1Belowground carbon balance and carbon accumulation rate in the successional series of monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest显示文摘The balance, accumulation rate and temporal dynamics of belowground carbon in the successional series of monsoon evergreen broadleaved forest are obtained in this paper, based on long-term observations to the soil organic matter, input and standing biomass of litter and coarse woody debris, and dissolved organic carbon carried in the hydrological process of subtropical climax forest ecosystem—monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest, and its two successional forests of natural restoration—coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest and Pinus massoniana forest, as well as data of root biomass obtained once every five years and respiration measurement of soil, litter and coarse woody debris respiration for 1 year. The major results include: the belowground carbon pools of monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest, coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest, and Pinus massoniana forest are 23191 ± 2538 g·m?2, 16889 ± 1936 g·m?2 and 12680 ± 1854 g·m?2, respec- tively, in 2002. Mean annual carbon accumulation rates of the three forest types during the 24a from 1978 to 2002 are 383 ± 97 g·m?2·a?1, 193 ± 85 g·m?2·a?1 and 213 ± 86 g·m?2·a?1, respectively. The belowground carbon pools in the three forest types keep increasing during the observation period, suggesting that belowground carbon pools are carbon sinks to the atmosphere. 2Strength evolution and deformation behaviour of cemented paste backfill at early ages: Effect of curing stress, filling strategy and drainage显示文摘In this study, a pressure cell apparatus is developed to investigate the early age evolution of the strength and deformation behaviour of cemented paste backfill(CPB) when subjected to various loading conditions under different curing scenarios. The different curing scenarios that are simulated include:(1)drained and undrained conditions,(2) different filling rates,(3) different filling sequences, and(4) different curing stresses. The findings show that drainage, curing stress, curing time and filling rate influence the mechanical and deformation behaviours of CPB materials. The coupled effects of consolidation, drainage and suction contribute to the strength development of drained CPB subjected to curing stress. On the other hand, particle rearrangement caused by the applied pressure and suction development due to self-desiccation plays a significant role in the strength gain of undrained CPB cured under stress.Furthermore, curing stress induces slightly faster rate of cement hydration, which can contribute to strength acquisition.Ghirian Alireza Fall Mamadou 2016International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2016,26,5:17
3市政排涝自吸泵启动过程气液两相流动及压力脉动分析显示文摘为了探明自吸泵的自吸机理.以外混式自吸泵为研究对象,利用CFX仿真软件中的VOF(volume of fluid)两相流模型和k-ε湍流模型,并结合网格滑移技术进行自吸过程非稳态数值模拟,分析了不同时刻下泵内气液两相体积、液相速度、出口气体体积分数和压力的分布情况.同时改变非稳态模拟的时间步长及总时长,监测自吸过程叶轮及蜗壳内监测点的压力变化.结果表明:自吸泵的吸气与排气主要集中在启动过程的初期和中期,叶轮入口和泵出口的气体体积分数分别超过60%和75%;叶轮出口的气液混合带导致了叶轮出口到蜗壳内侧大片区域内的流动紊乱现象,降低了叶轮的做功能力,进而影响了泵的正常排气;叶轮监测点压力脉动幅值与距叶片工作面的大小有关,蜗壳内监测点压力脉动幅值与距叶轮外缘的大小有关.杨波 潘中永 Ibra FALL 2020江苏大学学报(自然科学版)2020,41,5:8
4OPTIMUM CHANNEL GEOMETRY AND MINIMUM ENERGY DISSIPATION RATE显示文摘The theory of minimum rate of energy dissipation in conjunction with Yang’s sediment transport equation and Manning’s equation for water discharge is used to derive the optimum open channel geometry. 5Chemically induced changes in the geotechnical response of cementing paste backfill in shaking table test显示文摘Cemented paste backfill(CPB)is extensively used for underground mine support and/or tailings management.However,CPB behavior under cyclic loadings might be affected by the chemistry of its porewater,which often contains sulphate ions.Till today,no studies have addressed the effect of sulphate on the response of CPB to cyclic loadings by using shaking table technique.This study presents new findings of assessing the effect of the sulphate in the pore water of CPB on its geotechnical response to cyclic loading by using shaking table.CPB mixtures were prepared(with and without sulphate),poured into a flexible laminar shear box,cured to 4 h,and then exposed to cyclic loading using one-dimensional(1D)shaking table.Several parameters(e.g.pore water pressure,settlement,lateral deformation,acceleration,electrical conductivity,effective stress,and liquefaction susceptibility)were monitored or determined before,during,and after shaking.Obtained results indicate that the sulphate-bearing CPB cured to 4 h can be prone to liquefaction under the studied conditions.However,sulphate-free CPB samples are resistant to liquefaction.These results are expected to contribute to a better understanding of the effect of water chemistry on the cyclic behavior of CPB,consequently enhancing the cost-effective design of CPB structures.Imad Alainachi Mamadou Fall 2021Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,3:4

