1Chinese deserts and sand fields in Last Glacial Maximum and Holocene Optimum显示文摘The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, c. 26-16 ka) and the Holocene Optimum (HO, c. 9-5 ka) were characterized by cold-dry and warm-wet climates respectively in the recently geological Earth. How Chinese deserts and sand fields responded to these distinctive climatic changes is still not clear, however. To reconstruct environments of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO is helpful to understand the forcing mechanisms of environment change in this arid region, and to test paleoclimatic modeling results. Through our long-term field and laboratory investigations, 400 optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages and more than 100 depositional records in the Chinese deserts and sand fields were obtained; on the basis of these data, we reconstruct spatial distributions of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO. Our results show that the sand fields of Mu Us, Hunshandake, Horqin and Hulun Buir in northern and northeastern China had expanded 25%, 37%, 38% and 270%, respectively, during the LGM; the sand fields of Gonghe in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau had expanded 20%, and the deserts of Badain Jaran, Tengger in central northern China had expanded 39% and 29% separately during the LGM; the deserts of Taklimakan, Gurbantünggüt and Kumtag in northwestern China had expanded 10%-20% respectively, compared to their modern areas. On the other hand, all of the sand fields were nearly completely covered by vegetation during the HO; the deserts in northwestern and central northern China were reduced by around 5%-20% in area during this time. Lakes in this arid region were probably expanded during the HO but this conclusion needs more investigation. Compared with the geological distributions of deserts and sand fields, human activity has clearly changed (expanded) the area of active sand dunes at the present time. 3Repair of left ventricular aneurysm during off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery显示文摘Background Acute myocardial infarction can result in left ventricular aneurysm, which may in turn cause congestive heart failure, ventricular arrhythmia and thromboembolic events. This study evaluates results achieved with a modified linear closure of left ventricular aneurysms during off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery. Methods From January 2001 to May 2004, 75 patients were operated on for nonruptured, postinfarctional, left ventricular aneurysm during off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery. Repair was completed on the beating heart to minimize ischaemia and allow assessment of wall function and viability to guide closure. All patients presented with symptoms of angina and congestive heart failure or ventricular arrhythmia. The majority (75%) of the patients were in NYHA functional class Ⅲ or Ⅳ. Preoperative ejection fraction was 26%±9%. The mean left ventricular, end diastolic diameter was (57.5±7.1) mm. The ventricular preoperative and postoperative performances were compared. χ 2 test and Student’s t test were used to analyse the outcomes. A P value less than 0.05 was considered significant.Results Hospital mortality was 1.3% (1/75). Coronary artery bypass was performed with an average of (3.3±1.2) grafts per patient. At the time of followup, all the patients had no symptoms. The mean NYHA class and ejection fraction increased significantly ( P <0.001). The mean left ventricular, end diastolic diameter decreased significantly ( P <0.001). Conclusions Surgical closure of left ventricular aneurysm can be performed during off-pump coronary artery bypass. The operation is associated with a low inhospital mortality and morbidity. 4S100A8 promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastasis under TGF-β/USF2 axis in colorectal cancer显示文摘Background:The transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)pathway plays a pivotal role in inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT),which is a key step in cancer invasion and metastasis.However,the regulatory mechanism of TGF-βin inducing EMT in colorectal cancer(CRC)has not been fully elucidated.In previous studies,it was found that S100A8 may regulate EMT.This study aimed to clarify the role of S100A8 in TGF-β-induced EMT and explore the underlying mechanism in CRC.Methods:S100A8 and upstream transcription factor 2(USF2)expression was detected by immunohistochemistry in 412 CRC tissues.Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed.In vitro,Western blot,and migration and invasion assays were performed to investigate the effects of S100A8 and USF2 on TGF-β-induced EMT.Mouse metastasis models were used to determine in vivo metastasis ability.Luciferase reporter and chromatin immunoprecipitation assay were used to explore the role of USF2 on S100A8 transcription.Results:During TGF-β-induced EMT in CRC cells,S100A8 and the transcription factor USF2 were upregulated.S100A8 promoted cell migration and invasion and EMT.USF2 transcriptionally regulated S100A8 expression by directly binding to its promoter region.Furthermore,TGF-βenhanced the USF2/S100A8 signaling axis of CRC cells whereas extracellular S100A8 inhibited the USF2/S100A8 axis of CRC cells.S100A8 expression in tumor cells was associated with poor overall survival in CRC.USF2 expression was positively related to S100A8 expression in tumor cells but negatively related to S100A8-positive stromal cells.Conclusions:TGF-βwas found to promote EMT and metastasis through the USF2/S100A8 axis in CRC while extracellular S100A8 suppressed the USF2/S100A8 axis.USF2 was identified as an important switch on the intracellular and extracellular S100A8 feedback loop.Si Li Jun Zhang Senmi Qian Xuesong Wu Liang Sun Tianyi Ling Yao Jin Wenxiao Li Lichao Sun Maode Lai Fangying Xu 2021Cancer Communications2021,41,2:5
