferase activity by 2.5 ± 0.3 and 4.5 ± 0.5 fold in RAW264.7 and CMT93 cells,respectively (P < 0.01).CONCLUSION:Mindin expression is upregulated during intestinal inflammation and may induce NF-κB promoter activation in a TLR-9 mediated manner.Bayasi Guleng 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,9:3
3Vancomycin-induced thrombocytopenia in endocarditis:A case report and review of literature显示文摘BACKGROUND Thrombocytopenia is a serious complication in the medical practice of numerous drugs.Vancomycin is frequently used for the prophylaxis and treatment of suspected or identified methicillin-resistant positive infections.Several cases with vancomycin-induced thrombocytopenia(VIT)have been reported.However,these have rarely been extensively reviewed.The present report describes a case of VIT in endocarditis,and reviews all VIT cases reported in the literature.CASE SUMMARY A 26-year-old male diagnosed with infective endocarditis was admitted.The patient was treated with multiple drugs,including vancomycin,which was initially intravenously given at 1000 mg every 12 h and subsequently at 500 mg every 8 h on day 3.On day 11,the platelet count decreased to 51×10^(9)/L,vancomycin was switched to 500 mg every 12 h,and platelet transfusion was given.On day 17,the platelet count dropped to 27×10^(9)/L,and platelet transfusion was administered again.On day 23,vancomycin was adjusted to 500 mg every 8 h as the trough concentration dropped to the minimum effective concentration.On day 33,the platelet count declined to approximately 40×10^(9)/L.After platelet transfusion,the platelet count rebounded to 90×10^(9)/L on day 35 but dropped again to 42×10^(9)/L on day 43.Based on the time-to-platelet count curve and Naranjo’s Adverse Drug Reaction Probability Scale score,VIT was suspected.After vancomycin discontinuation and platelet transfusion,the platelet count gradually normalized.CONCLUSION The diagnosis of VIT can be achieved through the time-to-platelet count curve and Naranjo’s Adverse Drug Reaction Probability Scale score.The platelet count cannot be normalized simply by platelet transfusion alone,and vancomycin discontinuation is essential.Si-Ri Guleng Ri-Han Wu Xiao-Bin Guo 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,7:2
4Cancer-derived VEGF plays no role in malignant ascites formation in the mouse显示文摘AIM: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent mediator of peritoneal fluid accumulation following tumor progression. This study investigated the role of VEGF secreted by cancerous cells in the formation of malignant ascites.METHODS: VEGF expression was eliminated byknockdown in the pancreas cancer cell-line PancO2 using vector-based short-hairpin type RNA interference (RNAi).Malignant ascites formation in the mouse was analyzed by intraperitoneal injection of PancO2 cells expressing VEGF or with expression knockdown.RESULTS: The VEGF knockdown PancO2 cell was successfully established. Knockdown of VEGF did not affect cancer cell proliferation in vitro or in vivo. The volume of ascites following peritoneal expansion of the tumor in VEGF knockdown cells and control cells did not differ statistically in this in vivo study. Moreover, the VEGF concentration in the ascites did not differ statistically.CONCLUSION: Malignant ascites formation might be mediated by VEGF production in noncancerous tissues,such as stromal compartments. 5Artifi cial liver support system in treatment of liverfailure after acute poisoning显示文摘BACKGROUND: Acute poisoning (AP) may cause failure of the liver and kidney, and evendeath. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of artificial liver support system (ALSS) on thetreatment of liver failure after acute poisoning.METHODS: A total of 31 patients with liver failure caused by AP were admitted to emergency ICU,central ICU, and Department of Gastroenterology from 2005 to 2009 in Zhongshan Hospital Affi liatedto Xiamen University, China. Among them, 13 patients served as a treatment group, and used ALSS inaddition to detoxifi cation treatment and protective treatment of liver function, and the other 18 patientsserved as a control group receiving detoxifi cation treatment and protective treatment of liver function.RESULTS: In the treatment group, 10 patients (76.9%) were cured or improved, 2 died, and1 was discharged against advice. In the 18 patients in the control group, 7 (38.9%) were cured orimproved, 3 died, and 8 were discharged against advice.
