| 1 | Correlation of endoscopic disease severity with pediatric ulcerative colitis activity index score in children and young adults with ulcerative colitis显示文摘AIM To investigate of pediatric ulcerative colitis activity index(PUCAI) in ulcerative colitis correlate with mucosal inflammation and endoscopic assessment of disease activity(Mayo endoscopic score).METHODS We reviewed charts from ulcerative colitis patients who had undergone both colonoscopy over 3 years. Clinical assessment of disease severity within 35 d(either before or after) the colonoscopy were included. Patients were excluded if they had significant therapeutic interventions(such as the start of corticosteroids or immunosuppressive agents) between the colonoscopy and the clinical assessment. Mayoendoscopic score of the rectum and sigmoid were done by two gastroenterologists. Inter-observer variability in Mayo score was assessed.RESULTS We identified 99 patients(53% female, 74% pancolitis) that met inclusion criteria. The indications for colonoscopy included ongoing disease activity(62%), consideration of medication change(10%), assessment of medication efficacy(14%), and cancer screening(14%). Based on PUCAI scores, 33% of patients were in remission, 39% had mild disease, 23% had moderate disease, and 4% had severe disease. There was 'moderate-substantial' agreement between the two reviewers in assessing rectal Mayo scores(kappa = 0.54, 95%CI: 0.41-0.68). CONCLUSION Endoscopic disease severity(Mayo score) assessed by reviewing photographs of pediatric colonoscopy has moderate inter-rater reliability, and agreement was less robust in assessing patients with mild disease activity. Endoscopic disease severity generally correlates with clinical disease severity as measured by PUCAI score. However, children with inflamed colons can have significant variation in their reported clinical symptoms. | 3 | Surfactant assisted solvothermal synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles and study of their antimicrobial and antioxidant properties显示文摘This study demonstrated a solvothermal method of growth of three different morphologies of zinc oxide nanoparticles(ZnO NPs): i) flower-like nanorod and nanoflakes, ii) assembled hierarchical structure,and iii) nano granule. Oleic acid(C_(18)H_(34)O_2), gluconic acid(C_6H_(12)O_7) and tween 80(C_(64)H_(124)O_(26)) were used as surfactant/capping/reducing agent for the formation of different morphologies of nanoparticles.The as-synthesized ZnO NPs were characterized by different physicochemical techniques such as UV–vis(UV–vis) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction(XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray(EDX) analysis and dynamic light scattering(DLS) studies. Further, the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of these nanostructures was evaluated. The antioxidant activity of these nanostructures was assessed via 2,2-diphenyl,1-1 picrylhydrazyl(DPPH), 2,2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)(ABTS) and H_2O_2 free radical scavenging activity. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of the obtained nanostructures was demonstrated against both gram negative(Escherichia coli) and gram positive(Staphylococcus aureus) bacterial genera.This study revealed antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of different structures of ZnO NPs suggesting their biomedical and industrial applications. | Mina Zare K. | 4 | Comparison of lipid profile in different grades of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease diagnosed on ultrasound显示文摘Objective:To detect and compare serum lipid abnormalities in patients diagnosed with different grades of non-alcoholic fatly liver on ultrasonography.Methods:A total of 70 cases which included 30 males and 40 females,diagnosed as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)on ultrasound were investigated with serum lipid profile.Then a comparison of lipid abnormalities between different grades of fatty liver diagnosed on ultrasound was done.P value was calculated by using analysis of variance lest(ANOVA)and P value<0.05 was considered as statistically significant.Results:Out of 70 cases which were diagnosed as NAFLD on ultrasonography,gradeⅠNAFLD cases were 47.15%,gradeⅡwere 42.85%and gradeⅢwere 10%.The mean age of the patients was49.14 years.Male to female ratio was 3:4.Serum triglycerides,total cholesterol,LDL and VLDL levels were raised in 67.14%,45.71%34.28%,25.71%of cases respectively.Low serum HDL levels were seen in 62.85%of patients.On statistical analysis we found increasing grades of NAFLD were significantly associated with increasing values of total cholesterol(P value-0.001),LDL(P value-0.000)and VLDL(P value-0.003)and decreasing HDL(P value-0.000).Conclusion:Most of the patients of NAFLD in India is asymptomatic,non-diabetic and non-hypertensive.Though liver biopsy is the gold standard melhod for diagnosis of NAFLD,Ultrasonography which is non-invasive,simple tool,can be used for the early detection of NAFLD in asymptomatic patients. | Dhumal Uttareshvar Mahaling Madole Mahesh Basavaraj Aher Jagdish Bika | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,11: | 3 |
| 5 | Deep learning approach for recognition and classification of yield affecting paddy crop stresses using field images显示文摘On-time recognition and early control of the stresses in the paddy crops at the booting growth stage is the key to prevent qualitative and quantitative loss of agricultural yield.The conventional paddy crop stress recognition and classification activities invariably rely on human experts identifying visual symptoms as a means of categorization.This process is admittedly subjective and error-prone,which in turn can lead to incorrect actions being taken in stress management decisions.The work presented in this paper aims to design a deep convolutional neural network(DCNN)framework for automatic recognition and classification of various biotic and abiotic paddy crop stresses using the field images.Thework has adopted the pre-trained VGG-16 CNN model for the automatic classification of stressed paddy crop images captured during the booting growth stage.The trained models achieve an average accuracy of 92.89%on the held-out dataset,demonstrating the technical feasibility of using the deep learning approach utilizing 30,000 field images of 5 different paddy crop varieties with 12 different stress categories(including healthy/normal).The proposed work finds applications in developing the decision support systems and mobile applications for automating the field crop and resource management practices. | Basavaraj S.Anami Naveen N.Malvade Surendra Palaiah | 2020 | Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture2020,,1: | 2 |
