| 3 | Prognostic nutritional index predicts postoperative complications and long-term outcomes of gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To investigate the impact of prognostic nutritional index(PNI)on the postoperative complications and long-term outcomes in gastric cancer patients undergoing total gastrectomy.METHODS:The data for 386 patients with gastric cancer were extracted and analyzed between January2003 and December 2008 in our center.The patients were divided into two groups according to the cutoff value of the PNI:those with a PNI≥46 and those with a PNI<46.Clinicopathological features were compared between the two groups and potential prognostic factors were analyzed.The relationship between postoperative complications and PNI was analyzed by logistic regression.The univariate and multivariate hazard ratios were calculated using the Cox proportional hazard model.RESULTS:The optimal cutoff value of the PNI was set at 46,and patients with a PNI≥46 and those with a PNI<46 were classified into PNI-high and PNI-low groups,respectively.Patients in the PNI-low group were more likely to have advanced tumor(T),node(N),and TNM stages than patients in the PNI-high group.The low PNI is an independent risk factor for the incidence of postoperative complications(OR=2.223).The 5-year overall survival(OS)rates were 54.1%and21.1%for patients with a PNI≥46 and those with a PNI<46,respectively.The OS rates were significantly lower in the PNI-low group than in the PNI-high group among patients with stagesⅡ(P=0.001)andⅢ(P<0.001)disease.CONCLUSION:The PNI is a simple and useful marker not only to identify patients at increased risk for postoperative complications,but also to predict long-term survival after total gastrectomy.The PNI should be included in the routine assessment of advanced gastric cancer patients. | Nan Jiang Jing-Yu Deng Xue-Wei Ding Bin Ke Ning Liu Ru-Peng Zhang Han Liang | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,30: | 41 |

| 5 | Multispherical interactions and their effects on the Tibetan Plateau's earth system: a review of the recent researches显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau(TP) is a regional Earth system showing very strong interactions among its lithosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, and anthrosphere. hese interactions manifest TP's impact on surrounding regions and relect TP's response to the global change. Quantifying the multispherical interactions is critically important to understand the TP environment. Our recent years researches including the ongoing program entitled ‘Tibetan Multi-Spheres Interactions and heir Resource-Environment Signiicance(TIMI)', the completed program entitled. ‘Paleo-Altitudes of Tibetan Plateau and Environment(PATE)', as well as the other relating projects have focused on multidisciplinary research approaches and emphasized on three major pathways: Eurasia-Indian plates collision on deep-Earth dynamics, uplit impact on Earth's mantle–crust dynamics, and contemporary interface on land surface and atmospheric dynamics. Our researches have taken in situ measurement as priority and developed several platforms of data acquisition and analysis, including the platforms of water-phase transformations, and ecosystem observations. Our ield investigations have been conducted to obtain data about stratum, paleontology, paleoenvironment, genetic diferentiation of animals and plants. We have developed conceptual and mathematical models for crust uplit formation, paleoclimate, glacial melt,water–air interface lux, vegetation climate, and soil erosion. We have also assessed the anthropogenic impacts on environment. | 6 | On the Application of PCA Technique to Fault Diagnosis显示文摘In this paper, we briefly address the application of the standard principal component analysis (PCA) technique to fault detection and identification. Based on an analysis of the existing test statistic, we propose a new test statistic, which is similar to the Hawkin’s TH 2 statistic but without the numerical drawback. In comparison with the SPE index, the threshold setting associated with the new statistic is computationally simpler. Our further study is dedicated to the analysis of fault sensitivity. We consider the off-set and scaling faults, and evaluate the test statistic by viewing its sensitivity to the faults. Our final study focuses on identifying off-set and scaling faults. To this end, two algorithms are proposed. | 7 | Paleoaltimetry reconstructions of the Tibetan Plateau:progress and contradictions显示文摘Over the last two decades, many quantitative paleoaltimetry reconstructions of the Tibetan Plateau have been published, but