| 1 | Diagnostic utility of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fineneedle aspiration biopsy for glomus tumor of the stomach显示文摘A 52-year-old man was referred for further investigation of a gastric submucosal tumor on the greater curvature of the antrum. Endoscopic ultrasonography demonstrated a hypoechoic solid mass, which was primarily connected to the muscular layer of the stomach. We performed endoscopic ultrasoundguided fine-needle aspiration biopsy. The pathological examination showed proliferation of oval-shaped cells with nest formation, which stained strongly positive for muscle actin, and negative for c-kit, CD34, CD56,desmin, S-100, chromogranin, and neuron-specific enolase. Therefore, we performed laparoscopy and endoscopy cooperative surgery based on the preoperative diagnosis of glomus tumor of the stomach. The final histological diagnosis confirmed the preoperative diagnosis. | 2 | Measurement of prostaglandin metabolites is useful in diagnosis of small bowel ulcerations显示文摘BACKGROUND We recently reported on a hereditary enteropathy associated with a gene encoding a prostaglandin transporter and referred to as chronic enteropathy associated with SLCO2 A1 gene(CEAS). Crohn's disease(CD) is a major differential diagnosis of CEAS, because these diseases share some clinical features. Therefore, there is a need to develop a convenient screening test to distinguish CEAS from CD.AIM To examine whether prostaglandin E major urinary metabolites(PGE-MUM) can serve as a biomarker to distinguish CEAS from CD.METHODS This was a transactional study of 20 patients with CEAS and 98 patients with CD.CEAS was diagnosed by the confirmation of homozygous or compound heterozygous mutation of SLCO2 A1. We measured the concentration of PGEMUM in spot urine by radioimmunoassay, and the concentration was compared between the two groups of patients. We also determined the optimal cut-off value of PGE-MUM to distinguish CEAS from CD by receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis.RESULTS Twenty Japanese patients with CEAS and 98 patients with CD were enrolled.PGE-MUM concentration in patients with CEAS was significantly higher than that in patients with CD(median 102.7 vs 27.9 μg/g × Cre, P < 0.0001). One log unit increase in PGE-MUM contributed to 7.3 increase in the likelihood for the diagnosis of CEAS [95% confidence interval(CI) 3.2-16.7]. A logistic regression analysis revealed that the association was significant even after adjusting confounding factors(adjusted odds ratio 29.6, 95%CI 4.7-185.7). | 4 | On-chip 3D rotation of oocyte based on a vibration-induced local whirling flow显示文摘We propose a novel on-chip 3D cell rotation method based on a vibration-induced flow.When circular vibration is applied to a microchip with micropillar patterns,a highly localized whirling flow is induced around the micropillars.The direction and velocity of this flow can be controlled by changing the direction and amplitude of the applied vibration.Furthermore,this flow can be induced on an open chip structure.In this study,we adopted a microchip with three micropillars arranged in a triangular configuration and an xyz piezoelectric actuator to apply the circular vibration.At the centre of the micropillars,the interference of the vibration-induced flows originating from the individual micropillars induces rotational flow.Consequently,a biological cell placed at this centre rotates under the influence of the flow.Under three-plane circular vibrations in the xy,xz or yz plane,the cell can rotate in both the focal and vertical planes of the microscope.Applying this 3D cell rotation method,we measured the rotational speeds of mouse oocytes in the focal and vertical planes as 63.7±4.0°s^(−1) and 3.5±2.1°s^(−1),respectively.Furthermore,we demonstrated the transportation and rotation of the mouse oocytes and re-positioned their nuclei into a position observable by microscope. | Takeshi Hayakawa Shinya Sakuma Fumihito Arai | 2015 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2015,1,1: | 2 |
