| 4 | Application of the SCS-CN Model to Runoff Estimation in a Small Watershed with High Spatial Heterogeneity显示文摘For reasons of simplicity, the most commonly used hydrological models are based on the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) model, which is probably a good choice for the estimation of runoff on the Loess Plateau of China; however, the high spatial heterogeneity, mainly caused by a fragmented landform and variations in soil type, may limit its applicability to this region. Therefore, applicability of the SCS-CN model to a small watershed, Liudaogou on the plateau, was evaluated and the most appropriate initial abstraction ratio (Ia/S) value in the model was quantified by the inverse method. The results showed that the standard SCS-CN model was applicable to the estimation of runoff in the Liudaogou watershed and the model performance was acceptable according to the values of relative error and Nash-Sutcliffe effciency. The most appropriate Ia/S value for the watershed was 0.22 because with this modified Ia/S value, the model performance was slightly improved. The model performance was not sensitive to the modification of the Ia/S value when one heavy rainfall event (50.1 mm) was not considered, which implied that the model, using a standard Ia/S value, can be recommended for the Liudaogou watershed because single rainfall events exceeding 50 mm seldom occurred in that region. The runoff amount predicted for the Liudaogou watershed by the SCS-CN model, using the modified Ia/S value, increased gradually with increasing rainfall when rainfall values were lower than 50 mm, whereas the predicted amount increased rapidly when the rainfall exceeded 50 mm. | 5 | A single center investigation of bare-metal or drug-eluting stent restenosis from 1633 consecutive Chinese Han ethnic patients显示文摘Background Stents are widely used in China but the clinical impression is somehow that restenosis is less common because of the lower prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) and associated risk factors in Chinese populations. However, no large-sample published studies are available on angiographic stent restenosis including those of bare-metal stent (BMS) or drug-eluting stent (DES) in Chinese Han ethnic population. Mothods A total of 1633 consecutive patients with CAD who had undergone coronary stenting, quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) were retrospectively studied. At the time of stent implantation and at 7 months post-stenting 675 patients had a follow-up angiography. Statistical analysis was made with the chi-square test for categorical variables, unpaired t test for continuous variables, univariate or multivariate regression for baseline and angiographic characteristics and the Kaplan-Meier method for rate of target lesion revascularization (TLR). Results Stent restenosis was defined as ≥50% diameter stenosis in the dilated segment. A total of 675 patients with 1074 lesions were subjected to angiographic follow-up for 7 months on average. Of these lesions, 448 were implanted with BMS whereas 626 lesions with DES. At 7 months, bare-metal in-stent restenosis occured in 148 lesions (33.0%), and bare metal in-segment restenosis in 155 lesions (34.6%) in contrast to drug-eluting in-stent restenosis in 48 lesions (7.7%) and drug-eluting in-segment restenosis in 73 lesions (11.7%) (P<0.001 compared with BMS respectively). Late loss in both in-stent and in segment was higher in BMS than in DES groups [(1.00±0.69) vs (0.28±0.52); (0.78±0.71) vs (0.21±0.52), P<0.001 respectively]. Angulated lesion, lesion length, pre-procedural minimal luminal diameter (MLD), and BMS were independent predictors for TLR, (P<0.01 respectively), whereas current smoker, ostial lesion, and stent overlapping, post-procedure in-stent MLD, lesion length, and stent types were independent predictors for in-segment restenosis (P<0.01 respectively). Standard coronary risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and history of CAD were not associated with a higher rate of restenosis caused by BMS or DES implantation in our Chinese Han ethnic population. | 7 | Vegetation cover change and the driving factors over northwest China显示文摘In this paper the spatio-temporal variation of vegetation cover in northwest China during the period of 1982-2006 and its driving factors were analyzed using GIMMS/NDVI data. The annual average NDVI was increased with a rate of 0.0005/a in northwest China and there was an obvious difference between regions. The trend line slopes of NDVI were higher than 0.0005 in the Tianshan Moutains and Altay Mountains of Xinjiang,the Qilian Mountains of Gansu and the eastern part of Qinghai,which indicated the vegetation cover was significantly increased in these areas. The trend line slopes of NDVI were lower than 0.0005 in the southern region of Qinghai,the border regions of Shaanxi and Ningxia,the parts of Gansu and Tarim Basin,Turpan and Tuoli in Xinjiang,which indicated the vegetation cover was declined in these areas. The NDVI of woodland,grassland and cultivated land had an ascending tendency during the study period. The study shows that the vegetation cover change