| 1 | Effect of Soil Drought Stress on Leaf Water Status, Membrane Permeability and Enzymatic Antioxidant System of Maize显示文摘A simulation experiment on the responses of maize (Zea mays L.) from the third leaf stage to maturity for different soil water levels (well-watered, moderately stressed, and severely stressed) was conducted by controlling irrigation and using a mobile rain shelter in a neutral loam, meadow soil to determine the effects on leaf water status, membrane permeability and enzymatic antioxidant system for different growth stages. The results indicated that drought stress relied on drought intensity and duration, with more severe drought stress creating more serious effects on maize. Compared with well-watered conditions, during the silking and blister stages moderate stress did not significantly change the relative water content (RWC) and did change significantly the relative conductivity (RC) (P < 0.05) of the leaves; however, severe stress did significantly decrease (P < 0.01) the leaf RWC and increase (P < 0.01) membrane permeability (leaf relative conductivity). Furthermore, under severe drought stress antioxidant enzyme activities declined significantly (P < 0.01) in later stages, namely for superoxide dismutase (SOD) the tasseling and blister stages, for peroxidase (POD) the milk stage, and for catalase (CAT) during the tasseling, blister, and milk stages. | 2 | Current Trends of the Prevalence of Childhood Asthma in Three Chinese Cities: A Multicenter Epidemiological Survey显示文摘Objective To analyze the prevalence of asthma and asthma related symptoms among children aged 0-14 years in three Chinese cities and to obtain a crude estimation of the trend of childhood asthma prevalence in China. Methods A cross-sectional, population-based survey of prevalence of asthma was conducted in children aged from 0 to 14 years in 3 major cities of China (Beijing, Chongqing, and Guangzhou) with different geographic locations. All the subjects were randomly selected by a multi-stage sampling method. Three to five schools and kindergartens in 2 urban districts in each city were randomly selected for the survey, and a validated questionnaire that included the core questions of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood, Phase Ⅲ questionnaire and several additional questions were used. All questionnaires were completed by parents or guardians of the selected children. Children whose parents responded affirmatively to the question' Has your child ever been diagnosed as asthma by a doctor' were recognized as victims of asthma. Results The prevalence of asthma in Beijing, Chongqing, and Guangzhou was 3.15%, 7.45%, and 2.09%, respectively. These values were significantly higher than those obtained 10 years ago in the national epidemiological survey in 2000 which used the same method of investigation and the same diagnotic criteria (χ2 =3.938, P=0.047; χ2 =73.506, P≤0.001; χ2 =11.956, P=0.001, in each city). Of the asthmatic children 57.21%, 69.91%, and 60.00% had their first attack before the age of 3 in Beijing, Chongqing, and Guangzhou, respectively. Wheezing was the primary clinical manifestation for all asthmatic children , followed by persistent cough and repeated respiratory infections. Both the prevalence of asthma and asthma-related symptoms were statistically higher in males than in females. | 3 | Effects of Water Stress on the Protective Enzyme Activities and Lipid Peroxidation in Roots and Leaves of Summer Maize显示文摘A systematic study was conducted to determine the effects of water stress on the activities of protective enzymes and lipid peroxidation in maize. The results showed that, under water stress, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD) in leaves and roots increased sharply at prophase and metaphase growth stages, such as, male tetrad stage, but then declined towards the physiological maturity. The protective enzyme activities in roots were lower than those in leaves. The content of malondialdehyde (MDA) increased according to the severity of water stress. The content of MDA in roots was lower than that in leaves. The activities of protective enzymes and lipid peroxidation in roots were positively related to that in leaves with most of the correlation coefficients being significant. The content of soluble proteins in roots and leaves decreased with increasing drought stress. The ear characteristics deteriorated and the economic yields of maize decreased significantly under water stress. | 4 | Estimating Aboveground Fresh Biomass of Different Cotton Canopy Types with Homogeneity Models Based on Hyper Spectrum Parameters显示文摘AGB(aboveground fresh biomass)is one of the most important parameters of the crop condition monitored with remote sensing.Hyper spectrum remote sensing with the fine spectrum information becomes the efficient method estimating the vegetation AGB.The research was conducted in Xinjiang,the largest cotton planting region of China.The paper analyzed the correlation between the cotton AGB and reflective spectrum and the first derivative spectrum,and the variation coefficient of the waveband reflectance.According to the analysis above,all of 23 parameters,including the hyper spectrum reflectance,the first derivative spectrum parameters and normalization vegetation indexes,were established. | 5 | Clinicopathologic