| 1 | Identification of a Stable Quantitative Trait Locus for Percentage Grains with White Chalkiness in Rice (Oryza sativa)显示文摘High chalkiness is a major problem in many rice-producing areas of the world, especially in hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L.) in China. We previously showed a major quantitative trait locus for the percentage of grains with white chalkiness (QTLqPGWC-8) in the interval G1149-R727 on chromosome 8 using a chromosome segment substitution line (CSSL). Here, we selected the line-CSSL50 harboring the QTLqPGWC-8 allele from the CSSLs derived from a cross between Asominori (as a recurrent parent) and IR24 (as a donor parent), which had higher percentage chalkiness, markedly different from that of Asominori. There were also significant differences in starch granules, appearance of amylose content (AAC) and milling qualities between Asominori and CSSL50, but not in grain size or thousand grain weight (TGW). The BC4F2 and BC4F3 populations from a cross between CSSL50 and Asominori were used for fine mapping of qPGWC-8. We narrowed down the location of this QTL to a 142 kb region between Indel markers 8G-7 and 8G-9. QTLqPGWC-8 accounted for 50.9% of the difference in PGWC between the parents. | 2 | Quantitatively distinguishing sediments from the Yangtze River and the Yellow River using δEu_N-ΣREEs plot显示文摘Sediment samples were collected from the lower channel of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River and the contents of rare earth elements (REEs) were measured. In addition, some historical REEs data were collected from published literatures. Based on the δEuN-ΣREEs plot, a clear boundary was found be-tween the sediments from the two rivers. The boundary can be described as an orthogonal polynomial equation by ordinary linear regression with sediments from the Yangtze River located above the curve and sediments from the Yellow River located below the curve. To validate this method, the REEs con-tents of sediments collected from the estuaries of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River were meas-ured. In addition, the REEs data of sediment Core 255 from the Yangtze River and Core YA01 from the Yellow River were collected. Results show that the samples from the Yangtze River estuary and Core 255 almost are above the curve and most samples from the Yellow River estuary and Core YA01 are below the curve in the δEuN-ΣREEs plot. The plot and the regression equation can be used to distin-guish sediments from the Yangtze River and the Yellow River intuitively and quantitatively, and to trace the sediment provenance of the eastern seas of China. The difference between the sediments from two rivers in the δEuN-ΣREEs plot is caused by different mineral compositions and regional climate patterns of the source areas. The relationship between δEuN and ΣREEs is changed little during the transport from the source area to the river, and from river to the sea. | 3 | Geochemical character and material source of sediments in the eastern Philippine Sea显示文摘Based upon analyses of grain-size, rare earth element (REE) compositions, elemental occurrence phases of REE, and U-series isotopic dating, the sediment characteristics and material sources of the study area were examined for the recently formed deep-sea clays in the eastern Philippine Sea. The analytical results are summarized as follows. (1) Low accumulation rate, poor sorting and roundness, and high contents of grains coarser than fine silt indicate relatively low sediment input, with localized material source without long distance transport. (2) The REE Contents are relatively high. Shale-normalized patterns of REE indicate weak enrichment in heavy REE (HREE), Ce-passive anomaly, and Eu-positive anomaly. (3) Elemental occurrence phases of REE between the sediments with and without crust are similar. REE mainly concentrate in residual phase and then in ferromanganese oxide phase. The light REE (LREE) enrichment, Ce-positive anomaly, and Eu-positive anomaly occur in re- sidual phase. Ferromanganese oxide phase shows the characteristics of relatively high HREE content and Ce-passive anomaly. (4) There are differences in each above mentioned aspect between the sedi- ments with and without ferromanganese crust. (5) Synthesizing the above characteristics and source discriminant analysis, the study sediments are deduced to mainly result from the alteration of local and nearby volcanic materials. | 4 | Geochemistry of rare earth elements in the mid-late Quaternary sediments of the western Philippine Sea and their