2Effects of herbivore-induced rice volatiles on the host selection behavior of brown planthopper,Nilaparvata lugens显示文摘It has been suggested that herbivore would react to volatiles produced by herbivore infested plant due to potential change, either positive or negative, in the acceptability of the host plant. This hypothesis was tested for the brown planthopper (BPH) in the laboratory. Sixteen components of the headspace volatiles from rice seedlings with different treatments were collected with SPME and Tenax-TA trap and analyzed with GC and GC-MS. Significant differences in volatile emissions were observed for rice plants with different treatments. Undamaged control plants, mechanically damaged plants and the plants infested by BPH for 1 or 2 d emitted much lower amounts of volatiles compared to the plants infested by BPH for 3 or 5 d. The plants infested by BPH for 3 or 5 d emitted several volatiles that were not detected in undamaged control plants, mechanically damaged plants or the plants infested by BPH for 1 or 2 d. 3Apoptosis of Spodoptera litura larval hemocytes induced byheavy metal zinc显示文摘By adding different amount of zinc into the artificial medium of the insect larvae, the zinc-induced apoptosis of the larvae haemocytes of the herbivorous insect Spodoptera litura Fabricius was investigated with flow cy- tometer. The results showed that the increase of zinc dose in the artificial feed led to the accumulations of zinc in the lar- val hemolymph and fat body, and more zinc was accumu- lated in fat body than in hemolymph. The apoptosis of hemocytes was significantly induced at high zinc concentra- tion (1000 mg·kg?1) in the insect diet, and the apoptosis rate was 63.63%, which was remarkably higher than that at con- trol and lower concentrations (50―500 mg·kg?1). 4Studies on the pathogenic bacterium of ulcer disease in Epinephelus awoara显示文摘Studies were conducted to determine the cause of the acute mortality of cage-cultured Epinephelus awoara in the Tong’an Bay of Xiamen, China during the summer of 2002. Predominant bacteria strain TS- 628 was isolated from the diseased grouper. The virulence test confirmed that TS- 628 was the pathogenic bacterium. Biochemical characteristics of the isolates were determined using the automatic bacterial identification system and standard tube tests. To further confirm the identification, a 1 121 bp 16S rRNA gene sequence of the isolate was amplified by PCR, which had been deposited into Genbank (accession number: AY747308). According to the biochemical characteristics and by comparing the 16S rRNA gene homology of the isolate, the pathogenic bacterium was identified as Vibrio harveyi. 5Temperature and substrate availability regulate soil respiration in the tropical mountain rainforests,Hainan Island,China显示文摘Aims Tropical forest plays a key role in global C cycle;however,there are few studies on the C budget in the tropical rainforests in Asia.This study aims to(i)reveal the seasonal patterns of total soil respiration(R_(T)),litter respiration(R_(L))and soil respiration without surface organic litter(R_(NL))in the primary and secondary Asian tropical mountain rainforests and(ii)quantify the effects of soil temperature,soil moisture and substrate availability on soil respiration.Methods The seasonal dynamics of soil CO_(2) efflux was measured by an automatic chamber system(Li-8100),within the primary and secondary tropical mountain rainforests located at the Jianfengling National Reserve in Hainan Island,China.The litter removal treatment was used to assess the contribution of litter to belowground CO_(2) production.Important Findings The annual R_(T) was higher in the primary forest(16.73±0.87 Mg C ha−1)than in the secondary forest(15.10±0.26 Mg C ha−1).The rates of R_(T),R_(NL) and R_(L) were all significantly higher in the hot and wet season(May–October)than those in the cool and dry season(November–April).Soil temperature at 5cm depth could explain 55–61%of the seasonal variation in R_(T),and the temperature sensitivity index(Q_(10))ranked by R_(L)(Q_(10)=3.39)>R_(T)(2.17)>R_(NL)(1.76)in the primary forest and by R_(L)(4.31)>R_(T)(1.86)>R_(NL)(1.58)in the secondary forest.The contribution of R_(L) to R_(T) was 22–23%,while litter input and R_(T) had 1 month time lag.In addition,the seasonal variation of R_(T) was mainly determined by soil temperature and substrate availability.Our findings suggested that global warming and increased substrate availability are likely to cause considerable losses of soil C in the tropical forests.Zhang Zhou Lai Jiang Enzai Du Huifeng Hu Yide Li Dexiang Chen Jingyun Fang 2013Journal of Plant Ecology2013,6,5:8
