| 1 | The first metagenome of activated sludge from full-scale anaerobic/anoxic/oxic(A2O) nitrogen and phosphorus removal reactor using Illumina sequencing显示文摘The anaerobic/anoxic/oxic(A2O) process is globally one of the widely used biological sewage treatment processes. This is the first report of a metagenomic analysis using Illumina sequencing of full-scale A2O sludge from a municipal sewage treatment plant.With more than 530,000 clean reads from different taxa and metabolic categories, the metagenome results allow us to gain insight into the functioning of the biological community of the A2O sludge. There are 51 phyla and nearly 900 genera identified from the A2O activated sludge ecosystem. Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Nitrospirae and Chloroflexi are predominant phyla in the activated sludge, suggesting that these organisms play key roles in the biodegradation processes in the A2O sewage treatment system.Nitrospira, Thauera, Dechloromonas and Ignavibacterium, which have abilities to metabolize nitrogen and aromatic compounds, are most prevalent genera. The percent of nitrogen and phosphorus metabolism in the A2O sludge is 2.72% and 1.48%, respectively. In the current A2O sludge, the proportion of Candidatus Accumulibacter is 1.37%, which is several times more than that reported in a recent study of A2O sludge. Among the four processes of nitrogen metabolism, denitrification related genes had the highest number of sequences(76.74%), followed by ammonification(15.77%), nitrogen fixation(3.88%) and nitrification(3.61%). | 2 | Effect of Cynodon dactylon community on the conservation and reinforcement of riparian shallow soil in the Three Gorges Reservoir area显示文摘Introduction:Riparian vegetation plays a crucial role in soil conservation and riverbank reinforcement.The Three Gorges hydrologic project has significantly changed the pattern of water-level fluctuation and riparian environment,which significantly influenced plant community development and its effect on soil conservation and riverbank protection.Cynodon dactylon,a perennial grass with developed root system and creeping stems,has become a dominant riparian species in the Three Gorges area after the completion of the dam.We aimed to characterize how the soil-root system under the C.dactylon community responded to environmental changes and effects of the soil-root system on shallow soil conservation and riverbank reinforcement through field investigation and laboratory test.Methods:We conducted a field survey and experimental research.Quadrates of a natural C.dactylon community were set up on a riverbank along an altitude gradient.Plants were sampled randomly for the measurements of spatial structure and tensile strength of roots.Soil erosion resistance,soil scour resistance,and shear strength of sampled soil-root systems and control soil were tested in the laboratory.Results:Roots of the C.dactylon community significantly increased soil erosion resistance,soil scour resistance,and shear strength,enhancing the stability of shallow soil and riverbank.Due to water-level fluctuation,C.dactylon at lower altitudes was subjected to less time exposed to air.As a result,the soil-root systems at lower altitudes were characterized by reduced biomass with reduced capacity for soil reinforcement as measured through erosion resistance,soil scour resistance,and shear strength.The correlation analysis indicated that root biomass had a significant positive linear correlation with the enhancement of erosion resistance and scour resistance,and shear strength,respectively.Conclusions:Roots of the C.dactylon community effectively enhanced the stability of riparian shallow soil and riverbank.The fluctuation in water level caused the difference of root growth as the exposed time of plants decreases with the decrease of altitude.The difference of root structure resulted in the variation of the soil-root system in soil conservation and reinforcement. | Fangqing Chen Jinxia Zhang Miao Zhang Jianzhu Wang | 2015 | Ecological Processes2015,4,1: | 10 |