paleoenvironmental significance显示文摘Based on a δ18O chronology,rare earth elements(REE) and other typical elements in sediments from core MD06-3047 in the western Philippine Sea were analyzed to constrain the provenances of the sediments and investigate quantitative changes in the Asian eolian input to the study area over the last 700 ka.Among the competing processes that might affect REE compositions,sediment provenance is the most important one.Provenance analysis suggests that the study sediments have two provenance end-members;local volcanic sources are dominant,and eolian dust from the Asian continent has a smaller contribution.During glacial periods,eolian input to the western Philippine Sea was enhanced.In contrast,material supply from local volcanics increased during interglacial periods.Changes in eolian input to the study area were probably related to the strength of the East Asian winter monsoon(EAWM) as well as aridity in the Asian continent on an orbital time scale,and were partly influenced by local control factors on shorter time scales.Therefore,we propose that the present study expands the application of the REE-based method for quantitatively estimating the eolian component from the mid-latitude northern Pacific to the low-latitude western Pacific.Additionally,the study preliminarily confirms the influence of EAWM-transported eolian material on sedimentation in the western Philippine Sea since 700 ka. | XU ZhaoKai LI TieGang WAN ShiMing YIN XueBo JIANG FuQing SUN HanJie JinYong CHOI DhongIl LIM | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,4: | 10 |
| 5 | Construction of a sustainable 3-hydroxybutyrate-producing probiotic Escherichia coli for treatment of colitis显示文摘Colitis is a common disease of the colon that is very difficult to treat.Probiotic bacteria could be an effective treatment.The probiotic Escherichia coli Nissle 1917(EcN)was engineered to synthesize the ketone body(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate(3HB)for sustainable production in the gut lumen of mice suffering from colitis.Components of heterologous 3HB synthesis routes were constructed,expressed,optimized,and inserted into the EcN genome,combined with deletions in competitive branch pathways.The genome-engineered EcN produced the highest 3HB level of 0.6 g/L under microaerobic conditions.The live therapeutic was found to colonize the mouse gastrointestinal tract over 14 days,elevating gut 3HB and short-chain-length fatty acid(SCFA)levels 8.7-and 3.1-fold compared to those of wild-type EcN,respectively.The sustainable presence of 3HB in mouse guts promoted the growth of probiotic bacteria,especially Akkermansia spp.,to over 31%from the initial 2%of all the microbiome.As a result,the engineered EcN termed EcNL4 ameliorated colitis induced via dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)in mice.Compared to wild-type EcN or oral administration of 3HB,oral EcNL4 uptake demonstrated better effects on mouse weights,colon lengths,occult blood levels,gut tissue myeloperoxidase activity and proinflammatory cytokine concentrations.Thus,a promising live bacterium was developed to improve colonic microenvironments and further treat colitis.This proof-of-concept design can be employed to treat other diseases of the colon. | Xu Yan Xin-Yi Liu Dian Zhang Yu-Dian Zhang Zi-Hua Li Xu Liu Fuqing Wu Guo-Qiang Chen | 2021 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2021,18,10: | 8 |

| 7 | Sedimentation rates and provenance analysis in the Southwestern Okinawa Trough since the mid-Holocene显示文摘As a high-sedimentation rate depocenter along the path of the Kuroshio Current, the southwesternmost part of the Okinawa Trough is a key area to understand the Kuroshio history and sediments transpor-tation. A 34.17-m-long sediment core was obtained by the advanced piston corer of Marco Polo/IMAGES XII MARION DUFRESNE during the May 2005 from the Southern Okinawa Trough at site MD05-2908. The recovered sediments were analyzed by AMS 14C dating, coarse size fraction (>63 μm) extraction and moisture content determination in order to study its sedimentation flux and provenance. The depth-age relationship of core MD05-2908 was well constrained by 17 14C dating points. The sediments span across the mid-Holocene (6.8 ka B.P.) and have remarkablely high sedimentation rates between 1.8 and 21.2 m ka?1, which is well consistent with the modern observations from sediment traps. We identified five 70―200 a periods of abnormally rapid sedimentation events at 6790―6600 a B.P., 5690―5600 a B.P., 4820―4720 a B.P., 1090―880 a B.P., and 