5Combination of heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction and photocatalysis using Co–TiO_2 nanocatalyst for activation of KHSO_5 with visible light irradiation at ambient conditions显示文摘A novel coupled system using Co–Ti O2was successfully designed which combined two different heterogeneous advanced oxidation processes,sulfate radical based Fenton-like reaction(SR-Fenton)and visible light photocatalysis(Vis-Photo),for degradation of organic contaminants.The synergistic effect of SR-Fenton and Vis-Photo was observed through comparative tests of 50 mg/L Rhodamine B(Rh B)degradation and TOC removal.The Rhodamine B degradation rate and TOC removal were 100%and 68.1%using the SR-Fenton/Vis-Photo combined process under ambient conditions,respectively.Moreover,based on XRD,XPS and UV-DRS characterization,it can be deduced that tricobalt tetroxide located on the surface of the catalyst is the SR-Fenton active site,and cobalt ion implanted in the Ti O2lattice is the reason for the visible light photocatalytic activity of Co–Ti O2.Finally,the effects of the calcination temperature and cobalt concentration on the synergistic performance were also investigated and a possible mechanism for the synergistic system was proposed.This coupled system exhibited excellent catalytic stability and reusability,and almost no dissolution of Co2+was found.Qingkong Chen Fangying Ji Qian Guo Jianping Fan Xuan Xu 2014Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,12:5

7Lipidomics reveals association of circulating lipids with body mass index and outcomes in IgA nephropathy patients显示文摘IgA nephropathy(IgAN)is a leading cause of chronic kidney disease(CKD),which are commonly accompanied by dyslipidemia.Obesity is also associated with dyslipidemia and risk of CKD,but the relation of the dyslipidemia patterns with obesity and disease progression in IgAN patients remains unknown.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and the combined treatment with corticosteroids and TCM have been shown to be of benefit for IgAN patients,but predictive markers for guiding these treatments are lacking.Here,we quantified 545 lipid species in the plasma from 196 participants,including 140 IgAN patients and 56 healthy volunteers,and revealed an altered plasma lipidome in IgAN patients as compared to healthy participants.Association analysis showed that a subgroup of glycerides,particularly triacylglycerols(TGs)containing docosahexaenoic acid,were positively associated with high body mass index(BMI)in under-or normal-weight IgAN patients,while several free fatty acids and sphingomyelins were positively associated with high BMI in overweight or obese IgAN patients.Further,our study suggested that elevated levels of eight lipids,mainly TG species containing linolenic acid,were independent risk factors for IgAN progression and also reported the prospective association of circulating lipids with treatment outcomes in IgAN.Taken together,our findings may not only help to achieve precision medicine but also provide a knowledge base for dietary intervention in the treatment of IgAN.Yueyi Deng Qingqing Wu Wanjia Chen Li Zhu Wangyi Liu Fangying Xia Liang Sun Xu Lin Rong Zeng 2021Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2021,13,8:2
8Construction of minimal trellises for quantum stabilizer codes显示文摘The size of vertex set of quantum trellises affects the efficiency of decoding algorithms,which can be improved by reducing the number of vertices.Based on the standard check matrix of stabilizer codes,an algorithm to construct trellis-oriented generators for quantum stabilizer codes is presented.By using this algorithm,the trellises with minimal vertex set can be constructed.In addition,an algorithm to construct trellises iteratively for quantum stabilizer codes is also introduced.The algorithm proposed in this paper is more efficient and less complex than the one proposed by Olliver,and so is more suitable for the applications of larger scale and stricter timeliness.XIAO FangYing CHEN HanWu 2013Science China(Information Sciences)2013,56,1:2
