Habitat use and locomotion of the François’langur(Trachypithecus francoisi)in limestone habitats of Nonggang,China显示文摘We collected data on habitat use and locomotion of the François’langur(Trachypithecus francoisi)between August 2003 and July 2004 at Nonggang Nature Reserve,China.A total of 739 h of behavioral data were collected during this study. We tested 2 predictions:(1)that the langurs may have special patterns of habitat use and locomotion adaptive to the limestone habitat,and(2)the langurs may exhibit different patterns of habitat use and locomotion among different zones of limestone hill. Our results indicated that François’langurs spent more time in the low-risk,relatively food-poor cliff-hilltop areas. When young leaves and fruit were scarce in the dry season, the langurs increased their time in the high-risk,food-rich valley basin.François’langurs were semi-terrestrial,and leaping and climbing were their main locomotor modes. These behavioral patterns are considered to be related to characteristics of topography and vegetation in limestone habitat, such as large areas of cliff and discontinuous canopy. Our results also supported Prediction 2.The langurs confined locomotion to the main canopy and frequently adopted leaping while traveling in the hillside and valley basin. While traveling in cliff-hilltop areas, they tended to stay in the lower stratus(≤5 m)or move on the ground, and walking and climbing were their dominant traveling modes. | Qihai ZHOU Bang LUO Fuwen WEI Chengming HUANG | 2013 | Integrative Zoology2013,8,4: | 2

Mating Ethogram of a Video-aided Study of Mating and Parturition in Captive Chinese Crocodile Lizards (Shinisaurus crocodilurus)显示文摘Mating behavior and parturition are important components in the life history of any species. The endangered Chinese crocodile lizard(Shinisaurus crocodilurus) is suffering dramatic population decreases in the wild. Successful captive breeding can provide individuals to be reintroduced into their natural habitat and help to restore the wild populations. Studying the mating behavior and parturition of these lizards in captivity will enable us understand how is this ancient species reproduction and optimize artificial reproduction protocol. We studied the mating behavior and parturition of Chinese crocodile lizards in captivity using video recordings at the Daguishan National Nature Reserve, China, from 2015 to 2017. We analyzed pre-copulation and copulation, which occurred in mid-March to late May from all studied years. Pre-copulation and copulation lasted on average 7.51(n=11) and 27.45(n=11) minutes, respectively. We found that large-bodied male lizards have longer copulation periods, a pattern seen in other lizard species. In the mating event, males always initiated sex, while the females were passive. The duration of parturition lasted 153.8 ± 26.8(n=46) minutes, and larger females had heavier clutches. In addition, even though Chinese crocodile lizards represent an ancient lizard clade with primitive characteristics, they still abide by the reproduction patterns seen in most other lizard species. | Chengming HUANG Zhengjun WU Shuyi LUO Jiasong HE Chunsheng YANG Meng MENG Lu YAO Zhigao ZENG | 2019 | Asian Herpetological Research2019,10,4: | 1
N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor effects on p38 mitogen activated protein kinase and its role in a rat model of diabetic neuropathic pain显示文摘BACKGROUND:Activated N-methyl-D-aspartate(NMDA) receptor is involved in the formation of chronic neuropathic pain, and its antagonist, ketamine, exhibits effective amelioration of diabetic neuropathic pain(DNP).However, the mechanisms of NMDA receptor participation in the formation and maintenance of DNP remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the role NMDA receptor plays in DNP and effects on p38 mitogen activated protein kinase(p38 MAPK) in a rat model of DNP. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:A randomized, controlled, animal experiment was performed at the Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research Institute of Yunyang Medical College Affiliated Taihe Hospital between July 2005 and September 2007. MATERIALS:Streptozotocin was provided by Sigma,USA;p38 MAPK inhibitor(SB203580) was provided by Shanghai KangChen Biotech,China;NMDA receptor antagonist(MK-801) was purchased from Shanghai Yope Biotech,China. METHODS:A total of 128 healthy,Wistar rats of clean grade, aged 3 months and weighing 180- 220 g,were randomly assigned to 4 groups:control,DNP model,p38 MAPK,and NMDA receptor. Each group contained 32 rats.DNP was established in all groups except for the control group by intraperitoneal injection of streptozocin(65 mg/kg).Subsequently,1 mg/kg SB203580 and 1 mg/kg MK-801 were injected once each week via intraperitoneal injection in the p38 MAPK and NMDA receptor groups, respectively. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:At the end of 2,4,6,and 8 weeks following streptozotocin injection, mechanical withdrawal threshold was measured in 8 animals from each group following von Frey filament stimulation. The rats were anesthetized and nerve conduction velocity of the left sciatic nerve was measured.Subsequently, the right sciatic nerve, the lumbar segment of the spinal cord, and dorsal root ganglia were removed from the L_(3-6) segment for microscopic examination.p38 MAPK expression was determined using immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis. Expression of NMDA receptor 1 mRNA in dorsal root ganglion and spinal cord neurons was detected using RT-PCR. RESULTS:Mechanical withdrawal threshold and nerve conduction velocity were significantly reduced, and p38 MAPK and NMDA receptor 1 mRNA expression in the spinal cord and dorsal root ganglia were significantly increased,in the model,p38 MAPK,and NMDA receptor groups compared with the control group at all time points(P<0.05).At 4-8 weeks following successful DNP model establishment,SB203580 and MK-801 increased mechanical withdrawal threshold, accelerated nerve conduction velocity, and attenuated p38 MAPK expression, compared with the model group. The NMDA receptor group exhibited downregulated mRNA expression of NMDA receptor 1 compared with the model and p38 MAPK groups(P<0.05). CONCLUSION:NMDA receptor was highly expressed in the brains of DNP rats and was involved in DNP development via activation of the p38 MAPK signal pathway. | Changbin Ke Xiaoxia Huang Xianghong Luo Xiancheng Xu Chengming Qin Xianyu Wang Juying Liu | 2009 | Neural Regeneration Research2009,4,11: | 0
Underwater Data-Driven Positioning Estimation Using Local Spatiotemporal Nonlinear Correlation显示文摘Dear Editor,A global and local canonical correlation analysis(GLCCA)based on data-driven is presented for underwater positioning.Underwater positioning technology can help the underwater targets move predetermined destinations for specific tasks[1].Since using different sensor, underwater positioning can be divided into three types:inertial navigation, hydroacoustic positioning and geophysical navigation. | Chengming Luo Luxue Wang Xudong Yang Gaifang Xin Biao Wang | 2023 | IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2023,10,8: | 0
Groundwater contaminant source identification considering unknown boundary condition based on an automated machine learning surrogate显示文摘Groundwater contamination source identification(GCSI)is a prerequisite for contamination risk evaluation and efficient groundwater contamination remediation programs. The boundary condition generally is set as known variables in previous GCSI studies. However,in many practical cases, the boundary condition is complicated and cannot be estimated accurately in advance.Setting the boundary condition as known variables may seriously deviate from the actual situation and lead to distorted identification results. And the results of GCSI are affected by multiple factors, including contaminant source information, model parameters, boundary condition, etc. Therefore,if the boundary condition is not estimated accurately, other factors will also be estimated inaccurately. This study focuses on the unknown boundary condition and proposed to identify three types of unknown variables(contaminant source information, model parameters and boundary condition)innovatively. When simulation-optimization(S-O)method is applied to GCSI,the huge computational load is usually reduced by building surrogate models. However, when building surrogate models, the researchers need to select the models and optimize the hyperparameters to make the model powerful, which can be a lengthy process. The automated machine learning(AutoML)method was used to build surrogate model, which automates the model selection and hyperparameter optimization in machine learning engineering, largely reducing human operations and saving time. The accuracy of AutoML surrogate model is compared with the surrogate model used in eXtreme Gradient Boosting method(XGBoost),random forest method(RF),extra trees regressor method(ETR)and elasticnet method(EN)respectively, which are automatically selected in AutoML engineering. The results show that the surrogate model constructed by AutoML method has the best accuracy compared with the other four methods. This study provides reliable and strong support for GCSI. | Yaning Xu Wenxi Lu Zidong Pan Chengming Luo Yukun Bai Shuwei Qiu | 2024 | Geoscience Frontiers2024,15,1: | 0
