1Isolation and identification of Starmerella davenportii strain Do18 and its application in black tea beverage fermentation显示文摘The objective of this study was to isolate and identify a yeast strain from the kombucha beverage and evaluate its potential as a novel starter in beverage fermentation in vitro.Starmerella davenportii Do18 was characterized for its cholesterol reduction;growth at different conditions such as temperatures(25,30,37 and 42◦C),low pH(1.2,1.5,2.03.0,and 7.0),bile salts(0%,0.25%,0.5%,1%and 2%)high-sucrose stress(2%,10%,20%,40%and 60%);and in-vitro survival in gastric and intestinal environments.Results showed that the yeast strain has a cholesterol-lowering capacity of 45%±2%,grew at temperature of 37◦C and is resistant to pH 1.5,2%bile and 40%sucrose solution,could survive in simulated gastric and intestinal environments.The physicochemical characteristics of the fermented beverages were also evaluated,which indicated that the yeast has pH reduction capacity and can produce organic acids and volatile compound such as 2-phenylethanol.Furthermore,the fermented beverage also has high total phenolics and flavonoids content and showed great antioxidant and antimicrobial activities.Therefore,the findings of this research provide strong evidence that S.davenportii Do18 has good fermentation properties,can be a potential starter in food and beverage fermentation.Chuanhai Tu Wenxiu Hu Sijie Tang Ling Meng Zhihai Huang Xiao Xu Xiudong Xia Fidelis Azi Mingsheng Dong 2020Food Science and Human Wellness2020,9,4:8
2Prognostic significance of vascular endothelial growth factor polymorphisms in colorectal cancer patients显示文摘AIM To investigate the associations of the genetic polymor-phisms of vascular endothelial growth factor A(VEGF-A)-1498C>T and-634G>C, with the survival of patients with colorectal cancer(CRC). METHODS A prospective cohort consisting of 131 Brazilians patients consecutively operated on with a curative intention as a result of sporadic colorectal carcinoma was studied. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood and its amplification and allelic discrimination for each genetic polymorphism was performed using the technique of polymerase chain reaction(PCR) in real-time. The real-time PCR technique was used to identify the VEGF-A-1498C>T(rs833031) and-634G>C(rs2010963) polymorphisms. Genotyping was validated for VEGF-A-1498C>T polymorphism in 129 patients and for VEGF-A-634G>C polymorphism in 118 patients. The analysis of association between categorical variables was performed using logistic regression, survival by Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate analysis by the Cox regression method. RESULTS In the univariate analysis there was a significant association(OR = 0.32; P = 0.048) between genotype CC of the VEGF-A-1498C>T polymorphism and the presence of CRC liver metastasis. There was no association between VEGF-A-1498C>T polymorphism and VEGF-A-634G>C polymorphism with further clinical or anatomopathologic variables. The genotype CC of the VEGF-A-1498C>T polymorphism was significantly correlated with the 5-year survival(P = 0.032), but not significant difference(P = 0.27) was obtained with the VEGF-A-634G>C polymorphism with the 5-year survival in the univariate analysis. The genotype CT(HR = 2.79) and CC(HR = 4.67) of the polymorphism VEGF-A-1498C>T and the genotype CC(HR = 3.76) of the polymorphism VEGF-A-634C>G acted as an independent prognostic factor for the risk of death in CRC patients. 3Pharmacognostic Identification of Yi Medicine Herba Boenninghauseniae Albiflorae显示文摘[Objectives] To identify original plant and traits of Yi medicine Herba Boenninghauseniae Albiflorae,and provide experimental data for its identification and application. [Methods] The original plant,traits,and microscopic identification were used. [Results] Essential identification characteristics of Yi medicine Herba Boenninghauseniae Albiflorae: small leaf was 1-2. 5 cm long,while the gynophore was 4-8mm long when bearing fruit; traits mainly included characteristic odor,strong and bitter taste,and spicy flavor; microscopic exclusive identifying characteristics: rich aleurone grain in the root; leaf had lysigenous secretory cavity,and non-glandular hairs and oil droplets were common. [Conclusions] Yi medicine Herba Boenninghauseniae Albiflorae( Ebazema) has distinctive identifying characteristics in original plant,traits,and microscopic tissues. 4Roles of furfural during the thermal treatment of bio-oil at low temperatures显示文摘The reactive O-containing species in bio-oil could induce the polymerization of bio-oil during its thermal treatment, which affects the relevant utilization of bio-oil significantly. Furans, as the highly reactive Ocontaining species in bio-oil, play important roles during the thermal treatment of bio-oil. In this study,furfural was chosen as the representative of the furans in bio-oil to investigate its roles during the thermal treatment of bio-oil. The raw bio-oil with and without the addition of extra furfural(10 wt% of bio-oil) and pure furfural were pyrolyzed in a fixed-bed reactor at 200–500 ℃. The results show that the interactions among furfural and bio-oil components can take place prior to the evaporation of furfural(<140 ℃) to form the intermediates, then these intermediates could be further polymerized to form large molecular compounds, and coke can be formed via the interactions at temperatures ≥ 300 ℃. At temperatures ≤ 300 ℃, furfural mainly interacts with anhydrosugars. As the temperature further increases, the aromatics are involved in the interactions to form coke. The increased percentage of the coke formed via the interactions is in a linear relation with the conversion of furfural during the pyrolysis at 300–500 ℃(no coke formed at 200 ℃).