8Review of the malaria epidemiology and trends in Zambia显示文摘A comprehensive desk review of malaria trends was conducted between 2000-2010 in Zambia to study malaria epidemiology and trends to guide strategies and approaches for effective malaria control.This review considered data from the National Health Information Management System,Malaria Surveys and Programme Review reports and analyzed malaria in-patient cases and deaths in relation to intervention coverage for all ages.Data showed three distinct epidemiological strata after a notable malaria reduction(66%)in in-patient cases and deaths,particularly between 2000-2008.These changes occurred following the(re-)introduction and expansion of indoor residual spraying up to 90%coverage,scale-up of coverage of long-lasting insecticidetreated nets in household from 50%to 70%,and artemisin-based combination therapy nationwide.However,malaria cases and deaths re-surged,increasing in 2009-2010 in the northern-eastern parts of Zambia.Delays in the disbursement of funds affected the implementation of interventions,which resulted in resurgence of cases and deaths.In spite of a decline in malaria disease burden over the past decade in Zambia,a reversal in impact is notable in the year 2009-2010,signifying that control gains are fragile and must be sustained toeliminate malaria.Freddie Masaninga Emmanuel Chanda Pascalina Chanda-Kapata Busiku Hamainza Hieronymo T Masendu Mulakwa Kamuliwo Wambinji Kapelwa John Chimumbwa John Govere Mac Otten Ibrahima Soce Fall Olusegun Babaniyi 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,2:2
9A column study of the hydro-mechanical behavior of mature fine tailings under atmospheric drying显示文摘In this paper, the hydro-mechanical behavior and physical properties of mature fine tailings(MFT) under atmospheric drying are investigated through a column study. In the study, evaporation takes place in the development of suction in the upper parts of the column and increasing suction leads to higher strength in the tailings. After 5 days, the suction in the first lift is around 17 k Pa in the upper part of the column.When a second lift is added, the first lift initially loses strength but over a 30 days' period, the strength is recovered to its prior value and suction in the second lift reaches 500 k Pa. The vane shear strength values show a substantial increase in the strength of the MFT after 30 days under atmospheric drying and drainage. The 90% strength found in the column exceeds the threshold(5 k Pa). The hydraulic-mechanical properties of the deposited tailings are closely coupled due to several mechanisms, such as evaporation,drainage, self-consolidation, suction and crack development. 11Geotechnical characterization of peat-based landfill cover materials显示文摘Natural methane(CH_4) oxidation that is carried out through the use of landfill covers(biocovers) is a promising method for reducing CH_4 emissions from landfills.Previous studies on peat-based landfill covers have mainly focused on their biochemical properties(e.g.CH_4 oxidation capacity).However,the utilization of peat as a cover material also requires a solid understanding of its geotechnical properties(thermal,hydraulic,and mechanical),which are critical to the performance of any biocover.Therefore,the objective of this context is to investigate and assess the geotechnical properties of peat-based cover materials(peat,peat-sand mixture),including compaction,consolidation,and hydraulic and thermal conductivities.The studied materials show high compressibility to the increase of vertical stress,with compression index(C_c) values ranging from 0.16 to 0.358.The compressibility is a function of sand content such that the peat-sand mixture(1:3) has the lowest C_c value.Both the thermal and hydraulic conductivities are functions of moisture content,dry density,and sand content.The hydraulic conductivity varies from 1.74 × 10^(-9) m/s to 7.35 × 10^(-9) m/s,and increases with the increase in sand content.The thermal conductivity of the studied samples varies between 0.54 W/(m K) and 1.41 W/(m K) and it increases with the increases in moisture and sand contents.Increases in sand content generally increase the mechanical behavior of peat-based covers;however,they also cause relatively high hydraulic and thermal conductivities which are not favored properties for biocovers.Afshin Khoshand Mamadou Fall 2016Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,5:2
12Assessment of the modulated gradient model in decaying isotropic turbulence显示文摘A recently introduced nonlinear model undergoes evaluations based on two isotropic turbulent cases:a University of Wiscosion-Madison case at a moderate Reynolds number and a Johns Hopkins University case at a high Reynolds number.The model uses an estimation of the subgrid-scale(SGS) kinetic energy to model the magnitude of the SGS stress tensor,and uses the normalized velocity gradient tensor to model the structure of the SGS stress tensor.Testing is performed for the first case through a comparison between direct numerical simulation(DNS) results and large eddy simulation(LES) results regarding resolved kinetic energy and energy spectrum.In the second case,we examine the resolved kinetic energy,the energy spectrum,as well as other key statistics including the probability density functions of velocities and velocity gradients,the skewness factors,and the flatness factors.Simulations using the model are numerically stable,and results are satisfactorily compared with DNS results and consistent with statistical theories of turbulence.Hao Lu a) Saint Anthony Falls Laboratory,Department of Civil Engineering,University of Minnesota-Twin Cities,2 3rd Ave.SE,Minneapolis,MN 55414,USA 2011Theoretical & Applied Mechanics Letters2011,1,4:2
