1Effect of temperature on the sorption and desorption of perfluorooctane sulfonate on humic acid显示文摘Sorption and desorption of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) on humic acid at different temperatures were studied. It was found that the sorption process could be modeled with power kinetic equation very well, suggesting that diflusion predominated the sorption of PFOS on the humic acid. The sorption capacity was doubled when the temperature increased from 5 to 35°C, and thermodynamics parameters △G0 was calculated to be -7.11 to -5.04 kJ/mol, △H0 was 14.2 kJ/mol, and △S 0 was 69.5 J/(mol·K), indicating that the sorption was a spontaneous, endothermic, and entropy driven process. 2The spreading frontiers of avian-human influenza described by the free boundary显示文摘In this paper,a reaction-diffusion system is proposed to investigate avian-human influenza.Two free boundaries are introduced to describe the spreading frontiers of the avian influenza.The basic reproduction numbers rF0(t)and RF0(t)are defined for the bird with the avian influenza and for the human with the mutant avian influenza of the free boundary problem,respectively.Properties of these two time-dependent basic reproduction numbers are obtained.Sufficient conditions both for spreading and for vanishing of the avian influenza are given.It is shown that if rF0(0)<1 and the initial number of the infected birds is small,the avian influenza vanishes in the bird world.Furthermore,if rF0(0)<1 and RF0(0)<1,the avian influenza vanishes in the bird and human worlds.In the case that rF0(0)<1 and RF0(0)>1,spreading of the mutant avian influenza in the human world is possible.It is also shown that if rF0(t0)>1 for any t0>0,the avian influenza spreads in the bird world.LEI ChengXia KIM KwangIk LIN ZhiGui 2014Science China Mathematics2014,57,5:5
3Excess polonium-210 in the coastal atmosphere originating from marine biogenic material显示文摘The depositional fluxes of atmospheric polonium-210 were measured at one site in Xiamen from August 2001 to March 2002. With predominant marine air mass, the depositional fluxes of atmospheric polonium-210 ranged from 0.01 to 0.09 Bq/(m 2 ·d), with an average of 0.04 Bq/(m 2 ·d). The seasonal pattern showed elevated polonium-210 fluxes in summer and autumn rather than in winter. Atmospheric depositional fluxes of polonium-210 showed a good correlation with beryllium-7 (r 2 =0.85) and lead-210 fluxes (r 2 =0.71), indicating their similar removal mechanism from atmosphere. The relationship between the polonium-210 depositional fluxes and the precipitation amount demonstrated that the precipitation dominates the polonium-210 removal from the atmosphere. The observed high activity ratios of polonium-210 to lead-210 indicated the occurrence of excess polonium-210 in coastal atmosphere, which may originate from marine surface waters either by indirect (foam), or more likely, direct (air-sea exchange) input of marine biogenic material into the atmosphere.
