| 2 | The blood–brain barrier in systemic infection and inflammation显示文摘The vascular blood-brain barrier is a highly regulated interface between the blood and brain.Its primary function is to protect central neurons while signaling the presence of systemic inflammation and infection to the brain to enable a protective sickness behavior response.With increasing degrees and duration of systemic inflammation,the vascular blood-brain barrier becomes more permeable to solutes,undergoes an increase in lymphocyte trafficking,and is infiltrated by innate immune cells;endothelial cell damage may occasionally occur.Perturbation of neuronal function results in the clinical features of encephalopathy.Here,the molecular and cellular anatomy of the vascular blood-brain barrier is reviewed,first in a healthy context and second in a systemic inflammatory context.Distinct from the molecular and cellular mediators of the blood-brain barrier’s response to inflammation,several moderators influence the direction and magnitude at genetic,system,cellular and molecular levels.These include sex,genetic background,age,pre-existing brain pathology,systemic comorbidity,and gut dysbiosis.Further progress is required to define and measure mediators and moderators of the blood-brain barrier’s response to systemic inflammation in order to explain the heterogeneity observed in animal and human studies. | Ian Galea | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021，18，11： | 9 |

| 5 | Detection of low energy solar neutrinos by a two-phase cryogenic e-bubble detector显示文摘A new two-phase cryogenic neutrino detector using electron bubble (e-bubble) specifically in liquid helium is proposed and being developed for real time, high rate measurements of low-energy p-p reac- tion neutrinos from the sun. The e-bubble detector is a time projection chamber-like (TPC) tracking detector. The task of such a neutrino detector is to detect the ionization of the elastically scattered target electrons by incident neutrinos, and then to characterize their energy and direction and to dis- tinguish them from radioactive backgrounds. The ionization signals are expected to be small and hence undergo avalanche amplification in the saturated vapor above the liquid phase by gas electron multi- pliers (GEMs) at high gain. Higher granularity and intrinsically suppressed ion feedback give a good spatial resolution and are the major advantages of this technology. It should be possible to construct such a detector to track charged particles down to 100―200 keV in a massive liquid helium target with fractional millimeter spatial resolution in three-dimensional space, using the GEM-based TPC with a high-resolution CCD camera, for both the electronic and light readout. | JU YongLin GU Yan J. | 7 | The Influence of Biochar on Growth of Lettuce and Potato显示文摘Pot experiments were conducted in a glasshouse to determine the growth pattern of lettuce, true potato seedlings(TPS) and single node cuttings of TPS in response to biochar. The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with 5 treatments(0, 10, 30, 50 and 100 t ha-1) of biochar from greenwaste with 5 replications in lettuce, 10 in TPS and 5 in single node cuttings of TPS. The observations recorded on growth parameters showed that biochar had significant effect on growth of lettuce but no consistent effect on growth of TPS and single node cuttings. Among the biochar rates, 30 t ha-1 had the greatest influence on overall growth of lettuce. The pH and electrical conductivity increased as the biochar rates increased in all experiments. These results provide an avenue for soil management system by using biochar as an amendment in horticultural crops.
