| 1 | Screening of Rice Cultivars for Morpho-Physiological Responses to Early-Season Soil Moisture Stress显示文摘The majority of rice(Oryza sativa L.) produced in the southern USA is drill-seeded and grown under upland-like conditions because permanent flooding is established after the four-leaf stage. Therefore, rice during the seedling growth stage will be subjected to variable soil moisture content. A greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of 15 rice cultivars commonly grown in Mississippi of USA under early-season soil moisture stress. Twenty morpho-physiological parameters of rice seedlings subjected to three different levels(100%, 66% and 33% field capacity) of soil moisture, from 10 to 30 d after sowing, were measured. Significant moisture stress × treatment interaction(P < 0.001) was observed for most of the parameters. Further, the total drought response index(TDRI) was developed to score the cultivars for drought tolerance with the variation from 26.88 to 36.21. Accordingly, the cultivars were classified into different groups of tolerance. The cultivars CL152 and CL142-AR were classified as the least and the most tolerant to drought based on TDRI and standard deviation, respectively. Even though both total root(R^2 = 0.98) or shoot(R^2 = 0.76) drought responses indices were positively correlated with TDRI, root traits were important in deriving the indices. Therefore, TDRI could be used to select cultivars for drought tolerance in a given environment and develop rice varieties with early-season drought tolerance. | 14 | Historical Scope of Seasonal Influenza A and B Infections in Cuba and Their Impact on Mortality in the Elderly,1983-2005显示文摘Background:Influenza causes high mortality in the elderly.Its behavior has not been studied regularly in tropical and subtropical countries,like Cuba.The purposes of this study were to understand the circulation type and subtype of the influenza virus and to obtain evidence of their relationship with underlying P&I deaths in persons aged 65 years or older.Methods:A retrospective study was carried out with 7,252 positive sera from influenza A(H3N2),A(H1N1)or from type B by hemagglutination inhibition assay from 1983-1984 and 2004-2005 seasons,which created three series with the type/subtype prevalence percentages corresponding to the total of positive cases.The relationship between mortality by pneumonia and influenza in people aged 65 years or more was determined by calculating its mean rates when the type/subtype prevalence was above the median or not.Results:The circulation pattern of these viruses in Cuba was defined,and predominance of A(H3N2)in the 77%of seasons was corroborated.The mean rate of mortality increased 24.4%(p<0.001)when any pair of virus was above its medians and for the subtype A(H3N2)the increase was of 14.6%(p<0.05).Conclusions:For the first time the Health Authorities of Cuba received a“native”pattern on the circulation of influenza viruses in the period studied,showing increases in mortality for underlying pneumonia and influenza in people aged 65 years or older when the A(H3N2)or any pair of viruses were above their means and underscoring the need for better prevention measures and vaccination programs for elderly people in our country. | Oropesa Fernández Suset Gonzalez Ochoa Edilberto Alonso Ismell Savón Valdés Clara Armas Luisa Arencibia García Amely Gonzalez Munoz Grehete Martínez Motas Isabel Hernández Espinosa Bárbara Gonzalez Baéz Gelsys Roque Arrieta Rosmery | 2019 | Journal of US-China Medical Science2019，16，1： | 0 |

| 16 | On the Singular Effects in the Relativistic Landau Levels in Graphene with a Disclination显示文摘The effect of a pseudo Aharonov-Bohm(AB) magnetic field generated by a disclination on a two-dimensional electron gas in graphene is addressed in the continuum limit within the geometric approach. The influence of the coupling between the spinor fields and the singular conical curvature is investigated, which shows that singularities have pronounced impact in the Hall conductivity. Moreover, the degeneracy related to the Dirac valleys is broken for negative values of the angular momentum quantum numbers, ?, including ? ≡ 0. In this case, a Hall plateau develops at the null filling factor. Obtaining the Hall conductivity by summing over the positive and the negative ?′s, the null Landau level is recovered and the plateau at the null filling factor disappears.