260―190 a B.P., during which the highest sedimentation rate is up to 21.2 m/ka. In general, the lithology of the sediments were dominated by silt and clay, associated with less than 5% coarse size fraction (>63 μm). As the most significant sediment source, the Lanyang River in northeastern Taiwan annually deliver about 10Mt materials to the coastal and offshore region of northeast Taiwan, a portion of which could be carried northward by currents toward the study area. Therefore, we concluded that the 5 abnormally rapid sedimentation events may be related to intensified rainfall in Taiwan and thus increased materials to our study area at that time. However, a few extreme-rapid sedimentation events cannot be explained by normal river runoff alone. | 9 | Microstructure and properties of novel Al-Ce-Sc,Al-Ce-Y,Al-Ce-Zr and Al-Ce-Sc-Y alloy conductors processed by die casting,hot extrusion and cold drawing显示文摘In order to overcome the trade-off between the strength and electrical conductivity of aluminum alloy conductors,the new Al-Ce-Sc,Al-Ce-Y,Al-Ce-Zr and Al-Ce-Sc-Y alloys were prepared by die casting,high temperature homogenization treatment,hot extrusion and cold drawing.Adding Sc and Y eliminated the dendrite segregation of the as-cast Al-0.2 Ce alloy and promoted the formation of equiaxed grains with the average grain size of 142.5μm.The Al-0.2 Ce-0.2 Sc-0.1 Y alloy inherited the great tensile properties of Al-0.2 Ce-0.2 Sc alloy and the high electrical conductivity of Al-0.2 Ce-0.1 Y alloy simultaneously.After cold drawing and annealing at 200℃for 5 h,the ultimate tensile strength of Al-0.2 Ce-0.2 Sc-0.1 Y alloy reached 200 MPa and 198 MPa,the elongation reached 6.8%and 8.5%,and the electrical conductivity reached 61.01%and 61.77%,respectively.The main second phase of Al-0.2 Ce-0.2 Sc-0.1 Y alloy after hot extrusion were Al_(13)Fe_3 Ce containing a few Y and Si atoms.The larger size and proportion of the second phase greatly reduced the concentration of solute Fe and Si atoms and the addition of Y significantly decreased the density of defects after cold drawing compared to Al-0.2 Ce-0.2 Sc alloy,which improved electrical conductivity of the alloy.Furthermore,the dispersed and coherent nano-size Al_3 Sc precipitions of Al-0.2 Ce-0.2 Sc-0.1 Y alloy greatly improved strength,elongation and heat resistance.Compared with Al-0.2 Ce-0.2 Sc alloy,the lower density of dislocation,stacking fault and subgrain boundary and the larger size of Al_3 Sc precipitions with enrichment of Y atoms enable the Al-0.2 Ce-0.2 Sc-0.1 Y alloy to maintain high strength,elongation and electrical conductivity after annealing. | Weiyi Wang Qinglin Pan Geng Lin Xiaoping Wang Yuqiao Sun Xiangdong Wang Ji Ye Yuanwei Sun Yi Yu Fuqing Jiang Jun Li Yaru Liu | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,58,23: | 4 |
| 10 | Loose architecture of multi-level massive geospatial data based on virtual quadtree显示文摘This paper proposed a virtual quadtree (VQT) based loose architecture of multi-level massive geospatial data for integrating massive geospatial data dispersed in the departments of different hierarchies in the same sector into a unified GIS (Geographic Information System) platform. By virtualizing the nodes of the quad-tree,the VQT separates the structure of data organization from data storage,and screens the difference between the data storage in local computer and in the re-mote computers in network environment. And by mounting,VQT easily integrates the data from the remote computers into the local VQT so as to implement seam-less integration of distributed multi-level massive geospatial data. Based on that mode,the paper built an application system with geospatial data over 1200 GB distributed in 12 servers deployed in 12 cities. | 11 | Paleoenvironment evolution of the East Philippine Sea recorded in the new-type ferromanganese crust since the terminal Late Miocene显示文摘From systemic research of microstructure, geochemistry, uranium-series and 10Be isotope dating on a new-type deepwater ferromanganese crust from the East Philippine Sea, the paleoenvironment evolu-tion of the target area since the terminal Late Miocene was recovered. The vertical section changes of microstructure and chemical composition are consistent in the studied crust, which indicate three major accretion periods and corresponding paleoenvironment evolution of the crust. The bottom crust zone was formed in the terminal Late Miocene (5.6 Ma) with loose microstructure, high detritus content and high growth rate. Reductions of mineral element content, accretion rate and