1Ameliorative effects of bombesin and neurotensin on trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid-induced colitis,oxidative damage and apoptosis in rats显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of bombesin (BBS) and neurotensin (NTS) on apoptosis and colitis in an ulcerative colitis model. METHODS:In this study, a total of 50 rats were divided equally into 5 groups. In the control group, no colitis induction or drug administration was performed. Colitis was induced in all other groups. Following the induction of colitis, BBS, NTS or both were applied to three groups of rats. The remaining group (colitis group) received no treatment. On the 11th d after induction of colitis and drug treatment, blood samples were collected for TNF-α and IL-6 level studies. Malondialdehyde (MDA), carbonyl, myeloperoxidase (MPO) and caspase-3 activities, as well as histopathological findings, evaluated in colonic tissues. RESULTS:According to the macroscopic and microscopic findings, the study groups treated with BBS, NTS and BBS + NTS showed significantly lower damage and inflammation compared with the colitis group (macroscopic score, 2.1 ± 0.87, 3.7 ± 0.94 and 2.1 ± 0.87 vs 7.3 ± 0.94;microscopic score, 2.0 ± 0.66, 3.3 ± 0.82 and 1.8 ± 0.63 vs 5.2 ± 0.78, P < 0.01). TNF-α and IL-6 levels were increased significantly in all groups compared with the control group. These increases were significantly smaller in the BBS, NTS and BBS + NTS groups compared with the colitis group (TNF-α levels, 169.69 ± 53.56, 245.86 ± 64.85 and 175.54 ± 42.19 vs 556.44 ± 49.82;IL-6 levels, 443.30 ± 53.99, 612.80 ± 70.39 and 396.80 ± 78.43 vs 1505.90 ± 222.23, P < 0.05). The colonic MPO and MDA levels were significantly lower in control, BBS, NTS and BBS + NTS groups than in the colitis group (MPO levels, 24.36 ± 8.10, 40.51 ± 8.67 and 25.83 ± 6.43 vs 161.47 ± 38.24;MDA levels, 4.70 ± 1.41, 6.55 ± 1.12 and 4.51 ± 0.54 vs 15.60 ± 1.88, P < 0.05). Carbonyl content and caspase-3 levels were higher in the colitis and NTS groups than in control, BBS and BBS + NTS groups (carbonyl levels, 553.99 ± 59.58 and 336.26 ± 35.72 vs 209.76 ± 30.92, 219.76 ± 25.77 and 220.34 ± 36.95;caspase-3 levels, 451.70 ± 68.27 and 216.20 ± 28.17 vs 28.60 ± 6.46, 170.50 ± 32.37 and 166.50 ± 30.95, P < 0.05). 2CO_(2) utilization: Developments in conversion processes显示文摘Carbon dioxide capture,utilization and storage(CCUS)eincluding conversion to valuable chemicals-is a challenging contemporary issue having multi-facets.The prospect to utilize carbon dioxide(CO_(2))as a feedstock for synthetic applications in chemical and fuel industries-through carboxylation and reduction reactions-is the subject of this review.Current statute of the heterogeneously catalyzed hydrogenation,as well as the photocatalytic and electrocatalytic activations of conversion of CO_(2) to value-added chemicals is overviewed.Envisaging CO_(2) as a viable alternative to natural gas and oil as carbon resource for the chemical supply chain,three stages of development;namely,(i)existing mature technologies(such as urea production),(ii)emerging technologies(such as formic acid or other single carbon(C1)chemicals manufacture)and(iii)innovative explorations(such as electrocatalytic ethylene production)have been identified and highlighted.A unique aspect of this review is the exploitations of reactions of CO2 ewhich stems from existing petrochemical plants-with the commodity petrochemicals(such as,methanol,ethylene and ethylene oxide)produced at the same or nearby complex in order to obtain value-added products while contributing also to CO_(2) fixation simultaneously.Exemplifying worldwide ethylene oxide facilities,it is recognized that they produce about 3 million tons of CO2 annually.Such a CO_(2) resource,which is already separated in pure form as a requirement of the process,should best be converted to a value-added chemical there avoiding current practice of discharging to the atmosphere.The potential utilization of CO_(2),captured at power plants,should also been taken into consideration for sustainability.This CO_(2) source,which is potentially a raw material for the chemical