| 3 | Chinese medicines for prevention and treatment of human hepatocellular carcinoma: current progress on pharmacological actions and mechanisms显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is one of leading causes of death in the world. Although various treatments have been developed, the therapeutic side effects are far from desirable. Chinese medicines(CMs, including plants, animal parts and minerals) have drawn a great deal of attention in recent years for their potential in the treatment of HCC. Most studies have shown that CMs may be able to retard HCC progression with multiple actions, either alone or in combination with other conventional therapies to improve quality of life in HCC patients. Additionally, CMs are used for preventing HCC occurrence. The aim of this study is to review the potential prophylactic and curative effects of CMs on human HCC and the possible mechanisms that underlie these pharmacological actions. Publications were collected and reviewed from Pub Med and China National Knowledge Infrastructure from 2000 to 2014. Keywords for literature searches include 'Chinese medicine', 'Chinese herb', 'traditional Chinese Medicine', 'hepatocellular carcinoma' and 'liver cancer'. CMs in forms of pure compounds, isolated fractions, and composite formulas are included. Combination therapies are also considered. Both in vitro and in vivo efficacies of CMs are being discussed and the translational potential to bedside is to be discussed with clinical cases, which show the actions of CMs on HCC may include tumor growth inhibition, antimetastatic activities, anti-inflammation, anti-liver cancer stem cells, reversal on multi-drug resistance and induction/reduction of oxidative stress. Multiple types of molecules are found to contribute in the above actions. Only the large-scale channel state information at the transmitter(CSIT) is considered so as to reduce the implementation complexity and overhead of the system. On this basis, we address the problem of fairness-oriented precoding design. A max-min optimization problem is formulated and solved in an iterative way. Methods The demographic and histological information about male lung cancer patients identified from 2000-01-01 to 2012-12-31,was collected from the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Relative frequencies(RF) were estimated for major histological subtypes and compared according to the years of diagnosis and birth. Results The RF of adenocarcinoma(ADC) increased from 21.96% to 43.36% and the RF of squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) decreased from 39.11% to 32.23% from 2000 to 2012 in the 15 427 male lung cancer patients included in this study(Z=17.909,P<0.0001; Z=-6.117,P<0.0001). The RF of ADC increased from 28.72% in 2000-2004,36.88% in 2005-2008 to 48.61% in 2009-2012 in patients born after 1960. The age-adjusted RF of ADC in 2007-2012 increased consistently in all the investigated areas. Conclusion The increased RF of ADC in male lung cancer patients highlights the need for further investigation of the etiologic factors of these tumors. | 18 | Emodin alleviates intestinal mucosal injury in rats with severe acute pancreatitis via the caspase-1 inhibition显示文摘BACKGROUND:Emodin,a traditional Chinese medicine,has a therapeutic effect on severe acute pancreatitis(SAP),whereas the underlying mechanism is still unclear.Studies showed that the intestinal mucosa impairment,and subsequent release of endotoxin and proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β,which further leads to the dysfunction of multiple organs,is the potentially lethal mechanism of SAP.Caspase-1,an IL-1β-converting enzyme,plays an important role in this cytokine cascade process.Investigation of the effect of emodin on regulating the caspase-1 expression and the release proinflammatory cytokines will help to reveal mechanism of emodin in treating SAP.METHODS:Eighty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups(n=20 each group):SAP,sham-operated(SO),emodin-treated(EM) and caspase-1 inhibitor-treated(ICE-I) groups.SAP was induced by retrograde infusion of 3.5% sodium taurocholate into the pancreatic duct.Emodin and caspase-1 inhibitor were given 30 minutes before and 12 hours after SAP induction.Serum levels of IL-1β,IL-18 and endotoxin,histopathological alteration of pancreas tissues,intestinal mucosa,and the intestinal