2Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: biology, diagnosis, and treatment显示文摘Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs), a group of endocrine tumors arising in the pancreas, are among the most common neuroendocrine tumors. The genetic causes of familial and sporadic PNETs are somewhat understood, but their molecular pathogenesis remains unknown. Most PNETs are indolent but have malignant potential. The biological behavior of an individual PNET is unpredictable; higher tumor grade, lymph node and liver metastasis, and larger tumor size generally indicate a less favorable prognosis. Endocrine testing, imaging, and histological evidence are necessary to accurately diagnose PNETs. A 4-pronged aggressive treatment approach consisting of surgery, locoregional therapy, systemic therapy, and complication control has become popular in academic centers around the world. The optimal application of the multiple systemic therapeutic modalities is under development; efficacy, safety, availability, and cost should be considered when treating a specific patient. 3Comparison of ultrasound-measured properties of the common carotid artery to tobacco smoke exposure in a cohort of Indonesian patients显示文摘BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to use point-of-care ultrasound(POCUS) to investigate the relationship between tobacco smoke exposure and the characteristics of the common carotid artery(CCA). The effect of both primary and secondary smoking on CCA properties was evaluated.METHODS: We performed a prospective cross-sectional study across 20 primary care clinics in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia in July 2016. Point of care ultrasound was performed on a convenience sample of Indonesian patients presenting to clinic. The CCA wall stiffness and carotid intima-media thickness(CIMT) were measured during diastole and systole. These measurements were correlated with smoke exposure and cardiovascular disease.RESULTS: We enrolled 663 patients in the study, with 426 patients enrolled in the smoking category and 237 patients enrolled in the second-hand smoke category. There was an overall positive correlation with the measured lifestyle factors and the ultrasound-measured variables in the group of individuals who smoked. For all variables, age seemed to contribute the most out of all of the lifestyle factors for the positive changes in CIMT and CCA wall stiffness.CONCLUSION: Our data yielded correlations between CCA properties and cardiovascular risk, as well as between CIMT and arterial stiffness. We were also able to demonstrate an increase in thickness of the CIMT in patients who have been exposed by tobacco through the use of ultrasound. 4Photoluminescence properties of Eu3+-doped MgAl2O4 nanoparticles in various surrounding media显示文摘Eu3+-doped MgAl2O4 nanoparticles were prepared by modified Pechini method.X-ray diffraction analysis shows pure tetragonal spinel phase without any impurities.The average size of synthesized nanoparticles was determined to be about 50-60 nm using scanning electron microscopy and static light scattering techniques.Emission and excitation spectra as well as lifetimes of MgAl2O4:Eu3+ nanophosphors were explored in surrounding media with different refractive indexes.Surrounding medium does not affect luminescence bands position,whereas 5D0 lifetime monotonically decreases along with increase of medium refractive index.Effect of surrounding media on radiative and nonradiative decay rates,which were calculated using 4f-4f intensity theory,was studied and discussed.Filling factor of prepared nanoparticles is defined using both radiative and observed lifetimes.I.E.Kolesnikov E.V.Golyeva E.V.Borisov E.Yu Kolesnikov E.Lahderanta A.V.Kurochkin M.D.Mikhailov 2019Journal of Rare Earths2019,37,8:1

7Inflammatory conversion of quiescent osteoblasts by metastatic breast cancer cells through pERKl/2 aggravates cancer-induced bone destruction显示文摘Disruption of bone homeostasis caused by metastatic osteolytic breast cancer cells increases inflammatory osteolysis and decreases bone formation,thereby predisposing patients to pathological fracture and cancer growth.Alteration of osteoblast function induces skeletal diseases due to the disruption of bone homeostasis.We observed increased activation of pERK1/2 in osteolytic breast cancer cells and osteoblasts in human pathological specimens with aggressive osteolytic breast cancer metastases.We confirmed that osteolytic breast cancers with high expression of pERK1/2 disrupt bone homeostasis via osteoblastic ERK1/2 activation at the bone-breast cancer interface.The process of inflammatory osteolysis modulates ERK1/2 activation in osteoblasts and breast cancer cells through dominant-negative MEK1 expression and constitutively active MEK1 expression to promote cancer growth within bone.Trametinib,an FDA-approved MEK inhibitor,not only reduced breast cancer-induced bone destruction but also dramatically reduced cancer growth in bone by inhibiting the inflammatory skeletal microenvironment.Taken together,these findings suggest that ERK1/2 activation in both breast cancer cells and osteoblasts is required for osteolytic breast cancer-induced inflammatory osteolysis and that ERK1/2 pathway inhibitors may represent a promising adjuvant therapy for patients with aggressive osteolytic breast cancers by altering the shared cancer and bone microenvironment.Jungho Back Minh Nam Nguyen Lu Li Saelim Lee Inkyu Lee Fancheng Chen Lauren Gillinov Yeon-Ho Chung Kareme D.Alder Hyuk-Kwon Kwon Kristin E.Yu Christopher M.Dussik Ziehen Hao Michael J.Flores Yoseph Kim Izuchukwu K.Ibe Alana M.Munger Sung Wook Seo Francis Y.Lee 2021Bone Research2021,9,4:0