6Total phenolic, flavonoid content, and antioxidant activity of flour, noodles, and steamed bread made from different colored wheat grains by three milling methods显示文摘The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of wheat variety, food processing, and milling method on antioxidant properties. Black wheat variety Heibaoshi 1 had the highest total phenolic content(659.8 μg gallic acid equivalents g-1), total flavonoid content(319.3 μg rutin equivalents g-1), and antioxidant activity, whereas light purple wheat variety Shandongzimai 1 had the lowest total flavonoid content(236.2 μg rutin equivalents g-1) and antioxidant activity. Whole wheat flour and partially debranned grain flour had significantly higher total phenolic contents, total flavonoid contents, and antioxidant activity than refined flour(P < 0.05). Compared with flour, total phenolic contents, total flavonoid contents and antioxidant activity decreased in noodles and steamed bread, whereas noodles had slightly higher total phenolic and flavonoid content than steamed bread. Antioxidant activities(by ferric reducing ability of plasma assay) of steamed bread made from whole wheat flour, partially debranned grain flour, and refined flour were 23.5%, 21.1%, and 31.6% lower, respectively, than the corresponding values of flour. 7Feed conversion ratio,residual feed intake and cholecystokinin type A receptor gene polymorphisms are associated with feed intake and average daily gain in a Chinese local chicken population显示文摘Background: The feed conversion ratio(FCR) and residual feed intake(RFI) are common indexes in measuring feed efficiency for livestock. RFI is a feed intake adjusted for requirements for maintenance and production so these two traits are related. Similarly, FCR is related to feed intake and weight gain because it is their ratio. Cholecystokinin type A receptor(CCKAR) plays an important role in animal digestive process. We examined the interplay of these three parameters in a local Chinese chicken population.Results: The feed intake(FI) and body weights(BW) of 1,841 individuals were monitored on a daily basis from 56 to 105 d of age. There was a strong correlation between RFI and average daily feed intake(ADFI) and a negative correlation between the FCR and daily gain(r_g=-0.710). Furthermore, we identified 51 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) in the CCKAR and 4 of these resulted in amino acid mutations. The C334A mutation was specifically associated with FI and the expected feed intake(EFI)(P < 0.01) and significantly associated with the average daily gain(ADG)(P < 0.05). G1290A was significantly associated with FI and EFI(P < 0.05).Conclusion: FCR is apply to weight selecting, and RFI is more appropriate if the breeding focus is feed intake. 8Fabric Defect Detection Using Independent Component Analysis and Phase Congruency显示文摘A novel method based on independent component analysis and phase congruency is proposed for detecting defects in textile fabric images. By independent component, we can obtain textile structural features of fabric-free images. By phase congruency, structure information is reduced, which can distinguish the defect region from the defect-free regions. Finally, we have the detecting result from binary image which is obtained by a threshold step. 9Parallelizing of macro-scale pseudo-particle modeling for particle-fluid systems显示文摘A parallel algorithm suitable for simulating multi-sized particle systems and multi- phase fluid systems is proposed based on macro-scale pseudo-particle modeling (MaPPM). The algorithm employs space-decomposition of the computational load among the processing ele- ments (PEs) and multi-level cell-subdivision technique for particle indexing. In this algorithm, a 2D gas-solid system is simulated with the temporal variations of drags on solids, inter-phase slip velocities and solids concentration elaborately monitored. 10Involvement of Jasmonate- signaling pathway in the herbivore-induced rice plant defense显示文摘The expression patterns of eight defense- related genes in the herbivore-infested and jasmonate- treated (jasmonic acid, JA and its derivative MeJA) rice leaves were analyzed using RT-PCR. The results showed that Spodoptera litura Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) herbi-vory induced the expression of lipoxygenase (LOX) and al-lene oxide synthase (AOS) genes that are involved in the jasmonate-signaling pathway. Moreover, S. litura damage resulted in the expression of farnesyl pyrophosphate syn-thase (FPS), Bowman-birk proteinase inhibitor (BBPI), phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and other rice defense- related genes that were also induced by aqueous JA treat-ment or gaseous MeJA treatment. These indicated that in rice leaves, the JA-related signaling pathway was involved in the S. litura-induced chemical defense. Mechanical damage and brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (St錶) (Homoptera: Delphacidae) damage induced the expression of LOX gene, but both treatments did not induce the expression of AOS gene. However, BPH damage induced the expression of acidic pathogen-related protein 1 (PR-1a), Chitinase (PR-3), and PAL genes, which is involved in the salicylate- signaling pathway. 