| 6 | Angle estimation for bistatic MIMO radar with unknown mutual coupling based on three-way compressive sensing显示文摘The problem of angle estimation for bistatic multipleinput multiple-output radar in the present of unknown mutual coupling(MC) is investigated, and a three-way compressive sensing(TWCS) estimation algorithm is developed. To exploit the inherent multi-dimensional structure of received data, a trilinear tensor model is firstly formulated. Then the de-coupling operation is followed. Thereafter, the high-order singular value decomposition is applied to compress the high dimensional tensor to a much smaller one. The estimation of the compressed direction matrices are linked to the compressed trilinear model, and finally two overcomplete dictionaries are constructed for angle estimation. Also,Cramer-Rao bounds for angle and MC estimation are derived. The proposed TWCS algorithm is effective from the perspective of estimation accuracy as well as the computational complexity, and it can achieve automatically paired angle estimation. | 7 | Effects of exotic species Larix kaempferi on diversity and activity of soil microorganisms in Dalaoling National Forest Park显示文摘Introduction:Soil microbial community plays a crucial role in the ecological processes of soil ecosystem.Forest species introduction often changes profoundly soil ecological processes in the forest.Larix kaempferi(Lam.)was introduced to China from Japan as a timber tree species in the 1960s.The activity and functional diversity of soil microorganisms in the L.kaempferi forest in Dalaoling National Forest Park in Hubei Province,China,was studied to evaluate the effects of this exotic species on the local soil ecosystems.Methods:Quadrates were set up randomly in the L.kaempferi forests cultivated in 1990 and 1996 and the surrounding Pinus armandii forest cultivated in 1990.Soil samples were collected using a soil corer at five locations along the diagonals in each quadrat.The activity and functional diversity of soil microorganisms were tested using the BIOLOG technique in laboratory.Results:The diversity,activity,and carbon utilization pattern of soil microorganism community and soil physicochemical properties were all impacted by the introduced species.The average well color development(AWCD)and Shannon’s richness index(H)of the soil microorganism community in the L.kaempferi forest decreased with the increase in forest age and were significantly lower than those in the surrounding native P.armandii forest.The carbon source utilization pattern of soil microorganism community in a 23-year-old L.kaempferi forest differed significantly from a 17-year-old L.kaempferi forest and the P.armandii forest.The introduced species also resulted in the changes of soil physicochemical properties.The organic material content,total nitrogen,available nitrogen,and total phosphorus in the soil of L.kaempferi forest were significantly lower than those in the soil of P.armandii forest.Conclusions:Introduction and long-time cultivation of L.kaempferi significantly altered the soil microbial functional diversity and activity and the soil physicochemical properties.The alteration increased with the increase of forest age. | Fangqing Chen Nina Song Guohua Chen Jianzhu Wang | 2015 | Ecological Processes2015,4,1: | 4 |

| 11 | Estimation of multipath parameters in wireless communications using multi-way compressive sensing显示文摘This paper addresses the problem of joint angle and delay estimation(JADE) in a multipath communication scenario. A low-complexity multi-way compressive sensing(MCS) estimation algorithm is proposed. The received data are firstly stacked up to a trilinear tensor model. To reduce the computational complexity,three random compression matrices are individually used to reduce each tensor to a much smaller one. JADE then is linked to a low-dimensional trilinear model. Our algorithm has an estimation performance very close to that of the parallel factor analysis(PARAFAC) algorithm and automatic pairing of the two parameter sets. Compared with other methods, such as multiple signal classification(MUSIC), the estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques(ESPRIT), the MCS algorithm requires neither eigenvalue decomposition of the received signal covariance matrix nor spectral peak searching. | 13 | Gene analysis of an antiviral protein SP-2 from Chinese wild silkworm, Bombyx mandarina Moore and its bioactivity assay显示文摘The cDNA encoding an antiviral protein SP-2 against BmNPV was cloned from the midgut of Chinese wild silkworm, Bombyx mandarina Moore (GenBank access AY945210) based on the available informa- tion of the domesticated silkworm. Its cDNA was 855 bp encoding 284 amino acids with predicted mo- lecular weight of 29.6 kDa. Its full length in genomics was 1376 bp, including 5 exons and 4 introns. The expression analysis indicated that it was only expressed in midgut, and its expression level was higher during feeding stage of larval instars while very lower during the moltism and mature stages. The de- duced amino acid sequence of this protein showed eight-amino-acid variation compared with the counterpart of domesticated silkworm. Its antiviral activity was assayed through in vitro test.
