1Structural pattern of eastern Himalayan syntaxis in Namjagbarwa and its formation process显示文摘The structural pattern of the eastern Himalayan syntaxis in Namjagbarwa consists of two series of structures with different styles. One series compiles the earlier ductile contractional and lateral-slip deformation system, formed by nearly north-south shortening within the syntaxis, left-lateral and right-lateral slipping along its western and eastern boundaries respectively. They were possibly produced by the indentation of the Indian continent into Asian continent after India-Asia collision. The peak deformation-metamorphic ages in these structures are 62-60 Ma, ~23 Ma and ~13 Ma. The other series is composed of ductile-brittle normal faults distributing concentrically and dipping toward the outsides of Namjagbarwa Peak. 3The subducted slab of Yangtze Continental block beneath the Tethyan orogen in western Yunnan显示文摘The western Yunnan area is a natural laboratory with fully developed and best preserved Tethyan orogen in the world. Seismic tomography reveals a slab-like high velocity anomaly down to 250 km beneath the western Yunnan Tethyan orogen, to its west there is a low-velocity column about 300 km wide. in the region from Lancangjiang to Mojiang an obvious low velocity in the lower crust and uppermost mantle overlies on the slab. Synthesizing the available geological and geochemical results, the present paper demonstrates that this slab-like high velocity anomaly is a part of the subducted plate of Yangtze Continental segment after the closure of Paleotethys. The collision of India and Eurasia continent starting from 50-60 MaBP might trigger thermal disturbance in the upper mantle and cause the uprising of asthenosphere, in that case the subducted Yangtze plate could be broken off, causing Cenozoic magmatic activities and underplating in the Lancangjiang-Mojiang region.Futian Liu Jianhua Liu Dalai Zhong Jiankun He Qingyu You 2000Chinese Science Bulletin2000,45,5:28
4Strain and kinematic vorticity analysis:An indicator for sinistral transpressional strain-partitioning along the Lancangjiang shear zone,western Yunnan,China显示文摘This work deals with the preliminary relationship between strain path and strain partitioning pattern in a sinistral transpressional zone,Lancangjiang shear zone,located to the southeast of Tibet.Various ductile rocks provide an opportunity to investigate quantitative finite strain(Rs),kinematic vorticity values(Wm),and proportions of simple and pure shear components.The mean kinematic vorticity values(Wm) were evaluated based on three methods,such as Rs-θ,prophyroclast hyperbolic distribution method(PHD),and polar Mohr diagram construction(PMD).Wm for mylonitic metasediments of the low-grade schist belt ranged from 0.19 to 0.54.Protomylonites,mylonites,and ultramylonites recorded differential Wm values,0.19―0.73,0.11―0.8,and 0.84―0.95(even 0.99) respectively in the high-grade gneiss belt.Based on classical strain analysis and these kinematic vorticity evaluations,the shear zone is classified as a preliminarily bulk monoclinic symmetry.The pattern of vorticity path suggests that a previously undocumented transpressional setting and strain partitioning pattern in the southeast region of Tibet Plateau,characterized by steep-narrow domain of simple-shearing(Tertiary strike-slip shearing) deformation and wider domain of mostly pure-shearing(Tertiary contraction) to accommo-date intracontinental deformation.Bo Zhang JinJiang Zhang DaLai Zhong Lei Guo 2009Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,5:16
5Orogen-parallel extension in Himalaya: Is it the indicator of collapse or the product in process of compressive uplift?显示文摘Extensional structures developed extensively in Himalaya with their strikes perpendicular to that of the orogenic belt. The studies of such structures in Qusum, Burang, Lhozhag, Nyalam and Yadong show that they represent an orogen-parallel extension. The basins produced by the extension experienced orokyn-perpendicular compression during their formation. The ages of the extension rang from 16 to 13 Ma and coincide with the intensive compressive stage in Southeastern Asia. Therefore, the extension is Syn-shortening and the dominate tectonic movement in Himalaya was compression and uplift during the extension. 6Late Mesozoic-Cenozoic dcollement structure and its deep geological background in western Shandong,China显示文摘Data from seismic reflection profiles, drilling, stratigraphy, structural deformation studies and physical rock properties reveal the existence of dcol1ement structures in both shallow and deep levels in western Shandong, China. The most outstanding shallow dcol1ement structures occur along the regional unconformity surface between the Cambrian and Archean, and the disconformity surface between the Carboniferous and Ordovician. The dcollement structure surface manifests as a fault zone with cataclastic rocks and asymmetrical folds. Some of the cataclastic rocks underwent dynamic metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration, including silicification, marbleization and specularite mineralization. Above the dcol1ement structure, the bottom of the Cambrian might be missing or overprinted because of dcollement. The striations, asymmetrical folds and boudinage structures indicate the direction of the main dcollement to the NNW and NNE. A deep level dcollement structure occurs at a depth of 12-22 km and up to 30 km distance to the south. The early Cretaceous and Eocene are two main periods of activity, with the Cretaceous dcollement probably initiated by mantle upwelling derived from subduction and collision of the Yangtze Plate with the North China Plate along the Tancheng-Lujiang Fault in the late Triassi-early Jurassic. 