| 1 | Pathological aspects of so called 'hilar cholangiocarcinoma'显示文摘Cholangiocarcinoma(CC) arising from the large intrahepatic bile ducts and extrahepatic hilar bile ducts share clinicopathological features and have been called hilar and perihilar CC as a group.However,'hilar and perihilar CC' are also used to refer exclusively to the intrahepatic hilar type CC or,more commonly,the extrahepatic hilar CC.Grossly,a major distinction can be made between papillary and non-papillary tumors.Histologically,most hilar CCs are well to moderately differentiated conventional type(biliary) carcinomas.Immunohistochemically,CK7,CK20,CEA and MUC1 are normally expressed,being MUC2 positive in less than 50% of cases.Two main premalignant lesions are known:biliary intraepithelial neoplasia(BilIN) and intraductal papillary neoplasm of the biliary tract(IPNB).IPNB includes the lesions previously named biliary papillomatosis and papillary carcinoma.A series of 29 resected hilar CC from our archives is reviewed.Most(82.8%) were conventional type adenocarcinomas,mostly well to moderately differentiated,although with a broad morphological spectrum;three cases exhibited a poorly differentiated cell component resembling signet ring cells.IPNB was observed in 5(17.2%),four of them with an associated invasive carcinoma.A clear cell type carcinoma,an adenosquamous carcinoma and two gastric foveolar type carcinomas were observed. | Víctor M Castellano-Megías Carolina Ibarrola-de Andrés Francisco Colina-Ruizdelgado | 2013 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2013,5,7: | 8 |
| 2 | Q-switching of waveguide lasers based on graphene/WS_2 van der Waals heterostructure显示文摘We report on the operation of passively Q-switched waveguide lasers at 1 μm wavelength based on a graphene∕WS_2 heterostructure as a saturable absorber(SA). The gain medium is a crystalline Nd:YVO_4 cladding waveguide produced by femtosecond laser writing. The nanosecond waveguide laser operation at 1064 nm has been realized with the maximum average output power of 275 m W and slope efficiency of 37%. | 3 | Pathological features and diagnosis of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas显示文摘Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm(IPMN) of the pancreas is a noninvasive epithelial neoplasm of mucinproducing cells arising in the main duct(MD) and/or branch ducts(BD) of the pancreas.Involved ducts are dilated and filled with neoplastic papillae and mucus in variable intensity.IPMN lacks ovarian-type stroma,unlike mucinous cystic neoplasm,and is defined as a grossly visible entity(≥ 5 mm),unlike pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasm.With the use of high-resolution imaging techniques,very small IPMNs are increasingly being identified.Most IPMNs are solitary and located in the pancreatic head,although 20%-40% are multifocal.Macroscopic classification in MD type,BD type and mixed or combined type reflects biological differences with important prognostic and preoperative clinical management implications.Based on cytoarchitectural atypia,IPMN is classified into low-grade,intermediategrade and high-grade dysplasia.Based on histological features and mucin(MUC) immunophenotype,IPMNs are classified into gastric,intestinal,pancreatobiliary and oncocytic types.These different phenotypes can be observed together,with the IPMN classified according to the predominant type.Two pathways have been suggested:gastric phenotype corresponds to less aggressive uncommitted cells(MUC1-,MUC2-,MUC5 AC +,MUC6 +) with the capacity to evolve to intestinal phenotype(intestinal pathway)(MUC1-,MUC2 +,MUC5 AC +,MUC6- or weak +) or pancreatobiliary /oncocytic phenotypes(pyloropancreatic pathway)(MUC1 +,MUC 2-,MUC5 AC +,MUC 6 +) becoming more aggressive.Prognosis of IPMN is excellent but critically worsens when invasive carcinoma arises(about 40% of IPMNs),except in some cases of minimal invasion.The clinical challenge is to establish which IPMNs should be removed because of their higher risk of developing invasive cancer.Once resected,they must be extensively sampled or,much better,submitted in its entirety for microscopic study to completely rule out associated invasive carcinoma. | Víctor M Castellano-Megías Carolina Ibarrola-de Andrés Guadalupe López-Alonso Francisco Colina-Ruizdelgado | 2014 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2014,6,9: | 4 |
| 4 | Chemical and spectroscopic characterization of humic substances from sediment and riparian soil of a highly polluted urban river (Suquía River, Cordoba, Argentina)显示文摘The Suquía River,the largest urban river in C ordoba(Argentina),has been severely polluted for decades.Actions must be taken to restore its environmental quality by managing riparian zones for increased water-self purification.The current study aimed to characterize organic matter(OM)dynamics and humic substances(HS)spectrochemical properties along the lower-middle basin of the Suquía River.Riparian soil(0e20 cm)and sediment(0e10 cm)samples were collected from a reference location(S1)and four polluted sites(S2eS5)during a low-flow period.The contents of soil and sedimentary OM and HS fractions were analyzed by wet oxidation,as well as HS Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)and ultravioletevisible(UVeVis)spectrochemical properties.The OM and HS fractions from riparian soil were high upstream of C ordoba City(S1 and S2,50.2e50.4 g/kg OM)and within a 50 km downstream location(S5,30.9 g/kg OM)owing to a surplus of fresh plant biomass-carbon(C)inputs.Highly heterogeneous sediment samples did not show any significant differences among sites(P>0.05).The lowest values of the ratio of absorbances at 465 and 665 nm(E4/E6)(1.78)and the Δ log K(0.15)coefficient(a measure of HS maturity degree)were obtained downstream of C ordoba City,for both riparian soil and sediment,indicating that HS were enriched by more condensed aromatic structures within highly degraded portions of the river.All samples exhibited similar IR spectra,implying overlapping recalcitrant-C structures at the functional group level,but with different absorbance intensity.Data from the current study constitute a baseline for understanding the chemical nature of HS from sediment and riparian soil along the Suquía River and can be used as a reference for future studies tracking OM compositional changes over time. | Carolina Merlo Carolina Vázquez Ana Graciela Iriarte Carlos Matías Romero | 2020 | International Journal of Sediment Research2020,35,3: | 3 |
| 5 | Diagnostic tests for hepatitis C: Recent trends in electrochemical immunosensor and genosensor analysis显示文摘Hepatitis C is a liver disease that is transmitted through contact with the blood of an infected person. An estimated 150 million individuals worldwide have been chronically infected with the hepatitis C virus(HCV). Hepatitis C shows significant genetic variation in the global population, due to the high rate of viral RNA mutation. There are six variants of the virus(HCV genotypes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6), with 15 recorded subtypes that vary in prevalence across different regions of the world. A variety of devices are used to diagnose hepatitis C, including HCV antibody test, HCV viral load test, HCV genotype test and liver biopsy. Rapid, inexpensive, sensitive, and robust analytical devices are therefore essential for effective diagnosis and monitoring of disease treatment.
