1Family-level diversity of extracellular proteases of sedimentary bacteria from the South China Sea显示文摘Protease-producing bacteria and their extracellular proteases are key players in degrading organic nitrogen to drive marine nitrogen cycling and yet knowledge on both of them is still very limited. This study screened protease-producing bacteria from the South China Sea sediments and analyzed the diversity of their extracellular proteases at the family level through N-terminal amino acid sequencing. Results of the 16 S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that all screened protease-producing bacteria belonged to the class Gammaproteobacteria and most of them were affiliated with different genera within the orders Alteromonadales and Vibrionales. The Nterminal amino acid sequence analysis for fourteen extracellular proteases from fourteen screened bacterial strains revealed that all these proteases belonged to the M4 family of metalloproteases or the S8 family of serine proteases. 2Evidence of multistage late Quaternary strong earthquakes on typical segments of Longmenshan Active Fault Zone in Sichuan, China显示文摘Investigation of offset landforms and trench excavation are important means to acquire the evidence of multistage activities of active faults. Here we present the result of fault trough investigation in Beichuan County and the Pingtong Town of Pingwu County along the Longmenshan Central Fault Belt, as well as the result from trench excavation at the platform foreslope in Hanwang Town of Mianzhu County on the Longmenshan Front Range Fault Belt. These results show that at least three fault activity events, including the Wenchuan earthquake, occurred in the Beichuan fault trough, at least two, including the Wenchuan earthquake, at Pingtong fault trough, and 2-3 paleoearthquakes in the Hanwang trench. Among these three localities, the times of the last strong earthquake prior to Wenchuan earthquake at Beichuan fault trough and Hanwang trench are close, approximately 6000 years ago, i.e., greater than 5.8 ka and smaller than 6.63 ka ago. 3NudCL2 is an autophagy receptor that mediates selective autophagic degradation of CP110 at mother centrioles to promote ciliogenesis显示文摘Primary cilia extending from mother centrioles are essential for vertebrate development and homeostasis maintenance.Centriolar coiled-coil protein 110(CP110)has been reported to suppress ciliogenesis Initiation by capping the distal ends of mother centrioles.However,the mechanism underlying the specific degradation of mother centriole-capping CP110 to promote cilia initiation remains unknown.Here,we find that autophagy is crucial for CP110 degradation at mother centrioles after serum starvation in MEF cells.We further identify NudC-like protein 2(NudCL2)as a novel selective autophagy receptor at mother centrioles,which contains an LC3-interacting region(UR)motif mediating the association of CP110 and the autophagosome marker LC3.Knockout of NudCL2 induces defects in the removal of CP110 from mother centrioles and ciliogenesis,which are rescued by wild-type NudCL2 but not its UR motif mutant.Knockdown of CP110 significantly attenuates ciliogenesis defects in NudCL2-deficient cells.In addition,NudCL2 morphants exhibit ciliation-related phenotypes in zebrafish,which are reversed by wild-type NudCL2,but not its UR motif mutant.Importantly,CP110 depletion significantly reverses these ciliary phenotypes in NudCL2 morphants.Taken together,our data suggest that NudCL2 functions as an autophagy receptor mediating the selective degradation of mother centriole-capping CP110 to promote ciliogenesis,which is indispensable for embryo development in vertebrates.Min Liu Wen Zhang Min Li Jiaxing Feng Wenjun Kuang Xiying Chen Feng Yang Qiang Sun Zhangqi Xu Jianfeng Hua Chunxia Yang Wei Liu Qiang Shu Yuehong Yang Tianhua Zhou Shanshan Xie 2021Cell Research2021,31,11:1
4Identification of natural allelic variation in TTL1 controlling thermotolerance and grain size by a rice super pan-genome∞显示文摘Continuously increasing global temperatures present great challenges to food security.Grain size,one of the critical components determining grain yield in rice(Oryza sativa L.),is a prime target for genetic breeding.Thus,there is an immediate need for genetic improvement in rice to maintain grain yield under heat stress.However,quantitative trait loci(QTLs)endowing heat stress tolerance and grain size in rice are extremely rare.Here,we identified a novel negative regulator with pleiotropic effects,Thermo‐Tolerance and grain Length 1(TTL1),from the super pan‐genomic and transcriptomic data.Loss‐of‐function mutations in TTL1 enhanced heat tolerance,and caused an increase in grain size by coordinating cell expansion and proliferation.TTL1 was shown to function as a transcriptional regulator and localized to the nucleus and cell membrane.Furthermore,haplotype analysis showed that hapL and hapS of TTL1 were obviously correlated with variations of thermotolerance and grain size in a core collection of cultivars.Genome evolution analysis of available rice germplasms suggested that TTL1 was selected during domestication of the indica and japonica rice subspecies,but still had much breeding potential for increasing grain length and thermotolerance.These findings provide insights into TTL1 as a novel potential target for the development of high‐yield and thermotolerant rice varieties.Yarong Lin Yiwang Zhu Yuchao Cui Hongge Qian Qiaoling Yuan Rui Chen Yan Lin Jianmin Chen Xishi Zhou Chuanlin Shi Huiying He Taijiao Hu Chenbo Gu Xiaoman Yu Xiying Zhu Yuexing Wang Qian Qian Cuijun Zhang Feng Wang Lianguang Shang 2023Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2023,65,12:0
5Holocene Paleoseismic Activity Along the Northern Piedmont Fault of the Hengshan Mountain, South of Datong Basin in Shanxi Province显示文摘Our field investigation indicates that the northern piedmont fault of the Hengshan Mountain has dislocated proluvial fan and terrace I of the gully mouth on the northern border of the Hengshan Mountain. Stratigraphic age data indicates that the surface layer in the middle and rear part of the proluvial fan and on the terrace I of the gully mouth on the mountain border consists of sediments of about 5200~6800a B.P. The Hezhuang and Niucaoyu trenches excavated in the front of Hengshan Mountain revealed that 3 paleoseismic events have occurred along the northern piedmont fault of Hengshan Mountain since the early Holocene. The 3 paleoseismic events occurred in 2260±190~4370±150a BP, nearly 5628±150a BP, and 8083±250~8430±720a BP, respectively, and their recurrence interval is 2313a,2628a and 2471a on average. The coseismic vertical displacement produced by these events is 1 0~3 0m. The elapsed time of the latest movement along the fault has exceeded the recurrence interval of these paleoearthquakes.
