| 1 | Helicobacter pylori and oral pathology:Relationship with the gastric infection显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)has been found in the oral cavity and stomach,and its infection is one of the most frequent worldwide.We reviewed the literature and conducted a Topic Highlight,which identified studies reporting an association between H.pylori-infection in the oral cavity and H.pylori-positive stomach bacterium.This work was designed to determine whether H.pylori is the etiologic agent in periodontal disease,recurrent aphthous stomatitis(RAS),squamous cell carcinoma,burning and halitosis.Record selection focused on the highest quality studies and meta-analyses.We selected 48 articles reporting on the association between saliva and plaque and H.pylori-infection.In order to assess periodontal disease data,we included 12 clinical trials and 1 meta-analysis.We evaluated 13 published articles that addressed the potential association with RAS,and 6 with squamous cell carcinoma.Fourteen publications focused on our questions on burning and halitosis.There is a close relation between H.pylori infection in the oral cavity and the stomach.The mouth is the first extra-gastric reservoir.Regarding the role of H.pylori in the etiology of squamous cell carcinoma,no evidence is still available. | Isabel Adler Andrea Muio Silvia Aguas Laura Harada Mariana Diaz Adriana Lence Mario Labbrozzi Juan Manuel Muio Boris Elsner Alejandra Avagnina Valeria Denninghoff | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,29: | 21 |
| 2 | IMPROVING EIGENVECTORS IN ARNOLDI'S METHOD显示文摘The Ritz vectors obtained by Arnoldi’s method may not be good approxima- tions and even may not converge even if the corresponding Ritz values do. In order to improve the quality of Ritz vectors and enhance the efficiency of Arnoldi type algorithms, we propose a strategy that uses Ritz values obtained from an m-dimensional Krylov subspace but chooses modified approximate eigenvectors in an (m + 1)-dimensional Krylov subspace. Residual norm of each new approximate eigenpair is minimal over the span of the Ritz vector and the (m+1)th basis vector, which is available when the m-step Arnoldi process is run. The resulting modi- fied m-step Arnoldi method is better than the standard m-step one in theory and cheaper than the standard (m + 1)-step one. Based on this strategy, we present a modified m-step restarted Arnoldi algorithm. | 3 | Aquatic exercise program-modulated oxidative stress markers in patients with Parkinson's disease显示文摘Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease.Oxidative stress,i.e.,the imbalance between the generation of reactive oxygen species and the antioxidant defense capacity of the body,plays an important role in the pathogenesis of this disease.Physical exercise can regulate oxidative stress.The purpose of this study was to analyze the short-and long-term effects of an aquatic exercise program on oxidative stress levels in patients with Parkinson's disease.The aquatic exercise program was carried out during 1 month with two sessions per week(1 hour/session).Blood samples were collected at four different time points:pre-intervention,immediately,48 hours,and 30 days after the first session of aquatic exercise program.Our results revealed that water-based programs modulated antioxidant enzyme activity,increased superoxide dismutase activity,reduced catalase activity,and increased the ratio of superoxide dismutase activity to catalase activity in patients with Parkinson's disease.Compared with pre-intervention and 48 hours after the first session of aquatic exercise program,superoxide dismutase activity was higher and catalase activity was lower immediately and 30 days after the first session.Our results demonstrated that aquatic exercise program could modulate oxidative stress,mainly by the effect of antioxidant enzyme activity.These results could better help understand the target of oxidative stress in Parkinson's disease.This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Centro Universitário Metodista IPA(approval No.1.373.911)on August 9,2019 and registered with REBEC(registration number:RBR-6 NJ4 MK). | Caroline Dani Isabel Teixeira Proenca Jessica Marinho Pamela Peccin Ivy Reichert Vital da Silva Simone Nique Vera Striebel Daniela Pochmann Viviane Rostirola Elsner | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,11: | 4 |
| 4 | Paternal physical exercise modulates global DNA methylation status in the hippocampus of male rat offspring显示文摘It is widely known that maternal physical exercise is able to induce beneficial improvements in offspring cognition; however, the effects of paternal exercise have not been explored in detail. The present study was designed to evaluate the impact of paternal physical exercise on memory and learning, neuroplasticity and DNA methylation levels in the hippocampus of male offspring. Adult male Wistar rats were divided into two groups: sedentary or exercised fathers. The paternal preconception exercise protocol consisted of treadmill running, 20 minutes daily, 5 consecutive days per week for 22 days, while the mothers were not trained. After mating, paternal sperm was collected for global DNA methylation analysis. At postnatal day 53, the offspring were euthanized, and the hippocampus was dissected to measure cell survival by 5-bromo-2′-deoxiuridine and to determine the expression of synaptophysin, reelin, brain-derived neurotrophic factor and global DNA methylation levels. To measure spatial memory and learning changes in offspring, the Morris water maze paradigm was used. There was an improvement in spatial learning, as well as a significant decrease in hippocampal