1Essential oil content and composition of Indian sandalwood (Santalum album) in Sri Lanka显示文摘Santalum album (Indian Sandalwood) is found in the mountainous regions of the intermediate zone of Sri Lanka. Few studies have been conducted on sandalwood ecology in this region, and ours is the first recorded study of essential oil content and chemical composition of heartwood. We harvested two trees with State permission and took crosssections for analysis. We demonstrated a difference in the heartwood formation and oil yield of the trees. The composition of the oil was found to be consistent between trees and along the trunk of the tree. Main aromatic compounds were santalols and other compounds are recorded in lesser quantities. Results of this study comply with the other published work on sandalwood elsewhere. This initial study on S. album in Sri Lanka provided promising results for the future of sandalwood agro- forestry.Upul Subasinghe Manuri Gamage D.S. 2Streptomyces septatus磷脂酶D在毕赤酵母中的重组表达及酶学性质分析显示文摘以Streptomyces septatus TCCC 21057基因组为模板,扩增得到磷脂酶D(phospholipase D,PLD)基因(pld),经合成获得pld密码子优化基因(pldm),以pPIC9K为表达载体,毕赤酵母(Pichia pastoris)GS115为宿主菌株,构建获得毕赤酵母重组菌株GS115/pPIC9K-pldm,摇瓶发酵后获得的重组PLD(rPLDM)转酯活力达2.37 U/mL;rPLDM经纯化后进行转酯酶学性质分析,其最适作用温度为60℃,最适作用pH值为6.5;在单水相反应体系中,40℃、pH 6.5、Ca2+浓度10 mmol/L、大豆磷脂酰胆碱和L-丝氨酸物质的量比1∶10、rPLDM添加4.0 U/mL,反应6 h后,磷脂酰丝氨酸(phosphatidylserine,PS)的产率可达到33%。本研究通过对rPLDM的重组表达、转酯酶学性质及催化合成PS的研究,为进一步实现酶法合成新资源食品PS奠定了基础。黄琳 马杰莹 王爽 王楠 MORADANA GAMAGE Rasadi Sajeewa Rajakaruna 路福平 刘逸寒 2020食品科学2020,41,8:6
3Prioritization of orphan disease-causing genes using topological feature and GO similarity between proteins in interaction networks显示文摘Identification of disease-causing genes among a large number of candidates is a fundamental challenge in human disease studies.However,it is still time-consuming and laborious to determine the real disease-causing genes by biological experiments.With the advances of the high-throughput techniques,a large number of protein-protein interactions have been produced.Therefore,to address this issue,several methods based on protein interaction network have been proposed.In this paper,we propose a shortest path-based algorithm,named SPranker,to prioritize disease-causing genes in protein interaction networks.Considering the fact that diseases with similar phenotypes are generally caused by functionally related genes,we further propose an improved algorithm SPGOranker by integrating the semantic similarity of gene ontology(GO)annotations.SPGOranker not only considers the topological similarity between protein pairs in a protein interaction network but also takes their functional similarity into account.The proposed algorithms SPranker and SPGOranker were applied to 1598 known orphan disease-causing genes from 172 orphan diseases and compared with three state-of-the-art approaches,ICN,VS and RWR.The experimental results show that SPranker and SPGOranker outperform ICN,VS,and RWR for the prioritization of orphan disease-causing genes.Importantly,for the case study of severe combined immunodeficiency,SPranker and SPGOranker predict several novel causal genes.LI Min LI Qi GANEGODA Gamage Upeksha WANG JianXin WU FangXiang PAN Yi 2014Science China(Life Sciences)2014,57,11:6
