The impact of climate change and human activities on streamflow and sediment load in the Pearl River basin显示文摘This paper uses monthly streamflow, suspended sediment concentration, and meteorological data to examine the impact of human activity and climate change on streamflow and sediment load in the Pearl River basin from the 1950s to the 2000s. The influences of climate change and human activities on hydrological processes were quantitatively evaluated using the Mann–Kendall abrupt change test and power rating curves. The results showed that:(1) abrupt changes and turning points in streamflow occurred in 1963, 1983, and 1991 which were found to be consistent with global ENSO events and volcanic eruptions. However, abrupt changes in sediment load showed significant spatial differences across the Pearl River basin. For the Xijiang River, an abrupt change in sediment load occurred in 2002, and after 2007 the change becomes significant at the 95% confidence level. At Beijiang and Dongjiang, abrupt changes in sediment load occurred in 1998 and 1988, respectively.(2) The time series of sediment load data was divided into four periods according to abrupt changes. The contribution of climate change and human activities is different in the different rivers. For the Xijiang River, compared with the first period, climate change and human activities contributed 83% and 17%, respectively, to the increasing sediment load during the second period. In the third period, the variation of sediment load followed a decreasing trend. The contribution from climate change and human activities also changed to t236% and -136%, respectively. In the fourth period, climate change and human activities contributed -32% and t132%, respectively. Meanwhile, For the Beijiang River, climate change and human activities contributed 90% and 10% in the second period, the contribution of climate change increased to t115% and human activities decreased to -15% in the third period. In the fourth period, the value for climate change decreased to t36% and human activities increased to t64%. For the Dongjiang River, the contribution of human activities was from 74.5% to 90%, and the values for climate change were from 11% to 25%. Therefore, the effect of human activity showed both spatial and temporal differences, and it seems likely that the decreased sediment load will continue to be controlled mainly by human activities in the future. | Chuangshou Wu Changchen Ji Benwei Shi Yaping Wang Jianhua Gao Yang Yang Jinbin Mu | 2019 | International Journal of Sediment Research2019,34,4: | 12
Dynamic prediction of building subsidence deformation with data-based mechanistic self-memory model显示文摘This paper describes a building subsidence deformation prediction model with the self-memorization principle.According to the non-linear specificity and monotonic growth characteristics of the time series of building subsidence deformation,a data-based mechanistic self-memory model considering randomness and dynamic features of building subsidence deformation is established based on the dynamic data retrieved method and the self-memorization equation. This model first deduces the differential equation of the building subsidence deformation system using the dynamic retrieved method, which treats the monitored time series data as particular solutions of the nonlinear dynamic system. Then, the differential equation is evolved into a difference-integral equation by the self-memory function to establish the self-memory model of dynamic system for predicting nonlinear building subsidence deformation. As the memory coefficients of the proposed model are calculated with historical data, which contain useful information for the prediction and overcome the shortcomings of the average prediction, the model can predict extreme values of a system and provide higher fitting precision and prediction accuracy than deterministic or random statistical prediction methods. The model was applied to subsidence deformation prediction of a building in Xi'an.It was shown that the model is valid and feasible in predicting building subsidence deformation with good accuracy. | WANG Wei SU JingYu HOU BenWei TIAN Jie MA DongHui | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,26: | 5
