23D Bioprinting:A Novel Avenue for Manufacturing Tissues and Organs显示文摘Three-dimensional(3D)bioprinting is a rapidly growing technology that has been widely used in tissue engineering,disease studies,and drug screening.It provides the unprecedented capacity of depositing various types of biomaterials,cells,and biomolecules in a layer-by-layer fashion,with precisely controlled spatial distribution.This technology is expected to address the organ-shortage issue in the future.In this review,we first introduce three categories of 3D bioprinting strategies:inkjet-based printing(IBP),extrusion-based printing(EBP),and light-based printing(LBP).Biomaterials and cells,which are normally referred to as“bioinks,”are then discussed.We also systematically describe the recent advancements of 3D bioprinting in fabricating cell-laden artificial tissues and organs with solid or hollow structures,including cartilage,bone,skin,muscle,vascular network,and so on.The development of organs-onchips utilizing 3D bioprinting technology for drug discovery and toxicity testing is reviewed as well.Finally,the main challenges in current studies and an outlook of the future research of 3D bioprinting are discussed.Bin Zhang Lei Gao Liang Ma Yichen Luo Huayong Yang Zhanfeng Cui 2019Engineering2019,5,4:5
3PROTEIN SEPARATION USING ULTRAFILTRATION-AN EXAMPLE OF MULTI-SCALE COMPLEX SYSTEMS显示文摘In this mini-review, the complexity of protein fractionation using ultrafiltration is discussed. The coupling of the system hydrodynamics, boundary layer transport, membrane permeation, electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions and its effects on protein transmission and membrane selectivity are analysed. Although ultrafiltration is promising for larger scale protein purification and also with outstanding advantages both technically and economically, much needs to be done to derive the.general guidance for membrane selection, process design and system operation. With fine tuning of operational and physiochemical conditions, the process can be greatly improved in terms of process productivity and protein purity. A coupled multi-scale approach might provide a way forward to analyse this complex system and improve the confidence in applying such a promising technology and predictability of the outcome.Zhanfeng Cui 2005China Particuology2005,3,6:3

7Increased connectivity of hiPSC-derived neural networks in multiphase granular hydrogel scaffolds显示文摘To reflect human development,it is critical to create a substrate that can support long-term cell survival,differentiation,and maturation.Hydrogels are promising materials for 3D cultures.However,a bulk structure consisting of dense polymer networks often leads to suboptimal microenvironments that impedes nutrient exchange and cell-to-cell interaction.Herein,granular hydrogel-based scaffolds were used to support 3D human induced pluripotent stem cell(hiPSC)-derived neural networks.A custom designed 3D printed toolset was developed to extrude hyaluronic acid hydrogel through a porous nylon fabric to generate hydrogel granules.Cells and hydrogel granules were combined using a weaker secondary gelation step,forming self-supporting cell laden scaffolds.At three and seven days,granular scaffolds supported higher cell viability compared to bulk hydrogels,whereas granular scaffolds supported more neurite bearing cells and longer neurite extensions(65.52±11.59μm)after seven days compared to bulk hydrogels(22.90±4.70μm).Long-term(three-month)cultures of clinically relevant hiPSC-derived neural cells in granular hydrogels supported well established neuronal and astrocytic colonies and a high level of neurite extension both inside and beyond the scaffold.This approach is significant as it provides a simple,rapid and efficient way to achieve a tissue-relevant granular structure within hydrogel cultures.Chia-Chen Hsu Julian H.George Sharlayne Waller Cyril Besnard David A Nagel Eric J Hill Michael D.Coleman Alexander M.Korsunsky Zhanfeng Cui Hua Ye 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,3:1

11Charge density wave phase suppression in 1T-TiSe_(2) through Sn intercalation显示文摘Taking advantage of the unique layered structure of TiSe2,the intrinsic electronic properties of two-dimensional materials can easily be tuned via heteroatomic engineering.Herein,we show that the charge density wave(CDW)phase in 1T-TiSe_(2) single-crystals can be gradually suppressed through Sn atoms intercalation.Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES)and temperature-dependent resistivity measurements,this work reveals that Sn atoms can induce charge doping and modulate the intrinsic electronic properties in the host 1T-TiSe_(2).Notably,our temperature-dependent ARPES results highlight the role exciton-phonon interaction and the Jahn-Teller mechanism through the formation of backfolded bands and exhibition of a downward Se shift of 4p valence band in the formation of CDW in this material.Mukhtar Lawan Adam Hongen Zhu Zhanfeng Liu Shengtao Cui Pengjun Zhang Yi Liu Guobin Zhang Xiaojun Wu Zhe Sun Li Song 2022Nano Research2022,15,3:1

20Structural analysis of processed corneas显示文摘Background:Disruption of the microstructure in corneal stroma can lead to the loss of transparency.The lack of a characterization method for the microstructure prevents such scaffolds to be implemented in tissue transplantation.The non-invasive,three-dimensional(3D)rendering multiphoton microscopy(MPM)poses the potential to solve this problem.Methods:MPM images and data analyses were performed with three kinds of samples with known and different quality.Isosurfaces(ISOs)were constructed for the evaluation of void volume and collagen distribution.Results:The differences in the microstructures of these samples were revealed with clear indications and links to their behaviours in rehydration and possible transparency.According to this analysis,the scaffold with the highest void space ratio amongst the three presented the highest successful rates to be thoroughly rehydrated.Conclusions:Such a method can be developed for assessing the quality of tissue engineered corneas,or donated corneas,and be useful as a powerful research tool in cornea related research.Shaoyang Anthony Yeh Hua Ye Zhanfeng Cui 2018Annals of Eye Science2018,,1:0