4Effect of sample size on the fluid flow through a single fractured granitoid显示文摘Most of deep geological engineered structures,such as rock caverns,nuclear waste disposal repositories,metro rail tunnels,multi-layer underground parking,are constructed within hard crystalline rocks because of their high quality and low matrix permeability.In such rocks,fluid flows mainly through fractures.Quantification of fractures along with the behavior of the fluid flow through them,at different scales,becomes quite important.Earlier studies have revealed the influence of sample size on the confining stress-permeability relationship and it has been demonstrated that permeability of the fractured rock mass decreases with an increase in sample size.However,most of the researchers have employed numerical simulations to model fluid flow through the fracture/fracture network,or laboratory investigations on intact rock samples with diameter ranging between 38 mm and 45 cm and the diameter-to-length ratio of 1:2 using different experimental methods.Also,the confining stress,σ_3,has been considered to be less than 30 MPa and the effect of fracture roughness has been ignored.In the present study,an extension of the previous studies on 'laboratory simulation of flow through single fractured granite' was conducted,in which consistent fluid flow experiments were performed on cylindrical samples of granitoids of two different sizes(38 mm and 54 mm in diameters),containing a 'rough walled single fracture'.These experiments were performed under varied confining pressure(σ_3=5-40 MPa),fluid pressure(f_p ≤25 MPa),and fracture roughness.The results indicate that a nonlinear relationship exists between the discharge,Q,and the effective confining pressure,σ_(eff),and Q decreases with an increase in σ_(eff).Also,the effects of sample size and fracture roughness do not persist when σ_(eff)≥ 20 MPa.It is expected that such a study will be quite useful in correlating and extrapolating the laboratory scale investigations to in-situ scale and further improving theoretical/numerical models associated with fluid flow through rock masses.Kunal Kumar Singh Devendra Narain Singh Ranjith Pathegama Gamage 2016Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,3:5
5Nanoscopy reveals surface-metallic black phosphorus显示文摘Black phosphorus(BP)is an emerging two-dimensional material with intriguing physical properties.It is highly anisotropic and highly tunable by means of both the number of monolayers and surface doping.Here,we experimentally investigate and theoretically interpret the near-field properties of a-few-atomic-monolayer nanoflakes of BP.We discover near-field patterns of bright outside fringes and a high surface polarizability of nanofilm BP consistent with its surface-metallic,plasmonic behavior at mid-infrared frequencies o1176 cm−1.We conclude that these fringes are caused by the formation of a highly polarizable layer at the BP surface.This layer has a thickness of~1 nm and exhibits plasmonic behavior.We estimate that it contains free carriers in a concentration of n≈1.1×10^(20) cm^(−3).Surface plasmonic behavior is observed for 10–40 nm BP thicknesses but absent for a 4-nm BP thickness.This discovery opens up a new field of research and potential applications in nanoelectronics,plasmonics and optoelectronics.Yohannes Abate Sampath Gamage Zhen Li Viktoriia Babicheva Mohammad H Javani Han Wang Stephen B Cronin Mark I Stockman 2016Light(Science & Applications)2016,5,1:2
6用于手部运动功能康复的纤维强化型并联腔道式软体驱动器设计显示文摘为解决当前单一的弯曲/伸展辅助运动的软体康复手套不能提供手部完整的运动动作支持,对脑卒中后肌张力异常导致的手部运动障碍康复效果欠佳,设计了一种新的纤维强化并联腔道式软体驱动器(SPA)结构,该结构能够在三路组合压力驱动下实现三维方向致动,实现对手部伸展/弯曲、外展/内收、对掌/复位及其复合动作的支持。通过对手部基本动作元的分析,设计了新的驱动器结构,利用有限元工具对设计参数进行了验证,并建立了运动学描述模型;给出了新驱动器的制备方法,并对制备的新驱动器进行了加载测试和软体康复手套样机操作测试。测试结果表明,所设计的驱动器能够实现复合运动模式下的多指协同动作,支持手部运动多模式的辅助康复,并显著提升患者手部敏捷交互操作能力。邓豪 Dannangoda Gamage Kanishka Madusanka 熊璟 夏泽洋 2021高技术通讯2021,31,3:2