Noise reduction method for nonlinear signal based on maximum variance unfolding and its application to fault diagnosis显示文摘A new noise reduction method for nonlinear signal based on maximum variance unfolding(MVU)is proposed. The noisy sig- nal is firstly embedded into a high-dimensional phase space based on phase space reconstruction theory, and then the manifold learning algorithm MVU is used to perform nonlinear dimensionality reduction on the data of phase space in order to separate low-dimensional manifold representing the attractor from noise subspace. Finally, the noise-reduced signal is obtained through reconstructing the low-dimensional manifold. The simulation results of Lorenz system show that the proposed MVU-based noise reduction method outperforms the KPCA-based method and has the advantages of simple parameter estimation and low parameter sensitivity. The proposed method is applied to fault detection of a vibration signal from rotor-stator of aero engine with slight rubbing fault. The denoised results show that the slight rubbing features overwhelmed by noise can be effectively extracted by the proposed noise reduction method. | ZHANG Yun &LI BenWei Department of Airborne Vehicle Engineering,Naval Aeronautical Engineering Institute,Yantai 264001,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,8: | 3
Assessing the vulnerability of changing coasts,Hainan Island,China显示文摘Knowledge of coastline changes and vulnerability is of great importance to local government departments that are responsible for the management and development of coastal zones. To study the nature of change and vulnerability along the coasts of the Hainan Island,we collected a large number of sediment samples through the last few years, and reconstructed the changes of the coastline by combining the data of sediment grain-size analysis and the nautical charts/TM RS imaginary.Contrary to being almost free from erosion(as expected from the findings that the coastlines are in a relatively stable state),four major cities in Hainan(i.e.,Haikou,Wenchang,Sanya and Changjiang) turned out to be suffered from a moderate coastal vulnerability primarily because of the large populations that impose considerable pressure on the coastlines. Thus, the assessment methodology utilized in this study, including both anthropogenic and natural factors, serves as a useful tool to obtain a comprehensive understanding of coastline vulnerability for local government,in terms of coastal management and adaptation. | WANG Yaping SHI Benwei ZHANG Liang JIA Jianjun XIA Xiaomin ZHOU Liang YU Rui YANG Yang GAO Jianhua | 2017 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2017,36,4: | 3
Analysis of the characteristics of offshore currents in the Changjiang(Yangtze River) estuarine waters based on buoy observations显示文摘A buoy of 10 m in diameter was used to record the current speed and direction in a vertical profile in the offshore area of the Changjiang(Yangtze River) Estuary(with an average water depth of 46.0 m) for one year. The results include:(1) the currents rotate clockwise and the current direction is consistent in a vertical profile without clear seasonal variations.(2) The horizontal current speeds are generally high, with a maximum of 128.5 cm/s occurring in summer and 105.5 cm/s appearing in winter commonly close to the surface. The average current speeds in the vertical profile fall in the same range(the differences are less than 8.0 cm/s),with the maximum of47.0 cm/s occurring in summer and 40.8 cm/s in winter. The average current speed during spring tides is twice that during neap tides(26.5 cm/s).(3) Significant differences of speeds are observed in the vertical profile. The maximum current speed occurs at either surface(spring and winter) or sub-surface(summer and autumn),with the minimum current speed appearing at the bottom. The maximum average current speed of all layers is 57.9cm/s,which occurs in the 18-m layer during summer.(4) The average speed of the residual currents ranges from7.5 cm/s to 11.3 cm/s,with the strongest occurring in spring and weakest in winter. The residual currents of all layers are eastward during spring and winter, whereas northeastward or northward during summer and autumn.(5) The currents in the offshore of Changjiang Estuary are impacted collectively by diluted Changjiang River discharge, the Taiwan Warm Current, monsoon and tides. | LI Peng SHI Benwei WANG Yaping QIN Weihua LI Yangang CHEN Jian | 2017 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2017,36,4: | 2