11Effects of polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharide on learning and memory in a scopolamine-induced mouse model of dementia显示文摘BACKGROUND: Learning and memory processes are accompanied by complex neuropathological and biochemical changes. Free radicals play an important role in learning and memory damage. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharide (PSP) in comparison with vitamin E on inhibiting free radical damage, as well as improving the degree of cerebral ischemia and learning and memory in a scopolamine-induced mouse model of dementia. DESIGN: Randomized controlled animal study. SETTINGS: Department of Pharmacology, Taishan Medical College; Shandong Jewim Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. MATERIALS: A total of 105 healthy Kunming mice, comprising 90 males and 15 females that were clean grade, were provided by the Animal Center of Taishan Medical College. PSP (extracted and purified by Huangjing, Taishan) was provided by the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taishan Medical College (purity of 79.6% by using a phenol-concentrated sulphate acid method), and hydrogen bromine acid scopolamine injection solution (SCO) by Shanghai Hefeng Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. METHODS: This study was performed at the Pharmacological Laboratory of Taishan Medical College from March to June 2007. ① A total of 75 healthy Kunming male mice of clean grade were randomly divided into a normal control group, positive control group, and low-dosage and high-dosage PSP groups, with 15 mice in each group. Mice in both the low-dosage and high-dosage PSP groups were intragastrically administered 0.5 g/kg and 2.0 g/kg PSP, respectively. Mice in the positive control group were intragastrically administered 0.5 g/kg vitamin E. In addition, mice in both the normal control group and model group were intragastrically administered the same volume of saline, respectively, once a day for 7 consecutive days. One hour after the final administration on day 6, mice in the positive control group, model group, low-dosage and high-dosage PSP groups were subcutaneously injected with 3.0 mg/kg SCO, while mice in the normal control group were subcutaneously injected with the same volume of distilled water. Ten minutes later, the step test was employed to measure memory. The training was performed 5 times, with 30-minute intervals between 2 sets. If the mice remained on the platform (latent period) for 30 minutes, they were determined to have learned the task. An eligible percentage was then recorded. Twenty-four hours later, the number of error responses from each mouse was recorded in a 5-minute period, based on the above-mentioned parameters. Mice were sacrificed under anesthesia. The activities of glutathione hyperoxide enzyme (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) were assayed using an UV spectrophotometer. ② The remaining 30 healthy Kunming mice of both genders were randomly divided into 3 groups, including control group, low-dosage PSP group, and high-dosage PSP group, with 10 mice in each group. Mice in both the low-dosage and high-dosage PSP groups were intragastrically administered 0.5 g/kg and 2.0 g/kg PSP, respectively, while the mice in the control group were perfused with the same volume of saline. Forty minutes later, the mice under superficial anesthesia were decapitated, and the number and duration of mouth-opening breaths of the isolated mouse head were immediately recorded. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: ① Numbers of error responses within 5 minutes on the platform. ② GSH-Px and SOD activity, as well as MDA content in mouse brain tissue. ③ Numbers and duration of mouth-opening breaths of the isolated mouse head. RESULTS: Of the 105 Kunming experimental mice, two mice died due to electric shock during the step-down test, therefore, a total of 103 mice were involved in the final analysis. ① Effects of PSP on learning in mice: The eligible percentage in the high-dosage PSP group was higher than the control group at the 3rd and 5th training sessions (P < 0.05). ② Effects of PSP on memory in mice: The number of errors in the step-down test in the model group was higher than in the normal control group (P < 0.01). Compared tothe model group, the number of errors in the step-down test was lower in both the low-dosage and high-dosage PSP groups (P < 0.01). ③ Effects of PSP on amount of GSH-Px, SOD, and MDA in mouse brain tissue: SOD and GSH-Px activity was higher in both the low-dosage and high-dosage PSP groups than in the model group. MDA content was lower in the high-dosage PSP group, compared to the model group. GSH-Px activity in the brain tissue of the high-dosage PSP group was similar to the positive control group (P > 0.05). ④ Effects of PSP on acute cerebral ischemia in mice: The low-dosage PSP, and in particular the high-dosage PSP, prolonged the number and duration of mouth-opening breaths of the isolated mouse head (P < 0.05, 0.01). CONCLUSION: PSP can improve learning and memory in a scopolamine-induced mouse model of dementia by reducing the damaging effects of cerebral ischemia and anti-oxidation. 