positive Ce-anomaly degree at 4.6 Ma indicate temporal warming, which went against the crust accretion and finally formed an accretion gap in the terminal Middle Pliocene (2.8―2.7 Ma). The more active Antarctic bottom sea-waters in the Late Pliocene (2.7 Ma) facilitated the fast transfer to the top pure crust zone. Hereafter, with the further apart of volcanic source and the keeping increase of eolian material (1.0 Ma), although surrounding conditions were still favorable, mineral element content still shows an obvious reducing trend. | 14 | Fabric changes induced by super-absorbent polymer on cementelime stabilized excavated clayey soil显示文摘This paper studies the microstructure variation induced by super-absorbent polymer(SAP)to understand the mechanism of macroscopic strength improvement of stabilized soil.The fabric changes of cement elime stabilized soil were analyzed with respect to the variation of SAP content,water content,lime content and curing time,using mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)tests.It can be observed that the delimitation pore diameter between inter-and intra-aggregate pores was 0.2 mm for the studied soil,determined through the intrusion/extrusion cycles.Experimental results showed that fabric in both inter-and intra-aggregate pores varied significantly with SAP content,lime content,water content and curing time.Two main changes in fabric due to SAP are identified as:(1)an increase in intra-aggregate pores(<0.2 mm)due to the closer soilecementelime cluster space at higher SAP content;and(2)a decrease in inter-aggregate pores represented by a reduction in small-pores(0.2e2 mm)due to the lower pore volume of soil mixture after water absorption by SAP,and a slight increase in large-pores(>2 mm)due to the shrinkage of SAP particle during the freezeedry process of MIP test.Accordingly,the strength gain due to SAP for cementelime stabilized soil was mainly due to a denser fabric with less interaggregate pores.The cementitious products gradually developed over time,leading to an increase in intra-aggregate pores with an increasing proportion of micro-pores(0.006e0.2 mm).Meanwhile,the inter-aggregate pores were filled by cementitious products,resulting in a decrease in total void ratio.Hence,the strength development over time is attributable to the enhancement of cementation bonding and the refinement of fabric due to the increasing cementitious compounds. | Xia Bian Lingling Zeng Xiaozhao Li Xiusong Shi Shuming Zhou Fuqing Li | 2021 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,5: | 3 |
| 15 | Sea-level changes controlled detrital sediment inputs to the Bicol Shelf in the western Philippine Sea since 150 ka显示文摘Detrital sediments derived from the Philippine Islands are one of the main sources of deep-sea sediments in the western Philippine Sea.However,systematic research on their characteristics and transport mechanisms are lacking.We used parametric end-member analysis to quantitatively partition the grain size of detrital sediments in core MD06-3052 from the Bicol Shelf in the western Philippine Sea;three endmembers EMI,EM2,and EM3,whose respective modes were at 2,10,and 45 μm,were separated.We also measured the Sr and Nd isotopic compositions of different size fractions(<4 and >20 μm) of the detrital sediments and the results showed that the detrital sediments mainly originate from the Philippine Islands.Components EMI and EM2 are transported to the Bicol Shelf mainly by surface and bottom currents from the islands,and component EM3 is delivered by gravity flow from the exposed shelf during low sea-level stands.The content of the total detrital fraction and the three end-members,as well as the mass accumulation rates(MARs) of the coarse detritus(EM2 and EM3),were considerably higher during glacial periods(40-14 ka and 150-130 ka) than during other intervals;the glacials corresponded to a low sea level,while the MAR of the fine detritus(EMI) did not increase remarkably during 40-14 ka.We therefore concluded that the input of coarse detritus to the Bicol Shelf from the islands was mainly controlled by sea-level change.Variations of the input of fine-grained detritus(EM1) was influenced not only by sea level but also by ocean currents and regional precipitation.Overall,our results help understand 'source-to-sink' processes in the western Pacific marginal seas and their response to global change. | ZHANG Zhishun JIANG Fuqing LI Tiegang YANG Dezhou ZHOU Xiaojing XIONG Zhifang QIU Xiaohua JIA Qi YAN Yu FENG Xuguang | 2020 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,4: | 2 |