they are still preliminary and controversial, although several approaches have been combined paleontology and geochemistry, including vertebrate, plant, and pollen fossils as well as oxygen,carbon, and hydrogen isotopes. he Tibetan Plateau is the youngest and highest plateau on Earth, and its paleoaltimetry reconstructions are crucial to interpret its geodynamic evolution and to understand the climatic changes in Asia. Uplit histories of the Tibetan Plateau based on diferent proxies difer considerably, and two viewpoints are pointedly opposing on the paleoaltimetry estimations of the Tibetan Plateau. One viewpoint is that the Tibetan Plateau did not strongly uplit to reach its modern elevation until the Late Miocene, but another one, mainly based on stable isotopes, argues that the Tibetan Plateau formed early during the Indo-Asian collision and reached its modern elevation in the Paleogene or by the Middle Miocene. With either a geochemical or paleontological approach, the present is used as the key to the past.However, there are great diiculties because modern processes of isotopic fractionation and species for creature distribution are not easily precisely determined. In addition, the climatic and environmental backgrounds of past geological times have massive diferences from the present, and associated adjustments are inluenced by many human factors. | 8 | Fatigue reliability assessment for bridge welded details using long-term monitoring data显示文摘A reliability assessment method of fatigue life based on the long-term monitoring data is developed for welded details in steel box girder,and the application research is presented with examples of welded rib-to-deck details in Runyang Bridges. Firstly the fatigue damage limit-state function is established based on S-N curves and Miner's rule,and the probability distribution characteristics of the coefficients in the function are discussed in detail. The uncertainties in fatigue loading effects are mainly studied based on long-term monitoring data. In the traditional studies,only the uncertainty of equivalent stress range is considered in fatigue reliability assessment. However,stress cycle number is also treated as a random variable in this paper because we know traffic flow every day differs in a thousand ways. Then the optimization method is employed to calculate the fatigue reliability. After studying the changing law of the reliability indices with time and the effect of the randomness of stress cycle number on reliability,the effect of the traffic growth on the reliability is studied. Autophagy is involved in tumors as well as neurodegenerative, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Recently, active compounds from traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) have been found to modulate the levels of autophagy in tumor cells, nerve cells, myocardial cells and endothelial cells. Ischemic stroke is a major cause of neurological disability and places a heavy burden on family and society. Regaining function can significantly reduce dependence and improve the quality of life of stroke survivors. In healthy cells, autophagy plays a key role in adapting to nutritional deprivation and eliminating aggregated proteins, however inappropriate activation of autophagy may lead to cell death in cerebral ischemia. | 10 | Neuroprotective effect of exogenous vascular endothelial growth factor on rat spinal cord neurons in vitro hypoxia显示文摘Background Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is well known as a hypoxia-induced protein. That it markedly increased expression of VEGF and improvement of rat motor function after spinal cord injury suggested that VEGF could play a neuroprotective role in ischaemic tolerance. This study investigated whether vascular endothelial growth factor has direct neuroprotective effects on rat spinal cord neurons. Methods We employed primary cultures of embryonic rat spinal cord neurons, then administrated different concentrations of VEGF164 in the culture medium before hypoxia when the number of neurons was counted and the cell viability was detected by MTT. The neuronal apoptosis and expression of VEGF and its receptor genes were evaluated by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP nick-end labelling (TUNEL) and immunohistochemistry. The VEGFR2/FLK-1 inhibitor, SU1498, was used to confirm whether the neuroprotective effect of VEGF was mediated through VEGFR2/Flk-1 receptors. Result In hypoxic conditions,the number and viability of neurons decreased progressively, while the number of TUNEL-positive cells increased along with the prolongation of hypoxic exposure. When the concentration of