| 1 | Modeling tree root diameter and biomass by ground-penetrating radar显示文摘Roots play a key role in ecosystem functioning as they transfer water and nutrients from soil to plants.Traditional methods for measuring roots are labor-intensive and destructive in nature,which limits quantitative and repeatable assessments in longterm research.Ground-penetrating radar(GPR) provides a non-destructive method to measure plant roots.Based on the superiority of GPR with 2 GHz frequency,we developed a new,practical method to estimate root biomass.First,average root matter density was measured by collecting a small number of root samples.Second,under controlled,experimental conditions in a sandy area,a root diameter estimation model base on GPR was developed from which root diameter was estimated.Third,root volume was calculated using the estimated root diameter and assuming the shape of roots to be cylindrical.Finally,root biomass was estimated by averaging root matter density and root volume.Results of this study suggest the following:(1) the density of coarse roots with diameters greater than 0.5 cm is relatively uniform;(2) a new wave shape parameter,ΔT,extracted from profile data of 2 GHz frequency antenna is independent of root depth,thus enabling the construction of a root diameter estimation model with high accuracy;and(3) results of a field experiment demonstrated the GPR-based method to be feasible and effective in estimating biomass of coarse roots.These findings are helpful for improving GPR-based root diameter and biomass estimation models and suggest the potential of GPR data in studying root systems. | CUI XiHong CHEN Jin SHEN JinSong CAO Xin CHEN XueHong ZHU XiaoLin | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,5: | 8 |
| 2 | Mechanisms,monitoring and modeling of shrub encroachment into grassland:a review显示文摘Shrub encroachment into arid and semi-arid grasslands has elicited extensive research attention worldwide under the background of climate change and increasing anthropogenic activities.Shrub encroachment may considerably impact local ecosystems and economies,including the conversion of the structure and function of ecosystems,the shift in ambient conditions,and the weakness of local stock farming capacity.This article reviews recent research progresses on the shrub encroachment process and mechanism,shrub identification and dynamic monitoring using remote sensing,and modeling and simulation of the shrub encroachment process and dynamics.These studies can help to evaluate the ecological effect of shrub encroachment,and thus,practically manage and recover the ecological environment of degraded areas.However,the lack of effective measures and data for monitoring shrub encroachment at a large spatial scale severely limits research on the mechanism,modeling,and simulation of shrub encroachment,and the shrub encroachment stages can hardly be quantitatively defined,resulting in insufficient analysis and simulation of shrub encroachment for different spatiotemporal scales and stages shift.Improvement in remote sensingbased shrub encroachment dynamic monitoring might be crucial for analyzing and understanding the process and mechanism of shrub encroachment,and multi-disciplinary and multi-partnerships are required in the shrub encroachment studies. | Xin Cao Yu Liu Xihong Cui Jin Chen Xuehong Chen | 2019 | International Journal of Digital Earth2019,12,6: | 2 |
| 3 | Different mechanisms of improving CH_(3)NH_(3)PbI_(3) perovskite solar cells brought by fluorinated or nitrogen doped graphdiyne显示文摘Fluorinated and nitrogen-doped graphdiyne(F/N-GDY)have been used in the active layer of perovskite solar cells(PSCs)for the first time.The introduction of heteroatoms turns out to be an effective method for boosted solar cells performance,which increases by 32.8%and 33.0%,better than the pristine or GDY doped PSCs.The enhanced performance can be attributed firstly to the superiority of F/N-GDY originated from the unique structure and optoelectronic properties of GDY.Then,both can further reduce surface defects and improve surface and bulk crystallinity than pristine GDY.What's more,efficiency increase caused by F-GDY is mainly attributed to the improvement of fill factor(FF),while the higher short-circuit current(Jsc)plays more important role by N-GDY doping.Most importantly,the detailed mechanism brought about by doping of F-GDY or N-GDY is expounded by systematical characterizations,especially the synchrotron radiation technique.Doping of F-GDY causes Pb and forms new Pb-F bonds between F-GDY and Pb ions.Doping of N-GDY or GDY brings about Pb(N-GDY doping induces more deviation than that of GDY due to the participation of imine N),improving its electron density and conductivity. | Huan Huang Bing Liu Dan Wang Rongli Cui Xihong Guo Ying Li Shouwei Zuo Zi Yin Huanhua Wang Jing Zhang Hui Yuan Lirong Zheng Baoyun Sun | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,1: | 2 |

