Estimation of internal nutrient release in large shallow Lake Taihu, China显示文摘Based on field investigation of wave, sediment suspension and the changes in nutrient concentration of the water column in Lake Taihu, China, we proposed two release models to quantify nutrient release under static and dynamic conditions, respectively. Under static conditions, nutrient release from sediments to the overlying water mainly depends on chemical diffusion induced by concentration gradient, in which the nutrient release is controlled by the temperature, dissolved oxygen concentration in the sediment-water interface, oxidation-reduction potential and the concentration difference between porewater and overlying water. Under dynamic condition (or disturbed condition),both dissolved and particulate nutrients in sediments are released into the water column because of wind-induced sediment suspension. The amount of nutrient release under dynamic conditions is larger than that under the static condition. The release of dissolved nutrients, however, does not increase because the wind induced turbulence made oxidation of metallic elements such as Fe (ferric iron), Mn which are capable of precipitating soluble reactive phosphate (SRP). Under dynamic conditions, therefore, the release of total phosphorus (TP) increases dramatically but the release of SRP is close to those under static conditions. In sediments of Lake Taihu, high Fe content leads to a high ratio of Fe to P contents in sediments (Fe:P ratio). Under dynamic conditions, therefore, nutrient release is controlled by the intensity of disturbance, sediment consolidation and nutrient content in sediments. As for dissolved nutrients, especially SRP, the release is also controlled by the intensity of dynamic re-oxidation, Fe content in sediments and nutrient concentration gradient between porewater and overlying water. Based on these two release modes, the release flux in Lake Taihu has been estimated. In the static condition (i.e. laboratory experimental condition), total release of NH4+-N for whole lake is ca. 10,000 ton/a, and PO43--P is ca. 900 ton/a. In the dynamic condition, nutrient release following sediment suspension was estimated according to three different intensities of wind forcing which were defined as 'calm' (wind speed is less than 2 m/s), 'gentle' (wind speed is greater than 2 m/s and less than 6 m/s) and 'gust' (wind speed is greater than 6 m/s). The release rate in the condition of 'calm' was estimated in terms of the nutrient release in the laboratory experimental static condition; whereas the release rate in conditions of 'gentle' and 'gust' was estimated in terms of measurement during sediment resuspension conducted in flume experiments. With the observation of wind velocity and frequency in 2001, each type of wind forcing took the frequency of 12%, 82% and 6% for 'calm', 'gentle' and 'gust', respectively. The yearly release of nitrogen was 81,000 ton and phosphorus was 21,000 ton, which is about 2-6 folds of annual external loading, respectively. | QIN Boqiang, ZHU Guangwei, ZHANG Lu, LUO Liancong, GAO Guang & GU Binhe Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing 210008, China Everglades Department, South Florida Water Management District, 3301 Gun Club Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33406, USA | 2006 | Science China Earth Sciences2006,49,z1: | 37
Complex role of matrix metalloproteinases in angiogenesis显示文摘Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP) play a significant role in regulating angiogenesis, the process of new blood vessel formation. Interstitial collagenase (MMP-1), 72 kDa gelatinase A/type IV collagenase (MMP-2), and 92 kDa gelatinase B/type IV collagenase (MMP-9) dissolve extracellular matrix (ECM) and may initiate and Promote angiogenesis. TIMP-1, TIMP-2, TIMP-3, and possibly,TIMP-4 inhibit neovascularisation. A new paradigm is emerging that matrilysin (MMP-7), MMP-9, and metalloelastase (MMP-12) may block angiogehesis by converting plasndnogen to angiostatin, which is one of the most potent angiogenesis antagonists. MMPs and TIMPs play a complex role in regulating angiogenesis. An understanding of the biochemical and cellular pathways and mechanisms of angiogenesis will provide importal information to allow the control of angiogenesis, e.g. the stimulation of angiogenesis for coronary collateral circulation formation; while the inhibition for treating arthritis and cancer. | SANG QING XIANG AMY(Biochemistry Division, Department of Chemistry, Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida 32306-4390, USA) | 1998 | Cell Research1998,8,3: | 40

Role of soil rhizobacteria in phytoremediation of heavy metal contaminated soils显示文摘Heavy metal pollution of soil is a significant environmental problem and has its negative impact on human health and agriculture. Rhizosphere, as an important interface of soil and plant, plays a significant role in phytoremediation of contaminated soil by heavy metals, in which, microbial populations are known to affect heavy metal mobility and availability to the plant through release of chelating agents, acidification, phosphate solubilization and redox changes, and therefore, have potential to enhance phytoremediation processes. Phytoremediation strategies with appropriate heavy metal-adapted rhizobacteria have re-ceived more and more attention. This article paper reviews some recent advances in effect and significance of rhizobacteria in phytoremediation of heavy metal contaminated soils. There is also a need to improve our understanding of the mechanisms in-volved in the transfer and mobilization of heavy metals by rhizobacteria and to conduct research on the selection of microbial isolates from rhizosphere of plants growing on heavy metal contaminated soils for specific restoration programmes. | JING Yan-de1,2, HE Zhen-li1,3, YANG Xiao-e1 (1Ministry of Education Key Lab of Environment, Remediation and Ecosystem Health, School of Natural Resource and Environment Science, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310029, China) (2Department of Resources and Planning, Qufu Normal University, Jining 273165, China) (3University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Indian River Research and Education Center, Fort Pierce, Florida 34945, USA) | 2007 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2007,8,3: | 18