VEGF in cell culture medium reached 25 ng/ml, the cell viability increased 11% and neuronal apoptosis reduced to half, this effect was dose dependent and led to an approximately 25% increase in cell viability and about threefold decrease in TUNEL-positive cells at a maximally effective concentration of 100 ng/ml. In normal conditions, VEGF/Flk-1 but not VEGF/Flt-1 gene expressed at a low level: after hypoxia, the expression of VEGF/Flk-1, but not VEGF/Flt-1 was significantly increased. The protective effect of VEGF was blocked by the VEGFR2/Flk-1 receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, SU1498. | 11 | Portosplenomesenteric vein thrombosis in patients with early-stage severe acute pancreatitis显示文摘AIM To investigate the incidence and risk factors of portosplenomesenteric vein thrombosis(PSMVT) in the early stage of severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).METHODS Patients with SAP in a tertiary care setting from January 2014 to December 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. All contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT) studies were reassessed and reviewed. Clinical outcome measures were compared between SAP patients with and without PSMVT in the early stage of the disease. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were sequentially performed to assess potential risk factors for the development of PSMVT in SAP patients. A receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve was generated for the qualifying independent risk factors.RESULTS Twenty-five of the one hundred and forty(17.86%) SAP patients developed PSMVT 6.19 ± 2.43 d after acute pancreatitis(AP) onset. PSMVT was confirmed by contrast-enhanced CT. Multivariate stepwise logistic regression analyses showed that Balthazar's CT severity index(CTSI) scores [odds ratio(OR): 2.742; 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.664-4.519; P = 0.000], hypoalbuminemia(serum albumin level < 25 g/L)(OR: 32.573; 95%CI: 2.711-391.353; P = 0.006) and gastrointestinal wall thickening(OR: 4.367, 95%CI: 1.218-15.658; P = 0.024) were independent risk factors for PSMVT developed in patients with SAP. | 12 | Characteristics and prognosis of gastric cancer in patients aged ≥ 70 years显示文摘AIM:To elucidate the prognostic value of age for gastric cancer and identify the optimal treatment for elderly gastric cancer patients.METHODS:We enrolled 920 patients with gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy between January 2003and December 2007 in our center.Patients were categorized into three groups:younger group(age<50years),middle-aged group(50-69 years),and elderly group(≥70 years).Clinicopathological features were compared among the three groups and potential prognostic factors were analyzed.The log-rank test was used to assess statistical differences between curves.Independent prognostic factors were identified by the Cox proportional hazards regression model.Stratified analysis was used to investigate the impact of age on survival at each stage.Cancer-specific survival was also compared among the three groups by excluding deaths due to reasons other than gastric cancer.We analyzed the potential prognostic factors for patients aged≥70years.Finally,the impact of extent of lymphadenectomy and postoperative chemotherapy on survival for each age group was evaluated.RESULTS:In the elderly group,there was a male predominance.At the same time,cancers of the upper third of the stomach,differentiated type,and less-invasive surgery were more common than in the younger or middle-aged groups.Elderly patients were more likely to have advanced tumor-node-metastasis(TNM)stage and larger tumors,but less likely to have distant metastasis.Although 5-year overall survival(OS)rate specific to gastric cancer was not significantly different among the three groups,elderly patients demonstrated a significantly lower 5-year OS rate than the younger and middle-aged patients(elderly vs middle-aged vs younger patients=22.0%vs 36.6%vs 38.0%,respectively).In the TNM-stratified analysis,the differences in OS were only observed in patients withⅡandⅢtumors.In multivariate analysis,only surgical margin status,pT4,lymph node metastasis,M1 and sex were independent prognostic factors for elderly patients.The5-year OS rate did not differ between elderly patients undergoing D1 and D2 lymph node resection,and these patients benefited little from chemotherapy.CONCLUSION:Age≥70 years was an independent prognostic factor for gastric cancer after gastrectomy.D1 resection is appropriate and postoperative chemotherapy is possibly unnecessary for elderly patients with gastric cancer. | Yue-Xiang Liang Jing-Yu Deng Han-Han Guo Xue-Wei Ding Xiao-Na Wang Bao-Gui Wang Li Zhang Han Liang | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,39: | 20 |

