| 1 | Early diagnostic evaluation of miR-122 and miR-224 as biomarkers for hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the common lethal types of tumor all over the world.The lethality of HCC accounts for many reasons.One of them,the lack of reliable diagnostic markers at the early stage,in this context,serum miRNAs became promising diagnostic biomarkers.Herein,we aimed to identify the predictive value of two miRNAs(miR-122 and miR-224)in plasma of patients with HCC preceded by chronic HCV infection.Taqman miRNA assays specific for hsa-miR-122 and hsa-miR-224 were used to assess the expression levels of the chosen miRNAs in plasma samples collected from three groups;40 patients with HCC related to HCV,40 with CHC patients and 20 healthy volunteers.This study revealed that the mean plasma values of miRNA-122 were significantly lower among HCC group when compared to CHC and control groups(P<0.001).Whereas,miR-224 mean plasma values were significantly higher among HCC group when compared to both CHC group and control group.Moreover,it was found that miR-122 can predict development of HCC at cut-off value<0.67(RQ)and(AUC Z 0.98,P<0.001).As regards miR-224,it can predict development of HCC at cut-off value>1.2(RQ)and(AUC Z 0.93,P<0.001),while the accuracy of AFP to diagnose HCC was(AUC:0.619;P Z 0.06).In conclusion,the expression plasma of miR-122 and miR-224 could be used as noninvasive biomarkers for the early prediction of developing HCC at the early stage. | Khalda S.Amr Hanan Abd Elmawgoud Atia Rehab Abd Elazeem Elbnhawy Wafaa M.Ezzat | 2017 | Genes & Diseases2017，4，4： | 17 |
| 2 | Clostridium perfringens bacteremia caused by choledocholithiasis in the absence of gallbladder stones显示文摘A 67-years-old male presented with periumbilical abdominal pain, fever and jaundice. His anaerobic blood culture was positive for clostridium perfringens. Computed tomogram scan of the abdomen and abdominal ultrasound showed normal gallbladder and common bile duct (CBD). Subsequently magnetic resonance cholangiopancreaticogram showed choledocholithiasis. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticogram-with sphincterotomy and CBD stone extraction was performed. | 3 | Closed-loop hydrometallurgical treatment of end-of-life lithium ion batteries: Towards zero-waste process and metal recycling in advanced batteries显示文摘This work presents an enhanced hydrometallurgical process for recycling lithium ion batteries. First, endof-life batteries were processed in a physical pre-treatment plant to obtain a representative electrode material. The resulting leachate was purified forth by iron-precipitation, liquid–liquid extractions, and an innovative Li–Na separation, in order to obtain valuable products. These products include high-grade graphite, cobalt oxide(Co3O4, purity 83%), cobalt oxalate(CoC2O4, purity 96%), nickel oxide(Ni O, purity89%), and lithium carbonate(Li2CO3, purity 99.8%). The recovery rate was quantitative for graphite, between 80% and 85% for cobalt depending on the nature of the recovery method, 90% for nickel, and 72%for lithium. Secondary streams were also valorized to obtain sodium sulfate(Na2SO4, purity 96%), and MnCoFe2O4 magnetic nano-sorbents according to the zero-waste concept. | 4 | Quality monitoring in colonoscopy: Time to act显示文摘Colonoscopy is the gold standard test for colorectal cancer screening. The primary advantage of colonoscopy as opposed to other screening modalities is the ability to provide therapy by removal of precancerous lesions at the time of detection. However, colonoscopy may miss clinically important neoplastic polyps. The value of colonoscopy in reducing incidence of colorectal cancer is dependent on many factors including, the patient, provider, and facility level. A high quality examination includes adequate bowel preparation, optimal colonoscopy technique, meticulous inspection during withdrawal, identification of subtle flat lesions, and complete polypectomy. Considerable variation among institutions and endoscopists has been reported in the literature. In attempt to diminish this disparity, various approaches have been advocated to improve the quality of colonoscopy. The overall impact of these interventions is not yet well defined. | 7 | Pulmonary Immune Responses to Aspergillus Fumigatus in Rats显示文摘Objective To evaluate immunologic mechanisms underlying Aspergillus fumigatus pulmonary infections in immunocompetent Dark Agouti(DA) and Albino Oxford(AO) rats recognized as being susceptible to some inflammatory diseases in different manners. Methods Lung fungal burden(quantitative colony forming units, CFU, assay), leukocyte infiltration(histology, cell composition) and their function(phagocytosis, oxidative activity, CD11 b adhesion molecule expression) and cytokine interferon-γ(IFN-γ) and interleukin-17 and-4(IL-17 and IL-4) lung content were evaluated following infection(intratracheally, 1x107 conidia). Results Slower reduction of fungal burden was observed in AO rats in comparison with that in DA rats, which was coincided with less intense histologically evident lung cell infiltration and leukocyte recovery as well as lower level of most of the their activities including intracellular myeloperoxidase activity, the capacity of nitroblue tetrazolium salt reduction and CD11 b adhesion molecule expression(except for phagocytosis of conidia) in these rats. Differential patterns of changes in proinflammatory cytokine levels(unchanged levels of IFN-γ and transient increase of IL-17 in AO rats vs continuous increase of both cytokines in DA rats) and unchanged levels of IL-4 were observed.