significance of BAG1 and TIMP3 expression in colon carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To explore the expression of BAG1 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 3 (TIMP3) in colon carcinoma and their correlation and clinicopathologic significance. METHODS: SABC immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of BAG1 and TIMP3 in 80 colon carcinoma tissues and 20 normal colonic mucosa. RESULTS: Positive rate of BAG1 in colon carcinoma tissue (80%) was notably higher compared to normal colonic mucosa (10%) (P < 0.05). However, no significant difference was observed in positive rate of TIMP3 in colon carcinoma tissue (43.75%) as compared with normal colonic mucosa (60%) (P > 0.05). Expression of BAG1 and TIMP3 was strongly associated with colon carcinoma differentiation, Duke's staging, lymph node metastasis and survival rate (P < 0.05), but not associated with gender and age. Moreover, BAG1 expression was not correlated with TIMP3. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that over-expression of BAG1 or attenuated expression of TIMP3 may play an important role in genesis and development of colon carcinoma. The protein expression levels of BAG1 and TIMP3 are related to the malignant degree, infiltration and metastasis of colon carcinoma. | 9 | Treating ischaemic stroke with intravenous tPA beyond 4.5 hours under the guidance of a MRI DWI/T2WI mismatch was safe and effective显示文摘Purpose Clinical trials have provided evidence that treating patients with acute ischaemic stroke(AIS)beyond 4.5 hours was feasible.Among them using MRI diffusion-weighted imaging/fluid attenuation inversion response(DWI/FLAIR)mismatch to guide intravenous tissue plasminogen activator(tPA)was successful.Our study explored the outcome and safety of using DWI/T2-weighted imaging(T2WI)mismatch to guide intravenous tPA therapy for patients with AIS between 4.5 hours and 12 hours of onset.Method This was a retrospective study.Records of 1462 AIS patients with the time of onset of<12 hours were reviewed.Those had MRI rapid sequence study and had hyperintense signal on DWI but normal T2WI and received intravenous tPA up to 12 hours of onset were included in the analysis.Their demographics,risk factors,post-tPA complications,National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS)scores and outcome were recorded and analyse.χ2 was used to compare the intergroup variables.SAS was used to perform statistical calculation.A p<0.05 was considered statistically significant.results Of 1462 identified,601(41%)patients were entered into the final analysis.Among them,327(54%)had intravenous tPA within 4.5 hours of onset and 274(46%)were treated between 4.5-12 hours.After intravenous tPA,426 cases(71%)had>4 pints of improvement on NIHSS score within 24 hours.Postintravenous tPA,32(5.32%)cases had haemorrhagic transformation.26(4.33%)were asymptomatic ICH and 4(0.67%)died.At 90 days,523(87%)achieved a modified Rankin scale of 0-2.Conclusion Using MRI DWI/T2WI mismatch to identify patients with AIS for intravenous tPA between 4.5 hours and 12 hours was safe and effective.The outcome was similar to those used DWI/PWI or DWI/FLAIR mismatch as the screening tool.However,obtaining DWI/T2WI was faster and avoided the need of contrast material. | Qing-ke Bai Zhen-guo Zhao Lian-jun Lu Jian Shen Jian-ying Zhang Hai-jing Sui Xiu-hai Xie Juan Chen Juan Yang Cui-rong Chen | 2019 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2019,4,1: | 6 |

| 15 | Electron-phonon coupling-assisted universal red luminescence of o-phenylenediamine-based carbon dots显示文摘Due to the complex core-shell structure and variety of surface functional groups,the photoluminescence(PL)mechanism of carbon dots(CDs)remain unclear.o-Phenylenediamine(oPD),as one of the most common precursors for preparing red emissive CDs,has been extensively studied.Interestingly,most of the red emission CDs based on oPD have similar PL emission characteristics.Herein,we prepared six different oPD-based CDs and found that they had almost the same PL emission and absorption spectra after purifiication.Structural and spectral characterization indicated that they had similar carbon core structures but diffferent surface polymer shells.Furthermore,single-molecule PL spectroscopy confirmed that the multi-modal emission of those CDs originated from the transitions of different vibrational energy levels of the same PL center in the carbon core.In addition,the phenomenon of'spectral splitting'of single-particle CDs was observed at low temperature,which confirmed these oPD-based CDs were unique materials with properties of both organic molecules and quantum dots.Finally,theoretical calculations revealed their potential polymerization mode and carbon core structure.Moreover,we proposed the PL mechanism of red-emitting CDs based on oPD precursors;that is,the carbon core regulates the PL emission,and the polymer shell regulates the PL intensity.Our work resolves the controversy on the PL mechanism of oPD-based red CDs.These findings provide a general guide for the mechanism exploration and structural analysis of other types of CDs. | Boyang Wang Zhihong Wei Laizhi Sui Jingkun Yu Baowei Zhang Xiaoyong Wang Shengnan Feng Haoqiang Song Xue Yong Yuxi Tian Bai Yang Siyu Lu | 2022 | Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,7: | 2 |