Mitogen-activated protein kinase and nuclear factor kappa B signaling pathways may mediate neuroinflammation. Saponins from Panax japonicus are the most abundant and bioactive members in rhizomes of Panax japonicus, and show anti-inflammatory activity. However, it is not known whether saponin from Panax japonicus has an anti-inflammatory effect in the aging brain, and likewise its underlying mechanisms. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into control groups(3-, 9-, 15-, and 24-month-old groups) and saponins from Panax japonicus-treated groups. Saponins from Panax japonicus-treated groups were orally administrated saponins from Panax japonicus at three doses of 10, 30, and 60 mg/kg once daily for 6 months until the rats were 24 months old. Immunohistochemical staining and western blot assay results demonstrated that many microglia were activated in 24-month-old rats compared with 3-and 9-month-old rats. Expression of interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α, cyclooxygenase-2, and inducible nitric oxide synthase increased. Each dose of saponins from Panax japonicus visibly suppressed microglial activation in the aging rat brain, and inhibited expression levels of the above factors. Each dose of saponins from Panax japonicus markedly diminished levels of nuclear factor kappa B, IκBα, extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase, and p38. | 17 | A review of heavy-duty legged robots显示文摘Heavy-duty legged robots have been regarded as one of the important developments in the field of legged robots because of their high payload-total mass ratio,terrain adaptability,and multitasking.The problems associated with the development and use of heavy-duty legged robots have motivated researchers to conduct many important studies,covering topics related to the mechanical structure,force distribution,control strategy,energy efficiency,etc.Overall,heavy-duty legged robots have three main characteristics:greater body masses,larger body sizes,and higher payload-total mass ratios.Thus,various heavy-duty legged robots and their performances are reviewed here.This review presents the current developments with regard to heavy-duty legged robots.Also,the main characteristics of high-performance heavy-duty legged robots are determined and conclusions are drawn.Furthermore,the current research of key techniques of heavy-duty legged robots,including the mechanical structure,force distribution,control method,and power source,is described.To assess the transportation capacity of heavy-duty legged robots,performance evaluation parameters are proposed.Finally,problems that need further research are addressed. | ZHUANG HongChao GAO HaiBo DENG ZongQuan DING Liang LIU Zhen | 2014 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,2: | 15 |
| 18 | Effects of land uses on soil physic-chemical properties and erodibility in collapsing-gully alluvial fan of Anxi County,China显示文摘As a special kind of soil erosion that severely deteriorates the qualities of soil in granite regions,collapsing gully is widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical areas of South China.In particular,collapsing-gully erosion produces a large amount of sediment deposited on the plough layer of alluvial fan farmland and causes increase of desertification,great reduction of nutrients and rapid enhancement of erodibility in the soil.This study was designed to evaluate the effects of different land uses on the soil physic-chemical properties and erodibility of collapsing-gully alluvial fan.Our results show that the physical properties of soil in alluvial fan were greatly improved with smaller bulk density,increased soil porosity,strengthened water holding capacity and a higher particulate matter content.The chemical properties of soil were also significantly improved,including pH,cation exchange capacity,and the contents of organic matter,total and available nitrogen,potassium and phosphorus.All the land uses were proved to improve the soil properties,especially in the tea garden,vegetable land and paddy field.The results of correlation analyses among the properties demonstrate that the physical and chemical properties were significantly correlated,indicating that improving the soil physical properties is an effective method to increase the soil nutrient in the farmland of collapsing-gully alluvial fan.In addition,the application of land uses included grass land,eucalyptus forest land,vegetable land,tea garden,sweet potato land,and paddy field reduced the erodibility of