industry,will be available at sufficient quality and at gigantic quantity upon realization of on-going tangible capture projects.Products resulting from carboxylation reactions are obvious conversions.In addition,provided that enough supply of energy from non-fossil resources,such as solar[1],is ensured,CO_(2) reduction reactions can produce several valuable commodity chemicals including multi-carbon compounds,such as ethylene and acrylic acid,in addition to C1 chemicals and polymers.Presently,there are only few developing technologies which can find industrial applications.Therefore,there is a need for concerted research in order to assess the viability of these promising exploratory technologies rationally.Erdogan Alper Ozge Yuksel 2017Petroleum2017,3,1:13
3Solid amine sorbents for CO_(2) capture by chemical adsorption: A review显示文摘Amines are well-known for their reversible reactions with CO_(2),which make them ideal for CO_(2) capture from several gas streams,including flue gas.In this respect,selective CO_(2) absorption by aqueous alkanolamines is the most mature technology but the process is energy intensive and has also corrosion problems.Both disadvantages can be diminished to a certain extent by chemical adsorption of CO_(2) selectively.The most important element of the chemical adsorption of CO_(2) involves the design and development of a suitable adsorbent which consist of a porous support onto which an amine is attached or immobilized.Such an adsorbent is often called as solid amine sorbent.This review covers solid amine-based studies which are developed and published in recent years.First,the review examines several different types of porous support materials,namely,three mesoporous silica(MCM-41,SBA-15 and KIT-6)and two polymeric supports(PMMA and PS)for CO_(2) adsorption.Emphasis is given to the synthesis,modifications and characterizations-such as BET and PXRD data-of them.Amination of these supports to obtain a solid amine sorbent through impregnation or grafting is reviewed comparatively.Focus is given to the adsorption mechanisms,material characteristics,and synthesis methods which are discussed in detail.Significant amount of original data are also presented which makes this review unique.Finally,relevant CO_(2) adsorption(or equilibrium)capacity data,and cyclic adsorption/desorption performance and stability of important classes of solid amine sorbents are critically reviewed.These include severa PEI or TEPA impregnated adsorbents and APTES-grafted systems.Elif ErdalÜnveren Bahar Ozmen Monkul S¸erife Sarıoglan Nesrin Karademir Erdogan Alper 2017Petroleum2017,3,1:8
4Melatonin reduces bacterial translocation and apoptosis in trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid-induced colitis of rats显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of exogenous melatonin on bacterial translocation and apoptosis in a rat ulcerati-ve colitis model. METHODS: Rats were randomly assigned to three groups: groupⅠ: control, group Ⅱ: experimental colitis, group Ⅲ: colitis plus melatonin treatment. On d 11 after colitis, plasma tumor necrosis factor-α, portal blood endotoxin levels, colon tissue myeloperoxidase and caspase-3 activity were measured. Bacterial translocation was quantified by blood, lymph node, liver and spleen culture. RESULTS: We observed a significantly reduced inciden-ce of bacterial translocation to the liver, spleen, mesen-teric lymph nodes, portal and systemic blood in animals treated with melatonin. Treatment with melatonin signifi-cantly decreased the caspase-3 activity in colonic tissues compared to that in trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid-trea-ted rats (16.11 ± 2.46 vs 32.97 ± 3.91, P < 0.01). 