| 9 | Nonlinear energy harvesting from vibratory disc-shaped piezoelectric laminates显示文摘Implementing resonators with geometrical nonlinearities in vibrational energy harvesting systems leads to considerable enhancement of their operational bandwidths. This advantage of nonlinear devices in comparison to their linear counterparts is much more obvious especially at small-scale where transition to nonlinear regime of vibration occurs at moderately small amplitudes of the base excitation. In this paper the nonlinear behavior of a disc-shaped piezoelectric laminated harvester considering midplane-stretching effect is investigated. Extended Hamilton’s principle is exploited to extract electromechanically coupled governing partial differential equations of the system. The equations are firstly order-reduced and then analytically solved implementing perturbation method of multiple scales. A nonlinear finite element method(FEM) simulation of the system is performed additionally for the purpose of verification which shows agreement with the analytical solution to a large extent. The frequency response of the output power at primary resonance of the harvester is calculated to investigate the effect of nonlinearity on the system performance. Effect of various parameters including mechanical quality factor, external load impedance and base excitation amplitude on the behavior of the system are studied. Findings indicate that in the nonlinear regime both output power and operational bandwidth of the harvester will be enhanced by increasing the mechanical quality factor which can be considered as a significant advantage in comparison to linear harvesters in which these two factors vary in opposite ways as quality factor is changed. | Abdolreza Pasharavesh Reza Moheimani Hamid Dalir | 2020 | Theoretical & Applied Mechanics Letters2020,10,4: | 1 |
| 10 | Self-driven highly responsive p-n junction In Se heterostructure near-infrared light detector显示文摘Photodetectors converting light signals into detectable photocurrents are ubiquitously in use today. To improve the compactness and performance of next-generation devices and systems, low dimensional materials provide rich physics to engineering the light-matter interaction.Photodetectors based on two-dimensional(2D)material van der Waals heterostructures have shown high responsivity and compact integration capability, mainly in the visible range due to their intrinsic bandgap. The spectral region of near-infrared(NIR)is technologically important, featuring many data communication and sensing applications. While some initial NIR 2D material-based detectors have emerged, demonstrations of doping-junction-based 2D material photodetectors with the capability to harness the charge-separation photovoltaic effect are yet outstanding. Here,we demonstrate a 2D p-n van der Waals heterojunction photodetector constructed by vertically stacking p-type and n-type indium selenide(In Se)flakes. This heterojunction charge-separation-based photodetector shows a threefold enhancement in responsivity in the NIR spectral region(980 nm)as compared to photoconductor detectors based on p-or n-only doped In Se.We show that this junction device exhibits self-powered photodetection operation, exhibits few p A-low dark currents, and is about 3-4 orders of magnitude more efficient than the state-of-the-art foundry-based devices.Such capability opens doors for low noise and low photon flux photodetectors that do not rely on external gain.We further demonstrate millisecond response rates in this sensitive zero-bias voltage regime.Such sensitive photodetection capability in the technologically relevant NIR wavelength region at low form factors holds promise for several applications including wearable biosensors,three-dimensional(3D)sensing,and remote gas sensing. | CHANDRAMAN PATIL CHAOBO DONG HAO WANG BEHROUZ MOVAHHED NOURI SERGIY KRYLYUK HUAIRUO ZHANG ALBERT V.DAVYDOV HAMED DALIR VOLKER J.SORGER | 2022 | Photonics Research2022,10,7: | 1 |

| 15 | Effect of buried plates on scour profiles downstream of hydraulic jump in open channels with horizontal and reverse bed slopes显示文摘Local scour downstream of sluice gates in erosive beds is one of the main concerns of hydraulic engineers because it can cause considerable damage to structures. Many researchers have conducted various studies to predict the maximum depth and length of scour holes and to develop new methods to control this phenomenon. In the methods that have recently been examined, embedded buried plates are used to control the scour in the erosive beds.In this study, using a physical model, the effect of buried plates in erosive beds on the depth of scour downstream of a hydraulic jump was studied.Several experiments were performed in which plates were buried at 50° and 90° angles at different distances from the apron in open channels with horizontal and reverse bed slopes. The results of experiments in which the scour profiles were drawn in dimensionless forms show that the angle and position of the plates are important to controlling and reducing scour depth. In fact,by reducing the angle of buried plates, the maximum depth of scour is also reduced. Also, comparison of the results of a single buried plate and double buried plates shows that using two buried plates at the distances of 30 and 45 cm from the non-erodible bed is more effective in reducing the scour depth. The best distances of the buried plates with angles of 90° and 50° from the non-erodible bed are 45 cm and 30 cm,respectively,in the condition with a single buried plate. | Akram Abbaspour Sahar Parvini Ali Hosseinzadeh Dalir | 2016 | Water Science and Engineering2016,9,4: | 0 |
| 16 | Electrical programmable multilevel nonvolatile photonic random-access memory显示文摘Photonic Random-Access Memories(P-RAM)are an essential component for the on-chip non-von Neumann photonic computing by eliminating optoelectronic conversion losses in data links.Emerging Phase-Change Materials(PCMs)have been showed multilevel memory capability, but demonstrations still yield relatively high optical loss and require cumbersome WRITE-ERASE approaches increasing power consumption and system package challenges. Here we demonstrate a multistate electrically programmed low-loss nonvolatile photonic memory based on a broadband transparent phase-change material(Ge2Sb2Se5,GSSe)with ultralow absorption in the amorphous state.A zero-staticpower and electrically programmed multi-bit P-RAM is demonstrated on a silicon-on-insulator platform, featuring efficient amplitude modulation up to 0.2 dB/μm and an ultralow insertion loss of total 0.12 dB for a 4-bit memory showing a 100×improved signal to loss ratio compared to other phase-change-materials based photonic memories. We further optimize the positioning of dual microheaters validating performance tradeoffs.Experimentally we demonstrate a half-a-million cyclability test showcasing the robust approach of this material and device.Low-loss photonic retention-of-state adds a key feature for photonic functional and programmable circuits impacting many applications including neural networks,LiDAR,and sensors for example. | Jiawei Meng Yaliang Gui Behrouz Movahhed Nouri Xiaoxuan Ma Yifei Zhang Cosmin-Constantin Popescu Myungkoo Kang Mario Miscuglio Nicola Peserico Kathleen Richardson Juejun Hu Hamed Dalir Volker J.Sorger | 2023 | Light(Science & Applications)2023,12,11: | 0 |