the soil compare to bare land.The erodibility K values of soils in grass land,eucalyptus forest land,vegetable land,tea garden,sweet potato land,and paddy field were 14.43,16.97,45.45,33.12,18.94,and 34.01%lowerthan those of bare land,respectively.The results of multiple linear regression analysis show that the soil erodibility had a significant correlation with the physic-chemical properties,especially the soil texture and the content of organic matter.In conclusion,our results demonstrate that different land use patterns are effective to improve the quality of the soil in collapsing-gully alluvial fan,including the improvements of the soil structure,nutrients and anti-erosion ability.Ourfindings provide important implications for the soil improvement in the farmland of collapsing-gully alluvial fan. | DENG Yu-song XIA Dong CAI Chong-fa DING Shu-wen | 2016 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2016,15,8: | 15 |
| 19 | Correlation between women's sub-health and reproductive diseases with pregnancies and labors显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether female sub-health conditions and reproductive diseases areassociated with pregnancies and labors.METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was performed by using a structured questionnaire. A total of 1343 women aged 35 years or younger in six urban areas of Chengdu were included in the study.According to the Screening Criteria of sub-health conditions, these women were categorized into three groups: postpartum healthy group,sub-healthy group, and reproductive disease group. Data were double-entered using EpiData and the nanalyzed by SPSS.RESULTS: Pregnancy and labor were correlated with postpartum sub-health conditions. The number of pregnancies was negatively correlated with women's postnatal health but was positively correlated with the incidence of postpartum reproductive diseases.CONCLUSION: The number of pregnancies and labors is probably an important factor leading to sub-health conditions and the occurrence of reproductive diseases in women. | 20 | Impact of intraoperative blood loss on survival after curative resection for gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To elucidate the potential impact of intraoperative blood loss(IBL)on long-term survival of gastric cancer patients after curative surgery.METHODS:A total of 845 stageⅠ-Ⅲgastric cancer patients who underwent curative gastrectomy between January 2003 and December 2007 in our center were enrolled in this study.Patients were divided into 3groups according to the amount of IBL:group 1(<200mL),group 2(200-400 mL)and group 3(>400 mL).Clinicopathological features were compared among the three groups and potential prognostic factors were analyzed.The Log-rank test was used to assess statistical differences between the groups.Independent prognostic factors were identified by the Cox proportional hazards regression model.Stratified analysis was used to investigate the impact of IBL on survival in each stage.Cancer-specific survival was also compared among the three groups by excluding deaths due to reasons other than gastric cancer.Finally,we explored the possible factors associated with IBL and identified the independent risk factors for IBL≥200 mL.RESULTS:Overall survival was significantly influenced by the amount of IBL.The 5-year overall survival rates were 51.2%,39.4%and 23.4%for IBL less than 200mL,200 to 400 mL and more than 400 mL,respectively(<200 mL vs 200-400 mL,P<0.001;200-400 mL vs>400 mL,P=0.003).Age,tumor size,Borrmann type,extranodal metastasis,tumour-node-metastasis(TNM)stage,chemotherapy,extent of lymphadenectomy,IBL and postoperative complications were found to be independent prognostic factors in multivariable analysis.Following stratified analysis,patients staged TNMⅠ-Ⅱand those with IBL less than 200 mL tended to have better survival than those with IBL not less than 200mL,while patients staged TNMⅢ,whose IBL was less than 400 mL had better survival.Tumor location,tumor size,TNM stage,type of gastrectomy,combined organ resection,extent of lymphadenectomy and year of surgery were found to be factors associated with the amount of IBL,while tumor location,type of gastrectomy,combined organ resection and year of surgery were independently associated with IBL≥200 mL.CONCLUSION:IBL is an independent prognostic factor for gastric cancer after curative resection.Reducing IBL can improve the long-term outcome of gastric cancer patients following curative gastrectomy. | Yue-Xiang Liang Han-Han Guo Jing-Yu Deng Bao-Gui Wang Xue-Wei Ding Xiao-Na Wang Li Zhang Han Liang | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,33: | 14 |