9Impact of Internet Literacy,Internet Addiction Symptoms on Quality of Life显示文摘As a country with the largest absolute number of Internet users in the world,China has witnessed that Internet addiction is becoming a prominent issue.Young adults like university students are particularly susceptible to the lure of the Internet,and they are described as being obsessed with the Internet.According to the latest report of the China Internet Network Information Center(CNNIC),netizens aged 20-29 have become the largest group of Internet users in China,accounting for 30.7%of the total Chinese netizens.Therefore,it is very important to study the Internet use and its influence among the young,since young people have become the main body of the Chinese Internet users.Focusing on the two essential factors closely related to Internet addiction as a risk,this study attempted to find out the interrelationships between Internet literacy,Internet addiction,and young people’s quality of life.As for research method,a paper-based survey was conducted to collect data and the final sample size was 1,000.The university student sample was created from a stratified sampling procedure with proportionate allocation among the nine universities in Dalian,a coast city in northeast China.Factor analyses showed different aspects of Internet literacy and various symptoms of Internet addiction among the university students.This study found that Internet addiction had some negative influences on the university students’quality of life.Moreover,the findings showed that Internet literacy has a significant influence on Internet addiction and quality of life among these young people.Basically,those university students with higher level of Internet literacy showed lower degree of Internet addiction and higher degree of quality of life.Therefore,in the future,more attention should be paid to education and activities in order to improve young people’s Internet literacy.The findings further enrich the literature of Internet addiction,Internet literacy,as well as quality of life,and are valuable for prevention,treatment,and recovery of Internet addiction among young people.Research on Internet addiction as an emerging risk in the Chinese context is of great research significance theoretically and practically,not only because Internet addiction is becoming a prominent issue in both China and many other societies,but also because it may act as a good case to study risk issue related to Internet,youth,and everyday life.The results can be used for future studies on Internet addiction,Internet literacy,and quality of life among other subpopulations or within other social contexts.WU Wenying CUI Fangying 2018Journalism and Mass Communication2018,8,4:2

14A CCCH zinc finger gene regulates doublesex alternative splicing and male development in Bombyx mori显示文摘Recent identification of a Piwi-interacting RNA(piRNA)-initiated sex determination cascade in the silkworm,Bombyx mori,provides novel insights into high diversity of insect sex determination pathways.In this system,the W-chromosome-derived Fem piRNA is the primary sex determination signal.A CCCH-type zinc finger gene Masculinizer(Masc),which is targeted by Fem piRNA-PIWI complex in female animals,is indispensable for male-specific splicing of B.mori doublesex(Bmdsx).Although many genes involved in this cascade have been identified,the regulatory mechanisms of silk-worm sex determination remain to be elucidated.Here we show that another CCCH-type zinc finger gene,Bmznf-2,is a masculinization factor in B.mori.Bmznf-2 shows testisabundant expression and loss of Bmznf-2 function via clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats 1 single-guide RNA-mediated mutagenesis results in feminized differentiation and appearance of the female-specific splicing variants of Bmdsx transcripts in males.In contrast,there is no phenotypic consequence in mutant females.In mutant males,relative messenger RNA expression levels of female-dominant genes such as vitellogenin and sex-specific storage protein I are significantly clevated while several male-dominant genes are significantly down-regulated.Furthermore,male mutants show delayed developmental timing,smaller body sizes of larvae and malformation of moth wings.Our data thus reveal that Bmznf-2 plays an indispensable role in silkworm male sexual differentiation.Fangying Yang Zhongjie Zhang Bo Hu Ye Yu Anjiang Tan 2021Insect Science2021,28,5:1

17Absence of complementary sex determination in two Leptopilina species(Figitidae,Hymenoptera)and a reconsideration of its incompatibility with endosymbiont-induced thelytoky显示文摘Complementary sex determination(CSD)is a widespread sex determination mechanism in haplodiploid Hymenoptera.Under CSD,sex is determined by the allelic state of one or multiple CSD loci.Heterozygosity at one or more loci leads to female development,whereas hemizygosity of haploid eggs and homozygosity of diploid eggs results in male development.Sexual(arrhenotokous)reproduction normally yields haploid male and diploid female offspring.Under asexual reproduction(thelytoky),diploidized unfertilized eggs develop into females.Thelytoky is often induced by bacterial endosymbionts that achieve egg diploidization by gamete duplication.As gamete duplication leads to complete homozygosity,endosymbiont-induced thelytokous reproduction is presumed to be incompatible with CSD,which relies on heterozygosity for female development.Previously,we excluded CSD in four Asobara(Braconidae)species and proposed a two-step mechanism for Wolbachia-induced thelytoky in Asobara japonica.Here,we conclusively reject CSD in two cynipid wasp species,Leptopilina heterotoma and Leptopilina clavipes.We further show that thelytoky in L.clavipes depends on Wolbachia titer but that diploidization and feminization steps cannot be separated,unlike in A.japonica.We discuss what these results reveal about the sex determination mechanism of L.clavipes and the presumed incompatibility between CSD and endosymbiont-induced thelytoky in the Hymenoptera.Fangying Chen Martijn Schenkel Elzemiek Geuverink Louis van de Zande Leo W.Beukeboom 2022Insect Science2022,29,3:1