was caused by both natural factors and human activities in northwest China. The natural vegetation change,such as forests was influenced by climate change,while human activities were the main reason to the change of planting vegetation. The changes of vegetation covers for different elevations,slopes and slope aspects were quite different. When the elevation is exceeded to 4,000 m,the NDVI increasing trend was very low;the NDVI at the slope of less than 25° was increased by the ecological construction;the variation of NDVI on sunny slope was stronger than that on shady slope. The temperature rose significantly in recent 25 years in northwest China by an average rate of 0.67oC/10a,and precipitation increased by an average rate of 8.15 mm/10a after 1986. There was positive correlation between vegetation cover and temperature and annual precipitation changes. Rising temperature increased the evaporation and drought of soils,which is not conducive to plant growth,and the irrigation in agricultural areas reduced the correlation between agricultural vegetation NDVI and precipitation. | 8 | Ecosystem vulnerability of China under B2 climate scenario in the 21st century显示文摘This paper applies climate change scenarios in China based on the SRES assumptions with the help of RCMs projections by PRECIS (providing regional climates for impacts studies) system introduced to China from the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research at a high-resolution (50 km×50 km) over China. This research focuses on B2 scenario of SRES. A biogeochemical model 'Atmosphere Vegetation Integrated Model (AVIM2)' was applied to simulating ecosystem status in the 21st century. Then vulnerability of ecosystems was assessed based on a set of index of mainly net primary production (NPP) of vegetation. Results show that climate change would affect ecosystem of China severely and there would be a worse trend with the lapse of time. The regions where having vulnerable ecological background would have heavier impacts while some regions with better ecological background would also receive serious impacts. Extreme climate even would bring about worse impact on the ecosystems. Open shrub and desert steppe would be the two most affected types. When the extreme events happen, vulnerable ecosystem would extend to part of defoliate broad-leaved forest, woody grassland and evergreen conifer forest. Climate change would not always be negative. It could be of some benefit to cold region during the near-term. | 15 | Characteristics of Settings and Etiologic Agents of Foodborne Disease Outbreaks—China,2020显示文摘Introduction:Foodborne diseases are a growing public health problem and have caused a large burden of disease in China.This study analyzed epidemiological characteristics of foodborne diseases in China in 2020 to provide a scientific basis for prevention and control measures.Methods:Data were collected from 30 of 31 provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs)in the mainland of China,excluding Xizang(Tibet)Autonomous Region,via the National Foodborne Disease Outbreaks Surveillance System・The number and proportion of outbreaks,illnesses,hospitalizations,deaths by setting,pathogen-food category pairs and etiology were calculated.Results:In 2020,7,073 foodborne disease outbreaks were reported,resulting in 37,454 illnesses and 143 deaths.Among the identified pathogens,microbial pathogens were the most common confirmed etiology,accounting for 41.7%of illnesses.Poisonous mushrooms caused the largest proportion of outbreaks(58.0%)and deaths(57.6%).For venues where foodborne disease outbreaks occur,household had the highest number of outbreaks(4,140)and deaths(128),and catering service locations caused the largest proportion of illnesses(59.9%).Outbreaks occurring between June and September accounted for 62.8%of total outbreaks.Conclusions:Foodborne disease outbreaks mainly occurred in households・Microbial pathogens remained the top cause of outbreak-associated illnesses.Poisonous mushrooms were ranked the top cause of deaths in private homes in China.The supervision and management of food safety and health education should be strengthened to reduce the burden of foodborne diseases・Publicity should be increased to reduce the incidence of mushroom poisonings in families,and supervision and management of food should be strengthened to reduce microbial contamination. | Hongqiu Li Weiwei Li Yue Dai Yuyan Jiang Junhua Liang Santao Wang Maoqiang Zhuang Zheng Huang Lizi Xu Bo Xue Jikai Liu Haihong Han Sara M.Pires Ping Fu Yunchang Guo | 2021 | China CDC weekly2021,3,42: | 14 |