caspase-1 m RNA and protein expressions were assessed 24 hours after SAP induction.RESULTS:Rats in the SAP group had higher serum levels of IL-1β and IL-18(P<0.05),pancreatic and gut pathological scores(P<0.05),and caspase-1 m RNA and protein expressions(P<0.05) compared with the SO group.Compared with the SAP group,rats in the EM and ICE-I groups had lower IL-1β and IL-18 levels(P<0.05),lower pancreatic and gut pathological scores(P<0.05),and decreased expression of intestine caspase-1 m RNA(P<0.05).Ultrastructural analysis by transmission electron microscopy found that rats in the SAP group had vaguer epithelial junctions,more disappeared intercellular joints,and more damaged intracellular organelles compared with those in the SO group or the EM and ICE-I groups.CONCLUSIONS:Emodin alleviated pancreatic and intestinal mucosa injury in experimental SAP.Its mechanism may partly be mediated by the inhibition of caspase-1 and its downstream inflammatory cytokines,including IL-1β and IL-18.Our animal data may be applicable in clinical practice. | Jian-Wen Ning Yan Zhang Mo-Sang Yu Meng-Li Gu Jia Xu Ali Usman Feng Ji | 2017 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2017,16,4: | 15 |
| 19 | Modeling the global ionospheric total electron content with empirical orthogonal function analysis显示文摘In the present work we model the global ionospheric total electron content (TEC) with the analysis of empirical orthogonal functions (EOF). The obtained statistical eigen modes, which makeup the modeled TEC, consist of two factors: the eigen vectors mapping TEC patterns at latitude and longitude (or local time LT), and the corresponding coefficients displaying the TEC variations in different time scales, i.e., the solar cycle, the yearly (annual and semiannual) and the diurnal universal time variations. It is found that the EOF analysis can separate the TEC variations into chief processes and the first two modes illustrate the most of the ionospheric climate properties. The first mode contains both the semiannual component which shows the semiannual ionospheric anomaly and the annual component which shows the annual or non-seasonal ionospheric anomaly. The second mode contains mainly the annual component and shows the normal seasonal ionospheric variation at most latitudes and local time sectors. The annual component in the second mode also manifests seasonal anomaly of the ionosphere at higher mid-latitudes around noontime. | 20 | Staged carotid artery angioplasty and stenting for patients with high-grade carotid stenosis with high risk of developing hyperperfusion injury:a retrospective analysis of 44 cases显示文摘Background:Hyperperfusion syndrome(HPS)is a rare but potentially a life-threatening complication after carotid artery angioplasty and stenting(CAS).Staged CAS has been an alternative to prevent HPS.Materials and methods:44 of 908 patients with high-grade internal carotid artery stenosis or near occlusion were at risk of HPS because of poor collateral flow and impaired cerebral blood flow(CBF).They were treated with first(stage 1),followed by a full CAS(stage 2)1 month later.Their 30-day outcomes were tabulated and analysed.Results:During follow-up,1 of the 44(2.2%)patients developed HPS immediately,3(7%)had postprocedural HPS(ie,transcranial Doppler(TCD)>120%)without clinical symptoms and 3(7%)required stenting at stage 1 for carotid dissections.After stage 1,there were significant improvement between the preprocedural and postprocedural CBF(0.98±0.06 vs 0.85±0.05,p<0.05),mean transit time(MTT;1.05±0.05 vs 1.15±0.05,p<0.05),time to peak(TTP;1.04±0.06 vs 1.20±0.06,p<0.05)on CT perfusion(CTP),and CBF(66.41±7.41 vs 44.44±6.43,p<0.05)on TCD.After stage 2,improvement was seen in CBF(1.01±0.07 vs 0.98±0.06,p<0.05),MTT(1.01±0.05 vs 1.05±0.05,p<0.05),TTP(0.99±0.06 vs 1.04±0.06,p<0.05)on CTP and CBF(66.41±7.41 vs 93.78±18.81,p<0.05)on TCD.2 had postoperative increase of middle cerebral artery mean flow velocity of 120%after stage 2 without clinical symptoms.Conclusion:Staged carotid artery stenting probably decreased the chance of developing HPS in this group of selected patients.Although requiring a 2-step intervention,staged CAS may be a safe and effective alternative. | Dapeng Mo Gang Luo Bo Wang Ning Ma Feng Gao Xuan Sun Xiaotong Xu Zhongrong Miao | 2016 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2016,1,4: | 14 |