7The western boundary of extrusion blocks in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The model about block extrusion related to collision between Eurasia and India which is proposed by Tapponnier et al. has not been accepted so far in the field. Based on kinematics and chronology, the Gailigong dextral strike-slip fault in west Yunnan and Nabang dextral strike-slip fault which is the part of Mogok belt are the western boundary of extrusion blocks, as the eastern boundary Red River-Ailaoshan left-lateral fault. 8Evidences of rapid erosion driven by climate in the Yarlung Zangbo (Tsangpo) Great Canyon,the eastern Himalayan syntaxis显示文摘Climate and tectonism are both particularly intense in the Yarlung Zangbo (Tsangpo) Great Canyon in the eastern Himalayan syntaxis,which is characterized by the most rapid landscape evolution of anywhere in the world.Thus,the eastern Himalayan syntaxis is one of the best locations to study the interactions between climate and tectonics.This paper investigates the cooling ages of the Doxong La-Baibung profile using apatite fission track (AFT) dating on 11 bedrock samples at elevations ranging from 4210 to 710 m.There are topographic,climatic,metamorphic,and thermochronological gradients in the profile,providing good conditions to study interactions between climate and tectonics.AFT ages ranged from 4.6±0.6 Ma to 1.7±0.3 Ma,and the mean fission track lengths ranged from 11.0 to 12.4 μm.It was found that the cooling rates revealed by AFT ages increased with decreasing elevation.However,the tendency of the cooling rates revealed by the 40 Ar-39 Ar ages was different from that indicated by the AFT ages.Moreover,for most districts of the eastern Himalayan syntaxis,the compiled AFT age distribution correlates well with the annual average precipitation,indicating the coupling of the cooling and erosion rates of the near-surface rock and precipitation.The geothermal history modeling results indicate an obvious increase in the cooling and erosion rate between 1.0 and 0.5 Ma.This age is consistent with other research findings for this time,when the vapor channel of the Yarlung Zangbo Great Canyon began to take effect.These evidences suggest that climate,especially precipitation,has acting as a key factor influencing the rapid cooling and erosion in the Yarlung Zangbo Great Canyon since 1-0.5 Ma.YU XiangJiang JI JianQing GONG JunFeng SUN DongXia QING JianChun WANG LiNing ZHONG DaLai ZHANG ZhiCheng 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,11:11
9Structural feature and its significance of the northernmost segment of the Tertiary Biluoxueshan-Chongshan shear zone,east of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis显示文摘Here we describe ductile,ductile-brittle and brittle deformation styles in the northern segment of the Tertiary Biluoxue-shan-Chongshan shear zone lying to the east of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis.In the northernmost part of the zone in the vicinity of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis,it consists of mylonitic gneiss,granite,and schist.Based on field relations andmineral assemblages,the rocks are classified into gneiss belt in the west limb,including banded gneiss,augen mylonite and migmatite gneiss,and schist belt in the east limb.Except for the massive granite pluton,the other three tectonites are affected by polystage deformation (D1-D4).Fold deformation of the first stage D1 is isoclinal to tight pattern with nearly N-S fold axes and steeply axial planar cleavage S1,which resulted in the local crustal thickening under a contractive setting.D2 overprinted D1 and is characterized by tight folds with steep axes and N-S fold axial planar,which are also characterized by large-scale ductile strike-slip shear foliation S2,parallel to the nearly N-S trending axial planes of D1 and D2.The structural pattern of D2 represents a transpression along the zone.D3 occurred during the late stage of the transpression or post-transpression,produc-ing the NW-SE and NE-SW trending strike-slip faults of the third stage D3.Following the D3 deformation,the zone was ex-humed to shallow crustal level where the various tectonites underwent a brittle transtensional deformation D4,combined with one N-S trending strike-slip component and one normal faulting component.Structures and previous geochronologies presented in the paper suggest that the study area is correlated with those in the adjacent tectonic zones,Ailaoshan-Red River shear zone and Gaoligong shear zone in the western Yunnan.It underwent intensive polyphase deformation,namely,crustal thickening,transpression,and transtension,responding to syn-collision and post-collision of India-Eurasia from 65 Ma to current period east of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis.ZHANG Bo ZHANG JinJiang ZHONG DaLai WANG XiaoXian QU JunFeng GUO Lei 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,7:11