| 16 | Fatal complications in a patient with severe multi-space infections in the oral and maxillofacial head and neck regions: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Odontogenic infection is one of the common infectious diseases in oral and maxillofacial head and neck regions.Clinically,if early odontogenic infections such as acute periapical periodontitis,alveolar abscess,and pericoronitis of wisdom teeth are not treated timely,effectively and correctly,the infected tissue may spread up to the skull and brain,down to the thoracic cavity,abdominal cavity and other areas through the natural potential fascial space in the oral and maxillofacial head and neck.Severe multi-space infections are formed and can eventually lead to life-threatening complications(LTCs),such as intracranial infection,pleural effusion,empyema,sepsis and even death.CASE SUMMARY We report a rare case of death in a 41-year-old man with severe odontogenic multi-space infections in the oral and maxillofacial head and neck regions.One week before admission,due to pain in the right lower posterior teeth,the patient placed a cigarette butt dipped in the pesticide'Miehailin'into the'dental cavity'to relieve the pain.Within a week,the infection gradually spread bilaterally to the floor of the mouth,submandibular space,neck,chest,waist,back,temporal and other areas.The patient had difficulty breathing,swallowing and eating,and was transferred to our hospital as an emergency admission.Following admission,oral and maxillofacial surgeons immediately organized consultations with doctors in otolaryngology,thoracic surgery,general surgery,hematology,anesthesia and the intensive care unit to assist with treatment.The patient was treated with the highest level of antibiotics(vancomycin)and extensive abscess incision and drainage in the oral,maxillofacial,head and neck,chest and back regions.Unfortunately,the patient died of septic shock and multiple organ failure on the third day after admission.CONCLUSION Odontogenic infection can cause serious multi-space infections in the oral and maxillofacial head and neck regions,which can result in multiple LTCs.The management and treatment of LTCs such as multi-space infections should be multidisciplinary led by oral and maxillofacial surgeons. | Tian-Guo Dai Hong-Bing Ran Yin-Xiu Qiu Bo Xu Jin-Qiang Cheng Ying-Kai Liu | 2019 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2019,7,23: | 14 |

| 18 | Minor endoscopic sphincterotomy followed by large balloon dilation for large choledocholith treatment显示文摘AIM To evaluate early and late outcomes of endoscopic papillary large balloon dilation(EPLBD) with minor endoscopic sphincterotomy(m EST) for stone removal.METHODS A total of 149 consecutive patients with difficult common bile duct(CBD) stones(diameter ≥ 10 mm or ≥ 3 stones) underwent conventional endoscopic sphincterotomy(EST) or m EST plus EPLBD from May 2012 to April 2016. Their demographic, laboratory and procedural data were collected, and pancreaticobiliary complications were recorded.RESULTS Sixty-nine(94.5%) of the patients in the EPLBD + m EST group and 64(84.2%) in the conventional EST group achieved stone clearance following the first session(P = 0.0421). The procedure time for EPLBD + m EST was shorter than for EST alone(42.1 ± 13.6 min vs 47.3 ± 11.8 min, P = 0.0128). The overall rate of early complications in the EPLBD + m EST group(11%) was lower than in the EST group(21.1%); however, the difference was not significant(P = 0.0938). The cumulative recurrence rate of cholangitis and CBD stones between the two groups was also similar. The procedure time was independently associated with post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis(OR = 6.374, 95%CI: 1.193-22.624, P = 0.023), CBD stone diameter ≥ 16 mm(OR = 7.463, 95%CI: 2.705-21.246, P = 0.0452) and use of mechanical lithotripsy(OR = 9.913, 95%CI: 3.446-23.154, P = 0.0133) were independent risk factors for stone recurrence. | 19 | A nomogram to predict Gleason sum upgrading of clinically diagnosed localized prostate cancer among Chinese patients显示文摘Although several models have been developed to predict the probability of Gleason sum upgrading between biopsy and radical prostatectomy specimens,most of these models are restricted to prostatespecific antigen screening-detected prostate cancer.This study aimed to build a nomogram for the prediction of Gleason sum upgrading in clinically diagnosed prostate cancer.The study cohort comprised 269 Chinese prostate cancer patients who underwent prostate biopsy with a minimum of 10 cores and were subsequently treated with radical prostatectomy.Of all included patients,220(81.8%) were referred with clinical symptoms.The prostate-specific antigen level,primary and secondary biopsy Gleason scores,and clinical T category were used in a multivariate logistic regression model to predict the probability of Gleason sum upgrading.The developed nomogram was validated internally.Gleason sum upgrading was observed in 90(33.5%) patients.Our nomogram showed a bootstrap-corrected concordance index of 0.789 and good calibration using 4 readily available variables.The nomogram also demonstrated satisfactory statistical performance for predicting significant upgrading.External validation of the nomogram published by Chun et al.in our cohort showed a marked discordance between the observed and predicted probabilities of Gleason sum upgrading.In summary,a new nomogram to predict Gleason sum upgrading in clinically diagnosed prostate cancer was developed,and it demonstrated good statistical performance upon internal validation. | Jin-You Wang Yao Zhu Chao-Fu Wang Shi-Lin Zhang Bo Dai Ding-Wei Ye | 2014 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2014,33,5: | 13 |
