| 1 | Effects of lactic acid bacteria isolated from fermented mustard on lowering cholesterol显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the ability of lactic acid bacteria(LAB)strains isolated from fermented mustard to lower the cholesterol in vitro.Methods:The ability of 50 LAB strains isolated from fermented mustard on lowering cholesterol in vitro was determined by modified o-phtshalaldehyde method.The LAB isolates were analyzed for their resistance to acid and bile salt.Strains with lowering cholesterol activity,were determined adherence to Caco-2 cells.Results:Strain B0007,B0006 and B0022 assimilated more cholesterol than BCRC10474 and BCRC17010.The isolated strains showed tolerance to pH 3.0 for 3h despite variations in the degree of viability and bile-tolerant strains,with more than 10~s CFU/mL after incubation for 24 h at 1%oxigall in MRS.In addition,strain B0007 and B0022 identified as Lactobacillus plantarum with 16S rDNA sequences were able to adhere to the Caco-2 cell lines.Conclusions:These strains B0007 and B0022 may be potential functional sources for cholesterollowering activities as well as adhering to Caco-2 cell lines. | Shu Chen Wang Chen Kai Chang Shu Chang Chan Jiunn Shiuh Shieh Chih Kwang Chiu Pin-Der Duh | 2014 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014，4，7： | 10 |
| 2 | Promoting catalytic ozonation of phenol over graphene through nitrogenation and Co_3O_4 compositing显示文摘Catalytic ozonation is progressively becoming an attractive technique for quick water purification but efficient and stable catalysts remains elusive. Here we solvothermally synthesized highly-dispersed Co_3O_4 nanocrystals over microscale nitrogen-doping graphene(NG) nanosheets and tested it as a synthetic catalyst in the ozonation of phenol in aqueous solutions. Transmission electron microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to determine its morphology, crystallinity, elemental composition and molecular bonds, respectively.The comparative experiments confirmed the highest catalytic activity and oxidation degree(AOSC) of Co_3O_4/NG among four nanocomposites(G, NG, Co_3O_4/G, and Co_3O_4/NG). Co_3O_4/NG also has exhibited the highest degradation rate: complete conversion of a near-saturated concentration of phenol(941.1 mg/L) was achieved within 30 min under ambient conditions with only a small dosage of Co_3O_4/NG(50 mg/L) and ozone(4 mg/L, flow rate:0.5 L/min). It also resulted in 34.6% chemical oxygen demand(COD_(Cr)) and 24.2% total organic carbon(TOC) reduction. In this work, graphene nanosheets not only functioned as a support for Co_3O_4 nanocrystals but also functioned as a co-catalyst for the enhancement in phenol removal efficiency. The surface nitridation and Co_3O_4 modification treatment further improved the removal rate of the phenol pollutants and brought in the higher oxidation degree. | 3 | Human herpesvirus-8 positive iatrogenic Kaposi's sarcoma in the setting of refractory ulcerative colitis显示文摘Although Kaposi sarcoma(KS) has been more traditionally considered an AIDS-defining illness,it may also be seen in individuals on immunosuppresive therapy.We report a case of a patient who presented to the hospital in the setting of increasingly refractory ulcerative colitis.Computed tomography scan of the abdomen was consistent with sigmoid diverticulititis and blood cultures were positive for Klebsiella.After a course of antibiotics with resolution of infection,a colonoscopy was performed to evaluate his diverticulitis and incidentally revealed a new rectal tumor.Immunohistochemistry showed the tumor was consistent with KS,with cells staining strongly positive for human herpesvirus-8.This case not only illustrates a rare case of KS found in an HIV-negative individual,but it also highlights the importance of considering an alternative diagnosis in a patient refractory to medical treatment.We discuss the management and care of an ulcerative colitis patient diagnosed with KS on immunosuppressive therapy. | Erica Duh Sean Fine | 2017 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2017，5，12： | 3 |
| 4 | Effect of lactic acid bacteria isolated from fermented mustard on immunopotentiating activity显示文摘Objective: To investigate the effect of lactic acid bacteria isolated from fermented mustard on immunopotentiating activity Methods: One hundred and fifty nine strains of lactic acid bacteria isolated from traditional Taiwan fermented mustard were evaluated for their immunopotentiating activity on a murine macrophage cell line RAW 264.7.Results: Of the strains, pronounced increases in the levels of nitric oxide(NO), tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 were observed in strains B0040, B0110 and B0145. Among them,strain B0145 had the highest NO and tumor necrosis factor-α generation in RAW 264.7 cells;strains B0040 and B0110 were also superior to that of Lactobacillus casei. These results demonstrated that NO and cytokines were effectively induced when the bacterial stimulants were treated with macrophages.