5Predisposing factors and surgical outcome of complicated liver hydatid cysts显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the predisposing factors for peritoneal perforation and intrabiliary rupture and the effects of these complications on surgical outcome in liver hydatid disease.METHODS: A total of 372 patients with liver hydatid cysts who had undergone surgical treatment were evaluated retrospectively. Twenty eight patients with peritoneal perforation, 93 patients with spontaneous intrabiliary perforation, and 251 patients with noncomplicated hydatid cysts were treated in our clinics.RESULTS: When the predisposing factors for complications were evaluated, younger age, superf icial position, and larger cyst dimensions (P < 0.05; range, 0.0010.017) increased peritoneal perforation rates. It was shown that older age increased cyst dimensions, and presence of multiple and bilobar cysts increased intrabiliary rupture rates (P < 0.05; range, 0.0010.028). Partial pericystectomy and drainage was the most frequent surgical procedure in all groups (71.6%). The incidence of postoperative complications in the peritoneal perforated group, in the intrabiliary ruptured group, and in the noncomplicated group was 25%, 16.1% and 5.5%, respectively. When compared, complication rates were significantly different (P = 0.002). When length of hospital stay was compared, there was no signif icant difference between the groups (P > 0.05). The overall recurrence rate was 3.8% (14 patients), but there was not any statistical difference among the patient groups (P = 0.13). The early postoperative mortality rate was 1.1%. 6Arrhythmogenic epilepsy and pacing need: A matter of controversy显示文摘There is increasing awareness among the cardiology community regarding ictal bradyarrhythmias as a cause of loss of consciousness. A high degree of suspicion is necessary when diagnosing ictal bradyarrhythmias, and delay in diagnosing this condition may lead to morbidity associated with falls and trauma. Ictal bradyarrhythmias have also been suggested to be associated with sudden unexplained death in epilepsy, although evidence related to this association is limited. There is no guidelinedirected therapy for symptomatic ictal bradyarrhythmias due to a lack of randomized, controlled trials. Cardiac pacemaker therapy is commonly used for these patients; however, currently, there is no universal agreement on the pacing indications for these patients. 9Boldine provides protective effect against nephrotoxicity induced by cisplatin in Wistar rats:Role of oxidative stress,inflammation and caspase-3显示文摘Side effects of cisplatin,especially dose-dependent nephrotoxicity,are major factors limiting its use in cancer.Boldine((S)-2,9-dihydroxy-1,10-dimethoxy-aporphine)is a natural alkaloid known for its strong antioxidant activity present in leaves/bark of boldo tree(Peumus boldus Molina),a native tree in Chile.Here,we aimed to investigate the nephroprotective effect of boldine and its underlying mechanisms on cisplatin-induced rat renal injury.Thirty Wistar albino rats divided into 5 groups(Control,Cis,Bold.40,Cis+Bold.20,Cis+Bold.40 groups)were used.Rats received boldine(20 or 40 mg/kg/day),or vehicle(saline)intraperitoneal for 14 days and a single dose cisplatin(7 mg/kg,ip)was applied on the 10th day to induce nephrotoxicity.Rats and kidney tissue were weighed to determine kidney index.Blood urea nitrojen(BUN)and creatinine levels,the amount of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS,an index of lipid peroxidation),superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GPx)enzyme activities and tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α)levels were measured and histopathologic examination was performed.Inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)and caspase-3 expressions were detected immunohistochemically.Nephrotoxicity induced by cisplatin was apparent by elevated levels of BUN,creatinine,kidney index,TBARS and TNF-α,and decreased body weight,SOD and GPx enzyme levels.Pretreatment with boldine protected the renal function at both boldine doses by fixing the renal damage markers,oxidative stress,caspase-3 and iNOS expression.Histopathological findings supported biochemical findings.Taken together these findings indicate that boldine has promising protective effect against cisplatin nephrotoxicity by improving oxidative stress,inflammation,histopathological alterations and by alleviating caspase 3 expression.NERGIZ HACER TURGUT HUSEYIN GUNGOR MEHMET EKICI MUMIN ALPER ERDOGAN MEHMET ONDER KARAYIGIT HAKI KARA 2022BIOCELL2022,46,9:0