Evolving strategies for marine enzyme engineering:recent advances on the molecular modification of alginate lyase显示文摘Alginate,an acidic polysaccharide,is formed byβ-D-mannuronate(M)andα-L-guluronate(G).As a type of polysaccharide lyase, alginate lyase can efficiently degrade alginate into alginate oligosaccharides, having potential applications in the food, medicine, and agriculture fields. However, the application of alginate lyase has been limited due to its low catalytic efficiency and poor temperature stability. In recent years, various structural features of alginate lyase have been determined, resulting in modification strategies that can increase the applicability of alginate lyase, making it important to summarize and discuss the current evidence. In this review,we summarized the structural features and catalytic mechanisms of alginate lyase.Molecular modification strategies, such as rational design, directed evolution, conserved domain recombination, and non-catalytic domain truncation, are also described in detail.Lastly, the application of alginate lyase is discussed. This comprehensive summary can inform future applications of alginate lyases. | Shengsheng Cao Qian Li Yinxiao Xu Tiancheng Tang Limin Ning Benwei Zhu | 2022 | Marine Life Science & Technology2022,4,1: | 2

Comparison of the graphic and moment methods for analyzing grainsize distributions:A case study for the Chinese inner continental shelf seas显示文摘Sediment grain-size distributions provide key information on sediment sources, transport, and deposition. The Folk and Ward graphic method and the Friedman moment method are generally used for rapid analysis of the qualitative and quantitative properties of sediment samples;whether the two methods yield the same results for any given sediment sample is not yet known.Little research attention has been paid to comparison of the descriptive terms used in both methods, although some work has been done on comparison of the numerical values. In the current study, sediment samples from six areas of the Chinese inner continental seas were investigated. The mean and sorting values obtained using the two methods are well correlated(0.821≤R^(2)≤0.998),but the skewness and kurtosis vary among study areas(0.035≤R^(2)≤0.816),which is consistent with previous studies where R^(2) is the coefficient of determination. The two methods yield significant differences for skewness(84.78%-98.04%of samples)and kurtosis(40.59%-67.29%of samples). The main reasons for these differences are variations in the grainsize distribution curves of the sediment samples and differences in the weighting applied to specified cumulative percentile values by the two methods. These results demonstrate that the differences between the two methods should be taken into account when analyzing sedimentary environments and studying historical data. | Gaocong Li Rihong Du Jieping Tang Zhiqiang Li Qiong Xia Benwei Shi Liang Zhou Yang Yang Wenxiang Zhang | 2022 | International Journal of Sediment Research2022,37,6: | 1
Characterization of longshore currents in southern East China Sea during summer and autumn显示文摘Current characteristics and vertical variations during summer and autumn in the southern East China Sea were investigated by measuring current profile, tide, wind, and wave data for 90 d from July 28 to October 25, 2015. Our results are:(1) The current was mainly a(clockwise) rotating flow, displaying reciprocating flow characteristics, and vertically the current directions were the same throughout the vertical profile.(2) The horizontal current speed was strongest during August(summer) with an average speed of 51.8 cm/s. The average current speeds during spring tides were highest in August and weakest in September, with speeds of 59.9 and 42.8 cm/s,respectively.(3) Considerable differences exist in average current speeds in different layers and seasons. The highest average current speeds were found in the middle–upper layers in August and in the middle–lower layers in September and October.(4) The residual current speed was highest in August, when the speed was 12.5–47.1 cm/s,whereas the vertical average current speed was 34.3 cm/s. The depth-averaged residual current speeds in September and October were only 50% of that in August, and the residual current direction gradually rotated in a counter-clockwise direction from the lower to surface layers.(5) Typhoon waves had a significant influence on the currents, and even affected the middle and lower water layers at depths of >70.0 m. Our results showed that the currents are controlled by the dynamic interplay of the Taiwan Warm Current, incursion of the Kuroshio Current onto the continental shelf, and monsoonal changes. | Peng Li Benwei Shi Yangang Li Sijian Wang Xin Lv Yaping Wang Qing Tian | 2020 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2020,39,3: | 1