11Discovery of ophiolite in southeast Yunnan,China显示文摘The Babu ophiolite in Malipo County, SE Yunnan, consists of three units: ultramafic, mafic and basaltic rocks. Studies of geological mapping, petrology and geochemistry reveal that the gabbro is similar to that in the Troodos ophiolite, and the diabase and basalt belong to a normal MORB-type,analogous to the Shuanggou ophiolite in west Yunnan. 13Machine learning models compared to existing criteria for noninvasive prediction of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography-confirmed choledocholithiasis显示文摘Background and aims:Noninvasive predictors of choledocholithiasis have generally exhibited marginal performance characteristics.We aimed to identify noninvasive independent predictors of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)-confirmed choledocholithiasis and accordingly developed predictive machine learning models(MLMs).Methods:Clinical data of consecutive patients undergoing first-ever ERCP for suspected chol-edocholithiasis from 2015 to 2019 were abstracted from a prospectively-maintained database.Multiple logistic regression was used to identify predictors of ERCP-confirmed choledocholithiasis.MLMs were then trained to predict ERCP-confirmed choledocholithiasis using pre-ERCP ultrasound(US)imaging only as well as using all available noninvasive imaging(US,computed tomography,and/or magnetic reso-nance cholangiopancreatography).The diagnostic performance of American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy(ASGE)“high-likelihood”criteria was compared to MLMs.Results:We identified 270 patients(mean age 46 years,62.2%female,73.7%Hispanic/Latino,59%with noninvasive imaging positive for choledocholithiasis)with native papilla who underwent ERCP for suspected choledocholithiasis,of whom 230(85.2%)were found to have ERCP-confirmed chol-edocholithiasis.Logistic regression identified choledocholithiasis on noninvasive imaging(odds ratio(OR)¼3.045,P¼0.004)and common bile duct(CBD)diameter on noninvasive imaging(OR¼1.157,P¼0.011)as predictors of ERCP-confirmed choledocholithiasis.Among the various MLMs trained,the random forest-based MLM performed best;sensitivity was 61.4%and 77.3%and specificity was 100%and 75.0%,using US-only and using all available imaging,respectively.ASGE high-likelihood criteria demonstrated sensitivity of 90.9%and specificity of 25.0%;using cut-points achieving this specificity,MLMs achieved sensitivity up to 97.7%.Conclusions:MLMs using age,sex,race/ethnicity,presence of diabetes,fever,body mass index(BMI),total bilirubin,maximum CBD diameter,and choledocholithiasis on pre-ERCP noninvasive imaging predict ERCP-confirmed choledocholithiasis with good sensitivity and specificity and outperform the ASGE criteria for patients with suspected choledocholithiasis.Camellia Dalai John M Azizian Harry Trieu Anand Rajan Formosa C Chen Tien Dong Simon W Beaven James H.Tabibian 2021Liver Research2021,5,4:3

15Study of cyanide removal from contaminated water using zinc peroxide nanomaterial显示文摘The present study highlights the potential application of zinc peroxide(ZnO_2)nanomaterial as an efficient material for the decontamination of cyanide from contaminated water. A process patent for ZnO_2 synthesis has been granted in United States of America(US Patent number 8,715,612; May 2014),South Africa,Bangladesh,and India. The ZnO_2 nanomaterial was capped with polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)to control the particle size. The PVP capped ZnO_2nanomaterial(PVP-ZnO_2)before and after adsorption of cyanide was characterized by scanning electron microscope,transmission electron microscope,X-ray diffractometer,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and time of flight-secondary ion mass spectrometry. The remaining concentration of cyanide after adsorption by PVP-ZnO_2 was determined using ion chromatograph. The adsorption of cyanide over PVP-ZnO_2 was also studied as a function of p H,adsorbent dose,time and concentration of cyanide. The maximum removal of cyanide was observed in p H range 5.8–7.8 within 15 min. The adsorption data was fitted to Langmuir and Fruendlich isotherm and it has been observed that data follows both the isotherms and also follows second order kinetics.Himani Uppal S. 16[bmim]OH: An efficient catalyst for the synthesis of mono and bis spirooxindole derivatives in ethanol at room temperature显示文摘A rapid and efficient, one pot synthesis of spirooxindole derivatives has been attempted by threecomponent reaction of isatin, malononitrile and carbonyl compound possessing a reactive a-methylene group by using task specific ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium hydroxide [bmim]OH as a catalyst. The important features of this methodology are straight forward route in short reaction time at room temperature and avoid any hazardous organic solvent, toxic catalyst, tedious purification step.Interestingly, this protocol is not only limited to mono-systems but also to the synthesis of newer bisspirooxindole system. The separation of the product and reusability of the catalyst are easy with excellent yield.