Eco-economic evolution, emergy evaluation and policy options for the sustainable development of Tibet显示文摘As economies and ecological support systems become more interdependent, new disciplines are needed to 'bridge the gap' of understanding between societies and nature. It is now clear that neither ecology nor economics alone can address the problems of our global commons. New measures of wealth, of value, of contributions and production are needed that acknowledge the 'natural capital' and 'ecosystem services' provided from healthy environments. A new interface is now being recognized termed 'eco-economics'. It is an ambitious and necessary attempt to understand the affairs of humanity and nature as a single, interdependent system. New tools are being invested to measure wealth. services and production fairly and equitably. In this report we use systems analysis approach to study the combined ecological-economic system of Tibet We use an alternative measure of value, based on real contributions to system performance, termed EMERGY, spelt with an 'M'. It is an accounting unit of total contributions, direct and indirect. used in generating a product or service. It is a concept derived from understanding whole systems, their interactions and interdependence, and the resources driving and maintaining them. This broader approach will help us to investigate Tibetan resources utilization and potentialities and exchange. Emergy analysis allows comparison and incroporation of environmental costs and benefits with variables of traditional economic costs and benefits to provide a more comprehensive perspective for public policy directives. Through this research, we think: 1) China has made a great effort in making Tibet develop from a closed regional system to a more and more opened regional system which is very important to the sustainable development of Tibet. 2) The increase of economic development and population growth has a close relationship with the total emergy storage and use in transportation. Education in modern science and technology increased the shared emergy of Tibetans to modern science and technology and stimulated the process of matching material and energy imports from outside with local resources. 3) There is great potential to develop hydropower and geothermal reserves that may stimulate not only economic development but also the better use of environment. 4) The better trained population can increase the empower of Tibet eco-economic system. Future development needs all kinds of talent exchanges with the outside system to develop education. 3) Compared with the Tibet economic system, Taiwan economic system is much more competitive. GNP and emergy use are very useful functions for comparing the competitive power of different ecological economic systems. | YAN Mao-chao, H. T. | 7 | Constructing super Gabor frames:the rational time-frequency lattice case显示文摘For a time-frequency lattice Λ = A Z d × B Z d , it is known that an orthonormal super Gabor frame of length L exists with respect to this lattice if and only if |det( AB) | = 1 L . The proof of this result involves various techniques from multi-lattice tiling and operator algebra theory, and it is far from constructive. In this paper we present a very general scheme for constructing super Gabor frames for the rational lattice case. Our method is based on partitioning an arbitrary fundamental domain of the lattice in the frequency domain such that each subset in the partition tiles R d by the lattice in the time domain. This approach not only provides us a simple algorithm of constructing various kinds of orthonormal super Gabor frames with flexible length and multiplicity, but also allows us to construct super Gabor (non-Riesz) frames with high order smoothness and regularity. Several examples are also presented. | LI ZhongYan 1 & HAN DeGuang 2, 1 Department of Mathematics and Physics, North China Electric Power University, Beijing 102206, China 2 Department of Mathematics, University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL 32816, USA | 2010 | Science China Mathematics2010,53,12: | 3

Effects of Ta Addition on NiTi Shape Memory Alloys显示文摘The effect of Ta addition on the martensitic transformation characteristics and the X-ray visibility on NiTi shape memory alloy have been studied in (Ni51Ti49)1-x Tax system. It was found that the transformation temperatures of the Ni51Ti49 binary alloy increased drastically by an addition of 0-4 at. pct Ta, but only slightly when the concentration exceeded 4 at. pct, the addition of Ta greatly decreases the sensitivity of the martensitic transformations to the variation in the Ni-Ti ratio. The addition of Ta to the NiTi binary alloy can improve its X-ray visibility. | Jianlu MA, Jiangnan LIU+, Zhengpin WANG and Fei XUE (Dept. of Materials Science & Engineering, Xi’an Institute of Technology, Xi’an 710032, China) Kuang-Hsi WU and Zhongjie PU (Department of Mechanical Engineering, Florida International University, USA) | 2000 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2000,16,5: | 3