Natural radioactive environment of urban soils in Shihezi, China显示文摘Radionuclides, such as 238U, 232Th and 40K, can be found in urban soil. To evaluate the natural radioactivity in the environment, soil samples were collected form Shihezi city and radioisotope concentrations were determined by X-ray fluorescence. The dose rate of urban soil (mGy per year, mGy/a) was calculated. The results indicate that the U, Th and K concentrations of the urban soils were, respectively, 1.2-3.2 mg/kg, 6.4-12.3 mg/kg and 2.05%-2.24%, with the mean values of 2.47 mg/kg, 10.47 mg/kg and 2.16 %. Dose rates of urban soils were 10.04-19.55 mGy/a with the mean value of 16.31 mGy/a. This dose rate is the perfect and maximum value of natural radiation in soil and different with the air absorbed dose rate from terrestrial γ-rays. The mean value of air absorbed dose rate was about 57.42 nGy/h. The annual effective dose rate in air was about 0.07 mSv/a and the average value of Raeq in urban soil was 120.37 Bq/kg. The relative contribution of α particle to the dose rate is higher than that derived from β- and γ-rays in the urban soils. | GE Benwei LIU Anna | 2009 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2009,20,6: | 0
Solar-driven high-temperature steam generation at ambient pressure显示文摘This paper demonstrates a facile solar steam generator for the generation of high-temperature steam at ambient pressure. The steam generator consists of a coiled copper tube(CCT) that serves as both solar collector and vapor heater. Both the inner and outer surfaces of the CCT are coated with black superhydrophobic copper oxide layer to improve the solar absorption, and such superhydrophobic layer prevents the condensation and clogging of water vapor during the heating process. Solar vapor is generated at the inlet of CCT through interfacial evaporation and subsequently heated inside the CCT as the vapor travels from the inlet to the outlet. By employing this approach, steam temperature that exceeds 100℃ under 1-sun illumination is demonstrated. Furthermore, steam temperature could reach as high as 250℃ under 10-sun illumination at ambient pressure. Successful sterilization experiment was also performed in this work to demonstrate the potential application of the high temperature steam generated. Such demonstrated approach helps open up the potential usage of solar-driven interfacial evaporation in applications that involve high-temperature steam, including medical sterilization, chemical manufacturing and food processing. | Xinyu Wang Yanming Liu Rui Feng Yao Zhang Chao Chang Benwei Fu Tian Luan Peng Tao Wen Shang Jianbo Wu Chengyi Song Tao Deng | 2019 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2019,29,1: | 0
Distribution of benthic macrofaunal communities in intertidal flat under hydrodynamic influence:a case study of Jiangsu coast,East China显示文摘To identify the distribution pattern of macrofaunal assemblages of the Dafeng intertidal flats in response to hydrodynamic and sediment dynamic processes in the northern Jiangsu coast,East China, macrofauna sampling and hydrodynamic observations were carried out simultaneously across the mud flat, mixed mud-sand flat, and silt-sand flat of the intertidal zone in June 2018.Results show that there was a clear zonal distribution pattern of the macrofaunal communities,as is controlled by local hydrological and sedimentary environments.Principal component analysis(PCA)revealed three types of intertidal area in terms of hydrological and surficial sediment parameters.Similarly, three distinct groups of the macrofaunal communities,i.e.,mud flat, mix mud-sand,and silt-sand groups, were recognized at similarity level of 24%based on the CLUSTER analysis in similarity profile(SIMPROF)test.Correlation analysis upon best variables stepwise search(BVSTEP)indicated the importance of the hydrodynamics(e.g.,water temperature and salinity, tidal duration, flow speed, suspended sediment concentration, and wave height)in the differentiation of macrofaunal communities with different taxonomic classes over the intertidal zone. Therefore, macrofaunal assemblages, similar to hydrology and surficial sediment, have a unique zonation pattern.Small-sized deposit feeders adapt better to low energy environments, thus dominated the upper part of the intertidal flat, whilst the heavy and large-sized filter feeders and deposit feeders were dominant over the middle and lower parts. The hydrodynamic and sediment processes cause biota-niche separation, which affected the biological processes across the intertidal flat. | Longhui ZHANG Dezhi CHEN Shu GAO Yaping WANG Benwei SHI Yongfen DU | 2023 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2023,41,3: | 0