global DNA methylation levels in the offspring from exercised fathers compared with those from sedentary ones; however, no changes were observed in neuroplasticity biomarkers brain-derived neurotrophic factor, reelin and 5-bromo-2′-deoxiuridine. Finally, the global DNA methylation of paternal sperm was not significantly changed by physical exercise. These results suggest a link between paternal preconception physical activity and cognitive benefit, which may be associated with hippocampal epigenetic programming in male offspring. | 6 | Therapeutic effectiveness of a single exercise session combined with WalkAide functional electrical stimulation in post-stroke patients:a crossover design study显示文摘A growing body of evidence has suggested that the imbalance of epigenetic markers and oxidative stress appears to be involved in the pathophysiology and progression of stroke.Thus,strategies that modulate these biomarkers might be considered targets for neuroprotection and novel therapeutic opportunities for these patients.Physical exercise has been reported to induce changes in these epigenetic markers and improve clinical outcomes in different populations.However,little is reported on this in post-stroke patients.The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a single exercise session with WalkAide functional electrical stimulation(FES)on cognitive performance,clinical functional parameters,oxidative stress and epigenetic modulation in post-stroke individuals.In this crossover design study,12 post-stroke individuals aged 54–72 years of either sexes were included and subjected to a single session of exercise(45 minutes)without WalkAide functional electrical stimulation(EXE alone group),followed by another single session of exercise(45 minutes)with WalkAide functional electrical stimulation(EXE+FES group).The clinical functional outcome measures,cognitive performance and blood collections for biomarker measurements were assessed pre-and post-intervention.After intervention,higher Berg Balance Scale scores were obtained in the EXE+FES group than in the EXE alone group.There was no significant difference in the Timed Up and Go test results post-intervention between EXE alone and EXE+FES groups.After intervention,a better cognitive performance was found in both groups compared with before the intervention.After intervention,the Timed Up and Go test scores were higher in the EXE+FES group than in the EXE alone group.In addition,the intervention induced lower levels of lipid peroxidation.After intervention,carbonyl level was lower,superoxide dismutase activity and superoxide dismutase/catalase activity ratio were higher in the EXE+FES group,compared with the EXE group alone.In each group,both histone deacetylase(HDAC2)and histone acetyltransferase activities were increased after intervention compared with before the intervention.These findings suggest that a single exercise session with WalkAide FES is more effective on balance ability and cognitive performance compared with conventional exercise alone in post-stroke patients.This is likely to be related to the regulation of oxidative stress markers.The present study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Methodist University Center-IPA(approval No.2.423.376)on December 7,2017 and registered in the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials—ReBEC(RBR-9phj2q)on February 11,2019. | Viviane Rostirola Elsner Lucieli Trevizol Isadora de Leon Marcos da Silva ThaynáWeiss Milena Braga Daniela Pochmann Amanda Stolzenberg Blembeel Caroline Dani Elenice Boggio | 2021 | Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,5: | 3 |
| 7 | Distinct antifibrogenic effects of erlotinib,sunitinib and sorafenib on rat pancreatic stellate cells显示文摘AIM:To study if three clinically available small molecule kinase inhibitors(SMI),erlotinib,sunitinib and sorafenib,exert antifibrogenic effects on pancreatic stellate cells(PSC)and analyze the basis of their action.METHODS:Cultured rat PSC were exposed to SMI.Cell proliferation and viability were assessed employing 5-bromo-2’-deoxyuridine incorporation assay and flow cytometry,respectively.2-Deoxy-2-[18F]fluoroglucose(18F-FDG)uptake was measured to study metabolic activity.Exhibition of the myofibroblastic PSC phenotype was monitored by immunofluorescence analysis ofα-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA)expression.Levels of mRNA were determined by real-time PCR,while protein expression and phosphorylation were analyzed by immunoblotting.Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)levels in culture supernatants were quantified by ELISA.RESULTS:All three SMI inhibited cell proliferation and18F-FDG uptake in a dose-dependent manner and without significant cytotoxic effects.Furthermore,additive effects of the drugs were observed.Immunoblot analysis showed that sorafenib and sunitib,but not erlotinib,efficiently blocked activation of the AKT pathway,while all three drugs displayed little effect on phosphorylation of ERK1/2.Cells treated with sorafenib or sunitinib expressed less interleukin-6 mRNA as well as less collagen type 1 mRNA and protein.Sorafenib was the only drug that also upregulated the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and reduced the secretion of TGF-β1 protein.All three drugs showed insignificant or discordant effects on the mRNA and protein levels ofα-SMA.CONCLUSION:The tested SMI,especially sorafenib,exert inhibitory effects on activated PSC,which should be further evaluated in preclinical studies. | Anne Elsner Falko Lange Brit Fitzner Martin Heuschkel Bernd Joachim Krause Robert Jaster | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,24: | 2 |