| 5 | Measurement of soil water content using ground-penetrating radar: a review of current methods显示文摘Soil water content(SWC)is a crucial parameter in ecology,agriculture,hydrology,and engineering studies.Research on non-invasive monitoring of SWC has been a long-lasting topic in these fields.Ground penetrating radar(GPR),a non-destructive geophysical technique,has the advantages of high resolution,deep detection depth,and high efficiency in SWC measurements at medium scale.It has been successfully applied in field investigations.This paper summarizes the recent progress in developing GPR-based SWC measurement methods,including reflected wave,ground wave,surface reflection,borehole GPR,full waveform inversion,average envelope amplitude,and frequency shift methods.The principles,advantages,limitations,and applications of these methods are described in detail.A comprehensive technical framework,which comprises the seven methods,is proposed to understand their principles and applicability.Two key procedures,namely,data acquisition and data processing,are emphasized as crucial to method applications.The suitable methods that will satisfy diverse application demands and field conditions are recommended.Future development,potential applications,and advances in hardware and data processing techniques are also highlighted. | Xinbo Liu Jin Chen Xihong Cui Qixin Liu Xin Cao Xuehong Chen | 2019 | International Journal of Digital Earth2019,12,1: | 1 |

| 12 | Comparative efficacy of traditional Chinese herbal injection for chronic renal failure:A systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials显示文摘Objective: To conduct a systematic review and network meta-analysis(NMA) for the comparison of the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal injection(CHI) combined with Western medicine(WM) and WM monotherapy for chronic renal failure(CRF).Methods: Eight databases were searched from inception to August 30, 2022. Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) regarding the comparison of CHI-WM combination therapy and WM monotherapy were included. Literature search, risk-of-bias assessment, and data extraction were conducted by 2 reviewers independently. NMA was performed by Stata 14.0, R 4.0.4 software, and the latest risk of bias assessment tool 2(RoB 2).Results: A total of 53 RCTs were finally included, involving 4445 participants and 16 CHIs. RoB 2 showed that 2 of these studies had a high risk of bias. Tianqi injection(TQ) + WM was the most effective in reducing serum creatinine(Scr) level. Xingding injection(XD) + WM was the most effective in reducing blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and cystatin C(Cys C) levels. Guhong injection(GH) + WM had the highest endogenous creatinine clearance rate(Ccr). Shuxuetong injection(SXT) + WM was the most effective in improving the clinical effective rate. Danhong injection(DH) + WM resulted in the lowest 24-h urinary protein quantity(24 h-UPQ), while Danshen injection(DS) + WM led to the lowest blood uric acid(UA)level. | 14 | iTRAQ-based analysis of 17β-estradiol induced proteome in Chinese tongue sole Cynoglossus semilaevis显示文摘The phenomenon of sex dimorphism prevails among many fi sh species. It has attracted the general research interest due to its close relationship to fi sh growth and thus aquaculture productivity. In Chinese tongue sole ( Cynoglossus semilaevis ), 17β-estradiol (E2) can be used reportedly to induce the feminization of fi sh, although the detailed regulatory network remained elusive. We treated the tongue sole fry before sex diff erentiation with E2 (10 and 30 μg/L) to identify potential targets of E2 in Chinese tongue sole. The E2 treatment indeed induced genetic male fi sh sex-reversal to phenotypic female. Using an iTRAQ-based comparative proteomic analysis, 409 proteins that diff erentially expressed after E2 induction were identifi ed, including 259 up-regulated and 150 down-regulated proteins. Furthermore, 19 diff erentially expressed proteins identifi ed in the comparative proteomic analysis were selected to assess their transcription and eight of them exhibited the same tendency. Functions of the eight proteins included mainly nucleotide and protein binding. Interestingly, a far upstream element-binding protein 3-like isoform exhibited the signifi cant upregulation both at transcription and translation levels after E2 treatment.