12Facile microwave-assisted ionic liquid synthesis of sphere-like BiOBr hollow and porous nanostructures with enhanced photocatalytic performance显示文摘In this work, two kinds of self-assembled hierarchical BiOBr microcrystals were rapidly synthesized through a simple microwave-assisted route in the presence of reactable ionic liquid 1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide([C_(16)mim]Br). These porous and hollow BiOBr microspheres were obtained via a facile solvothermal method with or without polyvinyl pyrrolidone(PVP), respectively. During the synthetic process, ionic liquid [C_(16)mim]Br played as solvent, reactant and template at the same time. Moreover, the BiOBr hollow and porous microspheres exhibited outstanding photocatalytic activities for the degradation of rhodamine B(RhB) under visible light irradiation. A possible photocatalytic mechanism was also discussed in detail. 13Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for cerebral blood flow and electroencephalogram in patients with acute cerebral infarction Choice for therapeutic occasion显示文摘BACKGROUND: Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy increases blood oxygen content, changes cerebral blood flow (CBF) and cerebral metabolism. Its therapeutic effects on cerebrovascular disease have been fully confirmed, but the occasion for HBO therapy is still unclear. OBJECTIVE: To observe the therapeutic effects of HBO therapy at different time on CBF and electroencephalogram (EEG) in patients with acute cerebral infarction (CI). DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial. SETTING: Department of Neurology, Shidong Hospital, Yangpu District of Shanghai. PARTICIPANTS: Ninety-six inpatients with acute CI, admitted to Department of Neurology, Shidong Hospital, Yangpu District of Shanghai from January 2001 to December 2006, were involved in this experiment. The involved participants met the diagnosis criteria of acute CI and confirmed by skull CT or MRI. They all were patients with moderate CI (16–30 points) according to neurologic deficit score formulated by Chinese Medical Association. Informed consents of detected items and therapeutic regimen were obtained from all the involved participants. They were randomized into two groups with 48 in each: early-stage treatment group and advanced-stage treatment group. Among the 48 patients in the early-stage treatment group, 21 male and 27 female, aged 53–68 years, 22 patients were found with basal ganglia infarction, 10 with brain lobe infarction, 16 with multiple infarction, 27 accompanied with hypertension and 2 accompanied with diabetes mellitus. Among the 48 patients in the advanced-stage treatment group, 23 male and 25 female, aged 52–71 years, 25 patients were found with basal ganglia infarction, 10 with brain lobe infarction, 12 with multiple infarction, 1 with brain stem infarction, 28 accompanied with hypertension and 1 accompanied with diabetes mellitus. METHODS: After admission, patients of two groups received routine drug treatment. ① Patients in the early-stage treatment group and advanced-stage treatment group began to receive HBO therapy within one week of CI and 4 weeks after CI, respectively. The total course of treatment both was 2 weeks. EEG examination was carried out before and after therapy, and CBF was determined with 133Xe inhalation. ② Assessment criteria of curative effects: Basically cured: neurologic symptoms and body signs disappeared, could work and do housework; Markedly effective: score of neurologic deficit was decreased by over 21 points, could manage himself/herself partially; Effective: score of neurologic deficit was decreased by 8 to 12 points; Non-effective: Score was increased or decreased less than 8 points, neurologic deficit was worsened, even died. Total effective rate = (number of cured+number of markedly effective+number of effective)/ number of total cases×100%. ③ t test and Chi-square test were used for comparing the difference of measurement data and enumeration data respectively, and Ridit analysis was used for comparing the difference of clinical curative effects. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① Comparison of EEG and CBF of patients from two groups before and after treatment. ② Comparison of post-treatment neurologic deficit of patients between two groups. RESULTS: All the involved 96 patients with CI participated in the final analysis. ① Clinical symptoms of patients from two groups after therapy were significantly improved as compared with those before therapy, and curative effects of early treatment group were better than those of advanced treatment group (U =1.99, P < 0.05). ②After treatment, CBF in each region of brains, except for that in parietal lobe of patients in the advanced-stage treatment group, was significantly improved (P < 0.05–0.01); The improvement of CBF of patients in the early-stage treatment group was more obvious than that in the early-stage treatment group (P < 0.05–0.01). ③ The abnormal rate of EEF of patients from early-stage treatment group and advanced-stagetreatment group before treatment was 94% and 96%, respectively. After treatment, improvement rate of EEG of patients in the early-stage treatment group was 95%, which was significantly different from that in the advanced-stage treatment group (82%,χ2 =4.32,P < 0.05) CONCLUSION: HBO therapy both at early and advanced stages of CI (within 1 week and 4 weeks after CI attack) can improve CBF and EEG of patients with early CI, especially.Lei Chen Fei Li Dexiang Gu 2007Neural Regeneration Research2007,2,3:4

15Ice-wedge Pseudomorphs Showing Climatic Change Since the Late Pleistocene in the Source Area of the Yellow River, Northeast Tibet显示文摘The source area of the Yellow River is located in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau, and is a high-elevation region with the annual mean temperature of-3.9℃. The ice-wedge pseudomorphs discovered in this region are recognized as two types.One was found in sandy gravel beds of the second terrace of the Yellow River. This ice-wedge pseudomorph is characterized by higher ratio of breadth/depth, and are 1~1.4 m wide and about 1 m deep. The bottom border of the ice-wedge pseudomorph is round arc in section. Another discovered in the pedestal of the second terrace has lower ratio of width/depth, and is 0.3~1.0 m wide and 1~2 m deep. Its bottom border is sharp. Based on the TL dating, the former was formed at the middle Holocene (5.69±0.43 ka BP and 5.43±0.41 ka BP),that is, the Megathermal, and the latter was formed at the late Last Glacial Maximum (13.49± 1.43 ka BP).Additionally, the thawing-freezing folders discovered in the late Late Pleistocene proluvium are 39.83±3.84 ka BP in age. 16Eco-environment evolvement analysis of Ertan reservoir catchment based on remote sensing显示文摘Hydropower project may bring with it social-economic profits as well as side effects.The built dam and reservoir often cause some problems to the surrounding areas,among which the ecological and environmental effects caused by hydropower projects are always concerned by the public.In this article,we take the Ertan reservoir catchment as the research area and try to quantitatively analyze the variation of vegetation cover and soil erosion by remote sensing technique,and to comprehensively assess the evolvement and development trend of reservoir catchment.Soil erosion,land use/cover are used as ecological and environmental indicators which reflect the changes before,after and in the period of the construction of Ertan hydropower station.Supported by the multi-source remote sensing data(from satellite Landsat and CBERS) and DEM data,the land use/cover is interpreted through RS images which are classified both by unsupervised and supervised method,and the driving factors of the ecological changes are also analyzed.At the same time,the changes of soil loss are also monitored and analyzed during flood seasons of Ertan reservoir area before and after reservoir impoundment(1995,2000 and 2005) using the revised universal soil loss equation(RUSLE) .The results show that during the recent 13 years the arable land area has decreased obviously,and construction area and water surface have increased slightly.The increase of vegetation cover has some relations with the implementation of local ecological projects,i.e.,de-farming to forestry and de-farming to pasture projects.At the same time,changes may also be caused by the climate adjustment in the reservoir area.In the ten years from 1995 to 2005,the high soil loss classes were transforming to lowly level classes continuously.All of these show that the soil loss of Ertan reservoir area is getting better.PANG ZhiGuo ,GE DeXiang & FU Jun E State Key Laboratory of Simulation and Regulation of Water Cycle in River Basin,,China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research,Beijing 100048,China 2011Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,S1:3
